-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There was nothing exceptionally special about today . . . or so Paul Moran thought. Then again, the life of a wolf was anything but ordinary. It had not been too long since he had first phased, and his emotions were a mess about it. He seldom thought back to those days when he had first transformed, because it was one of the first times in his life that he was genuinely afraid. No. Never again. Paul not had a handle on things -- to a certain extent. His temper was no secret to the pack, and he often phased, probably more frequently than any of the others because of how easy it was to enrage him. Any little thing would push him over the edge and while his pack mates were annoyed with it, Paul didn't care enough to try and change who he was, even if it was trying to change himself for the better.
Today, all wolf things were pushed aside, and they were all on the beach to enjoy the sun and the waves. He made his way to the water, holding a surf board under his arm, and clad solely in swimming trunks. As he slowly stepped into the water, the coolness of it was a huge contrast to the high temperature of his body, so it was a rather refreshing feeling. "Yo idiot, try not to drown yourself!" He yelled at one of the guys as he saw him fall off his surf board. Paul chuckled, shaking his head and cursing the moron, as he began to run into the water, eager to allow the surfing adventures to begin.

Hello . . . . Hi . . . . hey girls! . . . . Hiya ladies?
Rachael Black groaned and leaned forward of her head hit the steering wheel of her car. She had been working out opening lines in her head but had yet to even decide on how to start. She did not want everyone to think she was still the same old shy girl who left town. They would talk about her sister, who went to Hawaii and got married! How did one sound cool when your sister is living in Hawaii.
she had been in town three days, and was here to get out of the house. She wasn't sure how much longer she would . . . could stay. She was here to help Jacob but so far could not reach out to him.
With a sigh, Rachael got out of the little blue car and went to the truck to get out the food she had promised some of the girls she would bring. Mostly snack foods. Walking to the beach Rachael gave a small wave to a girl she knew, and walked over that way. Here it was, now or never. . . "Hi-eeyyllloooo." Great. Just great. Now she sounded moronic. Paul heard another car approach though he paid little attention to it. He didn't even care enough to look long enough to see who it was. He didn't even recognize the blue bug . . . which would have struck some curiousity in him, had he not been preoccupied with showing off. "This is how its done idiot," he said to one of the guys as he got on his board, caught a wave and managed to balance himself. Of course, he was no expert, but most everyone had minimal skills as it was one of their favorite pass times during such warm weather. Though, now with high body temperatures, they didn't need warm weather to be able to surf . . . it was acceptable no matter how high or low the temperature was.
He hopped off his board, suddenly feeling distracted. The only other thing that could grasp his attention was his hunger, which seemed to be a constant distraction to him. He tucked the board under one arm until he was on the sand when he just chucked it. He then grabbed a towel and began to wipe his face ruffle his hair a bit to dry it before merely placing it around his neck. He could see a few of the girls gathered together, and knew that the food could not be far. He began to make his way towards them, taking one end of the towel to brush away the water from his eyes.
[its short, just building it up a bit ]

Rachael sat the basket down next to some of the girls and wondered what to do next. The old Rachael would have waited until one of the girls told her where to put the food and such, but what should she do now? "Is here fine?" She asked one of the girls, Amy she thought her name was. Actuality, she knew her name was Amy. Amy had been one of the more popular girls in school. At Amy's nod / shrug, Rachael started unpacking the food. She looked up for a moment and paused at the sight of none other the Paul Moran.
He was surfing, and laughing and being his normal self. At lest normal self from a few years back when Rachael knew him. She could almost make out something on his arm. A tattoo?! Rachael had known Paul would turn out to be the bad boy of La Push but tattoos? Wow. He still looked like an adventure, like sun, but there was something new abut him. He was bigger then before. Stronger looking. Maybe taller?! It was hard to tell from this far away if he was really taller, though he looked taller then she recalled. He had filled out. Heart breaker. That was a good word for Paul Moran.
Rachael's attention was pulled away when she heard a slightly deep voice say her name. She looked over and slightly with a smile. "Max?"Amy saw Paul get out of the water and thought she would make her move now. Every girl wanted Paul's attention and she might as well get her Paul-Time in now before the others noticed he was walking this way. "Hey there good lookin'!" She giggled out as she walked closer. "The food got here, I thought I would tell you first. I know you have a strong . . . apatite."[/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Paul's attention was diverted to a feminine voice calling him good looking. Now why wouldn't he give his full attention to someone like that? When he saw who it was, he smiled. What was her name again? Amy? Carrie? Something like that. Oh well, all that mattered was that she was hot and Paul, being the typical guy he was, knew he had to have a conversation with her. "You know it," he said winking at her. "How you doin'?" He asked, clearly checking her out so that she knew that she had his attention -- for the time being anyway -- but he had a feeling this was going to soon lead to a date.
Max had been watching her since the moment she had gotten out of the car. But not in a creepy stalkery way . . . more like in a shy, I-don't-know-how-to-say-hi-to-her way. But eventually, he mustered the courage. Adjusting his glasses he slowly walked up to her and said 'Hi'. Well, she wasn't looking at him, but now she was! AND, she remembered his name! Oh joy! They had been friends in high school, and Max had always admired her. She was so much smarter, more so than most people who were a year older than him, but he knew he could be himself with her for she was one of the few people that never made fun of him. "Um . . . h-hi. How are you? When did you get back?" He was still shy, and was stuttering a bit . . . he didn't know how to talk to a woman, let alone Rachael Black.

"Just fine now that your here." Amy giggled at his wink, and moved a bit closer. "I was just thinking that maybe if today's sandwiches don't fill you up, we could go to the local dinner tonight and get some cheeseburgers? It would be a date, that ends with deserts at my place. My Dad is out of town." Amy's parents were split up so the house would be empty. Just the town of them! Rachael gave a smile up to him, and then stood up all the way. He was only a half inch taller then her, and about a year or so younger, maybe two, but she didn't think he was that far behind her. Max was just as shy as her, so it was a bit easier to be relaxed with him. It wasn't like when she was around Rebecca's friends or even Paul, where she felt every moment she was lacking in some way. "I just came a few days ago. I came to check on the family." She gave a shrug not wanting to go into detail over Jacob's teenage troubles, thought she was willing to bet that in this small town everyone knew.
When the wind picked up for a moment she turned her head away from him and happened to glance over at Paul and Amy. She was surprised she could still feel jealous, even after convening her self that she had 'moved on' from her teenage crush. "I am surprised to see you here," She said looking back at him and trying to pull her hair out of her face, even as the wind swirled it around. After a few moments it died down and she was able to pull her long hair back out of her face. She wondered how awkward she looked doing that, maybe she should bit the bullet and just cut it short? Dayum! That was easy! Paul wondered why he hadn't talked to Amy sooner. Sure, he had noticed her . . . but why hadn't they done this sort of thing earlier; could have made up for a lot of lost time had he just talked to her sooner. The two of them . . . alone . . . in her house . . . yes. Definitely something Paul was going to go for. When she moved closer, he did the same, lowering his head a little so that they were on a bit of a more level line of sight, though the height difference was still rather significant. "I got a feeling that dessert is gonna be more satisfying than dinner . . . but you're right, I gotta build up an appetite and what good would I be if I didn't have any energy." He meant that in the perviest way a person could take it.
"Pick you up around 7?" He was going to have to wash his bike. He always loved to show it off when he could, and because of all the patrolling her had been doing . . . he didn't have much opportunity to use it. But now, the opportunity presented itself in the best way possible. "Well, actually . . . I heard you might be stopping by," he admitted, incredibly shyly, as he looked down at the ground lightly kicking the sand, an action of bashfulness. "You look great by the way," he added, knowing he had to include that because . . . well, because it was true! "La Push hasn't been the same without you." She was someone he had really missed, especially since he wasn't exactly the kind of guy who often got the attention of women. He could feel his whole face going red, and being a mix, his skin was a bit lighter than most of the residents in La Push. He knew that now was his opportunity . . . it was now or never and he didn't want to spend the rest of his life with regret. "I was wondering um . . . if you're maybe . . . um . . . if you're free . . . possibly tonight . . . maybe we could um . . . uh . . . well . . . maybe . . . " That was as far as he could get.

"Oh I will make sure it is." She giggled out, loving having Paul's attention. "Makes sure not to fill up on the snacks Jake's sister brought. Your going to want to be hungry tonight." She winked again but it looked more like batting her eyes then a real wink. "You should plan to spend the whole night at my place. I know you spend allot of time with your home boys, but I don't like to share. Besides, I can keep you busy for a few hours." "Oh." Rachael felt her self blush and she looked down at the sand. "I think that would be fun. Maybe we can get out of La Push for a few hours?" She asked, seeming knowing what he was asking but she wasn't going to make this a date. "It would be fun to spend some time with an old friend." She didn't want tired to La Push, she wanted to find out what was wrong with her family, maybe even ask Jacob to move to the city with her, or even her Dad too, and then get out of here. In the city they boys could get a place and she could just visit often. Making sure they were ok, but not trapping her self at home either.
"Here," She turned around and bent down pulling out a bag of chips, "Have a snack." She was using the chips as a topic change, so that way he would not push for a date date rather then a friend thing. She went to open the bag but it was a bit harder then she planned and with her being flushed already she pulled to hard. The bag ripped in half and chips went everywhere! A few of the girls around her laughed and Rachael knew her face was as red as could be, looking up at Max she gave a shrug. "Never mind." Don't cry, don't cry. don't cry.[/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

If he didn't have to possibly patrol, then he would have definitely taken her up on that offer. Of course, he wasn't going to say that he couldn't spend the night . . . he was going to see how far things went. Sometimes girl tended to back down at the last second, so he would have to see. "Good to know. I doubt we'll be bored at all," he said suggestively. "And you can be as selfish as you want . . . the guys are cool, but they can't entertain me in ways that I know you can."
Max was ecstatic when she agreed to meet him for dinner! He did recognize she used the word 'friends' but it was just the fact that she had agreed that made him feel so happy, especially since he had massive insecurities about himself it made him feel so much better (especially since he couldn't even complete his sentence). "That sounds great!" He said, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. "There's a really nice sushi place in Port Angeles . . . maybe we could go there?" Max didn't care where they went. "Only if you want to though . . . if you like something better, we can go there instead. I really don't mind." He didn't want her to feel forced.
Seeing her drop all of the chips made him feel horrible, and made him wish that he was one of those tough guys who could protect his girl -- not that Rachael was his girl -- but even defending her as a friend would have been good enough. But he was too shy and too much if a wimp, and he hated that. "Oh, thats alright!" He quickly said, collecting a few of the chips and gathering them together. He didn't like litter, so picked up as much as he could. "Maybe we can invent a new flavor. I mean, if they have things flavors like lobster and mayonnaise out there, why not a sand flavored kind." Max was a dork, but he was still trying to cheer her up.

"Perfect!" Amy said, and then giggled again. "Pick me up at six." She said even thought he had said seven a moment ago. She would make him wait too, at lest half an hour while she got ready. That was men job's after all. Waiting on the girls. She would make it worth his time, but she was going to make him work for it too. Amy leaned in and lightly kissed Paul's lips, "Your all wet!" She complained as she backed off some. The swimwear was more for looks on her, rather then use. Rachael felt so nervous that at this words she could not hold in the laughter. She felt a little more confidant in that moment, knowing that at lest one person wasn't thinking her a total klutz. She looked up just in time to see Amy and Paul's kiss before looking down at the mess. Rachael began picking up the chips, she heard some laughter a bit further down the beach. Looking back at the sound she felt her mouth drop in shock. "Is that Kim with Jared?!" She asked. Kim was a little younger then her, but they had worked on a few class projects together. Both of them were shy, but Rachael had learned of Kim's crush on Jared. Jared had been on the 'group'. The popular one. Rachael felt happy for Kim and jealous at the same time. "She looks so happy with him. I didn't know they had become a couple." Watching them, Rachael felt in awe at how Jared looked at Kim. You could just tell how he felt in a glance. "Wow." She whispered out.[/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Six! Perfect. The sooner the better. He would have to check with the guys to see who was going to be making rounds tonight cause he sure as hell couldn't . . . he had a date, and this was one that he definitely wasn't going to break. "I like that. The sooner the better," he said speaking aloud his thoughts. He was pleasantly surprised by the kiss, but he took it as encouragement to their flirtatious exchanges. "Yeah . . . and you're too dry," he said as he took a step towards her so that he picked her up, wrapping his arms around her waist and spinning her around in a circle.
Max was so excited! He would need to find the appropriate tie to wear tonight. He was so caught up in this thoughts, that he almost didn't hear Rachael's comments. His glance followed hers and saw Jared and Kim. "Oh! Yeah, they are. They just recently got together. It happened pretty randomly actually . . . he just asked her out, and they've literally been inseparable." He hoped he and Rachael would be one of those couples. They looked happy, and Max knew that there was no one more perfect than her. "I guess they do . . . it seems to be an infectious thing around here, because more and more people are becoming couples." Well, sort of. Max wanted to talk about tonight. "So what time is good for you?"

Amy let out a displease and pleased yell. She didn't want to be all wet but Paul's body heat was drying the water fast. What had he been doing to make him so hot? Running a million miles?! "STOP!" She giggled, once he put her down and held on to him for balance. That happened randomly? No, imposable. Jared must have had a crush on her as well or something. Kim was luc-- Rachael turned back around as she heard a yell and then looked quickly down to the ground as Max was asking her about tonight. Everyone here seemed to love life, why could she not? Rachael thought of her sister, and mother. Even here in her home town, standing next to a great guy who was asking her out she felt lonely. She didn't feel as if she belonged. "Do you want to go early?" She asked, trying to sound excited then she didn't. She looked up at Max and felt her self smile some. Making eye contact was hard for her but it often helped her feel more confidant. Like now. Max was a sweet guy. "Maybe five or six, since we have a long drive? We can always hang out there some before heading home. I have a car if you want to take mine. Gas friendly." [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Paul grinned, liking that she liked it. Of course, why wouldn't she? With the way she had been carrying on the conversation, she was one of those chicks who liked attention, and Paul had no complaints giving it to her. "Alright, so I'll pick you up at 6 then . . . you don't mind motorcycles do you?" He was really just trying to show off the fact that he had one. Apparently, he couldn't wait until she saw it. He just wanted to impress her before hand. "Maybe we can take a ride to Port Angeles or something." Again, he was just trying to show off. Max was too excited to notice that she was barley paying any attention to him. He didn't care. They were having dinner tonight! "Sure, early is a great idea." They were going hang out! EVEN BETTER! Max tried to control all of his excitement. "That sounds great Rachael! I really did miss having you around here, I have a feeling we have a lot of catching up to do," he said smiling. Even if he did like her, she was still a friend and so there was no suggestive underlying meaning to what he was saying. He was far too polite to make those kinds of comments. "If you do not mind giving me a ride . . . I don't um, have a car." He was a little embarrassed to admit it since he knew that women liked cars, but then again, she had not said this was a date, so perhaps there were no expectations in that sense. "I love your car. It is so petite and very environmentally friendly. It caught my eye when you were driving it up here." She had caught his eye more, but still . . . he did not want to be too forward.

"That sounds fun! I would love to ride your . . . bike." She giggled at her own joke, and flipped hair back. "I can just huggles right up to you as you drive me anywhere you want to take me, Paulie." She giggled again at her play on his name. She was so funny, no wonder Paul liked her so much! "Great, that works." Rachael said with a smile. She pulled out some ham squares and offered some to Max. They made a nice (but fattening) snack. After a moment she worked up the courage to offer the girl on the other side of her some. The girl winkled her noise and came back with the retort 'I don't want to gain weight off of that crap'. Rachael felt her self blush, and decides this was a bad idea. "I am going to go home," She told Max, "You can come if you want." She stood up, deciding to leave the basket and went to walk to her car.
However, the sand shifted under her and she ended up stepping in the basket and not over it and falling to the ground. Rachael could hear a few of the girls laughing around her and felt her face flame! Oh no! He knew she would cry or die of embarrassment! Rachael pushed off the ground and stood up, and like she was drawn to do, glanced in Paul's direction. Seeing him finally looking her way she knew the day could not get worse! He had seen her fall down like a chubby idiot! 'Smooth Rebecca!' Rachael looked away from Paul and down at the girl. "Rachael." And then she turned and walked quickly to her car, waited for Max to join her and left. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Did she just say huggles? And call him Paulie? Paul didn't make a disgusted face though he wasn't sure he liked those two words. He just smiled, sucking it up and knowing that they wouldn't be doing much talking later. "Cool," he said, trying to sound all chill. "I'll come by and get you later then." He then heard another fit of giggles and this time, his attention was diverted to the source. Little did he know just how much of an impact looking at her would have, for when he did, everything else seemed to stop. He looked at her, and it no longer became a casual glance. He couldn't tear his eyes away. She was beautiful! She looked like she was the center of everything in this world, and nothing else seemed to exist. There was like some force pulling him towards her, and yet, he couldn't move . . . all he could do was stare.
He had never felt this way before, and he had never even talked to the woman. Maybe in high school, but it wasn't a conversation that really stood out in his mind. He knew who she was, who she was related to, and yet right now, none of that seemed to matter. All he wanted to do was go over and talk to her, or just stare at her . . . just look at someone who was the epitome of perfection. How could he feel that way about someone? What was so different about her? Should he question it, or just embrace it? Unfortunately, he didn't have that much time for she was leaving the beach. He didn't even know what had happened for her to leave in such a rush, he just hated to see her go, and knew that he would have to follow.
That was when he saw that little dweeb with her. Mark or something like that. All Paul knew was that he was going to have a little conversation with him later to see where they were going. And if he didn't tell him . . . Paul was going to kill him.
Max eagerly took one of the desserts she made, already biting into it when she tripped over her basket. Max wanted to offer his hand to help her up, but she seemed to quickly get up and hurriedly leave. He rushed after her. "If you could just drop me off at home, so that I can get ready before tonight . . . if you don't mind." He paused. "These squares are delicious by the way." He added, not sure if that would make her feel any better.

"See you then lover boy!" She giggled out, and then turned to see what was so funny. Amy her self even laughed and then hurried over to join the girls to find out what had happened. Rachael said nothing the whole drive home other then "Thank you." to his comment, and "See you later, Max." When she dropped him off. She was embarrassed and just wanted to home. Not the house in La Push but school home. She almost called Max a few times to tell him she had to go back, and cancel their plans. If it had not been for Jacob, and his disappearance last night, Rachael would have left. She didn't want to be here, and she didn't want to face the people on the beach again.
When 5:30 rolled around, Rachael was dressed and ready. She hoped a break from La Push would get her mind right. Tonight when Jacob would slip out of the house, she would follow him. She just needed to work up the courage to do so. Maybe then she could solve the mystery and get out of here. [/blockquote] 5:55PM ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))
Paul watched as Rachael left with the dork. He sort of knew where he lived. Or if he didn't, he would just follow them on his bike . . . which is exactly what Paul did. He kept a distance though, so that she would know he was not following . . . he hoped the weasel knew though, and he hoped he got scared and uneasy about it. When Paul was sure that Rachael left, he parked his bike and hopped off, going up to the dweeb before he made it into his house. Paul then did his thing; he bullied the kid. He intimidated him. He threatened him. The usual. It didn't take long to get out the information he wanted from him; the location of where they were going. Satisfied, Paul gave one last glare to the loser, and headed home.
He had almost forgotten to pick up Amy. The only woman that held his thoughts now was Rachael. It was a good thing he wasn't on patrol tonight . . . he needed to figure this out before everyone started making fun of the situation for it would be taken out of context and look like Rachael ditched Paul for a loser like Max. When he got to Amy's house, he was impatient, but he couldn't show up to the restaurant by himself . . . he was trying to be a tad more subtle than that. Okay, not really. He just didn't want to show up at a restaurant alone; it would make him look like a loner. He waited outside her house, not wanting to go through all the effort of turning his bike off, getting off, going to her door, waiting for her, going back, turning the bike back on, and heading out. So he just waited . . . wanting her to hurry it up.
Finally! It was time, and Max was super excited about this. Who knows what the future had in store for them. He would forever see this as a date, even if no one else did. He was so excited, he almost forgot about his little confrontation with the over-sized bully, Paul. Oh well. Max had a date tonight and no one, not even someone like Paul Moran, was going to ruin this for him! He was so eager, he was ready by five, waiting by the door for her to pick him up.

Amy saw Paul sitting out there but she was SOOO not going out to meet him. if he wanted to pick up the package he was going to have to come to the door and get it. She was watching him from her window, and tapping her foot very annoyingly. Rachael had been looking forward to this all day. She had dressed up in a dress casual outfit, so that way she was not over dress but looked nice for their outing. She had braided her hair in dual braids on the side of her head, before leaving the house.
Her car was not big but it was gas friendly. getting in she turned on the heat and then drove down into the main part of the small town, before turning down the street Max lived on. She noticed while driving that there was Paul on his bike waiting for Amy. She tried not to stare as she drove by. She wished she had left her hair down so she could use it to hide her face.
she drove on and then got to Max's house a few mins later. She got out and walked up to the door to let him know she was here, and ready to go. "Max?" [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))
