There was nothing exceptionally special about today . . . or so Paul Lahote thought. Then again, the life of a wolf was anything but ordinary. It had not been too long since he had first phased, and his emotions were a mess about it. He seldom thought back to those days when he had first transformed, because it was one of the first times in his life that he was genuinely afraid. No. Never again. Paul not had a handle on things -- to a certain extent. His temper was no secret to the pack, and he often phased, probably more frequently than any of the others because of how easy it was to enrage him. Any little thing would push him over the edge and while his pack mates were annoyed with it, Paul didn't care enough to try and change who he was, even if it was trying to change himself for the better.
Today, all wolf things were pushed aside, and they were all on the beach to enjoy the sun and the waves. He made his way to the water, holding a surf board under his arm, and clad solely in swimming trunks. As he slowly stepped into the water, the coolness of it was a huge contrast to the high temperature of his body, so it was a rather refreshing feeling. "Yo idiot, try not to drown yourself!" He yelled at one of the guys as he saw him fall off his surf board. Paul chuckled, shaking his head and cursing the moron, as he began to run into the water, eager to allow the surfing adventures to begin.

Hello . . . . Hi . . . . sup?! . . . . Hiya ladies?
Rachael Black groaned and leaned forward of her head hit the steering wheel of her car. She had been working out opening lines in her head but had yet to even decide on how to start. She did not want everyone to think she was still the same old shy girl who left town a few years ago. They would ALL want to talk about her sister, who went to Hawaii and got married--how exciting, how like her, what's it like?! How did one sound cool when your sister is living in Hawaii?! Rachael leaned back and beat her first once on the wheel. Always Rebecca! The higher standard.
She had been in town three days, and was here to get out of the house and prove to herself that she had changed! She wasn't sure how much longer she would . . . could stay. She was here to help Jacob but so far she could not reach out to him. He was a troubled kid, and she just couldn't reach that little boy who was once her brother. Inviting him to the city had not worked either.
With a sigh, Rachael got out of the little blue car and went to the trunk to get out the food she had promised some of the girls she would bring. Mostly snack foods. Walking to the beach Rachael gave a small wave to a girl she knew, and walked over that way. Here it was, now or never. . . "Hi-eeyyllloooo." Great. Just great. Now she sounded moronic! In college she was intelligent, and witty, and had friends!--Here she was girl who couldn't talk! "I brought food!" She held up the basket with a smile, and hoped everyone was distracted from her lack of greeting skills! [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Paul noticed from the corner of his eye a little buggy drive up and park near the beach. He didn't recognize the car so didn't pay it much attention. Instead, he focused on what he came here to do: surf. With phasing came a heightened sense of . . . well, pretty much everything. Including a heightened desire for risk taking. With their accelerated healing, it made it easier -- and fun -- to do ridiculously risky things that they may never have otherwise attempted. It gave that adrenaline rush that made things all the more thrilling. While Paul never shyed away from a good challenge, it was different this time. So with that thought in mind, he raced further and further into the water, trying to find a place with some strong waves. He could hear Jared who wasn't too far and even Sam who had decided to join them. It was only for patrolling reasons that Sam was apart from Emily, so it felt good to just casually hang out with his pack brothers.
That was something Paul would never understand. Imprinting, Sam had called it. As if that clarified anything. But he supposed with them being wolves and vamps wandering around, anything was possible. Still. He didn't plan to turn into a schmuck when and if it ever happened to him. No way. He was Paul Lahote. Committed, being all sappy and sentimental . . . well, it was a bad look for him. He would feel bad for Sam, if the guy didn't seem so happy with Emily. As they of course had to know the details, whether Sam wanted to share them or not. Pushing away these thoughts from his mind, Paul dove into the waves with his board, taking in the cooling effect of the water, and the thrill and enjoyment of surfing.

Rachael stayed near the blankets that were put out for the food, but she found her eyes drifting over the beach to see who all was there. Most the kids and adults here she knew--in a town this small you tended to know everyone and everything about that everyone. It was one thing she almost found comforting about Jake being here. Why was no one trying harder to help him?
It was then she noticed some of the boys Jake spent time with now. Older looking then she had thought and none of them had long hair any more. Turning to one of the girls near her she asked about the group. Why they did most days, and why the mass mix of ages--Didn't most boys hang out with their own age? No one seemed worried, so Rachael ended up watching them again. To her surprise Paul was there.
Paul. Paul Lahote. Still strong and handsome looking but now he almost seemed taller and more . . . well a lot more in a lot of places. Some boys knew how to grow up. Looking back to her blanket she begin helping unpack everything, before deciding she would seek out Sam and try to talk to him about Jake. Should she? Would Jake hate her for that?

The only thing that could force Paul away from the joys of surfing was a growling stomach and . . . well, Paul's hunger was never satisfied. He knew it was all part of the 'wolf' thing and that was when he was grateful for Emily since she usually cooked some rather large meals for them. He noticed that there was an area of food being set up by the girls and decided that it was time to take a snack breath. He made his way back to shore, putting his surfboard away from the incoming waves and grabbed a towel. He turned when someone was calling him and while it wasn't enough to stand between him and food, it was enough to capture his attention in another way. And it was certainly a nice sight to keep his eyes on. He was walking backwards, telling Sarah -- at least thats what he thought her name was -- that he was going to grab a bite to eat and then he would meet up with her and 'show her how to surf'.
With his attention forward, he was walking backwards, nearing the vicnity of the food. When suddenly, he bumped into someone. It didn't knock him off his feet, thanks to his size, and he sharply turned his head. "Hey, watch where you're--" His voice started off in a short tone, but then trailed off when he saw her. Her. Paul found himself just staring at her . . . unsure how to explain what was happening. There was something about her. Something that he had never felt before. It was almost as if there was a strong, unseen force . . . pulling him toward her. Everything else ceased to exist because he just couldn't take his eyes off of her. Nor describe what emotions were suddenly filling his entire being, and what was making his heart beat so rapidly in his chest. He didn't know how long he had just been staring at her, before he realized that the collision had caused her to land on the ground. Before he had blamed her, now he felt the guilt over having potentially hurt her.
"I'm so sorry," he said, dropping to his knees next to her. "Are you alright? I didn't hurt you did I?" He asked, concern filling his tone. Since when did he become so concerned like this? Then again . . . since when he had ever fallen so head over heels for someone. Never. Was that even the right term, 'head over heels'? It felt like so much more than that. Whatever it was, it hit him hard and he didn't know how to make it go away. In fact, he didn't know if he even wanted it to go away. "Here, let me help you up," he added, offering his hand to her. Being closer to her made him further realize just how beautiful she was. Why hadn't he noticed her before? Had she been here long? He had never seen someone who was so capable of taking his breath away . . . until now.

'So, Rebecca!' There is was! Someone leading into a question about her sister. Rachael stared at the other girls for a moment, trying to think of a way to deflect the question or answer it but not let the topic linger when something hard and hard hit her from the side, causing her to stumble backwards and (of course!) land in the dip for the chips! "Hey, watch where you're--" Really?! He was going to blame her? Rachael waited for the rest of it, but there was only silence. Trying to contain her embarrassment, she looked up at HIM (of all people!) and waited for the laugh that would send her running to her car--if not back to college to hide from this moment.
"I'm so sorry," He dropped to his knees, and she wasn't sure if it was the shock of his change of attitude or the fact that she could feel dip in her pants that kept her from crying or laughing in that paniced sort of way. "Are you alright? I didn't hurt you did I?" "Fine," She whispered, and began trying to stand up with some sort of dignity. "Here, let me help you up," "No, really it's fine. I can--oh, well thank you." She let him help her to her feet.
Looking at the girls she had just been talking to, Rachael tried to shrug but knew that if she stood here she would cry, and she refused to look weak right now! She had her pride! "I should go get cleaned up." She tried to joke it off, then looked at Paul. "Paul, good to see you again." Then she turned to walk toward her car, only to change her mind and walk to the water. Might as well let the water clean her off before she ruined her car seat.

He watched her intently as she accepted his help and rose to her feet. He had never felt so . . . what was the word, flustered? Speechless? He didn't know what to say, and Paul always knew what to say! He could only stare at her like an idiot. Why was it? What was happening? He felt this strange sort of panic suddenly consume him when she spoke her parting words and then walked away from him. It was odd. It made him feel, desperate to be back in her company. How could he instantly be so attached to someone? Someone that he knew from before even! So many questions raced through Paul's mind and still, he brushed them aside and knew he had to act before she was completely out of his reach. He turned to follow her, surprisingly forgetting about food. It seemed that she was all that was important to him right now.
It didn't take long to take those few extra steps to catch up to her as he walked a little forward, once again walking backwards so that he could look at her as he spoke . . . feeling an urgent need to see her. "Let me help, its the least I can do," he said. Among so many other things, why did he feel so in need to be nice, to be polite, to . . . be near her. "It's good to see you too," he said, knowing that she was Jacob's sister and that Rebecca was married in Hawaii, which means she must be . . . "Rachael," he said, finishing his sentence. "Did you just get back in town?" He knew that neither of Jacob's sisters were here. He wasn't sure where or what Rachael did, but surely he would have seen her around and . . . felt like this when he did.

Rachael only made it a few steps before Paul cut off her path again, but this time he was walking backwards as if to keep up with her. She paused mid-step before walking again. Why was he being nice? Was it because Jake was his friend now, and he knew she was Jake's sister. When he paused at her name, Rachael's eyes narrowed slightly, but when Paul managed to get the right one out, she felt surprised and knew her face showed it.
"Yeah, I got in a few days ago." She wasn't even sure how long she was staying. "Came to check on Jake and my Dad." Which reminds her, she had a job to do. "I hear you and Jake are buddies now." Yeah, that was odd to even say. They were not the same age, and never hung out before. Paul had been arrogant and . . . . and well the bad boy of La Push in a way and Jake had been sweet and kind and positive--nice! NOT Paul. "Leading him astray?" Once she got to the water she moved her hands to her jeans to undo them and take them off, but even though she had her swimsuit on under it, it felt weird undressing before Paul.

Paul stopped walking when she did, which was when she got to the water. She then proceeded to undo her jeans and slip them off. And Paul being Paul . . . couldn't help but watch her actions, a little too intently. Yet he was torn between staring, and looking around to make sure no other guy was watching her. He felt this strange . . . protectiveness over her. As if he wanted to shield any other guy's gaze from catching a glimpse. As if, somehow she suddenly became his. Paul's eyes scanned the beach, turning his body a bit, trying to block the angle where there were the most people. Damn beach was too populated. Even while he was doing that, he was trying to watch her since . . . well, how could he look away?! "Yeah, Jake's cool," he said casually, not really paying attention to what he was saying.
He was more preoccupied with what he was trying to do, and what she was doing. He turned his head from eying the general public to look at her again. "Nah, the kid's not an idiot. Besides, Sam is responsible enough to make sure your brother stays on track," he said, only half kidding. With Jake now phasing, the dynamic between all of them was different than it had ever been before: they were all brothers. But now, she didn't need to hear the details of that. Yet for whatever reason, part of him wanting to tell her everything. "You . . . need a towel or anything?" To wrap the lower half of her body. The part of him that suddenly became wildly attracted to her didn't want her to. Yet the other part of them that became suddenly firecly procective and easily jealous did. Oh what a contradicting feeling this way.

As Rachael begin slipping her pants off she noticed Paul shifting around, but assumed it was because he didn't want to be here. Maybe he was only bring nice to her because she wasn't Jake's sister. He had been sort of a jerk until he took one look at her. "Cool?" She repeated under her breath so he would not hear her, then spoke in a louder voice to him. "You mean since he changed everything about himself and started following you guys around?" She didn't say it allowed but she was thinking about how she failed to approve of this new change.
Then he offered her a towel and she knew he was only being nice for Jake now, because no way Paul did anything nice for anyone for no reason. "I can get one when I go back tot he beach, the water would only get it wet." Washing her pants she pulled them up and shook them to try to get the water off. Or enough they were not dripping.

She didn't seem to approve, but then again, no one ever did. No one understood until they phased for that first time. Or at least found out about the pack. Which, obviously Paul wasn't going to mention right now. He was too busy trying to figure out what it was about her that made him unable to tear his gaze away. "Its his call," Paul said casually. He really didn't want to talk about Jake, but also didn't want to make it seem like he controlled his actions. He was trying to . . . what was the phrase . . . make a good impression on Rachael. Why did he even care? He couldn't answer that. All he knew was that he did care.
And he found himself for once, thinking about his words . . . sorta. But he also didn't want to stay in this environment where everyone and anyone could interrupt. He wanted to spend time with her, alone. Right now it felt like no one else existed . . . that it really was only her in the entire universe -- in his entire universe. "You wanna go for a walk or something?" He asked as casually as he could. He was so eager to talk to her without distractions around them. She was where his full attention was, and he wanted it to be the same for her.

It's his call? He was a kid! Paul should be the role model! Not that he was a good one, but he could be better. Since she'd been home Jake had been out most of the time doing things, and at night he never came in. His bed was still made! Jake often just told her to take it, which worried her even more. When did he sleep? WHERE? He was just a kid and---
Rachael looked up at Paul so quickly she almost stumbled backwards. He wanted her to leave? . . . No, he was being nice, which meant . . . . he wanted to walk with her? . . . . . Somewhere alone?
She ended up staring at him for a few long seconds in surprise before asking the stupidest question ever in her life, but she also had to be sure. "You mean, to-together?" PAUL was asking HER to go on a WALK with him? Her high school self was about to freak out, but her adult self was trying to figure out why he was asking.

Paul smiled at her when she felt the need to confirm that he was referring to them . . . walking together. For a second, he felt this odd, crippling fear pierce his heart that she was going to say no. That she was going to walk away from him and leave him here, craving her company. But the more confident side of him knew he wasn't going to let that happen. "Yeah. Together. Just you and me." Just the two of them. None of the guys, none of the girls. He then extended his hand for her to take. It wasn't only to help her step out of the water back onto the dry sand . . . but also because he felt the need for some sort of physical contact with her. Something innocent. A starting point. He wasn't sure when he had become this kind of guy: the one who holds a girl's hand and take walks on the beach with.
Now that didn't mean he did not want to become this guy. For whatever reason, he wanted to be that kind of guy . . . for Rachael. He didn't even feel like a pansy or schmuck or -- ohhh wait a second. No. No no . . . no? Yes! Thats it! Was it?! Maybe? Last he thought of that word, he'd been describing Sam and how he was with Emily. And NOW . . . he was thinking about himself . . . though not describing himself that way and . . . oh. Well . . . that explained . . . that wasn't it. Paul pushed those thoughts away right now, not wanting to think about anything but her. Yet, if it was what he thought it was . . . then it was going to be impossible to stop thinking about her.

He confirmed her thoughts and held out his hand for her to take. TAKE HIS HAND?! Rachael looked at his hand for a moment and then back to his face. PAUL wanted to hold her hand?! Reaching for it, she tucked her smaller hand into his larger one and felt herself softly inhale at the surprising contact. "You're really hot!" She told him, looking down at their hands with surprise!
WOW he was hot! Not looks--ok, yes looks too--but his felt warm, more then warm he almost felt hot. Was he sick?! Did he need a doctor? Had she known him better she might have stepped forward and try to feel his forehead to see if he was running a fervor. Instead she dropped her pants and reached for the same hand she was already holding and touched it with her other fingers.

Paul was rather glad when she took him up on his offer and place her small hand in his. He instantly felt the warmth of her skin, and felt . . . even more than what he did before. He still couldn't quite find the right words to describe it. All he knew was that he was enjoying this time with her, and wanted to make it last as long as possible. She then exclaimed that he was really hot and he smirked a bit. "Thanks. I know," he agreed, giving a bit of a wink. He knew that as a wolf, his body temperature was far warmer than usual . . . but it was easier to play it off with a joke -- or well, somewhat of a joke -- rather than blurting out that he was a wolf and that was why he was so warm. He wasn't even thinking about having that conversation with her.
Right now, he wanted to build their relationship because he knew . . . he somehow just knew, that she was the one he was going to spend the rest of his life with. It was a scary thought -- and even scarier that he was already thinking this long term. But he couldn't help it. He needed to make this work, because he felt like his life and heart was depending on it. Which made it only scarier. And yet, he felt no fear in this moment. How was it that she could keep him so calm and composed when he should be freaking out at feeling these intense emotions so suddenly. He looked down at her hand as it also touched his and continued to smile. The more contact between them, the better.

There is was, the Paul she knew and . . . . knew. He thanked her for calling him hot, and winked (WINKED!) at her. Paul Lahote winked at her. It was so off from how he normally treated her and so much of how she always wanted him to treat and so very, very Paul that Rachael found herself staring up at him for a moment before her lips tilted into a smile, and she had to press them together to keep it from overly showing. "Not quite what I meant."
It did go a ways into easing some of the weird feelings she was having. This was Paul. Not the scary crush of her high school years, but just a guy who she could handle. Hopefully. "I meant that you felt hot. More so then what is deemed normal." There, that was better phrased. Lifting their linked hands she held them up between them, "Your skin. It's its hot from whatever you were doing a bit ago." Since he wasn't acting sick that had to be the reason. From doing something. Yeah?

When she smiled, he felt his whole world stopped as he just stared for a while. How could someone be so beautiful? He felt like she was taking his breath away and . . . and what. How could he say he didn't like that. How could he admit to being terrified by all this, when right now, it felt so wonderful. She was going on about commenting on his body temperature and this and that, but all he could do was stare at her, in awe of her beauty. He knew his skin was warm, but who cared right now. "You're really beautiful." Did . . . wait, had he just said that out loud?! As soon as the words left his lips, he felt like kicking himself. Who said things like that?!
Since when he did use the word 'beautiful'?! Sure, he would use words like 'hot' or 'fiiiine' or something along those lines . . . but beautiful?! That was not in his vocabulary. Maybe it was because he had never meant anyone so beautiful . . . until now. And besides, just because he felt like an idiot saying it, didn't mean that the words weren't true. He said them with sincerity, which just made him feel dumber. He forced his gaze away from her for a moment, trying to get a grip on himself and not be so . . . so . . . so . . . . . . . . un-Paul like. His mind was frantically trying to find something else to say, something to change the subject, yet the harder he tried to think of something, the less was coming to mind.

She was really what? Paul said she was . . . Oh . . . .
Oh wow! That was a line, but oh it was a good one. Rachael felt her face beginning to blush, as she just stared at him. Apart of her wanted to pull her hand back, but she couldn't quite make herself do it. Paul said she was beautiful. While she didn't quite believe him, she would never forget this moment. "Paul, you've known me my whole life." And suddenly she was beautiful. Never paid any attention to her really. He's always just ignored her and favored her sister. Her sister. . . . oh. Did he think she was Rebecca? No. He'd called her Rachael. He knew who she was. "Why are you being nice to me now?"

"Paul, you've known me my whole life." That was true. Weren't they in some of the same classes. Her next question however left him a bit . . . unsure as to how to answer. She was asking why he was being nice to her, and he didn't know how to explain it. Because he didn't know either. He had indeed known her his whole life, but felt like this was the first time he was really seeing her. Yet thinking that and verbalizing that were two very different things. Paul wasn't good at the vocalizing part . . . he wasn't good at being sentimental. Because he hadn't found someone he wanted to be sentimental with. Once again, she changed that for him. He remained quiet -- another inconsistency in Paul's usual character -- as he tried to think of a way to answer that question.
As he thought of a suitable response, he continued to walk, and continued to hold her hand while doing so. "Well then clearly I was an idiot," he said jokingly, smiling, deciding to play it off with a joke to lighten the mood. "Which I'm pretty sure you thought too," he added, thinking specifically to that assignment with the baby that they had to work on together. "Look, what about a fresh start." No past baggage, no assumptions based on what happened in the past . . . he just wanted to start something new with her. Where she wouldn't compare the old Paul to the current Paul, because even he knew he was different in several ways . . . or well, for one main reason that caused other differences too.

He was an idiot? Paul was admitting to being an idiot because of how he treated someone? Then he said she thought he was one too. "Oh no! Of course not!" She quickly told him but she knew that it was more from trying to not to be rude. She had not thought him an idiot, but she had also used her smarts to defend herself back then too, which had turned into a barrier that didn't let people close.
Fresh start? "That would be nice." But she sounded a bit unsure. "So . . . A walk to where?" She asked because while he had asked her for a walk she had not really taken a step anywhere. His heat had distracted her and cause her to drop--HER PANTS! "OH!" She spun around (as best as she could since he had her hand) and noticed the waves had taken it a short distance away and they would be lost soon. Pulling her hand free she began wading out to grab them. "Hold on!" She had to get her pants!

She agreed that a fresh start would be nice, and then asked where they were walking to. Paul had no idea. He hadn't had any specific plan when he'd asked her. He'd just thought it would be an aimless walk, no set direction or destination. It was about the company more than anything else. Before he could answer with his typical 'I don't know' type of response, she seemed to have remembered something and it took him a moment to realize that she went to get her pants. Clothes were overrated. Besides, he was rather enjoying the view of her without them on.
Still, he knew he should do something to help. And with her small size, he didn't want the waves to over power her. He too went into the water, and it didn't take long -- or very many steps for that matter -- to catch up to her. "I'll get them for ya," he said, not waiting for an answer before he continued forward to get them. He was bigger and stronger -- in an abnormal way of course -- and knew that he could get to them faster. And when he did, he held on to them and began to walk back toward her. But did not yet hand them to her. "I'll only give them to you under one condition," he said a bit teasingly, but actually meant it at the same time.

She had not made it far when he passed her and kept going, seemingly not even affected by things like current and waves and water resistance. Rachael paused there and waited for him to grab then and turn to walk back. He teased her--PAUL WAS TEASING HER--about only giving them back if she did something, and Rachael decided to try to be playful.
"Or I could just take them!" She teased and reached for them, while trying to push him into the water like a smooth cool and collected girl who let no man affect her--only it was like pushing a brick wall, while standing on shifting sand, and she was the one who ended up falling backwards in the water. Standing quickly, she changed her mind. "Or you know . . . your way's find too." She tried to recover from her most recent embarrassing moment.

Paul couldn't help but chuckle at how adorable she was when she tried to push him and instead fell back. He loved that she seemed to be easing up a bit, and not being too serious or as shy. "No no," he said teasingly when she told him that his way may be better. "I think you should try your way again," he said playfully as he took a step back in the water, holding her pants a bit higher but not totally out of her reach. That is, until she came closer to him. He couldn't just give them to her, that would be too easy. Plus, he wanted her to come closer.
The feelings that she stirred inside of him whenever she was close were ones that he always wanted to feel. Even if they had just recently came, he wasn't sure he could endure being without them. How odd that was. To suddenly be so dependent on someone like this. He wasn't going to over think it though -- Paul seldom over thought anything. Instead, he was just going to go with it. And encourage this teasing dynamic that was occurring right now. "Come on," he urged, continuing with that playful and flirtatious tone of voice.

Apparently she changed the game he had been playing when she failed to be all cool. Now he was being more like the Paul she used to know, by teasing her. Only this time she didn't feel mocked, but apart of the joke, almost as if he was doing to make her play with him rather then him trying to be cool.
So she stood there for a moment, as if trying to decide on if she would play, then began trying to approach him again, her arms out from her body as she tried to maintain the balance he seemed to naturally have int he water. In the end she used the oldest trick in the book, and one that had used to work on Jake when he was younger. She paused as if seeing something behind him, and her mouth dropped open. When he glanced behind them, she jumped at him, trying to grab her pants.

Paul continued to smile as he watched her move closer to him, but then seemed to freeze and point behind her. Paul immediately turn his head, as it was a reflex. It may be gullible of him, but at the same time . . . who knew what it could be. With all the threats that he knew existed out there -- mostly the blood sucking leeches -- he never could be too careful. Especially when it came to Rachael. He felt strongly protective over her so if there was a vamp nearby, he wanted to make sure he dealt with it the only way he knew how, and well before it was within view of Rachael.
His eyes scanned the open water, not seeing anything, but kept looking just in case. One could never be too careful. He hadn't picked up a scent or anything. He wondered if Sam or the others had phased at all and noticed something. Should he too so that they could communicate? The Cullens knew better than to come here but that didn't mean some other stupid ass vampire didn't. Oh how he would love to rip their heads off. Now that would be a fun time! And so he kept looking, getting ready to ask her what she saw as he instinctively stepped slightly closer to her, to ensure he would be able to shield her body should there be a legitimate threat out there.

Rachael saw him turn away and then she jumped forward to try to grab her pants, only to find a stronger wave come in and push her back. She grabbed onto his arm for support but, her feet and lost the sand and she was no longer standing. Rachael had half expected them both to be pulled under but instead she managed to get her footing.
Standing back up she looked up at him for a moment, before cupping her hand and splashing him with a face full of water. Then another. "Clearly I can barely stand in the water! It's too deep for me to get a strong footing!" Plus she wasn't used too it, and the current left her unbalanced. She splashed him again. "What will it take get them back?"

Paul broke from his focus when he felt Rachael grab his arm and turned to look at her once more. That was when he realized that she had tricked him to distract him. Oh! Well wasn't that clever and sneaky of her. He chuckled once more, seeing her struggle with the strong currents from the water. He obviously wasn't going to let her get swept away by them so seeing her try to gain her balance was rather amusing to Paul, in an entirely playful way. And to further create that playful atmosphere, she splashed water at his face! She was also teasing herself, admitting that the water was too deep to get a strong footing. "Well, I can easily fix that." With that, he pulled her closer toward him, slightly lifting her off the ground with one hand wrapped around her, and kept her facing him so that he could look at her.
It felt impossible to stop smiling in her presence . . . and even impossible to stop staring at her. "There. Now you don't need any footing," he said, since her feet weren't touching the ground. He had a firm hold of her with one hand -- since she was so petite, especially compared to him -- and his other hand continued to hold the pants, yet he was slowly forgetting about them. In this moment, with them so close, he wanted nothing more than to kiss her, but her question brought him back to reality and reminded him that he could still have some fun with this. "Well, first thing it would take--" He was going to see how much he could get out of this. "Is a date. Tonight." Because after they left the beach, he knew he wouldn't be able to wait that long to see her again.

She had seemingly forgotten about a lot of things while playing with him in the water, but when he lifted her up, everything froze and became clear again. PAUL LAHOTE! She was in his arms! He was HOLDING her!! PAUL was holding her, and smiling at her!! Rachael had to remind herself to breathe. Today could get no better.
The catch was a date? A DATE? Tonight! Did she even have clothes to wear that were not jeans?! What had she packed?! "You . . . . You want to go out on a date with me?" PAUL was asking her on a date! Every high school dream she'd had started with this moment. Apparently today COULD get better. MUCH better. "You said first. Is there more?" While she had not said yes, she also knew there was no way the excitement could be kept fully from her face. Surely he would see it. Her heart was beating so quickly at the feeling hit her.

Paul kept smiling when she repeated his question. "Yup," he answered, casually and confidently, as if it was so obvious. Who wouldn't want to date her?! Though anyone else who had the thought would get a nice beating from him. "Well, I can't tell you the next one if you don't agree to this one," he said teasingly. If she said no . . . well, he just wasn't going to accept that answer. He would keep trying, and trying because he felt like he wanted to spend every waking moment with her. Such intense emotions for just seeing her now. He welcomed them though, because she made him feel incredible.
"So, is that a yes then?" He asked, obviously hinting toward the answer he wanted to hear more. And of course her answer would affect the other 'conditions' he would get her to agree to before he gave her back her pants. Which he was only reminded of because it was the reason he was not holding her with both his hands.

"Yes, it is a yes." Because when Paul Lahote asked you on a date after your had a secret crush on him for years, you did not say no! You instead went home to try on everything you happened to have packed, and wonder if it would not be easier to just buy something new while down here. "Sounds like fun." She added since she wasn't sure what else to say.
She could not tell him how her mind was racing with so many different ideas, and things that she had to do before going on a date with him. "Now that I agreed, do I get to know what else you are going to demand of me, before giving me back what is really mine anyway?"
