A frown across his pale face ever so slightly, Carlisle whispered soothing words to the woman changing into a vampire before him. It was Esme Evenson, a girl who he had treated when she was sixteen from breaking her leg. He remembered perfectly, she had fallen out of a tree. It hadn't been a whole year after that that they ended up moving away, as it was hard to stay in one place at a time when you never aged. Usually two or three years was the max, depending on how early you started at.
"Don't worry, it's almost over." Carlisle whispered gently, as he could tell by her heartbeat. He remembered Edward's transformation just fine with his perfect memory, though he had guessed that all transformations would be slightly different. This one had been slightly faster, as he had bitten her in more spots. He was surprised that he hadn't died on the spot after jumping off a cliff. He knew why she had done it, her child had died days before. She had run away from her home, though why he was not sure of.
Focusing more on her heartbeat than anything else, Carlisle could hear it's speed. It was like a hammer hitting a wall to human ears, loud and clear. That did come with being a vampire, intensified senses. It came in handy at sometimes, like telling if someone was living, dying, bleeding, or any of that. He stood by the bed he had laid her on what seemed like a long time ago, waiting for it to end. He knew what it felt like during the transformation, like you were on fire and in so much more pain.

The only thing Esme could remember was when she had threw herself off the clift. She didn’t really want to die. She wanted to stop being hurt. After the lost of her baby nothing really mattered to her. Her husband was unkind to her and the only that kept her going was this tiny child now that he was gone nothing mattered or so she had thought when she had made the decision to jump. She had been declare dead and sent to the morgue, but her heart was still beating, barely but just enough to be save. The paramedics didn’t see that. She could now hear some whispering words into her ear and she wasn;t afraid. For some reason the pain she was currently feeling was smooth away by the voice. She knew she had heard it somewhere before but she couldn’t remember where. Her face started to twist in a grimace of pain. But not once did she screamed. She knew the pain would soon enough stop. She didn’t know how she knew that but she just did. After what could have been minutes or hours she didn’t know as she had lost track of time her eyes open slowly. Everything around her started to feel different. The smells for one, then her hearing. She sat up in her bed and looked around. Her eyes felt on Carlisle. Dr. Carlisle. She had seen him so long ago when she had been a young foolish girl and had felt off a tree. She had broke her leg. Dr. Carlisle had been the one treating her that day. She had felt for him also on that day as well but of course soon enough he had been gone and she never thought she would see him again. But there he was. “What happened?” she asked in a small voice. She was not afraid. She trusted him.

When Esme's heartbeat stopped, Carlisle focused his golden-brown eyes on her face. It was still slightly round, not like other female vampires that he had seen. He assumed that that was because she had been pregnant not even two weeks previously, so it was probably more natural for her to have a little bit extra weight. But none the less, she was still more beautiful than ever. As were all vampires. There was something more special about her though than previous she vampires he had met before.
When her eyes opened, the bloodred that all newborns had, Carlisle gave her a comforting smile. It was extremely confusing when you woke up, having no idea what had happened. He had known what had happened, which had made him extremely lucky since he had been alone. 'What happened?' The doctor held back a sigh. This was one part of the transformation that didn't always please him, as he had learned from Edward. Explaining that he had changed her into a vampire might be difficult, and newborns weren't always to calm.
"Esme, first of all I want to tell you what I did was for good intentions. You jumped off the cliff after your son died from a lunge infection, and they automatically presumed you were dead. I knew that you were not, but didn't have much time left." Carlisle hesitated on how to continue. He sighed lightly before continuing. "I changed you into a vampire." Was all he said after that. He would wait patiently for her reaction, no matter what it would be he would understand. He wasn't sure how he would have reacted if he hadn't known what he was becoming.

The comforting smile Carlisle gave her was enough to make her not go crazy and keep calm. Because what was about to follow would obviously send anyone over the edge of craziness. Even thought for some reason she felt as if she could trust Carlisle she was afraid of what might have happened to her. Hadn’t she just jumped off a clift? She should have been dead? Yet there she was looking into those beautiful amber eyes.
His voice was soft yet in his tone there was some concern and something that clearly could have been taken for fear. What was going on? He was saying that he did what he did for good intentions. But after relating the recent events to her he mentioned the vampire thing. Wait he mush have been crazy but when she lookws at him he doesn’t look crazy. No he is serious.
“What Carlisle? This doesn’t make any sense!” she toldl him while standing up. But once she finally stood up, she felt different. She started to realised that things smelled more then they usually did and that she could hear things more clearly but more stangely she couldn’t hear or feel her heartbeat. Could this be true? She locked her eyes on him trying to see deeper into them.
He hadn’t changed ever since she had seen him. He looked as if he hadn’t aged a day. A vampire...A vampire never aged right? Or so the stories said. ‘’How old are you Carlisle?’ She managed to ask him.

Carlisle was surprised with how calmly Esme seemed to be taking this all in. He wondered briefly if it was just an act to fool him, but in his opinion she seemed like too much of a kind person to do something as childish as that. He just kept the sympathetic smile across his face for her. He was just glad he hadn't been cruel like some vampires where, and left who they changed by themselves. It could be an extremely bad thing, and rarely would it ever turn out to be a good thing.
The change of Esme's tone did surprise Carlisle slightly. It seemed like she wasn't taking this was calmly as he had though so mere seconds ago. "I know it must be extremely confusing for you, but I'm afraid that I am speaking the truth. Tell me, do you honestly feel the exact same way as you did three days ago?" He already knew that the answer would be no. There would be an immense burning in her throat, and she'd have to feel much stronger and much more graceful.
The asking of his age surprised him slightly. Carlisle wasn't sure of his exact age, as his human life was too clear. "I am physically about 23 years of age. But I have been living since around the 1640s, so I'm nearly 300 years old." He explained in his calm, collected tone. Age was but a mere number, it meant nothing. Just because you were very young or very old didn't mean you necessarily acted your age, whether a vampire or a human.

Esme had trouble understanding her own reaction. She felt calm for someone who had been told something as strange as this. Maybe it was because she trusted Carlisle completly. She didn’t understood why she trusted him; it just felt right. Even thought the whole thing sounded crazy she thought it was better to have this crazy with Carlisle then on her own. If this had been the case maybe she wouldn’t have taken it as well as she just had. But once he had mentionned the vampire word the calmness she felt was slowly fading away. This clearly wasn’t making any sense, he wasn’t making any sense. Yet as crazy as it sounded things were actually starting to make sense. Well more like they were somewhat adding up quite nicely in her mind. She waited a bit before answering his question making sure she had understood it properly. She shook her head slowly. ‘’I feel different, things around me feel different. It’s as if my senses are more powerfull then they have ever been before.’’ She explained to him. ‘’is this normal?’’ she wondered outloud. ‘’and it feels as if my throat is on fire...’’ she added. ‘’that would explained why you haven’t change ever since i had first laid eyes on you.’’ She told him before speaking up again. ‘’But let’s say this is real, that vampires do exist and that you are part of it and now so am I...does it mean I have to kill people in order to stay alive?’’ She asked feeling somewhat scared. She didn’t think she could ever deal with such a thing. She wasn’t the type of person that could just kill someone else like that. ‘’And then what do we do? And why me? Why change me Carlisle?’’ She wondered.

Carlisle appraised over Esme quickly. She was beautiful, of course, as were all vampires even if they had the rather disturbing blood red eyes. He was used to crimson eyes much more than his own golden-brown ones, even with Edward as a companion. "Yes, of course. The burning of your throat means that you're thirsty, and I assume that you would already know that it wasn't for water." He explained, knowing that as a newborn her thirst would be much more than his own.
When Esme asked the doctor if she had to kill anyone, Carlisle quickly shook his head no. "Of course not! That's why my eyes aren't a shade of red. I, as you will if you decide to stay with Edward and I, feed off of the blood of animals." The blonde couldn't possibly imagine a person like Esme killing some one, she seemed much to sweet and innocent to do something like that. She also seemed much to motherly to try to do something like that, but it might have been like that to him since she had just recently lost a child.
Why? The question rang repeatedly in Carlisle's ears. He let out a soft sign, explaining why he had decided to change Esme of all people was a harder thing to explain. Taking an unnecessary deep breath, he spoke. "You didn't deserve to die. I know that you were forced into marriage, and I wanted to give you a second change at life. Though, I highly doubt this is how you would have imagined a second chance."

When he said that he assumed she already knew she wasn’t thirsty for water she felt as if she was going to die. She didn’t want to be thirsty for human blood. She didn’t want to have to feed off from other people in order to survive. If this what it meant to be a vampire she would have to find another way to end her life. But for some reason she felt there had to be another way because there was no way Carlisle would kill people. Carlisle was a good man. She nodded simply letting him know that she knew she didn’t want water.
“Are my eyes red?” She asked him starting to feel somewhat self conscious. It wasn’t usually Esme to feel self conscious but now that she might have red eyes she did. She didn’t want to look like a monster. “I want to stay with you.” She told him truthfully. She couldn’t imagine herself living with anyone else other then him at the moment. He had saved her. Gave her a life she never could have expected. Even thought drinking the blood of animals would normally have made her sick right now it sounded tempting. She listen to him and could feel how hard it must have been for him to take such a decision. It probably wasn’t something easy to do. Specially since he didn’t drink human blood usually. She wondered what was the difference between the two, human vs animal blood. “Thank you” She said her hand reaching over to take a hold of his hand. [Location - Wisconsin, 1921]

The question about Esme's eye color did surprise Carlisle slightly, as it wasn't the type of question he had expected. He had expected her to be angry, furious even at him for turning her into a vampire. "Yes, they are red. They will fade over time to gold, though, and the animal blood helps dillute the color quicker than a traditional vampire diet." He explained, still slightly surprised with her calmness. This didn't seem to normal, but she had always seemed like a calm person.
Ahh, that was probably a good thing. Carlisle didn't want to set a newborn loose to wreck havoc on innocent civilizians in Wisconsin, and it probably wouldn't be the best idea. The Volturi could possibly step in if it got too wild, and both Esme and him would get destroyed. "That's good. As there are rules to being a vampire. It's really just one, but quite a few things fall under the category. It's rather obvious, to keep the secret. If you break the law, the Volturi will destroy you. The Volturi are a coven of vampires that reside in Volterra, Italy. They are basically the rulers of the vampire world."
Carlisle had spent a decare or so with the Volturi, and had learned quite a bit about vampires. Though, he had stuck to his animal diet the whole time tehre not tempted by the spilled blood. He gave Esme's hand a gentle squeeze as their hands connected. "Your welcome," he was surprised and not entirely sure of what she meant by her thanking. Was she possibly glad that he had changed her into a vampire? That didn't seem too likely.

Even thought she felt as if she could explode from rage or fear in the next few seconds Esme wanted to remain calm. Trying to keep herself calm felt like it was the only thing that could keep her sane at the moment. Vampires, blood and all of this didn’t make sense yet at the same time the fact that she was still alive didn’t make sense either. She nodded. “I’m not sure what do think about all of this Carlisle. It all sounds so surreal…” She said in all honesty. “How a vampire does lives?” she wondered out loud Rules. Of course there had to be rules. All worlds should have rules and she figured since some of the vampires drink human blood there had to be some sort of rules so the existence of vampire wasn’t known to human. Otherwise it could cause trouble. But then who made the rules? Who would decide what can be done and what are the punishment? She nodded. “But by changing me didn’t you break the rules?” she wondered. She didn’t want Carlisle to get in trouble because of her. Well not really because of her as he had taken this decision on his own but still. She smiled when she felt his hand squeeze hers. “I don’t know what to think Carlisle…” she could feel tears tickling her eyes. She was happy to have been given a second chance at life but at the same time she was no human anymore. She didn’t know which one was worst. “I’m glad I have been given a second chance. But a vampire? It’s…I don’t know how I can handle this.” She was scared and didn’t know what to think anymore

"Most vampires are nomadic, and they just travel by themself or with another around the world killing humans. Edward and I move around the states and pose as humans are age, as you might have noticed when we met previously." Carlisle explained, quite glad that he had found about the animal life style by trying to kill himself. It was a good alternative to that than actually die, as he was able to use what he was to end up helping others.
"No, changing a human does not break any laws by the Volturi. If you were human and I had told you, the law would be broken and we'd both be killed. As long as no humans know, most likely your safe. There is another way to break the law, which is to create a vampire of someone as a child." Carlisle knew little about Immortal Children, but had the whole grand idea from living with the Volturi for about a decade. It had helped him learn quite a bit of information about other vampires.
"I can see why, as I was alone when I was turned. It's a lot to take in, but your seeming to take it all rather well." Hopefully Carlisle wouldn't have to take back those words to soon and she'd go into a fit of rage. That wouldn't be the best thing, as he wasn't paticularly strong. Perhaps if Edward was here it would be a little easier, as he truly could understand it better seeing as he could have been able to read her thoughts.

Killing humans. The thought chilled her to the bone. Which of course was a figure of speech as she realised that she didn’t feel cold nor did she feel warm. Was this also part of being a vampire? Never feeloing anything physical again. This thought actually scared her. Would she still experience feelings? Of course she could. She was feeling fear mixed with a hit of rage. She nodded. ‘’what about you. Would you rather live alone or with someone else?’’ Esme felt horrifid when he said that another way to be killed by the Volturi would be to change a child. ‘’Why why would someone change a child?’’ she couldn’t understand forcing a child to be a creature of the night. “that’s just awful…” She said her heart going to the poor children who hadn’t been giving a choice. Well she hadn’t been giving a choice but it was different. She was older now, she…she didn’t even knew why it affected her so much the thought of a vampire child.

Perhaps if Edward was here it would be a little easier, as he truly could understand it better seeing as he could have been able to read her thoughts. “I know it’s strange that I’m not freaking out Carlisle. But for some reason deep down even thought I’m deeply scared I know that what you did was for my own good and I trust you.” She told him. “I’m trying to hold on to the fact that I feel safe with you in order not to freak out.” She wanted to be honest with him. Ever since she had first laid eyes on him years ago she knew that she wanted to be with him. Maybe this was her chance to get what she had wanted for so long. [Location - Wisconsin, 1921]
