"I'm supposed to be taking care of you Ray. I vowed to do that, whether you were pregnant or not. You shouldn't have to worry about expenses or anything . . . that should be my job. You shouldn't have to stress about anything. I'll be home enough to make sure you're alright, but we have to think about things . . . about how we're going to support a baby. About how we're going to -- " Wait. He had just assumed they were going to keep the baby, and that they were going to continue to live together.
"Ray . . . are we keeping the baby? Are we gonna keep living here?" OH NO! What if THAT was what she meant when she said that they were sort of having a baby. What if she planned to put it up for adoption -- since he knew she was not the type to have an abortion. She wouldn't even let him harm a bear who was attacking them, there was no way she was going to terminate the baby. Maybe this was what she meant when she said that she would handle everything.

Miss understanding his comments, Rachael stood up slowly and wrapped her arms around her belly. "I am keeping my babies!" She said defensively. She watched him closely trying to see where he was going with the questions. He had been stressing out about money, and cribs then he suddenly asked the random question of if they were keeping them! Like they were something for a yard sale! "I'm not giving either of them up!" She walked away confused as to how he could even ask her that. She headed to the living room and sat down on the couch, not hungry anymore. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Had Paul been paying enough close attention, he would have realized she said 'babies' -- the plural form of baby, and that she was went on to say that she wasn't giving either of them up. Of course, Paul was still in shock -- even though it had been quite some time after she had told him. He was now distracted by the fact that he had upset her, and quickly followed her to the living. He crouched on the floor, in front of her while she sat on the couch. "No no, thats not what I meant Ray. I just meant, like, do you want to keep them." That was not a good explanation of his previous misinterpreted question, but he was not thinking fluently.

He was repeating him self! Rachael turned her head to look at him. "Paul. Let me be very clear. I know your shock, and your not thinking clearly, you've been rambling for almost an hour. However, I am not giving up either of my children. Any that I have now, or later." She spoke slowly. "Do YOU want to give them up? If you do, if that is why your asking, just say the word." She would leave him, and it would break her. Not just her heart but her everything, but she couldn't leave some stranger to raise her little Pauls. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

She was so firm, and it further confused Paul because he did not understand how his question sounded. Now . . . later . . . how many kids was she planning on having?! "I don't want to give up our baby. I was, just checking. Cause, well . . . damn it! I still don't know what you mean when you say that we're sort of having a baby! That could mean a million different things! That its sick, that you don't want to keep it, that its half a baby! I'm confused. So, SO confused and . . . and . . . we need a crib. We need clothes! And one of those musical things that spins around and plays music!" He was rambling again. "What word do you want me to say? I don't want you to give it up. I think we should keep the baby . . . but are we still living here? Are you going back to your dad's? We need a plan Rach!" A plan? This was how Paul knew he was really rambling: Paul Moran never made plans.

Paul was making her nervous. Not in the scary way but in the 'I can't think' way. It was hard follow half of what he said and what she could was only because he was repeating it over and over and over. "There is no sort of! There is a baby!" She said trying to keep calm. Stress was bad for the twins. "Paul, I promised Emily I would come over and help her do something tonight." Rachael got up, kissed him and then went to put her shoes on sock-less. It was a lie, she had not told Emily any such thing but she needed to let Paul adjust. Let him deal with this before he drove them both mad. "I will be right back in a few hours. . . Do you want me to call Sam for you or anything?" [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

OH NO! She was leaving him. She shouldn't go, she was pregnant! "No, I don't need to talk to him right now." In fact, he really did. He desperately need to talk to a friend since that was where Rachael was going -- but at the same time, if he was so incoherent with her, he would be 10 times worse with Sam. "How many hours is a few?" That was too long. "You shouldn't be driving." He clearly missed the part where she said she was not an invalid. "Want me to drop you off?" He paused for a moment. "Do you have to go?" He really didn't want her to, but he seemed to only making her more upset.

You seemed so stressed and It's worrying me. I am going to be back in a few hours." She wasn't sure what a few was. "I will be back tonight. We will talk in the morning." He saw her tears, and wondered how bad he was being . . . or whether it was the hormones as well. He wasn't going to comment on that possibility. He was clearly just upsetting her. "I can't help it! Its a big responsibility!" The joy would sink in . . . eventually . . . wouldn't it? "Why the morning?" He was going to stay up waiting for her. Maybe he should patrol for a bit. . . . only if no one else was. "You're going to be that late? No! Don't call Sam!" He was in no state to talk to him about this right now. "Wait, we . . . " He paused, knowing that she needed a bit of space right now. He just stayed quiet and looked down at the ground, biting his tongue from rambling again.

"We what?" He looked at her slightly confused. OH! Right. He was beginning to say something to her. "I was just going to say that we still need to talk, and plan things, and shop for things, and -- " He was rambling again. "And I guess I'll see you later?" He was going to go look for a decent paying job while she was at Emily's. That, for some reason, was the one thing that was on his mind the most.

Rachael watched him for a moment before walking over to him, kissing him then turning and walking out. She was on the edge of crying. He was to stressed and it was making her head spin. Litterly. She was feeling stressed and just wanted to curl up in bed. Once she made it around the car, she noticed it was in Paul's grass. She just stood there for a moment looking at it before turning around and walking to the old swing set of Pauls that had been put up in the yard for Claire and Nessie. They didn't come over much but Paul's mother had said they could move it here so they had something for the kids to do. It helped with appearances for Nessie.
Rachael just sat there, thinking in peace. It didn't take her long to be happy about this. Paul would come around! He would. He loved her and he said one day he wanted kids, so she could give him time and he would come around and they could be a family! [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Paul waited a few moments before getting up. He needed to get a job! He couldn't just bum around anymore, he would have to get more serious . . . sorta. Paul and serious hardly went in the same sentence. He quickly left the house and had so much on his mind, that he did not notice Rachael's bug parked in the driveway; he thought she had already left. He didn't even bother taking his bike to . . . who knows where. He just walked.
He walked and walked and walked, and jogged, and ran and without even knowing it, ended up at Emily's house. It was probably a subconscious thing. Maybe the shock was starting to subside . . . maybe. He figured that since he was there, he should try to talk to Rachael since they had a lot to talk about. He knocked on the door and Emily opened it.
"Hey Em, can I talk to Ray?"
"She's not here Paul."
WHAT?!?!?!? Where was she! Where did she go! If she went to the Cullen's house . . . . . . .
"Oh, okay. Thanks." He quickly turned to leave, pulling out his phone and was about to dial her number, when he paused mid way.
They . . . . . . . were . . . . . . having . . . . . . . a . . . . . . . . BABY! A BABY! THEIR OWN BABY!
Suddenly, Paul felt ecstatic. The thought of holding a small baby, part of him and part of Rachael in a new human being. The thought of that was enough to make the shock disappear, and the joy take him over. He put away his phone, and bolted down the street. He needed to make it up to her, and had a plan to do just that. Then again, would he able to contain his excitement long enough? He needed to see her! Wait, where was she?! Paul didn't know what to do. First he would prepare to make it up to her . . . then he would hunt her down, and kill the Cullens if that was in fact where she was.

Rachael walked inside a while after Paul left. She wasn't sure what she planned to do once in there, but supper was out of the plan. However, she had to eat. For the baby.
She ate the cooling food and then cleaned up the kitchen. She put some Reynolds wrap over a plate and wrote his name on it along with 'how to' for heating it up. Then she went to her office. Their house was small but she had planned to have an office. With the babies coming they would need one of the extra rooms free for them. Since she didn't want Paul to give up anything, she knew the office was out. She only had a few things un-boxed as she was trying to find the perfect furniture for the room. She re-boxed the few boxes and wrote 'storage' on them. She put them in a pail, and would ask Paul or Jacob to help her get them to storage later.
Once her new-baby room was looking less like a office and more like a blank room with potential for more, she went to shower, and then bed. Tomorrow would be better.[/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Paul ordered what he needed to. It would get there tomorrow in the day sometime. He wanted to keep it as a surprise for Rachael . . . he wanted to show that he could be supportive . . . ish. He still had no idea where she was, and this was worrying. By the time he got home though, he saw that she had some food there for him. He read the instructions (SO thankful that Rachael understood him well enough to know that he would have had no idea what to do without directions). Following them, he quickly wolfed down his food, and put his dishes in the sink.
He then proceeded to the bedroom, where he saw Rachael sleeping soundly. He did not want to wake her, so just kissed her on the forehead, before leaving the room once again. He felt wide awake. He began to walk around their house, noticing that one of the rooms had boxes in it, one labeled as storage. He inspected the room, knowing exactly what it needed to turn into: their baby's room. Paul was a bit of a selfish person at times, but now . . . he was going to be considerate, and perform one of his not to many selfless acts. He would sacrifice anything to make Rachael happy, and a room was nothing compared to her happiness. She loved her office, he did not want her to give it up. Paul spent that night, clearing out his room. He did not have many things, but what he did have, he packed up in boxes. He would take them to his parent's house to store them, since they were going to have limited place in their own house now. It took him the entire night, and he did not even realize the moment he had gone to sleep. It was one of the few nights that he had not phased and patrolled with the others . . . instead, he ended up falling asleep on his new bed: the couch.

The dawning of the sun woke Rachael up. It wasn't bright but it was enough to wake her and once awake her thinking wouldn't let her sleep. She stretched and got up, showered, and dressed in jeans and one of Paul's shirts of the clean clothes she had folded but not put up yet. She liked wearing his clothes. She needed to feel close to him right now.
Walking out of her room, she passed his room and the sight of it nearly made her faint. It was packed up! It was almost empty. Her head spun for a moment. Why?! What was going on! She looked around it and felt her heart break. Was he leaving--No. No imprinting wasn't going to let him leave her.
Oh! Now her heart was breaking! The baby! He did it for the baby! She felt her eyes water, and for the next few moments she just stood there crying. Silently. Oh Paul!
She finally found him on the couch, after a quick turn about around the house. Paul, Paul, Paul. She wrote him a quick note 'Paul-Gone to the store, and Emilys. Be back soon- ♧ And she got in her bug and left.
A five hours later, she would return, with a silently clearer head. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Paul woke up later. Later than Rachael apparently since she had left a note for him. He was getting the distinct feeling that 'going to Emily's' had turned into some sort of code for something else. Paul didn't know where she was going, and that worried him greatly, especially since she was carrying his child around now. He didn't want her to go near any of the bloodsuckers, and they were always lurking around. Paul took out his cell and was about to dial her number, when he paused.
As much as he hated to admit it and pretend to be okay with it, maybe she needed some time away from him. Maybe she was angry with the way he had reacted to the news. THEY WERE HAVING A BABY.
This reality shocked Paul all over again. He set the note down, and decided to finish what he started last night. He went to his bedroom and picked up a couple of the boxes. Since his house wasn't far, he decided to walk it. He needed to go to his parent's house anyway; since Rachael wasn't here, he needed his mom to make him breakfast. When all the boxes were in storage space in his parents place -- and he had eaten a substantial meal -- Paul decided to head back home. Rachael was still not back. He was getting worried, but once again, fought the urge to call her. If she was not back by the time he ran a few errands, he was going to track her down. But for now, he had to go find a good, decent paying job so that they could afford to have a baby.

Rachael parked her bug and then got out. It was parked better then the day before, but she tried not to think of the day before, at all. Not while she had a clear head. She noticed Paul wasn't home shortly after unlocking the door and going on. She wondered where he was. Well, she had a surprise coming for him. After talking with Emily she had a rather important question for him. One that would change allot with how things where between them. Rachael sat down on the couch and opened a book she had gotten today from the store. Murtaugh jumped up on her couch (which would have annoyed her had he not cuddled up to her). At lest the dog still wanted to be close to her. Fat or not![/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

The job search proved to be useless. He hadn't found any good jobs that would pay enough. He needed to make a good amount of money to make sure both Ray and the baby had a comfortable lifestyle. Construction was no longer enough. As he parked his cycle, he noticed Ray's blue buggy in the driveway. Good! She was home!
He quickly went inside. "Ray?" He called, not taking long to notice her sitting on the couch. He walked over to her and sat on the other side, scratching Murtaugh behind the ear with one hand and putting his arm around her with the other. "How are you feeling?" Her health was the most important thing right now....and her happiness...and her comfort....and....okay, so there were a lot of important things. Paul was too tired to interrogate her about where she had been this morning and last night. He would get to that eventually. Right now, he just needed to make sure she was okay.

"Don't worry. I thought we could just get take out tonight or something." For once, Paul was being considerate and letting her relax this evening . . . she would need a lot of rest, even if she did say she was fine. "What did you do today?" He asked. Things seemed so casual . . . as if she had not told him only yesterday that she was pregnant with his child. It was something that would still take a crazy amount of time to adjust to . . . despite the fact that Paul had cleaned out his entire room for the baby.

"I thought allot." Rachael said honestly. "Visited Emily, and went to the store." She had gotten her book there. The information book about being pregnant with twins. "What did you do today? "Really?" He asked, trying not to sound overly suspicious. He had to bring up yesterday though . . . because he was worried about where she had been. "Cause I stopped by Emily's yesterday . . . " He didn't quite finish the statement, he wanted to see what she said, since she had not been there. He was restraining from blurting out why she had lied to him, though that question would probably soon follow the one he had just asked. He just needed to phrase it properly. "I'll order something for us later," he mumbled, still wanting to find out more about where she had been, why she had lied, what her plans were. . . he had no idea what to do.

"I guess...I just figured we weren't really done talking." Paul knew he was not good at this kind of stuff, but he hated when she left the house, angry, or frustrated . . . or whatever she had been feeling. "Where did you go yesterday Ray?" He wanted to know where she had gone, and why she felt the need to lie about her destination. The fact that she had done that only worried him even more. It was why he was being less subtle, and just asking her instead of hinting towards the fact that he knew she had not gone to Emily's.

"Oh." OOOHHH! Damn it! Paul could have just looked outside and he would have found her. He could have saved himself all the trouble of running around town. "Did it help? I mean, did you clear your head or something . . ." He wasn't sure how to phrase his words. He wanted to know what she was thinking about this entire thing, Had he completely discouraged her from the idea of a baby? Paul wanted Rachael to be happy more than anything else; it was how it had always been from the moment he had imprinted on her. It was what a man in love wanted for the woman that he loved.

Paul didn't need or want time. Time meant he would have to be away from her because he couldn't deal with this. He didn't want that. He wanted to be with her, all the time. Perhaps he hadn't fully slipped out of his stage of denial, but maybe he wouldn't until he was holding their baby in his arms. Oh god . . . the mere thought of that freaked Paul out all over again. He was going to have to stick to smaller things right now; slowly build up to the idea of them having a child.
He didn't comment on anything about needing time. Instead, he took her hand and stood up, pulling her up with him. He led her to what had been his bedroom, and brought her inside. "I thought that we could put the crib here," he said, motioning to one portion of the room. "And unless you wanna know the sex of the baby, we can paint the room a neutral color. Maybe like yellow or something." Paul was not the best with words, and with expressing his emotions . . . so this was his way of saying, I'm with you during this.

It answered none of the million questions running though her head.
Yet, in a way, it answered every single one of them. Rachael wanted to say something witty, she wanted in the moment to be the woman Paul would need by his side forever. Someone strong and bold and brave. Someone who could smile up at him and tell him he was wonderful and perfect and how much she loved him. She wanted to be that girl more then she wanted to be anything else. She wanted to be able to so something besides look up at him, breaking to happy tears and unable to get a word out.
But she wasn't that girl, she was Rachael Black, and she broke into tears, and wrapped her arms around him. However, knowing how he was with emotion, she tried her best to get some words out.
