------ ---It was her on fault. Rosalie knew it it was her fault she was feeling this way. The worry, the helplessness, the fear. She could see that now. She had been blind, and petty and this she what she had done. What if Edward died? What if Alice was to late?
---Rose just wanted Emmett's comforting arms around her. Wanted him to tell her it was going to be fine. She wanted to be able to believe him. For now, she could not. Damn it! Why had she called Edward and told him about Alice's vision?
---But she knew. She missed her brother, and just wanted this over with and him home. While Edward was who she was least close to, she missed the times when they both worked in the garage and for once were perfectly in harmoney. She missed Esme being happy, and even Emmett seemed to miss him allot. She had thought she was doing the right thing. Hadn't she?
---Rose was sitting alone in what should have been Edwards room. His things, stilled packed up. Just a few things taken out during one of his visits. Rose was on his couch, as if waiting for him to come into his room and find her and let her have what she'd earned. Please! Let Alice be in time!

Esme had just returned home from a hunting trip with other members of her family. It was quiet as she entered the house, though it usually was. She just wished that maybe one of these times she'd walk in and be surprised to hear the sounds of Edward's piano keys. But that was a wish that hadn't come true yet, and that she feared would never come true. Esme found her previously happy expression falling from her face, being replaced by one of genuine sadness.
The family was incomplete now. And it pained Esme for it to be this way.
Esme strode up the stairs, using her practiced human pace. She didn't feel like zipping around the house now. As she cleared the first set of stairs, she was about to turn in the direction of her own study, but she recognized a scent that went to the third floor of their home. It was familiar, but unusual that this particular family member would be up there. Esme listened with her heightened hearing and pinpointed the exact location she was sitting by the intake of breath.
Why was Rose in Edward's room? she asked herself. The curiosity and concern pulled her up the final flight of stairs and to the end of the hall in a single flashing moment. Without knocking Esme opened the door and looked at Rosalie.
The expression on Rosalie's exquisite face had Esme flashing to her side, taking a seat beside her on the couch. Esme knew something was wrong. And something bad. All of them knew that Alice had seen Bella jump from the cliff, but Rosalie did not look like this when she had found the news.
She set both of her cool, granite hard hands on Rosalie's knees and stared into her face. "What happened Rose?" she strained to get the words out, unsure if she wanted to know.

------ ---Rose looked up at Esme and wished that Emmett had found them in the woods. He said he was going to go find Jasper (mainly) and Carlisle and Esme. Apparently he had not found Esme. "I think, I might have...No. I know I did something wrong, Esme. I didn't mean to, but I did."
---"When Alice went to Fork, after her vision, I started trying to call Edward." Rose sighed, "I hoped since she was dead that he would come home, move on! I feel bad that Bella was dead, I wouldn't wish her dead just so he could move on, but...She was dead, and he could come home!"
---Rose wasn't sure she was even making since. "He is not coming home. Alice and a very alive Bella are trying to stop him." Rose shook her head, "I'm so sorry, I'm not being clear." Taking a breath she tired again. "I told Edward Bella was dead, that she jumped the cliff. He is on his way to Italy...to see them, and ask them to kill him. Alice and Bella are on a plane, trying to catch him in time."

Esme put a hand on Rosalie's shoulder, trying to comfort her obviously upset daughter. "Rose, calm down. I'm sure it's not that bad...," she let the words of comfort trail off as Rosalie continued to explain.
Esme let her hand trail down Rose's arm, finally resting on top of her other hand at their original resting spot of Rosalie's knees. "Rose...you didn't," Esme managed to get out between the panicked words of her daughter.
She took a sharp intake of breath as Rosalie mentioned Edward not coming home. "What do you mean he's not coming home Rosalie?" Esme whispered, even in her whispered tone you could hear the panic starting to form. She was afraid of what Rosalie knew. Panicked by what the thoughts she was forming in her own mind.
"No..." Esme let out the single pained word. Her eyes pricked in a way that would have produced tears if they still could. "Rose...no...," Esme managed to get out between the tear-less sobs. She wasn't mad at Rosalie, she couldn't be, the thought of what Edward was doing, and the pain it caused consumed her. How could Edward do this to her...to their family...?

------ ---"I'm sorry!" Rose said quickly, "I thought no one would tell him, and it was silly. I thought if I told him, and he knew that she was dead he would come home and we could try to be a family again! I thought he could move on! Be normal Edward and annoy me again, but...I didn't see...I didn't think..."
---Rose took Esme's hands falling from her as a sign, Esme blamed her and she knew she might cry too. "I am waiting for Emmett to bring Jasper and Carlisle home. Alice seemed to blame me, and rightly so. This time, at lest. Bella is not dead and I should have stayed out of it." She had just wanted Emmett and Esme and everyone to be happy, and things to be normal! Edward home! Not this!!

Esme didn't think it was anyone's fault. She was sure Edward would have reacted the same way if any of them had told him, he would have found out eventually if Bella had really died. And Esme was sure he would have done the same thing he was doing now.
Esme put both of her hands on each of Rosalie's shoulders and looked into her gold eyes. "Rosalie, it's not your fault," she managed to keep her voice stern between the sobs, "Edward would have reacted the same way if any of us had told him. He would have found out eventually. It wasn't your fault, you didn't know Bella was still alive." Esme could not stand letting Rosalie beat herself up about this.

------ ---Rose did not believe her, but she wasn't going to press it for the moment. If Edward died, and something happened to Alice while there, then it would destroy this family. Jasper would never speak to her again, and Emmett would be down and sad for a long long time. It would break Esme's heart.
---"I shouldn't have called him. I should have let Carlisle break the news to him, or some one who Edward knew liked Bella. I think I made it worse!" Rose looked around his room, "Esme, What if Alice is to late? I wanted to join them to hunting his down, but..." But nothing. She had stayed to tell Carlisle and not make things worse.

"Rose," Esme tried to get her daughter to listen, "Please don't beat yourself up now." They would talk about it later, not now when multiple members of their family were in danger. Esme could tell Rosalie was genuinely sorry for what she had done.
"Alice will get there in time," Esme tried to assure both Rosalie and herself. She didn't want to think about the what-ifs. Alice had to get there in time.

------ ---"Yes, Alice will get there in time..." Rose said with feeling. She had to believe that right now. It was believe it or go crazy.
---"Oh! Esme, I know you don't blame me but I blame myself. Everyone knows how I was horrible to Bella. I still don't like the idea of her becoming one of us, and I think she should stay away from us for her own good, but I didn't think Edward loves her this much! I didn't see it!" Rose looked up into Esme's face. "But you did. Everyone else did..."

Esme returned her hands to her lap. "Rose," Esme told her, "Edward and Bella love each other like you and Emmett love each other. There is no separating them. You have to see that now. Whether you like the idea or not, it may be inevitable." Esme wasn't sure herself if Bella would become one of them, but she was prepared for that outcome. And didn't mind it at all.
"Rosalie, we can't dwell on what you didn't know at the time. We have to talk to the others," she said. "Was anyone able to get ahold of Edward on his cell phone?" she asked, already knowing the answer.

------ ---"Emmett was going to try to find them, I am not sure if he did. As for Edward...I don't think he will pick up for any of us. I imagine he knows what we will say, and If we tried to tell him about Bella on the phone he would assume we were lieing."
---Rose knew this next question was horrible in this setting, but still, "How mad do you think they will be with me? Alice was very mad. Scary mad." Rose remembered Alice's words and felt a wave of sadness and self loathing hit. "They should be mad. You should be mad at me."
{Sure!}

Esme's tearless sobs had ceased, though her face was still full of sadness and the pain of possibly losing one of her family. She listened to Rosalie explain how Edward would react if one of us called, and she knew it was true. Right now, he wouldn't listen to anyone, no matter what.
"Rosalie, their anger will pass," Esme reassured her, "I'm not mad at you. And they will not be for long." Esme was keeping her hopes up as she spoke, she had to or she would lose it herself. She knew the anger the others would voice toward Rosalie would pass. If Edward came home.

Jasper felt hopeless and lost. Confused. Terrified. He had known Alice long enough to know when she was lying. She seldom, if ever, lied to him and so when she called . . . he could sense the distress in her voice, though she tried to hide it. He knew for a fact that she had lied to . . . what? Protect him? How was he supposed to protect her? He should have taken the next flight out and gone with her . . . walked into danger with her. If something happened to her . . . he would never forgive himself. He would not want to live with himself.
But instead of carrying out what he most desperately wanted to do, he stayed. He stayed because it was what Alice wanted. If she had somehow foreseen his death, then he did not want to put her through the pain of losing him. But why could she not have just said that on phone? Why did she feel she had to lie to him? He wished she would have permitted him to come. He wished they could go together, because if something happened . . . then at least they would die together or better yet, he could save her. He could protect her. Alice was so fragile . . . she was so small. And yet, Jasper sat here waiting for some kind of news.
Why couldn't she have asked him to come. Why did she have to lie to him. Why could he not betray her by going against her wishes. He had to believe that she would come back to him, because the thought of losing her was absolutely unbearable.
Jasper was sitting in Alice's room . . . well, what was often described as her room since his room was more known as his study. He could smell her scent, and his silent heart ached for it. Maybe someone had heard something. Though he did not want to move from his position, and though he was so scared of hearing the news if it was bad . . . he knew he had to. He walked over to where he could smell the others -- Rosalie and Esme -- and stood in the doorway.
He stayed quiet, but his expression pleaded for some sort of news. It was asked if they had heard anything. He was asking if his precious Alice was alive and on her way home.

------ ---Rose did not look up at Jasper. She had heard him approach and knew he was coming. She could tell his foot steps were hesitant. Not the force of anger behind them but the pause of dread? It was then, Rose thought of one thing worse the Jasper's anger. The on emotion on his face that would show up on there, and hurt worse then any 'I hate you' he could give her.
---Rose's eyes pleaded with Esme's silently. She knew she had not earned it but she was a coward in this. She did not want to look up and over at him, and face him. Rosalie's hands gripped slightly tighter on Esme's and waited to see what Esme would do.

Esme looked up as Jasper approached and stood in the doorway. She could see it on his face. The plea for anything, news about Alice, Bella and Edward. Alice mostly. She sighed and simply shook her head. "We haven't heard anything yet Jasper," she said quietly.
Esme gave Rosalie's hand a gentle squeeze of comfort. Esme was silent now and stood completely still, something vampires did when stressed. She didn't know what they could do now, what they should do now. She needed Carlisle. For comfort, for help, she needed him to reassure her that everything would be alright. She couldn't continue the facade in front of Rosalie and Jasper for much longer, she could feel herself starting to break again.

((Hope this is fine, let me know if I should edit.)) (I wasn't sure where to say Emmett was....)
Carlisle had ran back to the house after he heard the news. Entering though the back door and noticed the silence first. He could hear them in the house but no one was speaking. After a half millisecond he heard Esme's voice talking to Jasper. Knowing where she was, he moved up the steps to find her first. He was rather shocked to find them all in Edwards room. Standing behind Jasper, Carlisle placed his hands on Jasper's shoulders and gave him a reassuring squeeze, before moving (and pulling Jasper) closer to the women. "From what little Emmett has told me, I think I know what is going on. I am sure that things will work out. Aro will not grant his request. I am sure of it. Alice is smart girl. She will find Edward and drag him home, quickly."

Jasper's expression changed ever so slighty. It no longer pleaded for an answer. It was stern . . . hurt . . . worried . . . stressed. He felt a combination of what everyone in the room was feeling. He even felt guilt, like Rosalie. Except of course it was a different kind of guilt. One that was caused by him standing right here in the door way . . . instead of following Alice.
"She lied to me." It was not an accusing statement . . . he was not angry with Alice. But it was his way of saying that things sounded really bad . . . that he feared the situation would not be that easy to overcome. Regardless of the reassurance that Carlisle gave, and the confidence in which he said it, Jasper would not feel relieved until Alice was in his arms again.
He briefly eyed Rose before looking down at the ground. He could not look at her because he was angry. It was more of a silent anger, but he was not impressed with her decision to have told Edward what happened. Of course he would not yell at her . . . he could feel the tremendous amount of guilt she was consumed with. Perhaps he just needed someone to be angry with. Either way, Jasper was not happy. He needed his Alice to be near him. He needed her joviality to make him smile again.

Esme sighed in relief as Carlisle entered Edward's room. She looked at him with a pained and needy expression. Esme listened to Carlisle tell them all what he thought. Carlisle made it sound so simple, and as much as Esme wanted to believe that it would be that way, she couldn't bring herself to believe it. She wished there was a way to get ahold of one of them, to know what was going on.
Her gold colored eyes turned to Jasper as he stated that Alice had lied to him. Alice wouldn't lie to Jasper unless she had to. To keep him safe. Esme let a single sob escape her lips as she realized what the lie meant. Alice didn't think they had a good chance of coming home from Italy. She released Rosalie's hands, setting her elbows on her knees and letting her body slump forward, her head rested in her hands as she let another sob break free.

Letting go of Jasper, Carlisle moved quickly to wrap his arms around Esme. "Alice knows there is a risk, however I know Aro well. He will see Edward's gift and refuse to end his life. It will give Alice and Bella time to catch up to him, and stop him from doing anything rash." Carlisle knew there was a HUGE risk with the timing. One delay, and Alice could be to late.
"I am not sure why Alice has lied to you, Jasper. However, I have faith that should she had seen the worse, then...Well she would have acted differently." He did not know this, he was trying to keep them all positive. Holding Esme close Carlisle looked at Rosalie, then at Jasper, then back at Rosalie, "No one is to blame for this. We all know that you would never do anything to hurt Edward." Looking back at Jasper, Carlisle hoped he would agree, but was not going to ask him to lie.

------ ---Rose watched as Carlisle hugged Esme. She felt very in need of a good hug right now as well. Reaching her hand out she put it on Esme's arm, wishing she could stress how sorry she was for doing this to her family. If she had stayed out of it, Alice would have been home right now with news Bella was alive.
---Where was her Emmett? She needed him now. She needed some to her hug her like Carlisle was hugging Esme and convince her everything would work out and be fine. She wanted to believe that, to believe she would have the chance to make it better.
---When the need become to great she moved quickly to Jasper and wrapped her arms around his torso, and lay her head in his shoulder. "I am so sorry!" She said as tears came. She griped him tightly, hoping he would either just yell at her and blame her or worse hug her and tell her it was ok. Something! Just react so she could stop wondering how he felt about her right now. His life, Alice, was on a plane going to face something and might not come home. If Jasper had done this and it had been Emmett; Rose would have ripped him apart. She could not take this silent indifference he seemed to have right now about her. Where the hell was Emmett?!

Esme leaned into Carlisle's side. His seemingly rock hard, cold body was soft and warm to her. It was comforting, she wiped her hair from her face, tucking it behind her ears and held the sobs in. Esme looked over at Rosalie, who looked like she was about to lose it too. She tried to smile at her daughter, but failed.
Esme's gold eyes watched as Rosalie suddenly got up and ran to wrap her arms around Jasper. Looking at Jasper Esme was reminded of Alice and how much Jasper had on the line right now. Esme put tried to put herself in Jasper's shoes and tried to imagine what it would feel like if it was Carlisle over there risking his life, but she couldn't. She couldn't imagine the kind of pain that would cause.

After informing Carlisle what had happened, Emmett quickly ran back to his home where he knew the rest of his family was. He stopped at the doorway for a brief second until he quickly caught the scent of his family up in Edward’s room. He then sprinted up the staircase and found his worried family and saw Rosalie crying tear-less sobs, hugging Jasper and asking for forgiveness.
Emmett knew Rosalie well enough to know that she would have never told Edward if she knew how he was going to react. He knew that she must have had some different logic to what she was doing, a better outcome in her mind while making that phone call. He couldn’t be angry with the woman he loved, not even now, when his favorite brother, Edward and Alice’s lives were at risk. He could only worry for his brother and sister, who he might never see again and try to comfort the others, especially Rosalie, who probably felt the worse about all of this mess.
After a second had passed he took Rosalie in his arms. “It’s going to be fine; Edward, Alice, and Bella will be back…they have to.” Emmett whispered to Rosalie, trying to convince himself that this was true.

------ ---Rosalie felt someone pull her away from Jasper and looked over to see Emmett. She had actually been upset enough to not hear or notice him come up to her or even in the room. Letting Jasper go, she flung her arms around Emmett and held on but looked over at Jasper still waiting on him to react to something besides Alice lieing to him.
---When Emmett spoke, Rose began to hope; that was until he added 'they have to' and she realized he was trying to convince him self of this and not just her. "I am not sure how far behind him they are. Hours maybe. I just wanted him to come home, I didn't think he would stay away with Bella dead. I thought we could all be a family again, and he might die because I couldn't wait to let Carlisle handle it!"

Rosalie's unexpected embrace still left Jasper motionless. Though her arms were wrapped around his, his hands remained by his side. He did not know what to do. How could he comfort someone he was so angry with . . . maybe he was angry with himself for not following Alice. He did not know who to blame. He just hated this entire situation. After a few moments, he -- very slowly -- began to raise his arms to put them around it. It was barley a hug, but it was something. To his relief, Emmett had come and began to comfort Rose. He was a better form of comfort . . . as he was her husband, and Jasper was just an adopted brother and son who's wife's life was on the line.
He took a step away from them, standing in the threshold of the door again. Though he heard everyone attempting to comfort each other by saying that they would return . . . that everything was alright, Jasper could not fully believe it. If that were true, no one would be this worried or panicked. Rose would be more confident and Esme would not be sobbing.
As he looked at the scene in front of him, it made him that much more upset. Esme with Carlisle . . . Rose with Emmett . . . Jasper would rather die with Alice than live alone without her. He looked at the ground . . . not wanting to leave in case there was news, but not really wanting to stay because he could not bear this waiting. Jasper went back to Carlisle's comment about how she would have done things differently -- ignoring Emmett's reassurance that they would return, and Rosalie's remark about them being hours behind. "She lied," he repeated. "She could have told me what she saw . . . but she lied." Again, it was not an accusing tone . . . it was more one consumed with fear. Never in all the years they had been together had they lied to each other.

Emmett was at a loss of words. What else could he say? When Rosalie said they might be hours behind, he didn't know what to think. Could they catch up to Edward? He started to think about if they didn't, then stopped, not wanting to even think that there was another alternative then for them to return safely with the rest of his family.
Emmett tried thinking about positive things like how great it would be to have Edward back and what kind of bets they could make. He couldn't do that for long after Jasper had spoken again. Alice lied to Jasper about what she saw, but why? Emmett wasn't sure if he even wanted to know....But he could guess. He didn't know if it would be best to say anything more, he didn't want to make anyone more upset. He finally decided to not say anything, he feared he would make it worse. So he just held Rosalie in his arms, lost in thought.

------ ---"If Alice thought she was going to die, she would have been dramatic and said good bye." Rosalie looked up at Emmett for a moment knowing the bond between mates, then back at Jasper, "She didn't say good bye. To me or to you." Alice had blamed Rosalie for most of this, and if Alice died and those where her last words to Rose then--Rosalie was not going to finish that thought.
---Rosalie didn't know exactly what had been said to Jasper, but he was going on and on about her lieing, not her saying goodbye. So Rosalie was assuming this part, more then any actual knowing. Rosalie was just trying to be positive, and bring in some hope.

Hugging Esme closer to him, and watching the others Carlisle understood he was going to have to try to calm and reassure everyone at once, even if he did not believe it himself. "What did she tell you, Jasper? What was said?" He asked so he could have the details that he needed to find a positive spin on this. Something to bring in hope. Rose said Alice had not said good bye. That was something at lest.

Sighing as she was pulled closer to her husband, Esme glanced across the room. Emmett had come into the room and was now comforting Rosalie. Esme was being comforted by Carlisle. And Jasper was alone.
He was still going on about the lie he was told by Alice. Alice lying to her one true love wasn't a good sign. Esme took comfort in the words Rosalie spoke. About Alice not having said goodbye. She had to hang on that one thing just to keep herself from sobbing again. She waited for Jasper to say Alice's exact words. She didn't speak as she went through everything in her head.

Had . . . Rosalie . . . really . . . just . . . said . . . that. The way she explained Alice made it almost sound like criticism. Or then, perhaps Jasper was just extremely sensitive right now. But either way, her words only angered him further. Jasper's demeanor appeared calm but he was angry and worried. He felt all eyes on him, but he just stared at the ground in front of him. He was trying to keep himself as calm as possible . . . Alice was usually the one who helped him with that though. All the stress and worry in the room was making it nearly impossible for him to control himself . . . and Rosalie's words were not helping.
His hand began to quiver. He did not have the strength to try to make it stop. Instead, he completely ignored Rosalie. Speaking to her would only make it easier to substitute his worry and stress with anger. Instead, he focused on Carlisle's words.
"Carlisle . . . please explain to Rosalie that if Alice thought . . . " He could not use the two words die and Alice in the same sentence. "That she would not want to have gotten any one else involved. I know my wife." His voice was firm. He was not going to directly speak to Rosalie right now. Not out of some immaturity . . . but because he felt it was for the better if he was going to have any hopes of controlling himself. After a few moments pause, he continued . . . preparing to answer Carlisle's question.
"She promised me she would stay safe." He knew she was in extreme danger. "She said . . . that she could not clearly see what Edward was planning to do . . . how he planned to capture the attention of the Volturi was still unknown to her." It was difficult for him to recall this conversation . . . but for the others benefit, he had to. "She did not want any of us to follow -- " Not even him " -- because she said it would cause him to react, and quicken his attempt to disturb the peaceful city." Which ultimately meant being killed by the Volturi. "She promised me," he repeated. "She said she would get out. But . . . the odds . . . she said the odds were not good." He wanted to get out of here right not and follow her straight into danger. "She promised me." That had been the lie right there, and he knew it.. . . And I love you. Those had been her last words to him. He knew that there was a chance he would never see Alice again.

------ ---Did Jasper just tell Carlisle to tell her something when she was right here? Was Jasper not speaking to her?! Rosalie noticed his hand shaking. he was angry at her!. . . And Rosalie was slightly afraid of that anger. Enough to shift closer to Emmett. The other men in her life, Emmett, Carlisle and even Edward would never hurt her. She knew that down to whatever soul she had left from becoming a vampire.
---But Jasper was the one she was unsure of still. Even after all the years, and all the jokes, and all the baseball games. She didn't know if Jasper would hurt her or not. "I'm right here, you don't have to speak like I am not!"
---"Emmett, tell Jasper that Alice promised to come back. She loved Jasper and wouldn't want him sad, so she will keep her promise." Rosalie said while shifting more away from Jasper so Emmett was slightly between them. "He is not going to hear anything I say. Tell him it will be ok that Edward will hear in Alice's head that Bella is there, and he will not do anything, and Alice will keep her promise and come home and...." And lie to Jasper, and make him believe it.
