Charlie was not one to show his excitement with large smiles and tons of words. He had gotten up early, showered and dressed. While he had time, his actions were slightly hurried. He got breakfast to go at a fast food place along the way, which allowed him to eat and drive. It was one of the few times, Charlie did not try to set a good example for the towns people.
Since he had gotten up early and hurried, Charlie beat the plan there by 45 minutes. He sat in the waiting room, not flipping around in any magazines or books. There was a TV on and he watched parts of new casts on, but mostly he waited.
Today was a big deal to Charlie, even if he did not look excited. Today his only daughter, Isabella was coming on the plan. She would be in Forks for the first time in three years, and this time it would not be for a summer vacation. It was to stay. Bella was coming home.

Bella sighed again as her mother told her she didn't have to do this. Bella had told her she wanted to. Usually she was bad a lying, but she had been telling this lie it almost sounded real now. Bella was moving from Phoenix to Forks, she absolutely detested Forks. But this was going to be for the best, she thought. Her mother was unhappy having stay away from Phil, her step-father, so she decided to move to Forks with her father. She hadn't been in Forks in three years when she was fourteen she finally put her foot down and demanded she spend her two weeks with Charlie somewhere else it had worked for a time. But now she was moving the green rainy down and hated it. But she wanted her mother to be happy and be with Phil and she knew Charlie would be happy since she was moving in with him.
It had been a long trip she didn't have much just what she had in her winter cloths and that wasn't much. Bella got off the train and could see her father waiting for her. She smiled slightly at seeing her father despite not wanting to be here.

When the plan landed Charlie got up and walked slowly over to where everyone was waiting. Outwardly he appeared clam but in side Charlie was happier then he had been in a long time. Bella was here. Here to stay, with him, in Forks. He had told everyone he passed that she was moving home, after she called and told him.
When he saw her, he gave a short wave and wondered if that was allowed. Kids often hated parents waving at them in public, so Charlie cut his short glad he wasn't drawing attention to him self. "Hey ya Bells." He said as if it had been a few hours and not a year since he had last seen her. "Want me to get your luggage for you?" He didn't know if she should ask her how her flight was, or what. He figured he'd save it for the car ride.

"Umm, sure dad," Bella said when Charlie offered to carry her luggage. It wasn't much as she didn't have much winter cloths she was going to have fix that. But she had saved up most of her money to buy a car. She didn't want to have Charlie drive her around in his police cruiser nothing slowed down traffic like a cop. Bella smiled at her father trying to at least appear happy to be here.
That was far from the truth she did not want to be here, she did not want to move to Forks. But it would be for the best and that was shy she was moving her to please her mother and father. She knew her mother would be okay she did some crazy things on occasion but she had Phil to take care of her no reason to worry.

"You didn't bring allot of clothes." Charlie noted, and only spoke up about it because he did not want to go shopping with her. Hours in girl stores, when he could be fishing or watching the game made him want to cringe. "Is this all of it?"
The cruiser was parked with in sight and he knew it would all fit. He had wondered if he should drive the truck he had gotten her, so he would have room for her things, but wanted to leave it for a surprise.

"Yeah dad that's all," Bella replied. She knew it wasn't a lot and she would have to go shopping to add to her cloths. She was dreading the next day starting at a new school. Forks was a small town she didn't think she would be able to fit in Phoenix was ten times the sizes of this small town and she didn't fit in there so her chances her were low as well. But she was doing to make everyone happy she wouldn't ruin it for anyone else.
Bella saw the cruiser and she was going to have to get a car. She had some money saved up, but not much for anything to fancy. She didn't want to have to ride in the cruiser she loved Charlie and all, but she could do without that.

Charlie loaded her bags in the back of the cruiser after walking with her to the car in silence. Bella had never been one to ramble allot and try to talk his ears off and he was very glad of that. He shut the trunk and slid into the drivers seat. Once Bella was in as well, Charlie turn the key and started them off on the hour drive home. "I found a good car for you, real cheap."
He had not wanted to have to drive her to school every morning, knowing kids hated to be seen with parents. He wasn't slow and knew Police Chief parents would be harder. When Renee said Bella had saved up for a car, Charlie had taken it as a hint.

"Oh, dad you didn't have to do that!" Bella was completely surprised. "I had been saving up money to get one." At least now Bella would have some extra money to keep it going. She smiled at her father actually happy about this one thing.
Bella had picked up the words 'real cheap' and 'a good care for you.' "How cheap is cheap?" Bella questioned her father. She was still happy, but wanted know how much he had spent on this car. That was a reasonable question wasn't it?

"Well, I sort of already bought it for you." He said thinking over the truck. It wasn't fancy but it was a good truck that would rub forever. "As a welcome home gift." He wondered if she would drive it or be one of the girls who though a fit because it was new and shinny. The truck was good to him but he knew he was looking at it from an old man's point of view.

"Thanks dad," Bella said excited to see her new car. After all she hadn't been expecting to get one for another week or so. And now she wouldn't have to worry about it. "What year is it?" Bella asked curious as to how old the car was. She knew it was nothing new after all he had said it was cheap. But how cheap was cheap he still did not tell her that part. Maybe it was to cheap. Bella didn't really care as long as it run good and got her from place to place that's all she was worried about.

Charlie had hoped she wouldn't ask. He also hoped he could side step her. "Billy has done allot of work on the engine, Bells, so it's in great shape, practically new." He hoped that would do the job. As they drove out of the medium size city into the long highways that lead to Forks, Charlie relaxed some. Bella was really here. Finally. She was home until she went to college. He wasn't the type to get excited and laugh, but he was excited. Even if he didn't show it.

"Practically new?" Bella question. He was avoiding her question and she knew it. It was probably an old car, but that wasn't so bad at least it was a car. She wasn't going to complain on how old it was he said it ran good so she would believe him.
Bella looked out the window of the cruiser it was going to be a long drive home, a whole hour. Bella wasn't much a talker, but neither was Charlie so it probably wouldn't be to bad. But tomorrow when she started school she was dreading.

"Yes. Billy, you remember Billy Black don't you. From La Push. We used to go fishing and you played with his daughters." Or had until they started staying home. "He is in a wheelchair now and can't drive. So he offered to sell me his truck cheap, and the thing runs great." Charlie had cleaned it up for her, and gotten new tires put on it as well but didn't bother telling Bella that. He didn't want to make a big deal about it.

Bella remembered Rachel and Rebbecca though they never really were much of friends. Forced together while Charlie and Bill went fishing. She looked at him when he said 'the thing' great. That was what it was called the thing. "Did he buy it new?" Bella asked he seemed to be avoiding that question. How old was it, the way he was going on about made her think the worse. Hopefully it would run good.
Bella turned her eyes away from her father looking a the landscape outside. So different from Phoenix she would miss the sun and the heat. Now she was headed toward rain and clouds.

Charlie resisted the urge to shift in his seat like a criminal or a uneasy teen. "No, I think he bought it used." The truck was from the 60's huge and bulky. Back they they were putting quality over how fast they could make it, or how many they could make. Even over how fast they could make it run. When Charlie had drove it the few times he had, (Fill it up with gas, to get the tires) the truck groaned at topping 50 or 55. It would be a good car for someone not used to driving in this weather. It would protect her.

"When did he get it?" Bella asked keeping her eyes focused on the road in front of her. She didn't know if she wanted to know how old the thing was. From the way Charlie was avoiding her question it was probably very old. Bella was sort of dreading hearing how old it really was. She glanced at her father he was looking a bit guilty, a bit uneasy. Bella quickly turned her eyes back to the road.
This ride already seemed to be long she knew it was going to be worse when she made it to Forks.

Charlie took in a deep breath and thought over his answer before giving her a "I believe he bought it in the late 80's." He said, avoiding the fact that it wasn't new when it was bought. The rain started to come down harder and Charlie turned up the wiper's speed. He was glad he had gotten her the stable and dependable truck. When the wet rain turned into the solid ice, it would protect her.
Charlie had done little else to prepare for Bella's arrival in Forks. He got her a truck, a computer for her room, new sheets. Renee had said for him to get the computer and hinted at the truck and sheets. 'Bella is used to warm nights, make sure her bed sheets are thick!' The sales lady had picked out the color. Charlie had just asked if they would keep her warm.

"How old was it when he bought it?" Bella asked her father. Knowing he was avoiding that question since she asked. Charlie said Billy bought it in the late '80s that seemed old enough to her. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad when he finally told her. But Bella wasn't going to complain that much it would get her from place to place and that's all she really cared about.
After all not much could make her happy in the small town of Forks. It would be one thing to make it more bearable.

"I think it was made in the 60's." Charlie answered hesitantly. "But the thing runs great!" He said trying to make it sound more appealing. The truck was a faded rust color but the engine was just fine. Charlie wouldn't give Bella anything that would leave her stranded, since he knew how much she hated the weather here. Charlie wasn't an idiot, he had a few ideas as to the whys, when it came to Bella moving here. None of them were him, or a love for small raining towns.

Sixties great, was all Bella could think. At least he said it run good and Bella would believe him, but still it was an old car. At least it was something to get her from place to place she supposed that was the most important thing. She wouldn't have to walk to school or ride in the police car with her father. That wouldn't be good. She was grateful. "At least it's a car," Bella replied smiling slightly. Glad he had finally told her how old it was, but not exactly thrilled with how old it was.

"It's better then a car. It's a truck. You can do things with trucks. . . " Not that Bella was a do things girl. Charlie might not know Bella well, but he remember enough that he knew Bella wouldn't be hauling anything around in the back. She was more of an indoor girl. Still the truck was safer for her. It was American made steel. Good stuff. Wide axles, and it sits up off the road. When the weather got bad the truck would be there for her. Heater worked good too, since Bella wasn't used to the cold.
"At lest the weather is nice for your first day here." he said. For Forks this light rain was nice weather.

A truck, well she suppose that was alright. It would still get her from place to place at least. "Thanks dad," Bella said looking at Charlie. She was trying to call him dad instead of Charlie like she often did. She looked out the window as Charlie commented on the weather. "Yeah I guess," Bella commented. Nice, wasn't what she would say. After all she was use the hot sunny Phoenix this was a big change. Where it would always rain. Bella was not looking forward to this move at all.
But it was the best right? Her mom would be happy, her father was happy to have her move in with him. She would suffer in silence and maybe no one would see how unhappy she really was.

Charlie couldn't think of anything else to say. He drove in silence for a little bit then turned on the radio to the sports game they were playing commentary on. He did keep it low in case Bella had anything to say. It was something he recalled about Renee. She made him keep the sound down. Shifting in his seat, Charlie knew it was going to be a long ride.
An hour after they had started, Charlie pulled the cruiser into his little drive way, near the truck. The house was small but it worked for a single man. It was home sweet home. "Welcome home Bells." He said, not for the first time.

One thing Bella liked about Charlie was that he didn't see the need to fill silence with pointless chatter. It was quiet drive home. She listen to the radio a little not really that interested in it. They finally hit the city limits of Forks. It was the same as before nothing had really changed.
Bella got out of the car as Charlie welcomed her home. "Yeah, home," Bella replied going to the trunk. She really didn't have that much packed. She grabbed a bag and looked at Charlie. This was going to be for the best she kept telling herself.

Charlie picked up most her bags for her out of the trunk once he had hurried to get out and beat her to them. "The truck over there is yours." He said as he lifted her suitcase, backpack and other bags out of the car trying to not make her do much work. "The key is up on your desk." It had a key chain on it that came from the reservation. Billy had bought it and put it on there, Charlie guessed.
"I'll take these to your room." He walked up the steps, and set a bag down getting the key from hiding place, then unlocking the door and heading on up. The house was cleaner then usual. Sue had insisted on dusting some before Bella came home. Charlie was glad for the help.

Bella looked over where Charlie said her truck was and smiled. It wasn't that bad looking and it looked like it would get her from place to place. "Thanks again dad," Bella said with a smile. She looked over at the house and her smile faded slightly. Home. This was going to her home until she graduated high school two years, or maybe sooner if Phil found a more permanent sign up. But either way she was going to be staying her for a while.
Bella walked inside behind Charlie it really hadn't changed that much since she was last here. She walked into her bedroom it was exactly the same when she was little. Nothing had really changed. Bella looked at her father unsure of what to say next.
