How could he have been so stupid? He was weak, he knew that much. But this . . . was completely unacceptable. He in no way should have let himself lose control like that. It was Bella. Of all humans, how could he have attacked Bella? He should know better than to have endangered her life like that. His lack of self control was no excuse . . . he needed to be stronger. He needs to learn to be stronger. Usually with Alice almost constantly by his side, he finds the serenity and peace he needs to peacefully coexist with humans . . . but once that smell was exposed and the scent of her blood was in the air . . . all peace . . . all logic . . . all humanity left him. Pure instinct took over and because of that, he nearly killed someone who was now considered to be family.
Jasper was alone -- for the time being -- in the room that was often described as his study. Was Bella still here? How could he possibly face her after he ruined this day . . . after he nearly killed her? As if that did not make him feel guilty enough, Alice had gone through all the trouble to make her birthday a wonderful one and with one horrible action, he ruined his wife's efforts. Though he knew she loved to do things like this . . . he was humiliated. Surely she deserved better than a husband who could not stop himself from attacking an innocent, helpless human. Bella was not only Edward's love . . . she was Alice's good friend.
Jasper stared mindlessly at the floor in front of him. He was seated in a chair in a stiff position. While the formality of his posture was there, he felt as if he was curled into a ball in the corner of the room. . . he felt as if the many years that Alice and Carlisle had helped him fight his self control were meaningless. Today . . . what he had done today . . . proved that their efforts were wasted on him. It proved that it may be impossible for him to change. And this thought . . . terrified him.--- Tag Alice ---

Alice was outside the house, taking in many gulps of air to erase the smell of Bella's blood. Once she got herself under control, she began to worry about Jasper. She knew he would feel guilty about this. Who wouldn't? Seeking to comfort her husband, Alice wondered back into the house, very caerful not to breath, incase the sweet smell of Bella was not gone. Closing her eyes slowly, Alice stood in the giant white house, seeing into the future. She saw Jasper in his study, and she immediately broke off without finishing and ran to the appropreate room.
To her sad relief, she found him in a chair, staring at the floor. Alice entered quietly, and closed the door behind her. Slowly, she walked up to her husband, sliding her arms gently over his shoulders from behind, as she said, "Jasper. It wasn't your fault." Alice then went quiet, and closed her eyes. Her head was now to the left of his, her chin resting on his shoulder. Her fingers interlocked infront of them both.
And yet this scene was a sad one.

Jasper did not need to look from his current staring position to know who entered the room. It was the one person that he wanted to see . . . and yet someone who he felt the most humiliated in front of. He did not look at her as she embraced him . . . but the instant comfort she provided was impossible to ignore. He slightly leaned his head against hers. Her assurance was hard to accept . . . though he never argued with his beloved wife. She would say something and he would believe it. But how could this not be his fault?
"I lost control." After years and years . . . he had finally lost control. How was he ever going to face Edward, and Bella . . . Carlisle, and Esme . . . his family who had so much faith in him and yet, he disappointed them all with one moment of weakness. "If I had not been restrained . . . " He did not want to finish that sentence, because the ending would have been a violent one.
He remained still, trying to maintain his composure. And while he appeared calm . . . he felt he absolute opposite inside. Alice's presence made it far more bearable. This was why he needed her.

Opening her eyes as he talked, his head leaning on hers, Alice said, "It happens to the best of us. Do not blame yourself. I know you have trouble, but I'm here to help you." Turning her head to the side slightly, she kissed his head, and then returned to staring forward. Alice did not blame Jasper. Nor did she think Bella would. This was just something they'd have to work on to make better. So there was no next time.
For a flicker of a second, Alice blamed the stupid paper she had used to wrap the present in. She probably knew better, Bella being Bella in all. Surpressing a gentle sigh, then smiling, Alice bent her elbows and hugged Jasper's neck softly. This was not his fault. This was not his fault. She believed this with all her heart, but did he?

"Not the best of us." His tone was not defensive, nor did he make it argumentative. It was simply a gentle statement . . . one which he firmly believed. "You are helping me Alice. However . . . do you ever feel that you are wasting your efforts on me?" He hated asking the question. He hated doubting that he would do anything but try to make her happy. However, honesty was never an issue with them and he felt that right now, more than ever, he had to be entirely honest. He had to speak his mind. She did not possess the ability that Edward did and so whatever doubts or qualms he had . . . he would vocalize them.
"No." Though it was a flicker . . . it pained Jasper that she felt any sort of guilt from the situation. "Do not blame yourself for any of this." He placed his hand on her arm. "It was in no way a fault of yours." While he did not know why or how she blamed herself, he would not let her feel that way . . . not when she had nothing to do with his aggressive actions.

Shaking her head, she said, "I know you don't mean yourself. You are the best." Alice kissed him again, and then again, went back to staring with him. A grin spread across her face as he admitted she was helping him. This brought great joy to her. Then it quickly left, and she frowned. Something Alice hardly ever did. "Feel. Wasted. Efforts?" she managed to choke out. How dare he? Never. Never did she think he wasn't worth her eternal life. He was her love, the only one she wanted. How could she feel she was wasting her efforts?
Shaking her head again firmly, Alice responded, "I'm hurt you even thought that Jasper. I never think I'm waisting my efforts on you. N-e-v-e-r." The girl finished letting the last word roll off her tongue.
Smiling to his last statement, Alice said, "I do not blame myself, but I think I should have used a box instead of paper. Bella will be Bella, I guess." Supressing a giggle at this, Alice hugged Jasper tighter. "Neither is it a fault of yours." Insisted his wife. She could not, and would not allow him to blame himself. Not for what was in his nature, and something he worked hard to keep under control. They worked against their nature, and therefore, this was hard for everyone. He needn't blame himself.

It was hard to feel so miserable when one was around someone like Alice. Even if he did not let her emotions influence him through his supernatural abilities . . . her uplifting mood was contagious. Though, he was still in a state of guilt and remorse. Her continuing embrace gave him strength that he needed . . . but her next words made him regret asking what he did.
He had hurt her. How could he have done that? How could he have offended her in any way? He had made so many mistakes today . . . and this one was not by any means trivial compared to the last. "Alice . . . " He was not even sure what to say to redeem his words. There was nothing he could say. He had upset her. He heard it in her voice . . . and he felt it from her. He would rather die a thousand times over than hurt her. He closed his eyes, her happiness returning . . . her joviality present once again. And yet, it did not erase what he had made her feel before.
He was at a loss of words. How could he have upset someone so wonderful? "Whether paper, box or plastic, I still should not have done that." His voice was low . . . his remorse great. With one swift motion, he lightly pulled Alice onto his lap. In public, though they often held hands . . . and were constantly at each others side [more so due to Jasper's need to be by Alice's side] . . . he did not truly relax and embrace her as often as he did when they were alone. Not because he was shy . . . but because he could not lower his guard unless it was just her. Every day, he struggled by being surrounded by so many humans. But every time he was just with her -- even if they were with their family -- he could fully relax and feel utterly at peace.
"I apologize if I have offended you Alice," he said sincerely, taking her hand into his own while wrapping his other arm around her. He looked down at their hands, still too ashamed to look directly at her.

Jasper swiftly set Alice in his lap, and she was more then grateful she was able to start cheering him up. It hurt her more than than pain to see him in grief and dispair. "Offend me? No. You could never offend me with such truth." A smile again made it's way across her face as she stared into his eyes. Their hands intwinned and she reached up to put her other hand around his neck.
As they sat together, Alice said, "You realize I won't let you blame yourself, right?" There was much humor in her voice as well as her eyes. She wouldn't let him blame himself you this, her stubborn side wouldn't allow it.

Despite every negative emotion within Jasper that prevented him from smiling, Alice's words allowed that prevention to crumble. He let a small smile form on his lips. Though he was not entirely happy . . . he was content. While he still felt guilty . . . he was assured. Regardless of the fact that he still blamed himself . . . he did not let it interfere with Alice's attempt to cheer him up. She was excellent at it, and never ceased to lighten his mood. It was one of the many qualities that had initially attracted him to her upon first meeting Alice. And it was something that over the several years of their marriage, never failed.
"You are quite stubborn. I suppose it is pointless to attempt to argue this any further." Again, he did not enjoy arguing with her. Perhaps that was why he always gave in to her. He wanted to see her happy and pushing her to the point of feeling hurt . . . or feeling as if she needed to justify herself, was something he could not allow to continue.
"Alice . . . what is going to happen now?" He was aware that his question had transformed their conversation from a more light one to a serious one yet again, but he had to know. Had he done something that would force them to move away? Or would they continue just the way they had before? How could they pretend like this had not happened? As much as Jasper wished he could, this was not something that could simply be ignored.

"Oh. Were we arguing?" Alice teased. She preferred to see it as a stubborn persuasion. Leaning against his chest, the girl said, "It would be best if we left for a while. Just you and me." Alice's golden eyes sparkled with excitement as she said this. She didn't need her vision to know getting away would benefit both Jasper and Bella. Kissing him soundly on the lips, Alice reluctantly got up and off his lap, pulling him with her with their inter twinned hands. They should leave now. It wasn't going to get any easier while staying here.

Jasper smiled once again. He hated to use the word 'arguing' when describing any conversation of theirs . . . but of course she was kidding. It made him feel less insignificant. Her next words both surprised him and yet they should not have. He expected that they would have to leave for a while. He thought their whole family would have to . . . but she was saying just them. Just the two of them. It sounded perfect. If Alice was not here, he would have no reason to be here. While he was excited for the time to clear his head, he was also a little reluctant because he was not completely certain it was what Alice wanted.
Before he had time to react to her words, he felt her intimate embrace and returned it all too willingly. He wrapped his arms around her, deepening the kiss for only a moment, before slowly pulling away . . . allowing the moment to last only a little longer. He looked into her beautiful topaz eyes as he kept his arms around her.
"Alice . . . are you sure this is what you want? I know how close you and Bella are. Are you certain you want to leave for a while?" He could not imagine leaving without her . . . but if she wanted to stay then he would gladly seclude himself in the house for months if it was necessary for the protection of others -- mainly Bella -- .

Staring back into his black eyes, Alice replyed, "You think I want you to leave without me?" Her eyes looked almost hurt. Maybe she was just misunderstanding. "Bella will be fine. She has Edward." A smile perked back up on her face. "Yes. Let's leave. We can even hunt on the way out of town." Concern filled her gaze as she regestered his hunger level. It wasn't healthy to let him get this way. Again trying to pull him along with her, Alice nodded briefly, as if encouraging him.

Jasper instantly understood the misinterpretation his words suggested. "No. Of course not," he quickly corrected. He was making so many horrible mistakes today . . . he needed to be more clear so that he would not hurt Alice any more. He hated feeling any sort of pain from her . . . and what was worse, was that he was the one causing it. He pulled her into a hug, lowering his head so that his chin was touching the top of her head.
"I just want you to be happy. If you want to stay here, I will hide away in seclusion to protect Bella. I do not want you to leave unwillingly." Bella was practically like a sister to Alice . . . he did not want to interfere with their friendship. The suggestion of hunting grasped Jasper's attention. His hunger level was difficult to ignore, though he had been doing a remarkable job considering he was distracted with trying to compensate for his poor choice of words.
"When are you prepared to leave Alice?" He was still reluctant about being the one to pull her away from a home she was so comfortable in . . . he would give her as much time as she needed. The guilt was overwhelming him once again, but he could not deny the happiness he also felt at the thought of going away with Alice . . . away from this chaos.

Alice faintly smiled as he said no, and then was pulled into a hug. She had not expected that, and so all she could do was hug him back. "Nope. I'm fine. Let's run away. Just me and you for a while." she repeated. There was a firm tone to her voice. She was going to go now, whether he wanted to keep her here or not. "I'm ready as soon as you are. Now would be good." Suddenly something hit it. He seemed, tense. Guilty maybe. Was she making him guilty?
Oh no! she thought. Pulling her head away from his body to stare into his black eyes. Alice said, "Am I making you feel guilty?!" Her voice was strained, for she could not bare for his answer to be yes. Embracing him futhur, she leaned her neck against his shoulder, and in his ear she whispered 'Sorry'.

The sound of just the two of them was more appealing as each second went by. Though they had an eternity forever . . . he cherished every moment they were together. "I am ready whenever you are. The sound of just the two of us . . . " It was perfect. But again, he needed to make sure it was what she truly wanted. Not something she was pressured to do.
As if she had read his mind . . . she vocalized a question, and it was not until she apologized for it that he felt even worse. "Alice, please do not apologize to me," he told her, locking his eyes into hers. "I am just concerned. It is not your fault that I feel this way. You are wonderful for suggesting exactly what I need . . . but I am selfish if I do not question whether it is something you want. I know how much you like it here. I know your relationship with our family."
It was his way of asking if she was certain. With Jasper . . . as much as he adored his family, he would leave in a heartbeat forever if it was what Alice wanted. He would not stay without her . . . and so leaving was not a problem for him. He had not developed as close ties to the others as she had.

"I know.." whispered Alice in response to his unfinished sentence. "I would give it all up for you though." Returned Alice, as she pulled away from his shoulder and gazed at him through her golden eyes. "So let's go. I am absoulutely positive we should leave for a little while. Besides.. It's not like we're never coming back." It was more like a 'vacation', than never coming back. And what Jasper needed, she needed, and therefore she wished he'd stop being so stubborn and see it.
Kissing him again passionately, Alice wrapped her arms around his neck, and then pulled away. "Shall we go?" There was a bright, excited smile on her face. She was ready, all that was left to do was get up and leave. Lifting herself from Jasper, Alice fetched a piece of paper and a pen and wrote;
'We went away for a while. We'll be back soon. ~Alice and Jasper'
Then, she returned to him, sliding back into his lap, waiting for him to be ready to leave.

He could feel the truth and sincerity of her words. He did not want to keep doubting with her . . . and debating whether this was truly what she wanted. He felt the truth in her tone . . . she would not lie to him, just as he would not lie to her. As if Jasper needed any more persuasion, the kiss was enough to settle the entire thing. He was prepared. More ready than he would ever be. He watched her write the note and convinced himself that she was truly happy.
The apparent excitement in her expression and within her was contagious . . . as Alice's emotions often were. How could he do anything else but follow her? "Thank you," he said in a soft voice, wrapping his arms around her once again in another hug. He was so grateful. How had he been so fortunate to be with someone so understanding and compassionate. "I love you." He spoke with as much sincerity as he could possibly vocalize, and kissed the top of her head as if to further demonstrate how much he cared for this woman in his arms. He stood up, keeping his arms around her as he let her feet touch the ground.
"I am rather certain you would like to go pack a few things." Alice loved her clothes and accessories. He would not take away the time she needed to pack them. He loved her enthusiasm for dressing up.

Nodding lovingly to her husband, Alice said, "I love you too." As the two got up, and Alice was put on the ground, she smiled wider. She had completely forgotton about her clothes and others things in her excitement. Running from the room, the girl headed towards their room in search of a bag and clothes. After rummaging in the closet, alice found a black leather back-pack. Quickly picking out her favorite dresses and shoes and such, Alice neatly placed them in the bag, zipped it up, and returned to Jasper in a matter of a few minutes. Her eager smile still planted firmly on her face.
Reaching out her hand for him to take, Alice left the note in Jasper's chair. "Ready?"

Jasper smiled as Alice bounded off to pack her things. He waited patiently in his study for her to return. He wanted to make this trip special for her . . . after all she did for him, he had to do something in return for her. Perhaps this could be a second honeymoon for them. They would not be like Rosalie and Emmett who had multiple weddings and multiple honeymoons . . . but there were couples out there who consider it normal to have two romantic trips with their loved ones.
He continued to smile as he took her hand and exited the room. "Do you have anywhere specific you would like to go?" He wanted to go somewhere she wanted to go to. He did not care where . . . as long as it was what Alice wanted.

[xD you spoil me to much!]
After grasping Jasper's hand, and the two exited the room, Alice began to think. Where do I want to go ....? Hm. Shaking her head, Alice replyed, "Not really. You?" The two left the house unnoticed, and Alice began skipping to the woods that surrounded their house. Alice didn't want anything to big, not for now. They could go to a deserted beach for all she cared, as long as she got to be with Jasper everything was already perfect. [aww lovey dovey xD]
Turning around to face him and walking backwards, Alice said, "Maybe we should hunt first." Aburptly changing her corse, Alice began walking to a better hunting zone. They would both feel better after feeding, and that would make this vacation that much more romantic. A sly smile slide across Alice's face as she thought of it.

Jasper had no ideas either. As long as it was out of Forks with her, he was happy. The thought of hunting was also something he was greatly looking forward to. The scent of Bella's blood had increased his thirst -- as if that much had not been apparent already by his actions --. As he once again recalled recent events, he masked the guilt he felt for now . . . he wanted to be better company for Alice. She had cheered him up, no doubt . . . he could not completely wipe away the regret he had for what he had done.
Keeping a hold of her hand, and taking her bag from her, he allowed her to lead wherever they were going to hunt. "What are you in the mood for doing in our vacation. Would you like to sight see . . . or shop," he suggested smiling as he commenced the planning of their mini vacation.

Shopping? pondered Alice. While it did sound tempting, it could wait. She did that all the time, and besides, Jasper needed to be away from humans at this point. Smiling, Alice replyed, "Do you want to sight see?" Her mind raced in all directions, considering a bunch of different places for the couple to see. The place that caught her eyes was actually the one she suggested earlier. A deserted beach.
It was starting to get dark when Alice said, "Would you like to go to a beach?" There was curiosity in her voice. It would be perfect, to find an empty beach, just for them.

As they wandered deeper into the woods to an ideal hunting ground, the possibilities of their trip caused great excitement in him. "That sounds wonderful. Not too sunny of a beach. Or one that is practically deserted." Of course they could not expose themselves in the sun. It was why an exotic, warm place was usually out of the question. There were too many crowds there. They would be able to go out at night . . . but they would have to remain indoors at all times. It was too much effort to hide who they were. May as well find a more relaxing atmosphere.

Smiling as Jasper began to agree and list off qualifications for the beach, Alice said, "Why not deserted? That way we have it to ourselves." The moon was partially beginning to appear in the sky, yet the sun was still setting, pulling a jet of pink, orange, and yellow across the sky. It was beautiful. At this point, Alice spun herself into his arm that had been holding her hand. They were now in the hunting grounds, and she smiled at him. "Okay. Time to hunt."
Reluctant to letting go of Jasper, Alice held him for a moment longer. Then she let go, he needed to hunt, and her clinging to him wouldn't help. Inhaling deeply, Alice waited for her husband. She would follow him as he went off, that way they could leave soon after he was done.

A deserted beach to have all to themselves was very ideal. Jasper could not agree more with her decision as to where they would venture to. It was why he left most decisions up to her. She always picked the perfect one. Though she released her hold on him, he remained near her. He focused on what they needed to do right now . . . eat. "Allow me," he said before disappearing far into the distance as fast as he could.
He came across the prey he had smelled from his initial location. As quick as lightening, he pounced on the deer and sunk his teeth into its throat, killing it almost instantly. Instead of drinking it right away, he lifted it and carried it back to Alice. That alone took tremendous will power, but the fact that it was Alice he was delivering the meal to was enough to motivate him.
"Dinner is served," he said with a smile as he placed it in front of her. He quickly left once again to get another so that they could dine together. Not quite a romantic setting -- or meal for that matter -- but vampires did not have the luxury of having romantic candle light dinners. Their meals required them to be aggressive and menacing. It was the only way to catch the animals they hunted . . . and eat them. Though he did have to admit that the setting . . . the time of day, added a certain romantic atmosphere. As long as one could ignore the fact that they were drinking blood . . . it was nice. Quiet. Peaceful. He returned with a second deer, and placed it next to hers. He waited for her to start . . . as it was the polite thing to do. He did not want to appear too desperate.

Giggling at Jasper's attempt to make this meal romantic, Alice said, "Don't mind if I do!" A smile broke out on her face after this, and she began giggling again. Walking up to the deer, Alice bent down, and bit into the animal's neck. Immediately it's neck began to spout blood, which she easily let bubble into her mouth. The warm blood tasted somehow off, and Alice knew it was because it was not what her body really craved, but it was good enough. Moments passed, and Alice began to wonder is Jasper was waiting for her or something. Glancing up quickly to search for her husband, Alice spotted his feet somewhere nearby. Either by his prey, or by her, she didn't know. Not being able to resist, the immediately went back to the deer.

When Jasper saw her indulging in her meal . . . he joined her. He bit the neck, this time harder so that the blood squirted directly in his mouth. It was not by any means delicious or satisfying. It was not what Jasper really needed. After living so long drinking human blood . . . the blood that all vampires craved . . . he was even still not used to drinking such a different kind. It would never truly quench his thirst. It would only make it enough to give him strength to function and to control himself around humans. In other words . . . it was better than nothing, and killing humans for meals was no longer an option. He would never go back to that life. Not when the vampires he cared about were so supportive of him now . . . and were struggling as he was, though stronger than himself.
"Would you care for another?" He asked. He had devoured his meal so quickly . . . as he usually did. He would most certainly have another. It was the only way to block out the temptation he felt when smelling and seeing Bella's blood. And if they were going to travel, he did not want to keep stopping for the sake of him.

A few moments after Jasper finished his meal, Alice did the same. She had gotton impatient, and opened the wound to the neck a bit farther as she drank. She had not really been to hungry to begin with, so when her husband offered her another, she shook her head. "No thank you. I'm done." Wipping specks of blood off the rim of her mouth with her fingers, she grinned. Sucking her fingers clean, she got up off the ground, and said, "But of course, go! Go! You were more hungry than I was."

Though Edward possessed the ability to read one's mind . . . it was as if Alice could clearly read his. She knew all too well -- which of course was in no way a bad thing -- ; it made her more understanding, which was perfect for Jasper. He did not vocalize his thoughts often, and with Alice, he rarely had to. "Thank you," he told her as he quickly went back deep into the woods to hunt another prey. He caught the deer but instead of bringing it back, quickly devoured it right there so that it would save them time.
He drained every drop of blood from it, and wiped the corners of his mouth . . . washing his hands in a nearby stream and making sure he looked presentable once again. It was funny how they could look so flawless in public, but when they hunted . . . they took on an entirely different appearance.
He headed back to where Alice was and stood next to her, taking her bag in his hand once again. "I am ready whenever you are," he told her, offering his hand for her to take.

As Jasper thanked her, and sped off in search of more prey, Alice sat down patiently. The moon was just blooming in the sky when he returned. The sky was a dark blue spotted with white-looking stars. Suddenly, Alice felt the light weight of her bag tooken from her. She then stood up beside her husband, and took his outstretched hand. "Ready."
Alice's mood was lifted a notch now that Jasper was happy. Taking the lead without an offer or request, the pixie-like girl started for the beach. Several minutes later, the trees cut off to reviel a short cliff. Past the cliff was a beach of sand turned white by the beautiful moon. The tides were gently lapping at the shore, and it was perfectly deserted. "Well! That was easy." breathed Alice as she headed for the cliff.
The scene was actually a lonely one, brought slightly back into reality by the newcomers. It now was a beach filled with possiblities, as if people came here everyday, but they were just lucky enough to have it to themselves tonight. "Look good?" Alice grinned at Jasper, pretty sure it was exactly what she wanted. But she wanted him to be happy too, he deserved it as much as she did.
