"YES Mom, I'll bring it back in one piece." With those words, Paul closed the front door to his house, holding the keys to his mother's horrible car. Rachael and him always argued about which vehicle to take. He wanted to take his motorcycle, where as she wanted to take her tiny, little bug. He hated that car. He still, to this day, did not understand how he could physically fit inside of it. Not to mention how he had managed to stay inside of it when it was covered with stickers and flowers.
He shuddered at the thought. Their disagreement caused him to borrow his mother's car instead. He did not like her car. It was old and not exactly the kind of thing Paul liked to be seen driving in. He looked sadly at his bike as he got into the driver's seat. Poor thing. It was so neglected. He turned the keys in the ignition, and had to do it twice because the darn thing wouldn't start the first time.
When the engine started, he drove the rusty thing over to the Black's residence. He honked and was startled himself at the strange horn that the car had. This thing was a piece of crap, and he would be cursing it all the way to Rachael's apartment.

Did he really pull up the side of the road and honk? Did he not know how rude that was? It said 'I'm to lazy to get out and come get you'. Rachael would have stood there in side the door and waited for him, but if they did not leave five minutes ago, then they would not make it there in time to wash up and rest before a dinner with a few friends Joshua was planning.
Sighing, she walked out with nothing but her purse, and got in the car. She had clothes there. "You remembered to bring an over night bag?" She asked as she leaned over to kiss his cheek." She wasn't sure what kind of car this was meant to be, (the rust covered most the signs of what the makes where), but it had a bench seat, which meant, instead of spending the hours riding shotgun, she could spend them riding tucked into his side. She smiled and slid on over, leaving her purse where she should be sitting, and sat next to him. "Hey you." ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

All agitation he felt over the horrible car vanished when he saw her. He smiled, seeing her get in. Maybe he should have gotten out to open the door for her. Oh well, he would make it up to her later. He put on arm around her when she came closer to him, and kept the other one on the wheel. Who cared if it was illegal. "I did. My stuff is just thrown in the trunk." He didn't need much, just a couple of things to keep him hygienic. He kissed her forehead, since he had not gotten out to give her a proper greeting. "Sorry about the hunk of junk we're riding in. I tried to get a rental, but they were too expensive. You aren't too uncomfortable are you?"

Rachael slid a little closer to make her point, "I think this car is perfect for a road trip." She laughed a little and looked up at him. "I brought a map, but we shouldn't need it. I remember the way." She opened up her purse, which was one of the new age styles that looked more like a beach bag and opened up a plastic container of trail mix. . . . a large container.
"I made you a snack for the road. I got it at a health food store in Port Angeles when I went with Emily, it supposed to help keep you full but energetic. I thought it would help in case you were tired form you last patrol." She was still getting used to the wolf idea, but she liked for him to know she was dealing with it slowly and in her own way, but that she was accepting him for who he was. The complete Paul package. He glanced back and forth between her and the road and was about to comment on the size of her purse . . . when she pulled out some food. She always knew exactly what he needed. Paul was a free spirit when he was a kid, but he loved being looked after by Rachael. He enjoyed the thought and consideration she gave him, and even the simplest things like preparing a meal, made Paul so happy. "You're the best," he said smiling as he rested head on top of hers. He could stay in this position for the rest of his life. But he raised his head, knowing that if he did not pay attention to the road, she would not be happy.
Then . . . he looked at the food. "Alright, while I appreciate the thought . . . what the hell is that?" He asked, even more curious after he heard the words 'health food store'. He made a bit of a face. "Is it supposed to keep me energetic, or be the same as eating air?" Paul was all about the meat and heavy meals . . . this looked like something someone ate when they were dieting. "Are you sure you don't have a steak stashed somewhere in that suitcase of yours?" He teased, going back to his initial thought about making a remark about her very large purse.

She didn't answer about the steak, because she did have something else in her bag for him, (not steak) and held up the container. "It's all natural, Paul." she held it up higher as if to say 'just try it'. It was better then it looked, using natural things and blending flavors. It has some very faint hints of meat, dried meats, in it. Not enough to please him.
She picked up a little bit and put some in her mouth. "Mmmmm" She said as if trying to convince him. Rachael was having fun for the moment. She was worried about her friends and Paul (Mainly the difference between the two, and Paul's temper) and she was VERY worries about Joshua and Paul spending the night under one roof. . . . and to be honest she was worried about spending the night with Paul and having no 'adult' around to use as an excuse not to have things 'Paul's way'. He continued to make a face. "It still doesn't look very appetizing. Do I look like a guy who's worried about my health?" Paul ate as if there was no tomorrow. He could just keeping eating, and eating, and not worry about how unhealthy it was. The moment he stopped phasing, he was going to die from a heart attack because his cholesterol was sky high. "I think we'd be better off just stopping at some fast food place on the way." A double cheeseburger sounded pretty good right now. "How far is this place anyway?"

"It's a four hour drive," She told him, "That is why we stay over night." She picked up some of the mix and held it to his lips. "Just one bite." She coats trying to get him to at lest try it. "It will you stay big and strong." Not that he needed it, She felt small and safe around his huge muscled frame. She wasn't afraid of lions to tigers or bears . . . or vampires. She had never SEEN then up close but Jacob spoke highly of a few of them, and he had imprinted on the half vampire. She had yet to ask Paul to let her go visit the baby vamp. It didn't even smell good! No, that was a lie. It was odorless. He opened his mouth and allowed her to put it inside. He slowly chewed it, and though it wasn't as bad as he thought, he acted as if it was a lot worse. "You sure you don't have any steaks in there?" It was worth another shot. "Cause this stuff wouldn't even fill up a fly." It would not even last him twenty seconds. "What did you say was in this stuff?"

"Food" She answered not wanting to tell him what all WAS in it. When guys heard vitiamans and other big flavorless words they got turned off and just rolled their eyes. She put the lid on with a faint sigh and put it back in the back, "I will give it to Joshua, he would appreciate the goodness." She said mainly to annoy him for not eating healthy, then she pulled a five pound bag of M&Ms out of her back, the ones with nuts in them, and sat it on Paul's lap. She had known this wouldn't go over well. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Like hell! Mr. Joshua was NOT eating his trail mix! "Wait wait, give it to me," he said, digging his hand around her bag and pulling out the box. He opened it, and took a hand full, throwing it into his mouth. Somehow, it was far easier to eat with the knowledge that because he was having it, Mr. Joshua was not. "That guy can get his own girlfriend to make him trail mix," he muttered. He took another handful of it, and after putting it in his mouth, took a few M&Ms and threw those in as well. At least they would add some flavor to the already tasteless snack he was devouring.

Rachael reached over and reclosed the snack he didn't like, "I was joking Paul! You don't have to eat this, eat your M&Ms!" When he made the girlfriend comment, Rachael froze for a moment before putting the mix away. Maybe somewhere along the line, she had 'forgot' to tell Paul that the reason Joshua was an ex-boyfriend is because he had . . . come out. Paul would be more Joshua's type then Rachael would be now. "I'll eat it cause you made it for me. And cause I don't want Mr Joshua enjoying something that you made for me." He was going to kill that man. If he saw him making one move on Rachael, it would be the last attempt of a move he would ever make. He popped some more M & M's into his mouth and chewed them while having a sinister expression while mentally plotting the best way to kill her room mate. It softened however when he spoke to her once again. "How old is he again?" He asked, trying to establish the age difference.

Rachael glared playfully at Paul. "Be nice. He is turning 30 in a month. He is a nice guy, a single Dad who is trying to raise a sweet little girl on his own." Rachael wanted to see Paul with kids. She couldn't wait to see how kids reacted to him when he couldn't escape them. Men could be very cute when nice to kids and Rachael hoped he wouldn't be the exception. Again she wondered if she should tell him about being Joshua's type but didn't want to scare him off before getting there. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

"Jeez. Maybe he should find a place of his own then. Or get re married or something." Not to her of course . . . he just wanted him out of Rachael's life. "What happened to the kids mother anyway?" Maybe Paul would have to re think killing Mr Joshua . . . he did have a kid after all, and he didn't want Rachael to hate him for killing her 'friend'. Yes, he would not commit murder . . . maybe he would just beat him senseless instead.

"The apartment belongs to Joshua, and I have the secondary name on the lease, and Zorra's mother was hit by a drunk driver, and killed." Rachael looked up at Paul, wanting him to get this all out of his system now. "This car is going to be your safe zone, say what you want now Paul, but once we get out PLEASE be on your best manners. Joshua is no threat to you. I love you, Paul. He wouldn't even be 2nd best. He is simply a good friend, who's daughter needs a mother figure while she is struggling with her handicap." Had she hit all the points? Got to his weak point yet? She wasn't sure if she was learning to play Paul with hinting words or not but she guessed she would fin out. "Fine. I'll be nice . . . but just for you. I still don't like the guy, but I love you so I'll be good cause you asked me to." It was so nice to say that finally . . . and to hear her say that to him. It had been his dream for so long. Well, its not like it took them that long. "By the way, I think its sweet that you are helping her. But I still wish he could get a place of his own. I don't want him taking advantage of your compassion or anything."

She smiled, "He dose have a place of his own, I live as a renter from him." She explained again, "So I would be the one who had to look for a new place if it bothers you." She paused, "I can try to look for a place of my own, but I don't have that sort of money right now." She trailed off not wanting to get anymore leading then that. She wasn't going to become sexually active with Paul until he manned up and married her, (And with what she knew about Wolves she knew one day it was coming) but maybe this would let him know she was thinking in that area of 'maybes'. "As long as he knows his boundaries." He did not want to inconvenience Rachael by telling her that he preferred she move out, away from the creep. Now even though she had tried to avoid it, he could not resist the comment. "Well you know, if you're really stuck, we could always get a place together. I guarantee I'll be a better room mate than Mr Joshua there," he told her grinning at the thought of them living together. She may never buy it, but that didn't mean he couldn't think about it. "I wouldn't even charge you half the rent."

AAAAHHHH! Rachael thought in her head and blushed and smiled. Oh to live with Paul!! OH!!! "Paul, you know how I feel about waiting until I am married." She looked down so he wouldn't see the excitement at the idea of living with in her face. She could have her place, with Paul, and not be in her father's home all the time. She could stop by and help some and then leave for her own place. . . .with PAUL. Her high school day dreams had never gotten close to this. ((Icons not of my own making. It had started as just a random comment, but the more Paul thought about it . . . the more appealing it sounded. "And I respect that," he told her truthfully. He was trying to remember if he ever tried to pressure her . . . besides that time in the woods which was just a huge misunderstanding, he couldn't think of another incident. "But you live with Mr Joshua and you don't have sex with the guy." He hoped! While Paul may really enjoy their living arrangements if she was not so determined to wait until they were married . . . that did not mean he still did not want her to live with him. He would get to see her so much more . . . . yes, Paul was now set on this idea. "Think about it. I'm over so much, its almost like we live together already." Sort of. They would just be living together without Jake and Billy around -- which suited Paul just fine.

Did he really want this? She looked up at him, and mashed her lips as if holding back a smile. He seemed excited. Then the thought accrued to her that, he would want--expect--the place to be in La Push. Which meant she would have to give up her city apartment. Give up her one excuse for leaving La Push one weekend a month, or so to enjoy the aspects of something besides small town America.
She would be stuck in La Push.
Forever.
. . . . with a werewolf.
. . . . . . . . with her werewolf. While her smile was not as bright as it was a moment ago, she still smiled up at him. "So, should we plan on starting to pack some of my things while up here, and looking for a place when we get back?" ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Paul waited in the silence for her response. He was fully prepared to further convince her, and so when she agreed so easily, he was surprised. Surprised but delighted . . . no . . . ecstatic! She had just agreed to move in with him! This was truly amazing. He took his eyes off the road to look at her with a massive smile on his face. "I love you," he said excitedly as he quickly kissed her, knowing that he could not take his eyes off the road for too long. While he may have accelerated healing, she did not and he would never want to do anything to endanger her life. He wasn't going to ask if she was sure to cause any doubt. "I can't wait until we get back now. I'm sure it'll be easy to find a place. I can get more shifts at work, so we'll be able to afford it . . . a nice place. Not one of those crappy one bedroom apartments." She was going to want a two bedroom one . . . for now.

Rachael smiled, but then thought of what she was asking from him. He spend how many hours a night running around La Push protecting it, and she was all but demanding he work more and more to give her the nice life she wanted. "You don't have to do that Paul." She said, "It's time I look for a real job anyway. Maybe La Push needs--" She broke off seeming to have trouble getting it out, "--a teacher at the high school." For a school who dreamed of big city and big life, it was hard to comment to a small town. Not so hard to commit to Paul. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

His smile widened -- if that was even possible -- when he heard her say that maybe the school was looking for a teacher. It would give him such a peace of mind if she was working in La Push, because knowing her, she would stay dedicated to that job and Paul would not have to worry as much about losing her. "Its okay Ray. I can handle it. I just want you to be happy because you've made me the happiest I have ever been." Depending on what sort of place they found, he would crunch some numbers and see if working both jobs would allow them to afford it. If not, he was not shy asking Ray to help -- since she was going to work anyway -- he just did not want that as their first option.
"What school wouldn't want a teacher like you. They would be lucky to have you. Maybe we can even find a place near the school so it'll be more convenient for you." La Push was not that big, most places were in walking distance of each other, but still . . . he wanted her to be totally comfortable with the fact . . . they were moving in together!

"La Push isn't that big, I am sure everywhere is near the school." She teased him not meaning it bitter at all. She didn't want him working two jobs however, "I really rather you not work over time Paul. Just, do your. . . . nightly rounds, and your normal part time gigs. We will be fine. Trust me. I used to work at a great little place near girl and the usual customers tipped really big. I didn't drive anywhere, I walked, and Joshua let me rent for real cheap in exchange for working with his daughter. I have allot saved up." ((Icons not of my own making. Pfft. There was the mention of Mr Joshua again. Paul would never admit that he did anything good for Rachael . . . he would still forever despise a man he did not even meet. He knew enough about him to hate his guts. "Its alright Ray. Remember what I told you once, that I would take care of you, and that's exactly what I'm going to do." He was too excited to worry about how they were going to pay the rent. He could handle two jobs, and his wolf patrolling. There were enough guys in the pack that if he needed a night off, he could get one . . . he hoped. "What kind of place do you want?" He asked smiling, not wanting to think of the struggles or technicalities that would make this new living situation difficult to achieve.

"When my mother dies, her life insurance was put in a trust for her children. It's not much but, maybe we can buy a little land and just build a small two bed room house." Grants and things had paid for school, so she was debt free unlike most college students. She also have savings. "Maybe some place out side of town, I don't mind driving to work and it will make keeping your nightly . . . errands . . . discreet." That would be nice, a place of there own. Litterly. No one else would have lived there an she could make it how she wanted, not how the town of La Push shaped their square standered houses. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

"If we need it, I'll let you know Ray . . . but please let me make good on my promise." He wanted to be able to prove that he could provide for her so that one day when they got married, she would have confidence in him and know that he would be able to care for them and their potential children. Children? Did Paul Moran just think of children? He quickly pushed those thoughts out of his mind. Imprinting really made you plan the whole white picket fence thing out. "Hey! I can build us a place." Perfect! "I've worked construction long enough, we can get the other guys to help us too. That way, we don't have to worry about explaining it to some bozo who is bound to screw it up." He wanted to make it everything that Rachael wanted. Maybe one day . . . it would be their permanent residence, and they would be more than just room mates in it.
"I like the idea of it being outside of down," he said grinning, loving how their plans were developing. "It'll give us some privacy. As long as you're sure you don't mind being a bit further from the school."
