Maria walked around the dance hall, looking like she owned it. She no where near owned it, however one would not have guessed by the way Maria worked the room and spoke to guest and she did not belong here. Maria noticed a small head not far before her, and she chuckled as she walked forward, her hips swayed the classical song playing.
She stopped less then a foot away and her chuckle slowly came to a musical stop. "Hmmm," She almost hummed out before speaking in her deep yet musically high voice, "Hello, Alice."

Alice was enjoying herself quite a bit at the Ball, so far, only little things had bothered her. But they seemed insignificant; the fact that Aro was still trying to recuit her which didn't help Jasper feel anymore realxed -- he had been protecting a lot of people during the event -- the fear for Renesmee around vampires, around the Volturi and apparently Maria. Arg, Maria; she never seemed to stop haunting Jasper, which meant she never stopped haunting Alice either.
Speak of the Devil... The oh so annoying musical chuckle was heard. Well, Alice could not say that she hadn't seen this coming, whether she saw it in the future or not. Alice turned swiftly to face Maria. "Maria." She did not have to pretend to be pleased to see this woman, she caused so many problems to the Cullens. Alice was glad Jasper was not with her now, honestly. She didn't want him to have to deal with Maria more. [/blockquote]

Maria watched Alice with a smile that was less friendly then most others she had worn tonight. It held an steel edge to it as her watched the short pixie like girl stand before her. Aro and everyone wanted Alice, and Maria wanted to be coveted like they wanted Alice. "I was just telling, your husband how delicious it was to see him again." Maria hoped it annoyed her.
Maria and Alice's husband at a past full of wicked and naughty secrets and while Maria was sure Alice knew most of them she was sure there were a few horrid little things in Jasper's past he fought hard to conceal from his family. A few very bloody, sexual secrets.

Alice's face was not in its usual happy and jovial expression, it was hard, unimpressed, annoyed really. Maria was the one personon the face of the earth that Alice wished harm and death to. She had done so many bad things to innocent people, scared so many lives and more, and she had done so many terrible things to Jasper. It was the biggest reason why she wished this woman would disappear entirely; if her husband felt pain, so did she, weather or not it be the same type of pain. It was how it worked, they both had to be happy in order to be so and be even more so.
Alice ignored Maria's tormenting this time. "It was very fantastic that he decided to come, wasn't it?" She shorter girl tilted her head lightly to one side, her eyes lightly narrowed for a short moment before reopening normally. "You know, news travels very quickly here... I heard you are with Felix now?" She sounded scarsticly shocked at the end. "How charming. When do you get you ‘wive's cloak’ and go live in the tower with the others?" Alice smirked. It was bound to hit Maria a little. This was the basic truth about the Volturi wives' lives. They never left the tower, only once as far as everyone knew; when Renesmee was discovered and reported by Irina. [/blockquote]

It didn't hit Maria at all. Had she loved Felix, then it might have annoyed or hurt her. However, Maria loved only Maria. She only gave a chuckle at Alice's words. "Felix Darling and I have purely physical relationship." She told the small girl, Alice was one of the few vampires, smaller then Maria. "Based on passion and love of the same things," Mainly her self and blood. "It is not unlike the relationship I shared with your husband."
Maria meant it hurt. They both would have to watch their words here. If either of them slipped and spoke of newborn armies both Maria AND Jasper would be killed in this very room for their past sins. Maria was not a fool, and knew well that the only reason the Cullens had not exposed her past was because doing so would damn Jasper as well as her.
Maybe even damn him, and them more. Aro would might want Maria keep alive for reasons between them. They had a history. If he did not, then a swift death would be all Maria got.
Jasper and the Cullens on the other hand . . Aro could use Jasper's past and Jasper's past life to force the little Pixie to finally join him.

Maria was unbelievable, and not in good terms. Having relations with someone but not liking them was cruel, unless the other person felt the same way, then it was a mute point. "Poor Felix, when he figures that one out." Felix did not seem like the type to just fool around, seemed a little more serious than that.
Alice held back her full anger and the hiss that threatened to escape her just for being around this woman. She knew what Maria wanted: for Alice to get mad or irritated. Not if she could help it. "What happened between you and my husband then has not significance today and has never had any," At least not since he left her army and found Alice. "It is time you grow up and realize that you are wasting your time trying to get him back into your ‘circle if friends’." All this was in a surprisingly calm enough tone of voice. She had to substitute to word ‘army’ with ‘circle of friends’ in order to keep her husband safe. She was sure Aro had seen the knowledge Alice had of her husband's past during the few times he had contact with her hand, but he did not act in that. Perhaps waiting for one of the involved to speak of it aloud, so they could take no chances here, in Volterra.

Maria didn't bother to tell Alice, that Felix was no more in love with her as she was with him. It was a relationship, based on passion. Felix would sleep with any pretty thing that flirted by, and he enjoyed Maria's 'games' enough to sleep with her more often. "I never say never, but should the day come were he realizes the only way he can. . . . well, lets just say that should event occur that I am aware of, Jasper just might call me. . . " Maria paused, "What was that word you used?" She pretended to think, "Friend, again."

Alice narrowed her eyes slightly at the woman in front of her. She always had to imply nasty things or trying to bring Alice down a peg. But the little vampire had no intension of letting her do that. "You know very well that that will never happen." She voice was hard. "The whole reason he left you and never turned back is because he knew he could be better than that. And the reason why he still is not going back is because he found something he could never find with you." Alice paused. "Obviously, you couldn't give him that." She finished, doing as Maria did oh so often. The truth was Jasper had found people who loved and cared for him.

Maria's eyes narrowed at Alice's statement. "Perhaps your right, perhaps I couldn't supply him with the weak emotions he gets from you. The false feelings of safety." Maria's smiled widen slightly. "Perhaps I would go back in time, and not change him. Save him from my self." She tilted her head, "Oooohhhh, tsk tsk. I forgot," She chuckled her ominous sounding chuckle, "With out me, having had him first, you'd never would had, had him at all."

Alice could of lashed out on how wrong Maria was. False sense of security? Weak emotions? One of the main reasons why Jasper and Alice had never parted was because both felt too happy and the feeling a very addictive, mostly for him. But of course, there is love; Maria never could give his the true feeling of being loved, Alice and the Cullens did. "You have no idea how wrong you are," Alice shook her head lightly.
Yes, if it were not for Maria, Alice never would have met Jasper. "That is true, and that is the only good thing that you have ever done for us: transform him. Everything else you have ever done to him, to me... everything else is very typical of you." she could never consider herself being greatful to Maria, she could never say she was really glad she had changed Jasper because of the pain an sufering she put him through afterwards. But, as she said, it was the only good thing Maria had ever done -- the way Alice saw it. "Though, it would be good if he never had to deal with you and what you did to him. Luckly, he no longer has to, not in the same way." Maria no longer controled Jasper, but she never seemed to stop coming back.

Maria gave a chuckle, "Do you really think, had I not done every move I made the game would have ended the same?" Maria asked with a smile. "You do know, that had he been less of my favorite back then, he would have been killed." She paused to think for a half second before tilting her head slightly to the side. "Hmmm. I wonder if you would have seen that coming?" Her chuckle this time, almost vibrated out of her small frame. It amused her to think of the small girl seeing that from hundreds of miles away.

"What game, Maria? This isn't a game! Perhaps since you find that tearing innocent people's lives appart and toying around with them is nothing more than a past time and a way to keep yourself entertained, you call it so, but I really hope that one day you see what you have done to them. I hope you go through the same dreadful things you cause them. And I do not mean rolling around in bed, my dear." Alice hissed in a low volume so others could not hear her as she spat back that the evil woman.
Alice was truely greatful for two thing right then. One: that she was not human, and two: that she was so engulfed in anger and disgust, because she would over been crying were she able to have tears, and sobbing if she weren't angry. She knew that if Maria had... Alice could not bring herself to think it. But had Maria done such to Jasper, Alice would have seen it. And it would probably have caused her pain, to know that the whole reason she kept moving on was... Dead. But she was not going to tell her that she would have seen it. "How can you be so low as to say such things." It was not a question, mostly a remark. "You really do not care about anyone, do you?" [/blockquote]

"Oh, I care about someone," Her self. She thought with a ironic tone. She did what was best for Maria at all time and didn't care who she had to use, kill, play, or have killed in order to do it. "That might be your weakness, I think. You care for others more, and risk to much for them. I don't see them doing the same for you." In Maria's mind, Alice was weak, and Maria didn't like weak vampires.

Of course, Maria only cared for herself. "Besides yourself." Alice corrected with narrowed eyes. What she could not understand was why she even bothered to waste her time talking to this woman. She could be off, doing much better things than this. "You are wrong again, Maria," Alice replied. "Yes, I do care a lot about people. I would do anything for most of them." Especially Jasper, and also her family. "But, if you were to care for someone else the way I care for those people, you would see that they care just as much or more. And they would do the same for me." She finished explaining but went on. "I do things for the ones I hold close because I want them to be happy and safe, and they would do the same for me. Not because they have to, not because they feel as if they owe me, but because they care for and love me; two things you will never truely feel." [/blockquote]

Maria wished the little freak would stop rambling. Still, with everything she said, Maria learned more. Saw weak links in the chains they used to tie them self's to each other. She had found a major one just now. Her lips slowly spread into a smile. She wouldn't think it on it, since the mind reader might be slow but still. . . . Mmmmmm. . . .
"You speak on and on about this love of yours." Maria spoke, "But all I see, if a simple coven. You might think he loves you know but, once upon a time, he thought the same about me. Would have died to just be by my side." Maria would have found that amusing. "Don't flatter your self, little one, into thinking your special."

What Maria did not realize was that Alice had a long time ago made peace with the fact that Jasper and Maria had... and so on. Though, as Jazz had explained, he used to worship the ground this woman walked apon -- she was like God to each 'solder' in her army -- any one of them would of killed anyone or done anything in order to even touch her for a second. Which was pretty pathetic. They all believed they were in love with their creator, but, they never truely were. It was a sad thing; each one of them could of found their true soulmates, were it not for Maria and her rabid killing.
Alice held her chin up a little, "I do not have to think that." She knew that. "There is no way you could even consider yourself so?" [/blockquote]

"Oh but I do think that." Maria said, with a slight chuckle in her voice. "I was the one who created him. I spent years in his life and in his bed. That is not something one just forgets." Jasper Whitlock had been the only one to every 'get away'. There had been that newborn couple that he let get away, and at the time she had only been annoyed. Looking back, she should have killed them. Saved her self the trouble she was having now. "You should thank me, for teaching him what he knows." She was referring to 'bed time' play. "He was my favorite to reward."

Alice was a little bit shocked by Maria's remarks, they were so low and inapropreate... A lot like the woman who said them. Thus, Alice could not be bothered to show any emotion. She persed her lips. "True," Alice started. She knew this was inapropreate and she would never speak like this normally -- speaking with implications that refered to things like 'bed play' -- but it was the only way for her to defeat Maria, somewhat. "Though, tell me this... Why did he leave you? Why am I his wife?" Of course, Alice knew that those answers had nothing to do with it, but Maria could piece together whatever she wanted out of all that. Though, Alice felt really uncomfortable speaking like this, she knew she had to. Alice ignored the last comments Maria made, she was not going to go there.

Maria gave a low chuckle. "Oh that one is easy to explain. When he grew to weak to survive my life style, he went his own way. Jasper, with his perverse need to be controlled, and dominated was drawn to you." Maria smiled down at the littlest vampire. "Why else to do you think a solder of such magnitude, lets a little thing such as your self lead him around. He enjoys that game, dearest." Maria waited for some reaction from Alice, "Both in bed and out." She added on hoping to get something exciting from her. Learning to push people, control them was Maria's favorite pastime.

If it were not for the fact that they were at an event, and in a room full of people, Alice would of surely started a fight. "I do not control him." Alice hissed. Did it really look that way to others? "You did that more than enough. I would never do that to him." Jasper being anything but free to make his own decisions was only something of the past; the past with Maria that is. "He obviously got tired of those games; he left you." Alice pointed out. She was not going to react he way Maria wanted her to, no matter how hard it got. She did not want to react or comment on the next part. First off, she wanted Alice to react to it, and secondly, the subject was not one Alice discused.

Maria wasn't pleased with reminders that Jasper had left her, the after math was still something she was removing from. The scars on her body and on her reputation. . . on her body. Maria got an idea, and her arm raised to touch one fo the few crescent shaped scars that was visible on her. It was on her shoulder, and looked as if someone had bite into it, but not done to much other damage. It could have been a 'love bite' if not for the pain that much have come from it, and the way it blurred slightly to the right. "I think he might miss it sometimes. This scar is not from so long ago. . . You recall my visit to Forks? He could have killed me them, but keep me alive. Now, why would he do such a thing, if his feelings for me were fading?"
Jasper had give her the scar. She had pushed him to far and he attacked, nearly killed her. Could have killed her. He had had her down and with one final move it would have been over, but he froze then. Backed off. Gave in and gave her, her way. Weakness. Maria would have just killed him.

The scar on Maria's shoulder was deep and looked like it had hurt a lot. Good, Alice hoped it had. "The only reason he kept you alive was because he didn't want to become the monster he was before, the one you made him. He has been, and still is, working very hard everyday to be otherwise. On his own choise." Her voice was hard, but what she said was entirely true. "And though I know wish he would have done away with you, I am glad he didn't. I have seen him go through too much to become civil." She was truely proud of her husband. No matter how much she wanted Maria to be gone forever.

"Civil?" Maria gave a soft but still un-lady like snort. "You mean, your ways. . . How you make him eat animals and not what our bodies need? How you play with humans and not use them for food? Oh yes," Maria said, "I can see how that is civil."
She tilted her head to watch Alice, "Tell me, did you roll around in your food as a human? I think if you did, they would have locked you away." Maria didn't know of Alice's past, but if she had, she would have rubbed it in more and chuckled at her joke. As it was, she was unaware of the comment she made.

"If atteining human blood was not so grusom and horrifying-" And painful for Jasper to cope with. "-I am sure we would both still be exercising that diet. But we don't, it's degrading to lower one's self to such a monsterous thing as harming innocent people for food." Blending in and passing unoticed was important, as well.
Alice looked down, her face still hard as it masked what she truely felt. Did Maria know? She didn't think so... How could Maria know? Only the Cullens knew about Alice's human past. She looked back up at the woman before her. "I have no human memories, but I asure you that rolling around in food is something that has never happened."

No human memories? Maria tilted her head and watched the smaller vampire for a moment. Granted, maria recalled very little of her human life. So little in fact that IF she wanted to speak of her weaker days then she could only tell people a few things, the strong memories, of hate and fear. Screaming. . . .
One thing she had not learned in her human life, was to read. Few knew she could not read, and one of them was Jasper, for former general. She knew he had never told a sole of this. Not that Maria ever needed to read. Words bored her. "How beneficial to you, to not recall any of your weaker days as food rather then as rulers." It sounded more mocking then her formor comments, but Maria was aware this might not hurt as her Jasper comments had.

The way Maria tilted her head and looked at her, worried Alice a little. Though, as far as she could tell, the girl was not planning anything. Which was a terrific sign -- a rare one. At Maria's comment, Alice narrowed her eyes a little. "I guess it is," she sneered. Alice was not giving Mariathe satisfaction of having her agree with her, and it was very apparent in her voice that she obviously did not agree -- her voice was hard. "I suppose you remember your lesser, demeaning days as a 'weak' human?" Alice really did not know if Maria remembered her human past or not. Or if her memories of that life time had already faded. Jasper had never told Alice if Maria did; it wasn't something she was very intreeged by and very interested in knowing about Maria.
As Alice had said: she remembered nothing shot being human. That did not mean she did not know what happened generally. She had spent a long time researching her past. Jasper was, as always, sweet enough to help her out. She was glad he had been there with her during that time, some of the things she found out about herself and her family we sad and shocking. He was there to comfort her through that. And his comfort was even more usefull and needed when they had found her grave. It was hard to believe, sometimes, that a man like that could ever have been a blood thirsty killer. (the whole last paragraph is filler XD)

Maria gave a slow amused chuckle. "I could careless about recalling such a weaker life. I know of a few vague things, enough to know that humans are weak. I do not try to recall the rest." Maria gave a roll of her eyes, seeming to connect some dots in her mind as well as jumping to conclusions she didn't know if they were right. She was however fond of taking that risk, of maybe. "You vampires would long for such thoughts however. Of your selves. Really, how sadly backwards of you. You seem to do everything wrong as vampires. . . . Can one even call you that, as you disgrace the name?"
Maria didn't know that the Cullens liked to not call them selves vampires. They they didn't want to be such monsters. To her mind, everyone wanted to be an immortal. Like her. Had she known that they didn't want to be monsters and that she might be slightly complementing them, she would have said something else to annoy the littlest vampire.

What on Earth was Maria implying? What was she even talking about, really, was the better question. Alice had a feeling that it was better of she didn't know. You never knew with Maria. The little vampire looked up at the horrible person before her, her eyebrows meeting at the middle as Maria spoke of the Cullens being backwards. Her expression softened it a blank expression shortly before turning hard like before. "I would rather be backwards, or anything else, than to be someone like you," she didn't think it would really effect Maria, the woman had a heart of stone and no soul to match. "I believe you were destined for this kind of life; the life of a vampire. You are the perfect deffinition of a monster."
The night seemed to grow long, especially while Alice stayed there talking to Maria, it dragged on longer. She wondered where Bella was at, and Rose. Esme, Emmett and Carlisle. Edward and Renesmee. And, of course, her beloved Jasper. She also wondered if there was any way that she could get away from Maria, right now and for eternity. For both, she had no answer for Maria never seemed to leave; she haunted your life, leaving a permanent scar of pure darkness across your being.

Maria gave a faint chuckle, as if Alice's words amused her. "No, I am the perfect immortal." She replied, "If you are going to live forever, why not enjoy your self. . . shall I tell you about a more favored night of mine?" She didn't give Alice a chance to answer, "It was in this little town, we found this young girl, younger then you or I appear to be. I was with one of my . . . coven mates, he was newer but proving to be very promising."
"I wanted to help him with his thirst, so we took this girl and enjoyed our selves. Oh we called it training, but we knew better. We keep her alive while we bleed her, toyed with her." Maria was smiling to her self as the memory came. She moved to circle Alice once, slowly as she spoke. "It lasted for hours. She begged and cried but we were having so much fun, and she was serving a purpose. . . " Coming to a stop, she looked at Alice's eyes. "If you want to know how it all ended, you will have to ask my little pet." Tilting her head to the side she looked around. "Where is Jasper, anyway." She said, hinting it had him with her that night. It had been.

Alice lightly rolled her eyes, of course Maria thought she was the perfect immortal. The woman was so very full of herself... Alice did not want to know about one of Maria's terrible tales, but before she could decline, Maria went ahead with her story. Alice had a terrible feeling about this. Even before she paused to find a different word for one of her toys, Alice knew this had to do with Jasper. It was always about Jasper when Alice spoke with Maria. She had made peace with the fact that Jasper had a dark past since the day she met him, but Maria never helped. Not that Alice would ever think badly of her husband, but she felt horrible about what he was then, and he hated when she had to know the dark details. God, how she would love to walk away from this before the horrible parts came, but what then? Maria would just follow her!
As Maria told her story, and started to circle slowly around her, Alice tried not to let it show how each word shook her to the core. Maria had made her husband a monster. Her sweet, caring and fun-loving husband... Maria came to a full circle and stood before Alice. She did not look up at Maria, afraid her eyes would betray her facade. "I most definately do not want to know what happened, and my husband is not your pet," Alice's voice was flat, but stern. "He is better off where he is than being here. You're the last person he'd want to see right now."
