Bella is caring, serious, shy, and intelligent with a very dry sense of humor that often gets her in trouble. She uses her sarcasm to cover the fact that she is insecure and a terrible liar. Bella is tragically clumsy and is always stumbling over herself. The smell of blood also makes her queasy and light headed.
Bella understands what it means to make sacrifices and often does to make things easier for her friends and family. She is selfless and puts everyones' lives before her own. Whether is conscious or not she find herself drawn to danger and that mixed with her clumsiness often puts her at death's door. Her need to make everyone happy becomes a problem when she finds herself between Edward and Jacob.
Bella loves to read, listen to music, drive her red truck and spend time with her loved once. Sports and athletics have never been one of her suits. She has trouble getting into "girly" activities like primping and shopping but of course makes an attempt when necessary to appease Alice or her human friends. Before meeting Edward and the Cullens, most of her adventure and romance came from her love of books where she easily gets lost. She loves to identify with the heroin and immerse herself in the story. Bella does well in school. She is intelligent and the academic part of school comes easily to her, the social aspect of high school is where she struggles.

Bella was born to the young couple Charlie and Renee Swan in Forks, Washington on September 13th, 1987. The family fell apart when Renee decide small town life was not for her, left Charlie and took Bella with her to Arizona. Her early years were fairly normal, going to school, a year or two of ballet classes and piano classed, nothing too out of the ordinary. She spent a Christmas here or there with her dad in Forks, but saw him rarely. Her mother eventually found the love of her life, Phil, a minor league baseball player and decided to tour with him during Bella's Junior year of high school. In order to not tie her mother down, Bella made the decision to spend the year with her father in Forks. She didn't fit in very well in her school in Phoenix anyway and it was about time she spent some time with Charlie.
Bella arrives in Forks to find she is a local celebrity (or at least her dad has been telling EVERYONE she was coming and all about her). She enrolls in school and finds not only does everyone know who she is, but she is a fascination to girls and boys alike. She had never gotten much attention in Phoenix, but suddenly she find herself to be "fresh meat" and boys seem to be interested in her left and right. Bella does her best to keep her head down the first few days and just "fit in" but when she meets her lab partner, Edward Cullen, things begin to change. At first he is repulsed by her in an almost violent way. He avoids her, even disappears for a few days after trying to switch out of her biology class. But soon they find themselves drawn to each other in the strangest most powerful way.
When Bella finds out about Edward and his family things begin well but start to unravel when a group of nomadic carnivorous vampires come to Forks. After a near death experience that takes them all back to Phoenix, Edward decides Bella does not belong in their world and that he can no longer put her in danger. He disappears, leaving her alone and heartbroken. Her old friend Jacob Black is there to pick up the pieces and help her "come back to life". Bella does everything she can to feel alive again including a stint in motorcycling and cliff diving. After a misinterpretation of one of Alice's visions Edward goes to the Volturi in an attempt to end his life. Bella follows him to Italy and shows up just in time to save him but quickly learns about the inner workings of the Vampire community. When they return to Forks, they are back together and stronger than ever. Bella struggles to find the balance between Edward, the love of her life and Jacob, the one who was there for her when Edward left her. Together they take ok an uprising of newborn vampires and Bella ultimately chooses to stay with Edward.
