Rachael Lana Black was worried. Well, not worried but nervous. Today, her boyfriend (Boyfriend was really the wrong word, when talking about Paul) was coming over to eat supper and hang out with her family. Her father had used the excuse of going over to Sue Clearwaters' to avoid tonight. Rachael wanted to be mad, but she couldn't ever be mad at him. She still felt guilty.
Rachael had left town, after getting out of high school and not returned for even a visit until Chief Swan had called her and told her Jacob, her baby brother, was missing. By the time Rachael had gotten into town he was back, but she stayed to try to find out why he had left. She hated being home, the memories of her mother and her unHappy high school years made being home painful.
In the end, Paul changed her. The larger then life boy she had a crush on in high school (and she had even watch as Paul took her twin the the prom) had started showing a strong attention to her. He made her laugh and relax and enjoy being him. Rachael was still unsure about everything, but she was starting to wonder if she wanted to go back to the city or stay here.
She wanted to stay, enjoy bring with Paul for however long this lasted and she wanted to try to find out what was going on with Jacob. He had been missing and she was worried for him. Some had told her his heart was broken, something about Bella Swan but no one said allot. A teenaged love triangle, or something. He also keep 'disappearing' at odd times and coming home tired. Sometimes Paul did it as well. They held secrets, and she wanted to know them, help them be happy.
Rachael was sitting on the couch, lost in though when she noticed that the hour was getting late. She better start cooking before Paul got here. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Jake had spent another long night out running, but he was not tired for some reason, instead he was hungry. It was then he realized he had not eaten for a couple of hours, and for a wolf that was a bad bad thing. He knew if he went over to the Cullen's Esme would feed him, but then it would also burn his nose, so he decided to wait to see his Renesmee. He would go over there later tonight. Plus he really should spend some time with his sister. He loved her, and knew that it was possible she could just get up and leave at any moment.. Sometimes he was glad he did not have that many memories of mom.
The smell hit him before anything, Rach was cooking. He busted threw the door in just his cut-off shorts and sprinted toward his sister. He reached around her waist and hoisted her into the air, her back to him. "That smells amazing sis!" All the wolves would become extremely grateful the minute food was involved. He set his sister back down and looked at her because a whiff of something had caught his attention, he studied her for a moment and put two and two together, she was nervous, but why?
He stepped back and his expression dropped a little, "Am I missing something? Your not leaving again... are you?" That was the first thing to cross his mind, and of course he was so focused on his sister that it took him double the time to register another scent that was approaching his door step, but why would he...?

Paul was very much looking forward to today. He had found the love of his life, and she justed happened to be the sister of someone he loved to annoy, and now had the power to annoy. Paul was going to have as much fun with this as possible. Jake didn't like him, and Paul didn't really like anyone. The two of them often got in fights about useless things, and now . . . Paul had a whole new kind of ammo. Of course, his affection for Rachael was not solely based on the opportunity it gave him to bug the hell out of Jacob. His love for her was absolutely genuine. Paul just couldn't show his more sensitive side when the guys were around, and did his best to suppress it whenever he phased. He knew he was going to spend the rest of his life with Rachael; he just needed her to know that too.
He walked up the steps, and knocked on the door. Normally, he would have gone right ahead and entered, but today, he was going to be extra nice . . . and extra romantic. He was holding a bouquet of flowers, waiting for Rachael to open the door. He wanted her to be the first one he saw, but hey, if Jake opened it, Paul couldn't really complain either.

Rachael felt a wave of guilt hit her at Jake's question. "Oh, it's just the sauce your smelling right now, I am still wrapping the chicken in bacon; then it has to bake for a bit longer. It all should be ready in half an hour." Rachael told him, but didn't look away. She wanted to promise him that she would never him but part of her knew she might. In high school she had been sad, and alone, and when she was at home, Rachael had taken on the mother role. It had been two much for her, and she felt better when she left. Now however, when faces with Jacob's recent run away, and Paul's recent behavior, she felt in no real hurry to leave. "Jacob, I don't I have ever really apologized for leaving like I did. I am very sorry. I should have--"
The knock on the door paused her and she ducked her head to hide the excited blush on her face. Paul was here! "Excuse me, while I will get it." Rachael looked up at Jacob for a moment, and smiled in a nervous and excited sort of way before hurrying over to the door. Opening it, her eyes widened at Paul and the flowers. "Paul! You didn't have to do that." [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

His sisters apology almost broke his heart, he felt it squeeze shut-- and then, Knock. Jacob eyes turned toward the door and he moved to open it, but Rachael was already there. Her smile caught him off guard, and he paused in his tracks. Was he missing something important? She was expecting Paul, and worse... was excited! Jake leaned around Rach to see what she was excited about... flowers? His mind felt like it was running a million miles an hour and he could not keep up!
Paul...
Flowers...
Rachael...
Click.
"Paul..." Jacob looked at the Beta from Sam's pack and glared. The stupid mutt. The one wolf he could not stand. Imprinted on HIS sister. He felt like tearing Paul apart limb by limb, and he felt his body shaking. He inhaled deeply, not wanting to frighten his sister, and plastered a fake, unwelcoming smile on his face. This was not going to be pleasant. Jacob felt himself move backwards to let Paul into his house, though he would much rather be breaking Paul's face instead. He sighed.
Well my life was perfect, until this.

"Anything for you," he said in the most charming tone he could, to Rachael. Paul was certainly trying to be on his best behavior . . . mostly because he wanted to impress the woman in front of him, and annoying Jacob in the process was just a perfect perk -- but it was not his primary motive. "Hey Jake, sup?" He asked, smacking him on the back as he walked past him . . . this house would soon be like his second home, and before long, he wouldn't need to knock before entering. Oh, wouldn't that be wonderful indeed. "How have you been Ray?" He asked, standing rather close to her.
"I missed you," he added in a low voice so that if Jacob heard, he would have to be listening rather closely. The only down side of this whole arrangement that Paul could think of was that he did not want Jake to see his softer side . . . the way Paul was with Rachael was entirely different than the way he was with the pack. He would have to find a balance so that he would not have to compromise his reputation, but at the same time, be a true, gentleman to Ray so that he could win her over completely, and not make her think that he had split personalities.

Rachael held the flowers for a moment, while looking up at Paul. Paul and Jacob were so much taller then her now. It was almost scary how big they both had grown up. Jacob more so. To Rachael's mind he had still been that little brother that she was taller then, so coming home and seeing her brother had not just shoot up a few inches but also a few feet had been earth shattering. It was hard to see Jacob as her baby brother anymore. When she had sent a text photo to one of her college friends, of Jacob they had assumed he was her older brother, not the other way around. "I've been good, thank you." She smiled, and blushed still in shock that Paul Moran was paying attention to her now. "I am going to put these in my room."
As Rachael walked out of the room and she put her hand on Jacob's arm and gave him a smile, as she could tell he was either surprised to see her and Paul together, or something. Rachael had thought they were friends, they hung out together allot, when on hikes or something in the woods. She then kept walking out to head down the very short hall and to living room where she was staying on the couch currently. While she knew everyone would have moved around for her, she had not wanted to kick Jacob out of his bed room and there were no other rooms, so she just took the couch at nights. She put them in a vase that was already out and spread them out some in it. Paul was so sweet to bring her flowers. The way Paul moved about his sister, his being nice, and even being chipper with Jacob was... annoying. this calm, loving, friendly person was... different. Jacob just sighed and sat down. He tried to tone the two out while they talked, he would want the same privacy. So when he watched Rach walk out, all bets were off, in his mind. "Paul... care to explain?" It was bad enough Jake still remembered a time when Paul to Rebecca to the dance, but now things were just awkward. The two were wolves. The bond was permanent. And now his sister was being pulled into the web as well. It made since that a wolf would imprint on another of Black's children, but Paul. Life was just cruel.
Well at least one good thing came out of this no matter what. Once Rach knew about the wolf part, he wouldn't have to hide it from her anymore. Him and Billy wouldn't need to come up with stupid excuses any more about where Jacob disappeared to in the middle of the night. And even better, she would understand he was FORCED to hang out with Paul at times... well... he didn't want to hurt her. He could probably leave that part out.

Paul smiled as he watched Rachael leave the room. Though he found himself already missing her, he was also going to take this opportunity to further irritate his future brother in law. He turned to Jake, his smile transforming into more of a smug grin. "Explain? Oh, is there somethin' I need to explain?" He was just playing dumb of course. He knew Jake knew that he had imprinted . . . it was one thing to want to date someone, but imprinting was a whole new degree of that and it was easy to tell when one of the brothers in the pack had done so. "Is this whole thing making you feel uncomfortable kid?" He wasn't asking in a concerned way, but rather, in more of a taunting tone. Paul was never subtle when it came to wanting to irritate someone or push them around.
"Man, your sis is amazing." Paul was going to avoid bringing up the words 'wolf' and 'imprinting' especially since Rachael could walk back in any second and this was not the way he intended to tell her about the whole wolf phasing thing. "I'm sure glad she's back in town," he added, continuing to try to annoy him, though it was true . . . Paul was in fact very glad that Rachael was here; he would have just used a different tone when saying that to her.

Rachael came back in the room right as Paul finished talking and felt her self blush. It was still hard to believe that the little boy who kicked sand in her face when they were eight, and the high school super star she'd had a crush on suddenly saw her. Rachael lacked the self confidence to think it was something about her self, and wondered at the change. Allot of had changed since she'd been gone.
That wasn't true, La Push still was the same. The people; or more direct the boys; of La Push had changed. Not only were they bigger then simi-short and slightly chubby Rachael Black remembered, but they acted different. Rachael wasn't sure what to compare their actions to. Not a gang or a cult, as they never did anything--not true. They disappeared allot. Kept things to them selves. What were they hiding? "I came back when I heard about Jacob." Chief Swan, her father's best friend, called her and told her Jacob had been missing. When she spoke to her father he claimed it was just teenage boy stuff. Worried, Rachael had come home from school for the first time in over two years. By the time she had gotten home, Jacob was back and everyone seemed to be acting as if he had not ran away.
Not wanting to drag the mood down, Rachael walked all the way into the room, stopping just besides her brother and gave him a smile, while she tried to make a joke. "I came home expecting a little kid, I was so shocked to see Jacob taller then me. Guess I can't beat you up anymore." To be fair, she had lost the ability to beat Jacob up when he turn about ten, and grew into his guy strength. Rachael wondered how they stayed so fit, and prayed it wasn't drugs. Paul's response to Jacob was maddening. Never before had Jake felt this undying need to hurt Paul before. This was Jacob's SISTER, and the stupid wolf imprinted on her. He knew he would have to accept it, but still. He sighed and ignored the mutt for only seconds after Paul 'explained' Rachael walked back into the room, and he saw a flash of... something on her face when she spoke the reasons she had come back to La Push. He knew... it was because of him. He had only ever left because of Bella, and Rachael came, to protect her little brother. He couldn't even explain to h-- oh wait yes he could. All bets were off once an imprint was in place. He glanced over at Paul, the wolf hadn't told her yet, that much was obvious. How annoyed would Paul be if her brother told her, and not her soul mate? He smiled a devious smile, but let it go. That was wrong.
Rachael came to Jake's side and he draped his arm across his sisters shoulders, "Sis, I think you have just shrunk, that's all. Nothing to do with us boys getting bigger!" He chuckled and gave his sister a small squeeze before dropping his arm. It was good to have her home, and even if Paul was the reason she would be staying, he was happy to know that she would be around. He missed his sisters. A lot.

Paul had to control his laughter. Instead, he just chuckled a bit, having to hold back a lot. As wolves, they often fought a lot, and showed off their strength and speed with each other, brutally beating one another but of course, it would heal soon after and it was all in good fun. And here was Rachael, teasing her baby brother, and it made Paul find great amusement as she emphasized the age difference between them. Paul had to accept the fact that Jacob was a bigger and stronger wolf than him -- since he was Beta of the pack after all -- but now, he could make fun of the fact that Jacob was in fact younger . . . then again, Rachael was doing it for it, which made it all the more hilarious.
"Aww, poor little Jakey. I bet she beat you up big time kid." Paul smirked at Jacob. "Hey Ray, did you have any nicknames for Jake when he was little?" Oh he was definitely not going to let this go . . . he was going to have as much fun with this as possible, and then let the other guys know so that they could all get in on the teasing.

Rachael smiled when Jake teased her back, she had really missed having her brother and it felt good that they could be at ease with each other after everything that had passed. She was about to tease him back but Paul's chuckle stopped her. She looked up at Paul, and gave a small and short laugh. Rachael thought that the two were good friends, and that Paul's teasing was in good humor, however she still wasn't going to give Paul ammo.
Rachael took a second to work up the courage to tease Paul back but when she got it, she did her best to sound confidant and light. "Not as much as you used to bully me." She told Paul, talking about how when they were younger (much younger), Paul had ruined her sandcastle and kicked sand in her face. Then later in life, in high school he had gotten her after school detention one day, and almost caused her to fail a project. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Paul's chuckle made Jake come up short, but he quickly fixed the expression on his face before his sister could catch on. He would be happy, at least for her. When Paul tried to get the horrible nicknames he was once called, he almost growled, but thankfully his sister was one loyal family member. "So... Ray, food? Ya!?" Just as Jacob spoke his stomach growled, he was so hungry, and his anger of Paul was only growing. Could he order Paul to stay away from his sister? He was Beta, and Paul had to listen... he doubted it, though it might be worth a shot.
Jake's eyes came to look up at Paul, and he saw it. He saw the love behind Paul's eyes, even though he was trying very hard to hide it. Damn imprint, making everyone so lovey dovey, even Paul. Paul... the one who used to pick on Ray... just like she stated. Jake burst into a fit of laughter when Ray brought it up, somehow it made him feel better to know that at least Ray would never forget about that. Not that it mattered now, but still. It was entertaining.

HAHAHA---- oh snap. That was a burn and Paul knew it. Well . . . to some extent. He actually had no recollection of how much he used to bully Rachael when they were younger. He apparently kicked her sand castle? He vaguely remembered getting her a detention because of some obscure egg incident . . . . . . but now everything was different, and yet he couldn't explain it without bringing up just how drastically different he was now. Had he not imprinted, he would have been the same guy he was before. Jacob laughing just annoyed Paul even more. He needed to say something . . . but wait, he had to be nice because Ray was here. Damn it. If it had just been Paul and Jacob, Paul would have made some snide remark. Some sarcastic stab and Jake . . . but he couldn't do that right now. He needed to be . . . . . . dare he say . . . . . respectful.
Damn Jacob Black.
Paul's smile faded and he just stood there, slightly glaring at Jacob before softening his expression when looking back at Ray. He smile at her lovingly. "I grew up, and since I met you, you made me want to be a better person." Paul was trying to suck up and compensate for everything he had done in the past . . . and it would be a double win if Jacob grew annoyed with Paul's comments towards his sister. Paul was not going to lose this one.

Rachael felt her self blush, and she looked at the floor while hiding her smile. The line Paul just delivered was from the movie 'As Good As It Gets' but hearing someone say it, it didn't sound as horrible as it did in the movie. She wanted to say something about how he could not had changed so dramatically in the short time she had been back but she didn't want to have that conversation before Jacob. "It will be ready shortly, why don't you help Paul set the table, while I finish cooking real quick?"
Rachael walked over to the counter and started finishing up the prepping for the meal. She hummed very softly, thinking the boys would not hear. Her roommate back home had never heard her. The smell was filling up the small house as the cooking bacon and chicken was almost done. The chicken was wrapped in strips of bacon and then covered in brown sugar. It was something Rachael had learned to cook while at school, and it was one of her favorites.[/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

A disgusted look crossed Jacob's face briefly at Paul's comment toward his sister, and he almost felt himself loose control and break Paul's nose. The temptation was great, but seeing the happy expression on his sister's face reeled in his anger and he settled down enough to her her suggest that the two set the table. . . together. Hell was freezing over. It had to be.
With a nod of his head Jacob moved toward the table picking up the knives and throwing them at-- to Paul. He wished one would cut him, but knew the other wolf would be too quick with his reflexes to make any real marks. No reason to feel guilty. But he did when he heard his sister humming from the other room. He stopped his actions and listened in. She was happy. She was happy because of him, but also because she was in love. . . with Paul.
Life was just unfair sometimes.

Paul watched as Rachael went back to finishing dinner. He then looked at Jake and took a few steps towards him. "Yeah Jakey boy, why don't you set the table while I see if your sister needs any help." He was having way too much fun with this. There was no reason to hold back. Even once they were away from Rachael, Jake could get all his aggressions out and since when did Paul Moran not want to pick a fight? It would be hilarious really! "Who knows, maybe she'll even be wearing a kiss the cook apron," he said winking and nudging Jake. He made sure to speak in a low voice so that she would not hear . . . the last thing he wanted her to think was that he was a creep.
With that, he turned and went to where Rachael was standing. "Jake insisted that he set the table, so I came here to see if you needed any last minute help with anything. Smells delicious by the way."

If Rachael had known they were tossing knives around she would have freaked out, so it was a good thing she was in her own little world at the moment. Rachael was having fun playing house in a way, which was odd. Once of the reasons she had left home was because she felt she had been forced into the parent role to young and had not lived her own life. For some reason, now it felt right. Odd.
Rachael jumped slightly at Paul's words not having heard him come up closer. How did these big men move so silently? "Yeah, I do." She reached over and picked up three glasses. "Make the drinks? You can just get me apple juice, and get you whatever you want. I am not sure what Jacob would want so ask him and then put them on the table." Rachael paused feeling bossy for a moment and then smiled up in a slightly nervous way, "Please?"
After Paul had walked away, she turned to get the chicken out of the oven, she had a pot holder but the tips of her fingers hit the hot pan anyway. She didn't want them to know she was clumsy (especially after hearing over and over and OVER how great Emily was in the kitchen) so just inhaled deeply and held her breath so not to say ouch or something and sat the pan down loudly. "Almost ready!" She called as she ran her finger tips under some water. When she took the chicken to the table, she would have to use two pot holders. "Are you guys done?" Jake just went about ignoring Paul. Sometimes ignoring the ignorant worked better than fighting with them. They always assumed they were right. . . and blah blah blah. Plus in Paul's case he just liked to argue to hear his own dumb voice. Jacob shook his head and sighed. It annoyed him houw much he was bothered by his pack brother. Their was just so many things he couldn't stand about it, but at the same time he cared about him.
Damn wolf thing.
With a quick look at his accomplished work Jacob smiled and walked into the kitchen where his sister was running her finger underwater, he caught a hint of slightly burnt flesh and he wanted to reach out to her, but knew he shouldn't. So Jacob just waited for his sister to turn around, and yelled at Paul. "I want some punch." Might as well use Paul as a slave while he can!
