Maria was waiting.
It was dark out, but that was when she felt more at home. The only lights were the out side lights of the Police Station she was standing out side of. While there were one or two people inside, Maria was leaning on the wall facing the woods. There was no windows for them to look out and see her.
Maria was waiting for him.
Maria had send him another 'message' this time in the form of a non crying little child. The human, a random hiker who thought she was an angel, had let the letter in the mail box for Jasper Whitlock, and in it was a short message. 'I am leaving Forks. We need to talk. Find me. Now.' And the nothing else. Maria then, let a trail of her scent so he could follow it, and find her here.
Maria was waiting for Jasper.

Jasper did not want to meet Maria. He did not want to look at her, or be in the same vicinity as her. There was one partially intriguing part of her letter which stated that she was leaving Forks. He did not fully believe her though. It would not be the first time she had twisted the truth in her own deranged way . . . and after nearly killing her, he was not sure he would be able to restrain himself again. But still, Jasper felt the necessity to go. He wanted to see what was of such urgency that she too wished to see him after their . . . physical altercation upon their last meeting.
He was not following her orders; he was doing this to protect his family, to make sure she was out of their lives for good, to be certain that she would never be around Alice. If there was a way to be sure of this -- apart from killing her -- then he would find it and try to make ends meet. No doubt, Maria had some sort of scheme going on . . . and still, Jasper planned to meet her.
On his way, he could already pick up her trail and followed her as quickly as possible. When he was near her, he kept a distance of several feet between them, as he started at her from behind, for he had approached her from that angle. His expression was dead. He had nothing to say, he felt nothing when he was around her, he just merely looked at her blankly, wanting this to be over even before their conversation started. And so, he stood in silence, waiting for her to speak her mind and tell him why she wanted to meet him . . . and why she was here in Forks for this long.

"You know me well, Jasper." She spoke not looking away from the stars above she was looking at. "I never do anything with out a plan. I cam here with out plan, as you would know it, but I had a plan." Her brows bent together. "No, I had a goal, which I had not plan to reach. It was odd working this way, and I hated it. I have learned things, while here."
She was not rambling, "Learned things I already knew, but had not realized it." Her gaze dropped to Jaspers, "I am no one's pawn. I was being used as one." Her eyes narrowed as they trailed away, it was clear to see she plotting against someone. "It was the first time, I fell for another's plans. It will be the last!"

Ah, so the table had turned. If what she said was true, then she had been a victim of a plot . . . just like the many she had created herself. He wanted to ask her how it felt to be the victim . . . he wanted to make some snide remark about how things have reversed themselves . . . but instead, he remained silent. He could feel how be played made her feel, and it was obviously not the most pleasant emotions. He was not going to use them as an excuse though; he was going to isolate himself from her emotions.
He did not react to her words . . . he did sense truth in them though, but maybe he was being naive. Maria could never be trusted, and he would not put it beneath her to be a master manipulator of her feelings around him, so that the right ones would be associated with the truth. But still . . . Jasper's instincts were telling him that she spoke the truth, if not the full truth, then partially. He still did not speak. He continued to stand there, staring at her. He was looking at her, as if to is 'is this why you called me here'? But he did not want to speak, and he did not want to show the slightest emotion. He would just let her speak. He had after all, nearly killed her before and he would not let things get that intense again.

Maria watched him and wondered what he was thinking. Nothing grand she was sure. "This is not good bye, Jasper but I have the feeling once you know . . . the details of my adventures here, the next meeting might be you seeking me out." She doubted he would, however she liked the sound of the words. The little wife wouldn't let him, swearing they would fins another way.
Maria however, was going to count on, Jasper and his 'love' to want to protect them. "I assume you know who sent me here?" She asked, watching him for a sign of reaction, if not words. A nod or something, so that she may continue her speech.

Her words made little sense to him. For what possible reason would he be the one seeking her out? Even since she had come here, it had been the reverse, and every time they departed, he hoped never to see her again. He was getting ready to leave, but was torn as what to do. Her question made up his mind. He would hear her out . . . but his hopes had fallen drastically when she said that this was not good bye. This meant that there was something she was planning, something that involved him or his family and he did not want to be involved in her games any longer.
When she did ask her question however, he slightly raised his head. This was most certainly going somewhere. "Yes," he said in a flat, monotone voice. He would not speak more than he needed to, but he did know that Aro was the one who had sent her, and so expressed this confirmation with one simple, short term.

Maria was angry enough to not do Aro's bidding. She would send Felix back with a note for Aro, meant to sooth ruffled feathers and assure an out come she needed. Jasper's reactions here tonight, would pick what out come she wanted. "You asked me, when I first came here, why I was here. I didn't tell you, then it didn't suit me. I was here with a goal in mind. After refection, I see it was not -my- goal."
She however, was not going to give something for nothing. She was going to make him ask for it. She knew how he worked, letting his self remained detached wouldn't help her plans. HER plans, not ARO'S plans. "If you were to ask me again, I would answer honestly."

Jasper was growing impatient, though he did not show outwardly signs of it. Surely she knew that she was wasting his time by giving parts of what she was saying, and then leaving out the important details. He did not trust that she was going to give an honest answer, but he knew he could not just walk away . . . or could he? Who was going to benefit more from knowing the plans: him, because it would effect him in a way more than he thought now, or her because she needed him for this plan of hers? It was a difficult question indeed, but he needed to reach a decision. The sooner, the better.
"Do not waste my time." It was not exactly asking her of her plans, or the plan she had fallen in to . . . it was merely an expression of how he did not want to stand here, talking in circles all night. His voice was stern, and very serious. A further demonstration that there was no room for games.

Maria gave a short shrug of her shoulders. "The I wont. I will bid you farewell, Jasper." She pushed off from the wall, and gave him overly dramatic wave of good by, before turning slowly away, moving slow for even a human. "But you can trust, that I will not be the last pawn he will send, to do what I was sent to do here. The next one, wont have any silly sentiments for you because of a shared pasted." With that she finished her turn and started to walk away. A smile formed on her lips, knowing with that last comment, he would want to know more.
Even if he let her walk away now, her would seek her out (proving her correct) to learn what dangers lie in wait for the Cullens.

Jasper's confusion grew, and while he wanted to watch her leave and never come back . . . he knew there was something more. He knew that she had something to tell him, and whether it would be truth or not, could only be determined once all the information was disclosed. Still, could Jasper really give her a reason to prolong this unwanted conversation? He continued to watch, knowing it would not take long for her to be out of sight completely. He also suspected that it was not sentiment that caused Maria to tell him this so called helpful information. He was suspicious that by telling him, she would receive some benefit from it as well.
Regardless of her slow pace, he moved at a speed only vampires could, and stood firmly in front of her, blocking her from moving forward. He needed to know more, but he would not beg and grovel her to tell. He was not even sure if this information would be useful in any way, or if it was just part of some greater plan that involved his family, solely for the purpose of her getting revenge on the enemies that played her.
"Tell me," he said in a voice that did not express interest, though he really was interested. He would hear her out, and then judge the severity of the situation. The way he spoke the two words was somewhere along the lines of a command, but he did not say it too forcefully for he knew Maria did not take well to being told what to do.

Maria keep her smile on her face when he blocked her but keep distant. "Jasper, your playing a game, and I don't play well with others." She said, "You can stop trying to ignore me and learn something, or you go back to your animal drinkers and wait for the next wave of trouble that gets sent your way!"
"I have limited time here, as Felix is hunting and I do not want him knowing, I spoke with you. You can either stop waiting time, or go away." If Felix knew, Aro would know.

Jasper was sick of Maria's games. He had been sick of her games decades ago. And here she was, accusing him of playing a game? Jasper did not want to waste another unnecessary moment with her. "I am standing here in front of you. Now speak what you say is so imperative for me to hear." He was not going to rebuttal everything she said; he was not going to defend himself in her presence. He was merely trying to end this conversation instead of humoring her in any way.

He wanted it? FINE! She whispered in a voice so low that it would be imposable for humans to hear, much less Felix if he was close by, "Aro sent me to have you killed." She gave a chuckled of excitement and then walked backwards a few steps. "You, your wife, your . . . .coven." She leaned back on the building watching him for reactions. Most vampire nor humans could not read Jasper's face. He wore it in a mask almost all the time, but Maria had learned to look for small signs that gave her hints and insights. "Do you want to know more, or are you going to keep trying to boss little Maria around?"

Jasper stood there, completely still. He was not breathing, he was not flinching, he did not cringe, he just stood there. He would have accused her of lying, but every emotion in her screamed honesty. Then again, she knew him well enough to be able to counter those emotions . . . but Jasper's instincts were telling him that she was speaking the truth. He looked at her, expressionless, as his mind raced in a hundred different directions. Why? How? Those questions were useless for he feared he already knew the answer.
"How was this plot concealed?" He was assuming Maria knew what he meant when he said concealed. How did Alice not see? How did the other Volturi not know, or allow this to happen? Whichever it was, neither was a comforting though. The question that was most rampant in Jasper's mind was . . . why was she telling him. It would be the next question he asked her, once he tried to get over the horror of this thought. It was not that he sent Maria -- of all people -- , but just the idea that he had ordered someone to kill them. "You have come alone." It was both a question and a statement. How did Aro expect her to destroy an entire coven. Where was her army? Did he support her in building one? There were too many questions that he needed to ask, and yet . . . he wanted detailed answers to each one. Jasper was not one to ramble; he would not start now.

Maria let out a telling chuckle. "You've grown weak minded with your coven, Jasper. Little Maria did not come alone. No, no. I have Felix and an few friends near by." Friends being a small coven, she made. Aro said he was willing to over look her past. "I wasn't sent to kill you personally. No, Aro wants that pleasure for him self. He seeks to plan it, so your little wife, and the mind reader will have to join them, or watch you die." Maria explained.
"I was sent to set it motion. A little misbehavior to draw attention to you." She being to explain, "You should thank only your self. Aro is seems, has become aware of our past. When you thought about it around the mind reader, and then Aro touched him. . . . . He knows to much." Maria glared at him for a moment before, her face went calm. "He was willing to over look any . . . misbehavior. . . I would do here, if he got what he wanted."

Jasper felt the anger build inside of him as Maria presented a hypothetical situation where Alice would be blackmailed to join the Volturi. He would die before he let that happen . . . which is apparently what Aro was going to use as leverage against her. He tried to control his anger, but his expression began to alter into a bit of a glare. "That will never happen." His voice was blunt. Jasper was not going to let Alice go so easily. He would do whatever it took to make her safe; even if he had to die the most agonizing of deaths. Had he not been so angry at the suggestion, he would have questioned her 'friends' who had come. But as the image of Alice being forced into the Volturi entered his mind . . . he grew more and more furious.
Aro knew about him? He knew everything, and yet he was willing to let Maria go if she did . . . what she was sent to do. This was appalling. Aro really must be at the peak of desperation if he sought out Maria to do his bidding. Maria, of all vampires. It was a strategic move, but to Jasper, it was infuriating. "I am not giving him a single thing that he wants." Once again, his voice was blunt. It was low, but firm and expressed only some of the anger he felt inside. If he were to express it all, he would most probably be engaged in a physical fight with Maria right now. While trying to process everything she was saying, he asked the next obvious question.
"Why are you telling me this?" What could Maria possibly want. Did she want to overthrow Aro and take over the Volturi? Terrible. Maria, being the one in control to ensure the secrecy of vampires . . . and make sure everything was secure and stable . . . Jasper did not even want to imagine what the world would be like if that ever happened. Why did she not want to use Aro's ploy, and have her freedom granted to her by him? Jasper was almost afraid to hear what she planned to gain by disclosing this plan of hers to him. He had to know though. He had no choice but to get as many details as he could. His gut was telling him that her disclosing this plot, was not part of Aro's ultimate plan. Jasper stood there, waiting for an answer, using all his strength to control himself, despite the upsetting information he had just been told.

Maria pushed softly from the wall and walked over to him, letting her palms from to rest on his chest. "Jasper, What have I ever wanted?" She asked as if he was missing something important. "I am not so brainless as Aro, to want to control the world. Can you imange the work required in keeping it?"
"I want my city. I want to explain my lands to hold two city, if need be. And I want the Volturi out of the way, forever." She would be happy in her city, where she could feed all she wanted, and play with all the manly toys she had. Simple, yet grand lifestyle. She couldn't ave that if Aro keep showing up and ruining everything! "Why am I telling you this, can be found in what I want the very most. . . . " An unbeatable army. A powerful general. Even if he did not stay with her forever, she wanted his help to end the thread of the Volturi.

He immediately took a step away from her, not wanting to be close to her and not wanting to have any physical contact. Jasper did not like where this was going. She was going to give him an ultimatum no doubt, and Jasper did not know what to do. "Maria, it is unrealistic to want an army large enough to overthrow the Volturi." Jasper wondered how large she was expecting this army to be. He did not want to be part of it in any way, but, what if that was the only way to save his family? To save his wife? "State what exactly it is that you want from me." He hated this. He hated that she kept coming back into his life, and now she came with one of her devious plans to take over the world . . . or her city, to be more specific.

Maria only followed him as he moved backwards. "Oh Jasper, how weak minded you have become." Maria smiled. "You already have half the army I would need. With a few more, ones powerful enough, we could smite the giant with out having the numbers you are thinking." It was true, how many of them have been on the clearing field. "It's not like, you and yours haven't defeated them before."
"It was why I was sent here. Not to kill you all but cause enough enough trouble a new trip would be needed. One that would happen quickly, and if I could remove a few of the stronger players so the Volturi could do their job. . . . . You know what job that is, Jasper dearest?"
He knew, she had already told him but she was reminding him. "I think you will agree with this plan. It will not be today, or a year from now perhaps, but you will. The Volturi want you dead Jasper, you and yours. . . . I hold the skills to remove the threat."

Jasper continued to keep a distance between them. "Do not speak collectively." We. Us. Jasper hated being affiliated with Maria. He was still not sure if this was his only option; his mind was processing all the possibilities to avoid any sort of plan with Maria. "My family is not going to be involved in this Maria. Only speak of my involvement, the others are not included." There was no way he was going to allow his wife, his family to be part of this twisted plan to overthrow the Volturi. Jasper knew the success rate was very low. That what she was talking about, had never been done before . . . but surely must have been attempted multiple times. "We did not defeat them in the way you are anticipating. We put them in a situation where they knew they could not justify our destruction."
Jasper continued to try and think of an alternative option. "Destroying you would certainly eliminate possibilities of an army." If he killed Maria . . . not only would Jasper feel immense relief . . . but perhaps his actions would be overseen especially if Aro came to know about her plan. "Perhaps Aro would overlook your death, if it meant that an army against him would have been prevented." Jasper would be the only one at risk of facing the consequences, and if it mean that his family was protected and stayed safe, then he knew it was worth it.

"Yes, Jasper." She said in a tone that said she was annoyed, but trying to hide it. "Kill me. See where that gets you!" She was annoyed because he had almost done it, but failed because of his moronic soft emotions! "Would you like me to tell you where? Dead! Aro might not care about my death, but he will send another to do my job here. . . . he will do this, even if I am alive. You can try to defeat him, but I think you know, with out my knowledge, and 'skills' you will fail . . . I have been plotting the down fall of that tyrant for years. "I do not need you Maria." Jasper refused to acknowledge that he would ever need her again. When he was part of her army . . . he thought he wouldn't be able to survive without her. He had been severely attached to her, he had needed her in so many ways. And now, he did not. He would not let her control him anymore, no matter how convenient it proved to be. He slight raised his chin, making his position straighter, as a solider would stand in the presence of anyone . . . not a superior, anyone. "Killing you will grant me great satisfaction." Jasper could not be selfish enough to do that though. Even if it would protect his family, Aro was the true threat right now and Jasper could not defeat the Volturi leader.
"Give me one reason Maria. Prove to me that you will be useful. If not, I will dispose of you right now." It was a threat. His anger was consuming him, and he knew he had to control it . . . last time, he had nearly killed her. If it happened again, he could not be certain that it would be an 'almost'.

Maria was annoyed, and slightly afraid but didn't bother to show it, she never showed her emotions. She only laughed a deep chuckle, and watched him. She was however, very aware of every move he made. If he moved closer to her, she could easily go though the wall next to her and ruin the Cullen's hide in plain sight ideas.
"Only one, my little lock of love?" She asked him, "I will never be yours to use, so there is nothing to prove. However, there will come a time when Aro's power hungry ways and greedy eyes drift again to your wife, and brother in law. He will crave her, and find some reason to come and take her." She smiled, "When the death army comes, who will your family turn to this time? Everyone will not come to stand with you twice, Aro will make sure that next time, were will not be enough witness that he can't leave with what he wants."
"You can kill me Jasper Dearest, but I think your one reason, is fear of a life with out me there." He would need her one day, when he was out numbered. If not for him, then his wife. One day, he would need her.

Her laughter was a mask; Jasper could feel it. But he never vocalized it. He would read other people's -- or vampire's -- emotions but he seldom called out on what feelings they were concealing, or trying to conceal, from him. "I do not fear a life without you. I fear a life void of the only woman I care about, Alice." He was not trying to gain her sympathy, nor was he trying to speak out his fear and where he was vulnerable. Though he was filled with emotion every time he thought of Alice, his tone in which he spoke was flat, emotionless. "As I said previously, I no longer need you. You may be of use and your skills and knowledge may be convenient, but never again will I be desperate enough to need you in my life."
He knew that he needed to do something to protect Alice. He constantly feared Aro's plan for her. He was far too persistent to merely accept her decline to his invitation every time he asked her to join the Volturi. He was afraid that one day, she would not have the liberty to say no. "What grand plan is it that you have Maria. What could you possibly conjure up that would be great enough to lead to the downfall of the Volturi. No vampire has ever done it before. Those who have attempted, failed and perished. What makes you different from all those who have tried?"

Silly Jasper, silly silly imaginationless Jasper. When she had found him that night, oh so long ago, there had been something, something about him that Maria had found compelling. Special. New. So, Maria had turned him, and been proven right. Jasper had been the near perfect solider. Fast, quick minded, strong, and willing to take risk for high reward. When he fought he used his mind more then his strength. He planned for out comes and tried to see from all sides. He was one of the few who knew not to just try to see things from his foe's but from his own and a third party.
Still, for all Jasper was wroth, he lacked imagination to get creative, everything was a set of standardized moves and plays put in different orders to new situations. "I think you know why, Jasper Dearest." Was all she said, in her smug voice, and even her emotions displayed that smugness and confidence. Silly Jasper, silly silly imaginationless Jasper, one would think he would know better then question her on this. Maria never went into a battle she could not win. The only ones she lost were the surprise attacks on her, and even them she would get out of and make sure the other side took a might hot for over powering her. The Volturi them selves had yet to be able to distory her.

"In fact, I do not know." He was ignoring her emotions that went along with her words. "You are going to need more than a mere army to destroy the Volturi; and you are going to need more than what I am capable of doing." Jasper himself didn't even know what he was fully capable of. He had been a monter in the past, but since he had met Alice, he became less violent. Then again, in order to protect her and keep her safe, he was willing to return to that monster he had once been. He would do whatever it took. "As I said Maria, what great advantage do you have going into this battle." What sort of inside information did she have? She was excellent in strategies and manipulation, but that was not enough to bring down the vampire guard.

"I am not about to just show my hand to you, my little toy solider." She said with a slow smile, "You should know better then to ask. However, . . . " The word hung in the air for a few moments as Maria watched him, judging him. One could almost see her mind running a million miles an hour, always thinking, always learning, always plotting.
" . . . . If one was to decided to plan how to bring down the worlds most deadliest army, the first thing they need is know what pieces one has available to used." In Maria-words, that meant she had a plan, but it relied on one or two others to be key players. Someone other then just her. It meant, that until she knew if Jasper would join her she wasn't planning the details out yet.

"I wish to know something that provides assurance that this plan of yours is strong enough for remote success for if you fail, that puts my family in great danger." Which was already the current case. "It would have then been pointless to cause damage alongside you, rather than remain with my coven and fight with them, against others." Jasper hated this. He hated how he could not rid Maria from his life, and he hated how the Volturi always had to create a problem that prevented his family from ever having peace. When would it all end? What would the cost be? How many lives would be lost in the process? All these questions filled Jasper with a fear for his family's life . . . for Alice's life.
"What other pieces are you using? Surely it is not relying on my cooperation." Jasper did not know how he could ever go back to the way he was . . . . . . it was an ultimatum he would have to decide on, and soon.

Maria gave him a slow smile, before bring her finger tips up to her lips and sucked on them as if she had something she was eating off them, "Mmmm, Do you know what I like best about being immortal?" She watched him for a moment. "Being this young, and this delicious forever." She gave a short chuckle from deep with in her thin frame before she kept speaking in her voice that was deep and sultry for a vampire, though would still seem high for a human. "It's also the thirst! I forever feel it, and just the idea that I can drink when I want, and how much I want to very appeasing to me."
"However, I do not intend to risk my self. Aro has learned of my past and if i do not give him a reason to bring his army to the Cullen's door step he will come to mine. . . Now Jasper, dearest. You can help me with my plans or you can take a guess at which actions I will take." She had a plan, and a good one. One that would take some time to both set up and build. But she wasn't going to tell everyone that plan so it could get back to Aro.

Jasper ignored her remarks about drinking what and when she pleased. He knew she was just working on his weaknesses and right now, he needed that composure that he had been practicing for quite some time. Perhaps attending school had given him that practice after all, and served as a more rewarding experience, apart from the fact that he was able to spend time with his wife. "I do not doubt that you do have a plan." She always did. "However, I am not going to fall to your blackmail. We have stood against the Volturi, and will stand against them and you, as you carry out whatever plan you will." He knew that it would take some time to give a definite answer, but he already knew right away what Alice would say, and that was what was giving him the confidence to say what he was saying to Maria right now . . . because it was what Alice would have wanted.,
