Aro sat on a wooden throne in the main chamber of the castle a smile on his face as usual. His brothers, Caius and Marcus, were not here at the moment, but he was far from alone. The guard surrounded the room giving him some distance. They were talking quietly amongst themselves there was no reason to be stressed or tense. They had fed a couple nights ago all of their eyes a bright ruby. His eyes scanned the room routinely looking at the guard. Each gift was a prize he had acquired and each one he would not give up so easily. Some had been forced, some changed by his guard, others came on their own free will. But of course this was just mindless thinking no reason to.
His life as of right now was perfect. He had the power he had always craved. Marcus was no longer wanting to leave the Volturi the thought hadn't crossed his mind in a few centuries. Not since the death of his love of course he would never know the truth. Know who killed his wife, Aro's sister. And he was sure things would not change for some time. The vampire world was calm at the moment, but he was sure that would change. Sooner or later there would be a vampire who would go crazy or simply go bored and want to expose himself. It happened on occasion and was quickly taken care of.
Aro wasn't to fond of change and that was the reason he wanted things to remain the same. But of course the occasion destruction of vampire was something to do. It was a bit satisfying to let the other vampires know they were still here and they would be destroyed if they broke any rules. If they did something to expose themselves they would most certainly be stopped. The 'royal family of the vampire world' is what they were often called. But they did much more than that they enforced laws and made sure all vampires guilty of a crime were destroyed. They didn't give second chances.

Running his long, pale fingers through his golden blonde hair Carlisle blinked in surprise his golden-brown eyes. It was a mere habit of blinking and breathing, so he was able to be out during the day assuming the weather was appropriate. It was not quite like he could just walk straight out in the sunlight without it being obvious he was not human. It was not like he'd burn up and shrivel because he was a vampire, but his skin woud glitter like diamonds. It was an odd affect, but did stand out.
It was a paticulary dark night, clouds covering a majority of the stars and the moon was a new moon. That did not affect Carlisle's ability to see one bit, though. He was approaching the town of Volterra, Italy from what he could tell. He had been studying quite a bit recently, and had been in Italy for a while. Naturally, he had to move around a bit as people would notice that he wasn't aging. He was very careful around humans, and was glad to have perfected his control.
When Carlisle's came across the scent of another vampire, actually many vampires, it surprised him. He could see a tower luming ahead, and that was where the scent of vampires where the strongest. His eye brows furrowed gently at the site. This was an extremely unusual circumstance, and he had not come across many vampires in his existence at the moment. "Hmm," he said thoughtfully in a musical but quiet voice outloud to himself.

Aro was always trying to think of ways to gain more power. He loved gaining power more than anything else. He would risk anything to have more or to make sure he kept his power. He had demonstrated this before. Not a thought he was going to focus on. After all it did not good to focus on what deeds he might have done. Aro could always gain more power by finding talents. The did not accept anyone in the guard. Talents were rare yes, but not all were useful. Aro has turned down a few who would not be of any advantage at all. The gifts must be rare and powerful. Allow Aro to make the Volturi that much more powerful. They were certainly a powerful coven and Aro made sure they stayed that way. Destroying any who challenge them in the process.
Making sure others followed their rules was also very important. Making sure he gained power and every vampire followed the rules, well rather one rule, they have set forth was a task. The one rule to make their existence a secret could so easily be broken and was. Of course any who did break this rule was destroyed. It was difficult with humans aware of vampires to enforce this rule. But over time perhaps humans will think they are nothing more than a myth. It would take time to be sure, but well worth the rate. It would so convenient to not have humans be so suspicious of them.
Aro looked at the vampire as the guards brought him inside the main chamber. Aro was instantly interested. He loved meeting new vampires! "Hello," Aro greeted his tone friendly. Aro rose to his feet smiling at the vampire. He wonder if he perhaps had some talent or if he was merely curious about the Volturi. There were a few who wanted to know more about them. Of course Aro was more than happy to tell them. To allow them to know he was in control of all of this along with his two brothers Marcus and Caius. Though they were not here at the moment that could change. If this vampire was interesting enough. They simply did not have his enthusiasm. "It is wonderful to have you here. I am Aro. May I request your name?" Aro could find everything out with one touch, but he would prefer he be told at first. Not reveal to much. He was curious to be sure. He didn't get to many visitors well other than the humans of course.

As he walked, Carlisle watched the castle carefully. He knew it was possible, in some odd form or way, for it to be a false scent set up by vampires. He did not see how it could happen though, it seemed rather unlikely that someone would go up to all of that trouble just to do that. The thoughts were gone in the same second that they had come to him, and were interrupted at the same time when two men, who were clearly vampires, asked him to come with them. He merely nodded at followed them.
Carlisle watched his settings as they walked, curious about the castle and it's history. It seemed extremely old, much older than he was. When he entered what seemed to be the main room, he was greeted by a man with papery white skin and long black hair. He seemed overly polite for a vampire, which did surprise him a bit. He was not used to kind vampires, or polite ones. He had only met one or two, but none of them had been on his diet that kept his eyes golden-brown, or nearly as compassionate as he was.
The enthusiam that this vampire possessed was also fairly surprising for Carlisle. He was not used to be quite as enthusiastic as he seemed to be either. He merely gave a nod at the introduction before speaking his name. "My name is Carlisle. Not to appear rude, but what exactly is this coven?" He was a truly curious man, always wanting to learn more about everything in his surroundings. It was just Carlisle's natural nattrue to want to learn as much as he could, so he was not surprised how direct he was being.

Aro studied the vampire before him. He was certainly different. His eyes were not the normal ruby red or black that a vampire had. It was very curious. This alone intrigued Aro he wanted to know much more about this vampire. He could so very easily know everything with one touch, but he could be patient. Wait and see what this vampire wanted what brought him the Volturi. Perhaps he was unaware of where he was. After all it was his guard that found him. If there were any vampires within their city they would always greet them. Find out what they want and make absolutely sure they did not reveal what they were. They could not allow the humans to know about their existence it was an ongoing process and would take time to achieve. For now the humans believed all the vampires had been run out by a saint. The humans would believe anything they even had a day to celebrate this. As long as the humans really thought there were no vampires in Volterra that would be good enough for Aro. For now. He would eventually want all humans to believe they were nothing, but a myth. Time is what was needed for this.
Aro smiled at Carlisle as he introduced himself. "Carlisle it truly is wonderful to meet you. You seem so very interesting!" Aro was intrigued with his golden eyes so strange. So very different. Aro had never seen anything like it. Aro smiled a bit more Aro loved to tell others who exactly he was and about his coven. The power, control he had. Along with his brothers of course. "The Volturi." Aro answered simply. "Some consider us to be a 'royal family.'" Aro had heard many call them this. They were the ruling class over the vampire world. They enforced their rules and destroyed any who disobeyed. "We have a very important duty to enforce our rules. To make sure there is no problems within our world. To keep our existence a secret." Of course there was so much more than keeping their existence a secret. Aro was always planning for some way to gain power. Some way to make the Volturi appear even more powerful. Aro would do anything to gain more power it was his main objective. He could never have enough power.
Aro was certainly curious about this vampire and wanted to know so much more about him. After all, all he knew was his name. The simply was not enough for Aro. He wanted to know everything about every vampire he met. And it was so easily obtained with one touch. "Carlisle I am so very curious about you. You appear different from the many I have come across." Aro had never seen a golden eyed vampire before it was very interesting. Aro could not figure out what could have possibly changed his eyes to be so. It seemed very unusual. Aro did not believe it was a talent, but perhaps it was. Aro smiled at the thought of this vampire having a talent. Aro loved gaining new talents, more power. "What brings you to our city?" Aro questioned. It was a simple question he wanted to know so much more, but he needed to be patient.

The Volturi did not ring a bell in Carlisle's perfect memory, and he merely nodded. He hadn't had a vampire to guide him or anything, and he wasn't sure what had happened to the coven of vampires that had lived in the sewer in his village. For all he knew, his whole town might has been massacred, or the vampires could have been disposed of. Either way it was far too late for him to know. He had hid himself after his change into a vampire was over for a while, and never returned.
Then Carlisle was certainly happy that he had not revealed vampires being real in his years. Though, he had known about the existence of them before he was turned. "I see, then I suppose it's a good thing I've kept vampirism a secret. Though I did know of them as a human, so I suppose it was a rather good thing I was bitten." He said with a nod. He wasn't quite sure what would happen if vampires existence had been spilled because of them, though had a few ideas what could have happened.
Carlisle knew immediately what Aro could have meant by different. He had learned that being a 'vegetarian' vampire wasn't exactly popular. "I pressume you mean my eye color?" He said, having a feeling it was true. "I was merely passing through. I was unaware of the presence of other vampires." He explained calmly, which wasn't at all a surprise. He was always rather cool, calm, and collected which could come in handy at times.

It was a task trying to keep their existence a secret. Humans seemed to become more suspicious over time. Believing in vampires more and more. But Aro was correcting such problems. Several vampires had been destroyed. They had even made Volterra supposedly 'vampire free' and humans would slowly begin to think they were not real. "It has taken many centuries to try and make humans think we are nothing but myth, and yet they still think we are real. Perhaps would should 'visit' where you came from. We must ensure our way of life is a secret. It is a task and may take many more centuries, unfortunately." Aro would love to visit the vampires Carlisle had known perhaps another demonstration was in need. Caius would enjoy this Aro was certain. He always wanted to destroy something.
Aro smiled curious about his eye color. "Yes, my friend, in all my years I have never such a color. You simply must tell me why your eyes are golden. It is so unusual." Aro would be expecting an answer very few did not knowing it was best to do as he said, but this vampire had never heard of the Volturi. He may be unaware of how much power Aro really was. Aro was curious about the reason. Aro wonder if it was because of some talent he had. Aro was always looking for ways to gain more power. He was always eager to gain more he could never have enough. Of course if there was some other reason for this strange eye color Aro would be pleasantly surprised. Either one would be fascinating to find out. Aro was always so very curious and always wanting to learn so much more.
"We simply love having visitors! I am most certain my brothers would love meeting you. You seem so very interesting!" Aro was certain his brothers could care one way or the other, but they would need to meet this new vampire. So very unusual. Aro also loved telling vampires about him. Those who did not know about the Volturi, just as the vampire did not. Aro was eager to find so much more. He could know everything with one touch and he would. But for now he simply wanted this vampire to tell him more. They already needed to make a small 'visit' to this vampires' home as a human. Caius may enjoy that he could see that the vampires were destroyed. Make everyone aware once again that if you reveal their existence you would be destroyed. There was no other options.

Carlisle could understand the reasoning behind not wanting humans to be aware of the presence of vampires in the world. It would cause a mass amount of chaos amongst them, and probably many of the paler humans would be accused of being vampires. Naturally, that wouldn't be fair or good. The population could drop down a major amount for humans. He could see why he would want to visit the old village, but it was probably in ruins by now. The village had been rather small, and fights would often break out in the small town.
Personally, Carlisle had no problem explaining the strange hue of his eyes. He wouldn't be surprised if Aro had never heard of such a thing, and probably would be rather surprised if he had. From what he knew by nomads, it was uncommon. "Instead of feeding off of humans as a source of blood, I've sustrained myself off of the blood of animals." He explained calmly, something he had done with every nomad that have ever asked him. Which was of course quite a few, as most vampires were rather curious about his eyes.
Carlisle merely smiled at his comment. He was slightly surprised that he had brothers, and just assumed that they had claimed to be 'brothers' after they were changed. Then again - he couldn't be too sure. He hadn't had a brother nor a sister as a human, seeing as his mother had died during his birth. Though being called interesting wasn't a first for him for the two (?) centuries that he had already been living. Most nomadic vampires had told him that, but hadn't bothered to try to sustain themselves on the blood of animals.

"Off the blood of animals?" Aro questioned doubtfully. How or why would any vampire want to drink the blood of animals? "No humans at all? You are never tempted?" It was a fascinating idea! How strong could someone be to resist human blood? Unless of course they stayed away from humans. But still! To survive drinking animal blood this was something he had never heard of it was truly fascinating. It was also very curious why his eyes changed to a golden color instead of red. There was so much to learn! So much to think about. Aro wanted to know so much more he was certain he would be good friends with Carlisle. Aro considered everyone a 'friend' they had no choice to accept that. Whether they were a friend or not. Aro could be enthusiastic, friendly even, but just turn around on you be harsh and demanding. He was double-sided and it could change so quickly if you irritated him.
"Ah, my new friend you simply must stay with us! So much we could learn and so much you could learn as well. You know very little about our life, do you not? There is so many possibilities so much to learn!" Aro was requesting that he stay. He could refuse Aro wouldn't like that, but he would not force him. He still yet to discover if he has some sort of talent. Now that he knew the reason for his eyes he wanted to know more. Aro was intently curious always wanting to learn. Always wanting to figure out everything. And he did. He could know everything and he would about this young vampire.
Aro smiled at the possibility of learning so much more. Of course if this vampire did decide to stay then he would have the chance to meet his brothers. They were not as enthusiastic about learning as Aro was. But certainly they would be interested in this vampire. So very different from those they had had come across in over two thousand years, nearly three. It was so very interesting. Aro was certain Marcus would not care one way or the other. It was sometimes an annoyance with Marcus he no caring for much, but he did his part. Caius Aro could be uncertain he may like the idea of this vampire or not care enough. So much to consider, so much to think about.

"Ahh, yes, the blood of animals. I was tempted at first, but have learned to ignore the pull. I haven't tasted the blood of humans, nor do I plan on tasting it any time soon. I've managed to live arounds humans for the past few decades, and worked as a doctor while ignoring the scent of their blood." Well, Carlisle couldn't say he truly ignored it. It did help tell what was wrong with the human, and even sometimes what was going to be the cause of their death. It could even help stop their death, which was a step up for vampires.
"Alas, I would not wish to be a burden upon you and your coven. That is true, I do know very little about the vampire conspiracy, but if you insist I will stay." Carlisle said calmly. He didn't want to be a burden though, that was most certainly the last thing that he wanted to cause upon them. It was extremely unlike him to being accepting help from others, and not the other way around. Except, mainly, Carlisle was helping mere humans with their health issues.
Though, in Carlisle's eyes they were not 'weak' little humans like some vampires thought of them. He saw that they were strong, even though comparing them to a vampire physically it was like comparing a gorilla to a fruit fly. It was a huge difference in their physical strength, but mental strength seemed to be such a difference. It fascinated the doctor with all of their reactions, they were such interesting people! Then again, they could just be because of the fact that he remembered only brief points of his human life and no details.

"You have never tasted human blood, not even once? That is quiet impressive. To deny your thirst, your nature. It is so very curious!" Aro was surprised to come across a vampire who has never tasted human blood. It was so unusual, strange, and so very interesting. Aro had never even tried to resist his thirst. It seemed pointless, but he did have his guard gather a few 'visitors' for them. They would not allow anyone to hunt within their walls it was forbidden. Aro had spent to much time convincing the humans to think Volterra was free of vampires. Quiet the opposite, but it was needed. Aro was more concerned about making sure his city appeared like there were no vampires. They had invented a few things to make humans feel at ease make them think they could harm a vampire. Ridiculous ideas, but they believe them. They needed to make sure the rest of the world was same. Make humans believe they were nothing more than a myth. Keep their existence a secret.
Aro grew even more curious as Carlisle told him he worked around humans. How one could resist? It seemed impossible, but Aro had never seen any need to resist. He had never come across a vampire who would want to resist their thirst, go against what they were. To feed off animals was something Aro would have certainly never thought of. I twas so different, so unusual. There was so much to learn! "You must have a strong resistance to be able to go against who you are. I have never met anyone like you. It most certain is interesting. It appears I have so much more to learn. More than I had ever thought." Aro loved learning and wanted to know everything. New ideas was something he loved! But this was not something he had ever expected.
"I most certainly to insist, my friend! There so much that we can both learn. So many possibility I had never imagined!" Aro loved meeting new vampires and even more so when he learned so much in return. Even if this vampire did not have a talent he most certainly did open so much more. There was untold amount of information he could learn from this vampire. He was so very interesting. Animal blood. Aro had never thought of it. He paid little attention to animals he far to many other things to worry about. Power being the main one. Though there were other concerns his wife, their existence, the guard, talents, their control, other vampires, the list could go on and on!

"Not once," and that was something that Carlisle was extremely proud of. He doubted that any other vampire in existence could say that, as from what he could already tell it was extremely rare to be a vegetarian. The doctor seemed to be the only vampire that did that and had the restraint of working around humans and their spilled bloods. He hardly even thought about the scent of the blood anymore, it was there still but he hardly even noticed it.
A strong resitance to the pull of human blood was something that Carlisle most certainly did resist. It had been harder in his first years, and he hadn't been able to work around the spilled blood. Though he had managed well enough at first, holding his blood as treating some patients. All of the pain in his throat was practically gone, unless it had been two weeks or more since he had last hunted. It could be bothersome then, but he still was able to resist from killing any humans.
"Since you insist," Carlisle murmured agreeing to the invitation. Though, nonetheless he did not want to appear as a burden amongst them. That was just his natural nature, to help others and put others first before himself. Though that was much easier as a vampire since he had all of the time in the world to do something. That didn't change his levels of compassion since he had became a vampire, but if any thing increased how compassionate he was.

Aro had never met a vampire who had resisted human blood. Someone who would go completely against their nature. It was truly fascinating. It was a bit difficult to believe as well. How or even why someone would want to go against what they were. How someone could resist human blood even as a newborn. Aro had much to learn ti seemed. Aro loved learning and this was something he needed to know more about. Newborns tended to be controlled by their thirst and yet this vampire had never had a drop of human blood. How was such a feat possible? Aro himself as a newborn have given in to his thirst several times. He had killed many humans and did not learn control for several months nearly a year as almost every vampire did. It was unusual for a vampire to have control so early and even more so to never have human blood. Aro could honestly say he had never thought of such a possibility happening.
More importantly what reason would one have for resisting? Most certainly they did not care for human life. Such a ridiculous reason. Aro did not care much for humans and saw them more as an annoyance than anything. They were needed, of course, but they did cause some problems. Problems that had started with the Romanians. They had allowed humans to know of their existence. And even now centuries, millenniums afterwords they were still trying to reverse what humans thought. Make them believe humans were nothing more than a myth, a story. They were far to suspicious, but luckily they believed in nearly anything they were told. They had so easily believed them when they told them about human materials that could harm them. All tricks to make them feel at ease and more so to make them believe that Volterra was safe from vampires. The very reason for Saint Marcus Day.
Aro smiled at Carlisle. "Why of course, my friend, there is so much to learn!" Aro was very curious about learning more about this vampire and his unorthodox lifestyle. It was so very curious! "I am most certainly curious about your way of life. It is so different. I have never dreamed of such a lifestyle and have seen so much." Aro had lived for nearly three thousand years there was very little he had not seen, but this, this was something that surprised him and made him all the more curious. "I want to know so much my young friend! Why do you choose to live off the blood of animals?" Aro had an idea that it was because of humans, but that was ridiculous. Why should one care about humans or their life they were simply their to sustain them.

Why was most certainly a much harder question for Carlisle to explain. It was obvious - even to him - that human blood would have tasted much better. But, still, he lived off of the blood of animals that kept his eyes a shade of gold depending on his thirst. Though, one reason he was sure. Drinking off of the blood of animals made him feel much more humane that from what he had seen of other vampires that stuck to the traditional diet of a vampire.
"Why is a harder thing to explain," Was the first thing that Carlisle explained. He was not quite sure how to put it into words where it would be more understandable to human ears. It probably had to do with the fact his father had been a pastor and he had been passed down the responsibility to continue his job when he had gotten older. He still was unsure how exactly to explain it, which left him with a dilemma. After a moment of his first statement, he continued.
"I suppose I could say that it helps keep my more humane side intact. When I first attacked an animal I wasn't quite thinking at all, I hadn't had a drop of blood for months after I was changed until then. I realized that I didn't have to live off of the blood of humans, and that it was much easier just to feed off of animals and live without too much guilt." Guilt got to Carlisle easy, which helped him stay motivated onto the animal blood diet.

Aro simply smiled at Carlisle. At times it was easier to understand one's thoughts than have them explain. Aro would wait and see how Carlisle explained this if he could. Perhaps reading his thoughts would allow Aro to understand much more. Aro was fairly certain it would. It allowed him to understand and learn so much more. He would get the entire story rather than just what one told him. It was so very useful. Aro could understand exactly why Carlisle choose this unorthodox way of life. Understand stand his choice perhaps a bit more. Much more than Carlisle could explain. Aro was so very curious to find everything out. To understand. It seemed ridiculous to Aro to turn against one's nature. To deny one's thirst for such a long time. This made Aro even more curious to see what Carlisle would tell him.
Aro was a bit surprised why anyone would want to try and be human. Aro was not to fond of humans. After all they were only there to sustain them and perhaps be changed if they were lucky enough. Aro would have a few humans change himself if they would prove to have some talent. Some use that would allow him to have more power. Aro loved power. He loved his position and his control. And Aro loved to allow others to know who exactly he was and the power he had. He would do anything to gain more power. Aro turned his attention once more to Carlisle. He listen to him as he explained his reason. "You would feel guilt for killing a human?" Aro asked he was bit skeptical. After all it was just a human there was no reason to feel guilty. It was in one's nature to kill humans it's what they were made for. It helped them survive be able to focus on much more important matters than their thirst.
"Ah, my young friend, there is certainly so much more to your story. So much I am missing." Aro wanted to know exactly what he was thinking when he was changed. "You see I have a talent that is most useful. I can know your every thought. Allow me to know exactly what happen. I so love knowing everything. Perhaps you would allow this?" It wasn't like anyone could really deny his request. If he wanted to read one's thoughts he did. Of course he usually asked if they were innocent of any wrong doing. So many would break the rules and Aro would read their thoughts on occasion know exactly what happen. And afterward destroy them sometimes even himself. Aro was excited with the chance to read this young vampires thoughts it would so very interesting!

"Yes," though guilty might be an understatement about how horrible Carlisle would have felt after killing a human. It went against all of his morals, and he could never truly picture himself as a real blood thirsty monster. He had been too compassionate in his past life to even think of just killing a human and getting it over with. It would be a horrible thing, something he could not imagine. Some vampires it appeared it just suited them well, while others like himself were harder to see.
That was true, there were a lot of things that were too complicated for Carlisle to put in words. The ways he had tried to kill himself were easier, as he wasn't quite as ashamed of that. He had denied his nature completely, gone against the way of living to keep his morals intact. To him a vampire killing a human was no different than a human killing a human, it was just completely wrong. Many, probably all other vampires, would disagree with that and he was okay that he thought differently of humans.
Ability? That was certainly interesting. Carlisle hadn't thought about having an extra ability as a vampire, though highly doubted that he had one. "Of course," he answered wanting to be polite. He was a definite people pleaser, always putting others wants and needs before his own, unless he would end up killing someone if he did sustain his thirst or something of that sort.

Aro was uncertain why any one would feel guilty for killing a human. It was in their nature to kill them it was apart of who they were. How they survived. Their throat burn for the need of blood. Aro had never thought they could live off the blood of animals. The thought had never crossed Aro's mind. He had never thought there would be any one who would want to go against their nature. To not hunt humans was so strange, so unusual. And even more to feel guilty for hunting humans. The thought alone was completely ridiculous to Aro. This was most certainly a first. Something he had never dreamed of coming across. There appeared to be so much to learn, much more than he had ever thought.
Aro smiled pleased Carlilse would allow him to read his thoughts. He was so very curious. He felt guilty for killing humans, but Aro wanted to know so much more. His reasons behind this. Why he felt guilty. And even more about Carlisle in general. He would know everything with one simple touch. His talent was so very useful at times. It allowed him to know so much. Aro was always so very curious and was always wanting to learn. He wanted to know about Carlisle’s way of life it was different. He was curious as to why the animal’s blood changed his eyes to a golden topaz. He suppose it would appear more human. It would allow one to be around humans more easily, but still. To deny the thirst of human blood?
Aro would have so many of his questions answered with one simple touch. Aro walked toward Carlisle to where he was only a few feet away. Of course Aro did not go alone. The entire guard that had been surrounding him moved with him. Aro was certain Carlisle meant no harm, but it was expected. They could not risk anything happening. Aro held out his hand for Carlisle to touch. He was excited about knowing this young vampire’s thoughts knowing his exact reason, his life, everything!
