It was an odd time to come to the library, but Jasper knew that and it was why he had chosen this time of day in particular. There were not many people here . . . not many humans. A few were still present of course, but not as many as there could have been. Who wants to come to a library on a Friday evening? It was open late, but most people were out doing other things, reading not defined as one of the them. Jasper was not the same. He loved reading. He would spend hours at end in his study, but today . . . he felt like coming here.
He stood in one of the many aisle's, and began skimming through the spines of the books, looking for a certain one. He was working on a new project, a new book -- as writing was a talent of his that remained hidden from most -- . He needed to do research for this book though, and that was how he found himself at the library tonight. There was a human nearby, he could smell them . . . her. Hopefully she would not come to this aisle . . . then again, surely Jasper could handle one human, considering he dealt with dozens on a daily basis at school. He would just do his best to ignore then, and concentrate on his latest novel.

It was hard to find civilization in a small town. The excuse of the internet annoyed Rachael when it came to research. She liked the feel of books in her hands, and after using up the information in the books of La Push, the unmarried Rachael Black (who was two months pregnant) had driven the ten minutes needed to reach Forks, and the small library there.
She turned to walk down one isle and stopped, seeing a rather tall blond man. She gave him a polite smile, and muttered a soft 'excuse me' and walked past him further down the isle. She keep walking down the walk way until she came to the W's and she stood there for a moment looking for the books she wanted.
After a few moments, she saw them. . . on the top shelf. She gave a soft sigh and stood on her toes and tired to reach them. No luck. Blushing, she turned to look at the tall man, "Pardon me, sir, would you mind reaching some books for me?" She asked while watching to see if he minded. ((Icons not of my own making. Jasper had fully intended to completely ignore the human, but when she spoke to him, asking for a book, he felt slightly rude for completely ignoring her. He had not even noticed her enough to see that she had been struggling to get a book. Jasper, being the gentleman that he was, obliged.
When he went closer to her, he then realized why her scent had been tolerable and why he had not plotted to kill her when they were in this secluded area of the library, or why he had not ran away, unable to control himself. She smelled like wolf. The mixture of human blood and wolf gave off an interesting smell, or stench rather. Perhaps she was not as difficult to endure as Jasper had initially thought. She was from La Push, most definitely. But how was she affiliated with the wolves who resided there?
"Which ones did you need Ma'am?" He asked politely, as he was now standing right next to her, prepared to simply raise his arm the slightest bit to reach the books on the higher shelf, unreachable to her.

Rachael almost took a step back, as if somehow her inner works told her to be afraid, but polite manners wouldn't let her. "The books, along the top, anything by Leonard Whitlock, please. If he has more then one, could you hand me all of them?" She pointed and her fingers only came to the bottom of the 2nd shelf. She could have climbed but being she was pregnant, she was avoiding things like that. She wasn't going to risk losing her babies, no matter how much she loved the writer. Jasper looked at when she named the author. The author who was . . . him. Interesting indeed. He did not know that people actually read his books, and so it gave him great pleasure to see someone so interested in his written works. She wanted all of them. Was she a fan? She liked his writing? Maybe it was for a school project . . . but still. Seeing someone express interest in his books was a rewarding feeling indeed.
He averted his gaze to the top shelf, not wanting to stare at her for too long, though he was still surprise by the books she wanted. He reached up, and took two down. "These both are his more earlier works. Were you looking for the factual texts, or historical fiction?" Jasper had just started writing more historical fiction, though it was not fiction. It was experiences either he, or someone he had known had gone through. But that was many many years ago. No one would truly believe him.
Jasper reached up and got another one down. "These are solely historical factual books." He felt like he was talking about himself in third person. "Are you particularily interested in this author, or merely the subject he writes about for I am sure there are other books here regarding similar content." Sort of. Jasper was talking a bit too much, he was just so very excited to see someone reading his book. He had to ask questions about it.

That was shocking! She smiled up at him, excited that someone knew about one of her favorite authors. "Are you a follow fan?" She asked while taking the books from him. "Actually, I own a few of his more recent works, the older ones are harder to come by." She explained, "Normal I enjoy reading for pleasure, and he is very good, makes you think your there, or he was there. However this time, I am needing to do some research, and though to brush up on his histories of the civil war, and make shift armies."
She blushed, "I am trying to write my own about the sub cultures of make shift armies, and how you can find such armies, or, street gangs, in almost every town in the world." She explained. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

A fan. That was quite amusing, but Jasper with held a smile. She was a fan? He had a fan?! He wanted to blurt out that he was the author . . . but he obviously could not do that. "His older works are quite scarce. Their availability is especially difficult here in Forks, but it is quite nice to see some of his collection here in the library. Though they are still not what the general public is interested in." Jasper did not write for the glory, or the money . . . he wrote because it had always been a passion of his. He wrote to share his experiences with others, and to educate them about the truth of war and what soldiers had been through -- those who had been at war longer than he had.
"Your idea is quite intriguing," he told her, passing her a couple of the books. He would love to offer some help, but maybe that would seem odd as he did not want to look like an expert. He did not consider himself an amazing writer . . . but rather a decent one, decent enough to get published. "The world does not learn from history. They merely progress with society to find more advanced methods of battle, and creation of armies." He really wanted to read her book.
"Are you planning to send it to a publisher?" Some people only wrote for themselves, others wrote for only a few people, and of course there was the possibility that she was doing it for a class, he wanted to know who she was writing for. It would perhaps sound too bizarre if he randomly asked if he could read it when she was done. After all, they had just met.

"Oh, I want to!" She said sounding excited about the idea of having something published, "But it might be hard, you were right when you said it wasn't something the general public enjoys. Still. . . . I like to explain things, and perhaps someone will be forced to read my book, and get something out of it. . . maybe."
"And I agree, today's gangs and mafia, when compared to older make shift armies, or even, to older tribe warriors, never learned from the past, only try to go at it stronger and harder in order to come out the one on top." [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

"I am quite certain it would be well regarded by those who read it, and wish to educate themselves by reading something constructive." He wanted to encourage her to publish it. "I for one would be honored to read a book with such an intriguing subject." That was his way of sort of asking her if he would be able to read it once it was completed. He did not want to pressure her . . . but he was rather interested. "Do not be so sure that no one will be interested."
"It is a shame really. There is a very good reason why peace has not flourished, and why there are constant wars in the world today. You are covering a very large subject . . . I could be glad to refer you to similar texts if you are in need of further research."

"I agree, peace would be wonderful but until everyone can coexist then it's not going to happen. It's just other cultures, but with in sub cultures too. You find war and violence in almost every romance book because the majority of people, who have never seen war, think the idea of it it fun." She disagreed.
Rachael smiled, "This is going to sound very forward of me, but. . . would you like to read my first chapter and tell me what you think of it? I am worried that it begins to slow, and people might put it down with out finishing it." [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Jasper agreed with what she was saying. "War is not romantic, nor is it something that should be taken lightly. Those who do not truly understand the extent of it, treat it as an entertainment tool." That upset Jasper. It was one thing learning about wars, it was another to make jokes about it and not realize the full severity of them. Jasper smiled. Yes . . . he smiled in front of a human. For one of the first times, the conversation he was currently having with her was enough to distract him from her scent . . . that, and the fact that she partly smelled like wolf, but still! "I would be honored to. I was debating asking permission to read an excerpt of your novel. I realize that some authors are very private with their writing. But it would be my pleasure to read it, and I will be critical and as honest as I can be." He wanted her to know that he would not read it and just remain nice to spare her feelings. Writing was an aggressive field . . . though Jasper did not like criticism, he received quite a bit of it through his process of publishing his books.

"Thank would be wonderful!" She said, and glanced behind her. "The computers here are slow, but for something as simple as word, then it should be fine. Do you have time now, or should I e-mail it to you later?" She asked not wanting to be to pushy but how often did one cross someone who WANTED to read something like this. (Paul was a dear but he was more 'violence is funny' and Rachael's books were more. . . . not)
Looking back at Jasper, "I would also, love any recommended authors you offered me. If I can't find them here, I plan a drive into the city in a few days and I can check there."[/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

"I am not busy now. Do you have a few moments, or are you in a rush to retrieve the books and leave?" Jasper did not sleep. He could stay here all night if they did not close. Jasper was extremely excited to see what she wrote. No one else in his family was a writer, and it was not every day he had a full conversation with a human. Usually, he just stared at them and mentally plotted their murder.
"I will see what I have at home, and will compile a list for you. But in the mean time . . . " He pulled down a few more books and held on to them. "These ones. I can take them for you since I would not want you to be burdened with too many texts. But they contain information along the same lines as the works by Leanord Whitlock. Their writing style is a little more simplistic, so perhaps it is easier to follow and not as much of an intense read."

"I have time now!" She was excited about him reading her word. . . .or anyone reading it. "Hmmm, No, I like Mr. Whitlock's way with words. It's not the same every day words your used to hearing. Some writers use small, everyday words over and over and it's great. They are amazing writers, but Whitlock uses words and grammar that you don't expect to hear or read. It makes it seem more real when he is writing about civil war armies, and things he couldn't have known about from experience." [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Her compliments about his writing style were so refreshing. He had to stop himself from thanking her. That would sound odd indeed. "I see that you approach his texts from a very analytical point of view. I am sure he would have appreciated the thought you put into his novel, simply by reading it." He was. Leonard Whitlock was very appreciative. "Allow me to take those for you," he said, motioning to the books by him she was holding, so that they could make their way to the computers.

He was such a gentleman! "Thank you." She handed them more, more cause it was polite then any weakness, but was also glad not to carry the weight. She started walking down the aile and over to the computers, digging in her bag for her flash drive. She pulled it out and sat down on the computer chair at the end of the aile so they could have room. "My name is Rachael Black." She didn't offer her hands since he had all the books. He followed her as she led the way to the computer of her preference. When she introduced herself, he was thankful that the books were still in his arms for he did not want to shake her hand. It was nothing personal of course, he just preferred not to have any physical human contact . . . that, and his hands were ice cold so she may assume he was sick or something along those lines. "It is a pleasure to meet you Rachael. My name is Jasper," he said with a polite smile, still holding the books but slowly putting them down so it did not look like he was stalling. Once they were set down, he went to pull up another chair and sat next to her. Well, sort of next to her. There was a fair bit of distance between them, but not enough to display any sort of implication that he had a problem with her. Had he still been human, and if he was still meeting her for the first time . . . it would have been a comfortable distance between them.

Rachael was bringing up word, and plugging in her flash drive, when he spoke so she looked over her shoulder and smiled, "It is a pleasure to meet you Jasper." Then she looked back at what she was doing. Once it was up, she moved out of the way. "I will be right back, take your time." She looked around before talking to the ladies room. Her first chapter was an opening, explaining what the book was going to be about and some references and other authors who had inspired her. It sounded more like an informative 'acknowledgment' then a chapter one. Her words and grammar were thought over, and the layout had a few wholes where she edited something out but didn't go back to make it flow.
It spoke of the her experience with watching small gangs in both big cities and small towns. How alike she found them in some ways, and yet how different they try to make them selves. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Once the document was opened, Jasper was immediately engrossed in it. Her writing style was excellent, her content -- though most of it was words of recognition -- was well worded and was not tedious to read. He read each word carefully, and found himself looking forward to reading more. He found that what she had completed thus far was not enough, and that was the mark of a good author: one who made you want to read more and more.
He smiled once he was finished, and found himself reading it again, this time, with a more analytical viewpoint and perhaps he could offer her some tips and suggestions. But for the most part, he had enjoyed it. While he waited for her to return, he continued to read it, as enthusiastically as he had the first time around.

Rachael washed her hands, and looked in the mirror. She had walked away to let him read it alone, since watching him would be harder on her. She let the cool water, run over her wrist so that it made the heat of the blushing less. She picked up a towel, dried her hands, and used it to turn off the sink, and open the door before tossing it in the trash and walking slowly back to join Jasper. She sat down silently in the chair she had used, and waited to see his reaction with a nervous smile on her face. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Jasper distracted himself from her scent as he felt it getting closer and closer. The fact that the library was such an open space helped a little . . .but not much. Thank goodness he had her book to distract himself with, for that proved to be a far more successful distraction. Once she was seated her turned to her, and gave her a polite smile. "I am very impressed with your work," he began. "It is very intriguing, and your writing style is easy to understand, while it also remains very sophisticated. The ideas you present are clear, and you did not fill it with needless jargon." He looked back at the computer screen, skimming through a few things before turning to her once again.
"If I may offer one slight criticism, though I am certain you are aware of it for you still seem to be in the editing process. Perhaps a few more transitions would help the sentences run together more smoothly. But apart from that, it is indeed an excellent start to what I am sure will become a well written, well thought out book. It is very engaging, for I am already looking forward to reading more." Jasper had never spoken so much at once, to a complete stranger . . . to a human no less.

Rachael felt her self blush and blush hard. "Thank you." She said and then paused and looked down before speaking again. "I am still editing, but thank you for being honest. Most people read it and tell me they love it because they want to spare my feelings." She admitted "That makes it harder to get honest opinions." She looked back up at him with a embarrassed smile, but still proud at the same time. She liked that a stranger liked her work. "It's no Whitlock but I have hopes of getting better with time. The only way to learn is by doing, yes?" [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

"I believe criticism in necessary for any sort of text you write." Jasper had to go through many criticisms when he sent his books to publishers, and while at times it bothered him, he had grown used to it and preferred that he gain some insight on how to improve, rather than just be told that his work was good, every single time. "If no one gave useful criticism, then how would one ever improve their work. Sparing feelings does not help. I for one, would prefer brutal honesty rather than lies with good intentions."
Jasper could not believe he was talking this much to a stranger. Alice would hopefully be impressed with his developing 'social' skills. "Precisely. I am certain that wherever Mister Whitlock is, he would appreciate your work. It is written with the same sophistication." Jasper knew that first hand. He knew that Leonard Whitlock was very impressed indeed.

She liked that he would compare her work to Whitlocks! Or at lest say the author out like it. It made her shoulders square a little, and pride fill her. It was a modest pride but still one that make her feel better about her writing. She liked his Jasper person. She wasn't sure of his last name, but she didn't want to press. "You are most welcome," he answered politely. Jasper thought that her next question quite ironic, so he had to suppress a chuckle. "In some ways." He did not want to flat out lie to this woman, but if she asked questions that begged for detailed responses, then he would have to. It was not worth exposing his old age to her. "I greatly enjoy writing, and critiquing. Though I would not have the credentials to critique something, for my opinion is that of an amateur -- " Which was partly true since Jasper did not consider himself an overly successful author "However, I do like writing. It is a wonderful expression of one's thoughts and opinions, whether it be approached from an analytical or straight forward, simple view point." His abundant talking continued to surprise him. "What other sort of novels do you enjoy reading?"
