Challenge Twenty-Five: Something Else What if Aro had been changed into a werewolf?
A Need for Control
All Aro wanted was power, control. And he had gained it. He was in control of the village. Their may have been a few 'accidents' on the way to gain this, but it was his. Nothing could stand in his way. Aro loved the ability to tell others what to do. To be able to do what he wanted. But was this really enough? No, of course not. Aro wanted more. He wanted more power. He craved it. He wouldn't stop at gaining this village no he would gain more. He wanted to be at top. He wanted to be the leader of it all. But how would one go about this? Certainly he would have to have those that were loyal to him. He could have no betrayal. But how to be certain? Aro could not know everything his men have done. Not know if they were thinking of betraying him. He had no idea. He would have to trust them. Keep a close watch on them. While at the same time thinking the worse. Be prepared if they were to betray him. He would prove anyone who thought of going against him would suffer. He would kill them himself if he must. He has killed before it wouldn't be to difficult. Perhaps a few demonstrations is what was needed. After all he would do anything for power.
Aro was out with a few of his most trusted men. They were traveling seeing what more they could gain. What was around them. Night had fallen before they could reach their home. A few of the men were frighten, it was ridiculous to Aro, because there was a full moon out tonight. Aro had heard the legends, the stories of werewolves and even vampires, but he did not believe them. He had been around for nearly thirty years and still yet to see one. Some were superstitious, but there were times when he would pause to think about it. The howls he would hear during a full moon. The mysterious disappearance of some of the villagers. Only to find their bodies completely drained of any blood. But Aro had tried to come to some logical reason or simply not focus on such thoughts.
All around them their seemed to noises. Intensified a trick of the mind nothing more. The cracks of branches altered them over and over. The howl of a wolf sounded through the woods it seemed to echo. Aro glared at the dark woods. The only reason for this fear was because of the moon. Because of the stories they have been told over and over. Aro glanced at one of the men, Adamo, he had claimed to have seen a real werewolf. Claimed he barely escaped with his life before something had stopped the wolf. He didn't stay long enough to find out. But he supposedly heard the sound of something being ripped apart as he left. Aro glanced back at the woods as the sound of something approaching became louder and louder. Aro rose to his feet quickly as did the rest of the men as a huge wolf came out of the woods. The animal's eyes appeared completely out of control. This was a beast that would kill them all. But it was so much more than a wolf Aro knew right aware what he was facing. The legends he had thought of as nonsense were real. The reality that somehow all along he knew he had been wrong crashed down.
The werewolf wanted to kill them. They had no means to escape. They would be killed here tonight. All of Aro's dreams to gain power, all his hopes to become the most powerful were quickly fading. Unless they could somehow defeat this creature. The chances were slim. Near impossible. Aro was determined not to let his life end here. He had work to hard to achieve what he wanted. How could he let some animal defeat them? True, it was much more than some animal there had to be some way, some way to survive this. They were hunters they had hunted wolves before. It shouldn't be to difficult. Aro grabbed one of the spears and aimed it at the massive wolf giving orders to the men to do the same. The animal attacked back his eyes focused on Aro and him alone. As he was the one brave enough to attack to try and kill him. The men fought back to prevent their leader from being killed, but not before he was bitten. Not before it was to late. The werewolf left Aro had about a dozen men he couldn't possible fight them all off. But perhaps there had been another reason for this. Aro was uncertain what would happen. He had heard that if bitten one would change, but was it true? It was dark none of them had been paying much attention when Aro had been bitten. He hid it. After all many would have had him killed than have him change, but it may not be true. They returned to the village the following morning. A few had been killed and news of what happen spread like wild fire. Didyme, Aro's sister, was instantly concerned and question him. Aro was calm, calculated she had no reason to worry.
- - - - One Month Later - - - -
Everything had gone smoothly since the attack. Everyone seemed to recover and were slightly fearful to travel such a distance again. Aro disapproved, but would not force them on a full moon again. After all he didn't want this to happen again. It had been exactly a month. Aro had looked at the sky each night watching the moon. Fearful. The night before it had been close to a full moon. Aro was certain tonight would be the first full moon since his attack. Since he was bitten. Aro stayed indoors he wouldn't see anyone as the sun slowly began to sink. Aro had no idea if he would lose control. If he would be a monster. Aro kept glancing out the window in his room. The sun was setting so very slowly. Teasing him making him tense up ever slightly as the last rays of the sun touched him. Aro breathed heavier fear gripping him. He didn't want to be an out of control creature. He didn't want to be rules by the need these creatures felt. Maybe he was over reacting maybe there was no curse as some called it.
As the moon rose Aro felt himself change. The control he desperately craved slipped. There was nothing he could do to stop it. He would become an animal ruled completely on instinct. He would feel the need to kill. He would be a monster without control. He would kill anyone in his way. This was something Aro knew to be true. It's what he learned about such creatures. Stories he was told. He was no longer human. He was Child of the Moon. Doomed to be out of control at the moon's calling. There was no going back. There was nothing he could do to stop this. He would kill he would be out of control. His plans for power, his need for power slipped. How could he have power without control? He would not be the Aro everyone had known. He would not want power. All he wanted was control. The control he use to have the calm he should have. But that would forever be out of his reach. He would never again have the craving for power. How could he keep what he had without control? The last thing Aro remembered was the moon's soft glow before everything went black.
