Jasper had been traveling back from meeting with his two dear friends Peter and Charlotte. Though it would not be as risky with Bella no longer being human, he still thought it best to meet them rather than invite them to Forks. Besides, Rosalie was planning another wedding which was part of the reason Alice was not accompanying him. Jasper was also staying clear of part of the planning, though knew that upon his return, his involvement was inevitable. The only thing tempting his back was Alice, for he was not used to being without her for extended periods of time, and so he planned to move quickly back to Forks. Unfortunately, his plans were hindered.
As he was traveling through a city, a scent filled the air. It was a smell that Jasper had been spending years trying to avoid, but it would never cease to attract him and tempt him towards the source. It was the smell of human blood. Yes, the city was surrounded with humans, but this smell was far stronger . . . the blood was exposed and he felt his eyes darkening as the smell grew stronger and began to consume his scenes. He knew that following it would not be the wisest decision, and he was fully planning on fighting with all his strength to just move forward . . . but there was something else that caught his attention. Another smell, a familiar yet unfamiliar one. That was when he stopped, and stood there for a few moments.
Vampire. There was a vampire in the area. Now Jasper was not the overly social type, but his curiousity was getting the better of him. He sensed that something more was going on . . . for the smell was so close to the city, and the vampire was perhaps even closer. Going against better judgment -- and perhaps influenced by the strong smell of human blood -- Jasper followed both smells. It did not take long for him to come across the body. He looked at it. Whichever vampire had killed it, did so in an unnecessarily aggressive way. It looked as if the vampire had no control . . . the body was massacred and that led to only one possibility: newborn.

Do they ever change? thought Cassidy as she walked after a fleeing figure. Behind her was the brutally broken body of a man. The mother and little girl were shut in the house; terrified. Cassidy inhaled deeply, loving the smell of her meal. It was sunset, and the air had taken on an almost blood-like color. The atmosphere was perfect here. Red clay kicked up as a teenaged boy ran like hell for the house. The lonely house in the middle of no where. "Poor boy," said Cass sarcastically. Then she picked up speed and then ran for the boy. Grabbing his wrist, she yanked him to her and stopped. His eyes; perfect blue orbs of terror and hate, stared at her. The admiration in them was evident, and it made the young vampire smile. His brown hair was everywhere from the wind, and he was actually pretty cute. Grasping his face in her hands, Cassidy spoke slowly and seductively.
"Listen sweety. I'm sorry. I'm not going to hurt you." Her eyes flashed to the house, then back to the boy. Smiling sweetly, Cassidy pecked the boy on the cheek, then twisted his head quickly. There was a sickening crack and the boy fell limp. "OH, I'm sorry. I lied." Sweeping his hair away from his twisted neck, Cassidy tisked. She hadn't meant to mess up his neck, but she had gotten carried away in the kill. Running her index finger slowly across his tan neck, Cassidy's eyes lost control and sanity, and she decended to his neck. The next few minutes consisted only of her sucking his body dry. When she was done, the boy's body dropped grossly from her mouth and to the ground. She smiled towards the house, hearing the gasps and sobs from the mother whom had probably watched the scene from a crack in the door or window.
It was then Cassidy noticed a newcomer from behind. Well this is different, thought the girl. It had been a while since she'd come across a vampire besides herself. Deciding to ignore him, Cassidy took a step towards the house and sang, "Come out, come out, where ever you are!" Red eyes glinting with fresh blood surveyed the door. The humans had locked it. Pfft. Smiling still, Cass pushed opened the door, breaking the wood with a soft creak. Looking around, she sighed. They were upstairs. Instead of playing hide-and-seek, like she usually did, Cassidy snatched up the nearest thing. A red scarf draped on the back of a wooden rocking chair. Turning around to face the door she had entered through, Cass closed her eyes and began to play with the scarf; turning it around between her fingers.
Completely swept up in the playful, slow hunt, Cassidy had forgotten about the newcomer. Slowly, she opened her eyes; which were detached. The crimson color of her irises darkened to black, then lightened to a bright purple. Her body became still and a light breeze swept in through the door and blew her hair silently around her. In her mind, Cass saw a red haired mother clutching her young blonde daughter. They were in the master bedroom, hiding in the closet. The door was again locked. Slowly the color of the scene sank away and then the scene went black. Cassidy swayed slightly before she clutched onto the rocking chair.
She stared blindly at the floor while her eyes darked to black again. This time they did not go to red, but instead a crazed expression crossed her face. Straightening her body, Cassidy brushed her hair behind her ear and turned to head upstairs. Snack time.

Jasper was following the smell vigerously. It was perhaps not the best idea for his temptation would be great when there was a human near by . . . especially a human whose blood was spilled. So why was he following? Instinct? Or perhaps the smell of the blood was too strong for him, and it was drawing him towards it. It was as if he were in a trance. There was no one here to stop him . . . no one to remind him . . . no Alice to encourage him, and tell him that he could do this. She was not here to calm him down . . . this was the ultimate test, and so far, Jasper was failing but simply ignoring the scent and moving on.
It led him to a house, which he immediately entered to see a young vampire ascend up the stairs. Jasper was not trying to be a hero by saving whatever humans were in the house. He just knew that right now, if she killed them . . . he would not be able to hold himself back. "Excuse me," he said politely, forcing a calm, polite tone as he could feel his feet trying to race ahead of her so that he could get the first bite. But instead, he planted them firmly on the ground, and just watched her gravitate upstairs. If she was a newborn, he would not be able to stop her . . . unless he killed her, but even that was not worth it to save a few humans . . . or was it? No. It was not. Jasper was conflicted. So he just stood there, watching her as she was half way up the stairs, waiting for her response.
