Guilt seemed to flow through her veins as Deline stared at the lifeless body laying in front of her. She absolutely despised what she had become, a true murderer. She brushed back her firey red-orange hair behind her ear. A frown played at her lips, and she stared at her bare feet. She sighed heavily, hating being a vampire. She pressed her lips in a thin line, holding back her dry sobs. She picked up the body easily, and quickly disposed of it. She needed to focus, now that the burn in her throat was as gone as it would ever be.
The wind blew gently, and a scent familiar yet unknown hit her. Dede recognized it almost immediately as a vampire. Her amber eyes scanned the area around her. She could not see anyone immediately. Extremely slowly she made her way through the unfamiliar forest. The tough rocks and sticks did not affect her tough soles. It felt more like silk and satin because of her hard, granite like skin. That was an improvement, as when she was a human she had smooth soles that were not good for being barefoot in. She sighed once again, not liking to think of her past.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Del called out loudly. She was not very used to her high, musical voice. She did not know many people since she was hanged, and therefore had not spoken that much. She swallowed audibly, hating being small. It made her feel so vulnerable, despite the fact she was extremely small and freakishly fast. She looked around nervously.

Jasper was in the woods on one of his very frequent hunting trips. This particular hunt was different than the normal ones he engaged in at Forks. Once he had finished his animal, he had become distracted. The scent of something all too familiar had filled the air, and though it was not in his line of sight . . . the smell was too strong to have the strength to ignore it. Jasper of all vampires in the Cullen family did not have the power to turn the other way.
Not only was the smell of human blood dominating the air . . . but he also caught the scent of another vampire in the area. That led to only one conclusion: that the human who's blood he smelled, was not exposed because of some injury. Jasper quickly followed the smell, and now the voice who he heard asking if someone was out there. She could clearly smell the presence of another vampire as well.
He revealed himself to the young vampire he saw standing there, now in front of him. He looked at her curiously. Who was she? What was she doing here in Forks? The blood still smelled so fresh, Jasper had to focus on the vampire in front of him, and not let himself be distracted by the delicious, tempted, smell. "Who are you?" He asked in a calm, yet expressionless tone.

Deline looked at the blonde male vampire that appeared. Her amber eyes widened in fear. There were scars covering most of everything that she could see of his skin. Her instincts screamed to flea the area, run away as fast as she could. She staggered a step back, in fear of her life. She forced herself to tear her eyes off of the scars, and look closer at him. When she looked at his clothes, she could see the hints of designer from them. She remembered what she was wearing, and how pathetic she had to look. She knew her purple shirt was torn, with blood stains. She internally sighed.
That's when she noticed what was so different about him. Deline looked at his eyes, and they were not the red she had expected. Curiousity filled her when she looked into his gold eyes. She had most definitely not expected that, not in her wildest daydreams. Why were they gold? Did he had some kind of rare disease? Was he a different type of mythical creature? But her first question continued to ring in her head, as if she no control of her thoughts. She realized he had asked her what her name is.
"Deline." She said softly, suddenly feeling small. She knew she was short, but she felt more and more like a midget in his presence. She even felt weak. She knew she was not, but this guy had to be seriously strong to have that many scars and still be standing here today. She wondered momentarily if he was the reason she was even here. She was searching for someone that she knew was up North. She knew his name, and that was all. She was searching for information she he would have, or so she hoped.

Jasper could feel her fear, and he knew why. It was a common emotion from vampires who were not familiar with him, and thus, unfamiliar with the scars that consumed his body. It was not something he was proud of, but that fear was something he sometimes used to his advantage, especially if he felt that it would protect his wife and family.
"Deline," he spoke as he slightly lowered his head in a bit of a bow. She did not know the rules surrounding this land; he eyes were red, and he knew that they would remain that way. "What brings you here to Forks?" Surely she had a reason for being here, unless she was just randomly passing through? Even so, Jasper had to know before the wolves came in contact with her; before she jeopardized her own safety. Jasper may not condone killing other humans, but he sympathized with vampires who had no other choice, for he would be too great of a hypocrite if he did not be a little empathetic towards them.

It took a moment for Deline to understand his words. She could not stop staring at the scars, and her eyes flashed down at her wrist with it's own crescent sharpes scar. She took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. She shook her head gently to herself, as if knocking the thoughts away from her brain for awhile. She wished it was that simple to clear her head, but it wasn't. She was a deep thinker, often over analyzing things without meaning too. She released the deep breath, and open back up her violent amber red eyes.
"I am searching for someone with information about a vampire I met from where I am from. All I know is that he is up north, and his name as a human was Jasper Whitlock. Do you know him?" Deline spoke much quicker than she meant to, realizig that it was out of fear. She knew that if she was a human she would not be standing here so easily. If she were human she would have walked away calmly, or passed out because of fear. They both seemed like good options at the moment. She didn't go, because of her curiousity.

Her question caused even more concern in Jasper. She knew him. Or well, she knew of him . . . which was worse because he had no idea who she was. He did not like the advantage she had over him right now; it was making him uneasy. He did however, remain better guarded, wondering if there were more vampires in the vicnity. He did not smell any, nor did Alice see anything major in a vision. And yet, here was a vampire, asking if he knew Jasper Whitlock. He was going to maintain the fear she felt for him, not making any attempt to calm her or offer her words of reassurance. That fear was the only thing that was putting at him at the slightest advantage, though she clearly knew more than he did about this entire thing.
"Why is it that you are searching for him?" Jasper was not one to play irritating games where they talked in circles, but he wanted to know more information about her reasons before revealing his identity, and enlightening Deline of the fact that she had found who she was looking for.

Deline found herself quite annoyed with his answer. In fact, it wasn't even an answer. People who answered a question with another question always knew the answer to the question, which they chose not to answer. That just annoyed the crap out of her. She bit her tongue from snapping out a response towards him, just in case he did know of him. That would not be the most intelligent thing to do, especially if that made him not want to tell her. But most likely by then she would loose impatience and end up lounging for his scarred throat.
"I'm looking for information on a vampire who goes by Maria in Texas. I have heard that he knows quite a bit of information dealing with her." Deline explained quickly. "And you didn't answer my question." She added, annoyance slipping into her tone. She felt like he knew him, there was something in his tone that just said it. She held back her tone to keep away the rest of her smart alec replies, hoping not to anger the vampire. She pressed her lips in a thin line, just in case. She was not one who thought before she spoke.

Maria. That was all he needed to hear. Was this one of Maria's ridiculous games? No. Jasper could feel the vampire's curiosity and genuineness in her questions and comments. She was not carrying out work for Maria, or being part of her twisted games and plots. Jasper wanted to ask another question, but he could also feel this vampire's annoyance and knew he would have to cooperate with her if he wanted to know everything Maria had said to her.
"I am Jasper Whitlock." Well, legally here in Forks he was Jasper Hale. "I go by the surname Hale now, to avoid suspicion and maintain consistency," he explained. He wanted to ask her so many questions, but had no idea where to start. He would start with his name, and see how she reacted to that. Then, they would go from there.

Deline's eyebrows raised slightly. That helped. She had heard that the battles left you marked, but this she did not expect as far as scars go. They were starting to freak her out. Her toes curled and uncurled out of uncomfortableness, and nervousness. She closed her eyes for a moment, in an failing attempt to calm herself. She muttered something incoherent under her breath, an old inside joke she and her friends had once had. They were dead now, so it nearly sent her hyperventilating. That wouldn't have been good. She took a long, deep, calming breath to wash away the sadness and regret.
"That saves me a lot of time. Okay." Deline nodded, mainly to herself. She decided to play fair with this. "I'll be nice and let you ask another question since you answered mine." She told him quickly, half-hoping he would not have heard her. But she knew how well vampires could hear, and that her hope was truly wasted. She let the wind blow her wild red hair, ignoring it blowing in her face. She actually was slightly releaved, as that made it harder to stare at his scars. But she knew they would be burned in her memories as long as she lived.

Jasper was about to say it had nothing to do with being nice, but rather imperative that he know all the information she could possibly provide. "It is of paramount importance that I know what it is that you discussed with Maria, and why is it that you seek more information about her." Deline was not planning to join Maria's cause, was she? If she was, Jasper would do whatever he could to talk her out of it.
Though he could sense her emotions, he did not alter them with the gift he possessed. Instead, he would try to use words to calm her, for he needed her to be open with him and spare no details of her encounter with Maria. "You need not fear me Deline, I will not harm you." He did not know if that meant anything, but he was not going to spend the entire time trying to convince her -- unless it affected how much information she told him -- .

"I have come across Maria once before. She mentioned something about 'home.' I was very uncertain about her, and came across nearly no nomads who knew about her. One told me to find you. I have also come across Aro, and he mentioned something about Newborn Armies. I figured out that the somehow must relate, how I do not know. That it why I would like to know." Deline explained rather quickly. Despite his words, she still did not trust him. That did not comfort her at all, or reduce her fear of him. She knew he would know how to fight. The only fighting she had done was with her sibling.
For some reason, Deline did not ask the question about Maria just yet. In fact, she went silent after saying that. She had a feeling she would get to know about Maria whether she asked or not. She kept her eyes on her feet, not wanting to meet his eyes. Her amber eyes looked at the tattoo of a rose on her lower ankle. She was surprised it was still there. Vampirism had taken away all if her other scars, and merely made that one even more noticeable. She found that strange.

Jasper kept his eyes locked on to her, as curiousity and concern continued to fill him. Meeting both Maria and Aro could not at all be a good sign. Nor could talk of a newborn army. "Did Maria make mention of an army of some sort?" Was she trying to recruit Deline? Jasper did not understand. How did Aro come to know about this? There were so many questions Jasper wanted to bombard her with, and yet, she may not know all of the answers. He would have to drill her though. Despite her averting her gaze, he kept his eyes on her.
"This information is vital," he said, wanting her to understand the full magnitutude of what this had the potential to mean. "I need to know as much as you can tell me." He wanted to think of a better location to talk comfortably, but he could not. He did not want to bring her back to their residence, nor did he want them to be exposed to the public eye. They would have to remain in the depths of the woods.

Deline pursued her lips. Why was this so important? She had come here to get information, not to give out information. She sat down against the tree, and could practically feel his gaze. Her fingers traced lightly over the rose, and she pressed her lips in a tight, thin line. She was starting to regret coming here. She should have just gotten the information from Maria herself. But she did not know if she would have been able to escape from her thin. She thought about his question, trying to dig up all the information she currently had about that vampire.
"No, she did not. When our paths crossed she only said that I was on her territory. But she seemed impressed I had not gotten myself killed. I do not know why, though. Only Aro mentioned anything about an army. He had come down with part of his guard to put a stop to it." Deline said. She tried to remember more, but could not. She wondered again why it was so important. Then it clicked in her mind. Aro had came down to stop Maria's army. That would make a lot of sense. But why did she have an army?

Maria was up to her old tricks. "What happened after that?" Had he put a stop to it? Did Maria cease to existence? No. Jasper did not think that she had been destroyed. Maria would have found a way to avoid her own destruction; she had been doing it for many, many years. She would not slip just yet. There was more to it.
"I must urge you, not to follow her ways. If she has said anything that has enticed you to join her, or accompany her in any way, I beg you to not listen, and not to accept her invitation." Jasper knew what happened to vampires when they did so. He had been around Maria long enough to know that when she was impressed with a vampire, she was going to try to recruit them and find a way to get them to join her twisted cause to maintain control over her city.

God, so many questions! Deline thought. It reminded her of her friend, Kara, who was too curious for her own good. She would always ask many questions, pricking and prodding where people did not want her. And she had also been quite the blabber mouth, so when she learned something the whole world learned something. Focus! She thought to herself loudly. She thought what else had happened that day. She sighed lightly before responding. "Nothing, really." That much was true. Not much had really happened with both Aro and Maria. It wasn't all too eventful with both of their presences.
"I believe I said ecouter questions." Deline said with a flawless French accent. But she could hear the annoyance in her voice. She was surprised with herself, mainly. For two things. The first that she had even remembered French, as her human memories were blurry. Then again, it was her second language and she spoke in it quite a bit. The other reason was because she had snapped like that. She did not do that often, which surprised her. She muttered an apology under her breath, keeping in English this time. She wondered if he knew that ecouter meant one in French.

Unlike Deline, Jasper was not fluent in french. It extended to what he learned in school, and even then, it was mostly grammar and compositions rather than learning how to speak it properly. Her answers were however, becoming more laconic and that was making Jasper eager for more specific responses. "Why is it that you are interested in learning about Maria?" Her interest was substantial if she had come all the way to Forks just to look for the vampire who had been with Maria for so long. Something was going on, and Jasper wanted to know what so that he could be prepared in case it directly involved him and/or his family.

Why. The most horrible question in the world, in Deline's opinion. It annoyed the heck out of her, as some things had no reason behind it that she knew of. She pursued her lips, and sighed. She stared at her finger nails, and bit her lip. Annoyance prickled in her mind. She was not sure why, to be honest with herself. Why did she travel all this way to learn about a vampire? Why did she even care? She knew she could not honestly answer those two questions. She looked up from her hands, and met his golden eyes.
"Why are you avoiding what you know I'm going to ask? Cutting me off with your won questions?" Deline said, keeping her face emotionless. She wanted to smile smugly, and narrow her eyes as she spoke. She kept them back, keeping up a perfect poker face. She kept his gaze easily, as he had already been looking at her so she did not have to really strain her neck to meet his eyes. Her amber eyes pierced his, but still were emotionless and hollow as if she had no heart. Technically, she didn't have a real heart, anymore. But, she had acted heartless as a human.

They were speaking in circles, returning one question with another and Jasper did not want to play this game. He could not afford to. "I do not think you understand what Maria is capable of, which is why I am asking why it is that you have sparked such an interest in her, and why you have traveled at what I am sure is a great distance to find a vampire who is familiar with her." He did not ask the question again, he explained his reason for asking it, and tried to describe why he had to know, and the importance of this subject.
But obviously, she had questions of her own and she reminded him. "Very well. What is it that you wish to ask?" How much did she know about him? Had Maria made any mention of him, or had Deline's discovery of his connection with Maria come along her journey for answers? Jasper was going to find out before their conversation came to an end.

Was her question not obvious enough? Deline had thought by now he would have known it. Great distance? She was not sure how far she had traveled. She was not tired, but need would be thanks to being a vampire. It was one of the few perks, in her opinion. As for great interest, she was not all to sure about. She did not think there was anything exceptionally interesting. She thought of herself as rather boring. The only unique thing about her was probably her hair. Some days it was not as red-orange as others. That was the only odd thing.
Of course, Deline knew he was right about some things. "You are correct. I do not know what she is capable of. Which leads me straight to my question. What do you know about Maria?" Her question was that simple. What did he know? It was an easy question, a simple one. She had other questions, but this one was nice and broad. She might get answers to her other questions from this question, if her karma was good. But why would it be? She murdered the innocent for her own needs. She was evil, a monster.

Her question was tremendous. How could he explain his entire history in this short time? He was not sure he wanted to disclose all of the details. "For the first part of my life shortly after becoming a vampire, I stayed with Maria." Where to begin? Where to end? There were too many answers, there was too much of an explanation. Jasper wanted to know more about Deline's interaction with her, not go deep in to his history. Then again, maybe he would not have to unless she asked specific questions.
"I spent a significant amount of time with her. I know quite a bit about her, the way she is, the things she does . . . I am very familiar with Maria." He stood there, watching Deline carefully, reading his emotions upon hearing this information and working with it so that he could get more details that she had to offer. "Now if you may allow me to ask one, why has Maria caused you such interest in her?"

Once again, she had the why question. Deline pursued her lips. "I'm not quite sure..." She said softly. Her eyes flashed away, looking to the ground again. That certainly was a good question. Why was she so interested with this particular vampire? She brushed back her hair out of her face, even though seconds later the wind blew it back in front of it. She decided just to ignore it, leave it hiding her horrendous amber eyes. She truly hated her eyes, as she knew that they were red. She had seen a glimpse of her reflection from the pupils, and seen her eyes.
"Curiosity killed the cat, as they say." It was true enough. Deline took a deep breath. How would she word it differently to get a better answer. His answer had not helped at all, in fact she hardly thought of it as an answer. She sighed, a common thing for her to do at the moment. She was not satisfied with his answer. "If that is the case, what are some of the things that she does you are familiar with?" That seemed like a direct enough question. It had more details, and she should get a better answer out of it.

Her answer was as dissatisfying as his answer had been. They were going to have to take turns then . . . though he had a feeling that by the end of this conversation -- if it ever did come to an end -- they would both still be left with millions of questions. "Maria is a dangerous vampire to be intrigued by. Surely, she must have said something to you to spark such curiosity. Or was she simply the first vampire you have encountered since your transformation?" Jasper was trying to understand the circumstances under which Deline and Maria met, and since he had no intention of seeking out Maria to find out . . . he was going to ask Deline.
He thought about her question now, trying to mentally phrase a proper response. "She does many things." He knew Deline wanted more details, but he had to be careful of what he said, not wanting to incriminate himself. "First, I must ask you another question and I realize my questions are redundant, however my next one determines what I can and can not tell you. I must inquire, are you planning to relay what I tell you to anyone else, more specifically, Aro or any of the Volturi?" Jasper did not want to risk it. He would be killed for his past actions, and he did not want to put Alice through that pain.

Deline had been wondering why he had been so short on answers. His question explained it all. He must relate back to something illegal, according to the Volturi, to be asking her such a question. This truly must be worse than she would have thought if he was honestly asking her that. She decided against it, as she did want to know everything she could about Maria. She hated be the last to know things, and not knowing things bothered her even more. Lack of knowledge was something she was not accustomed to, and definitely did not prefer it one bit.
"I did not take any thought of it. And I'm assuming, by your question, that it would be very bad for your sake if I did. So, I shall not." Deline told him after a few seconds of thinking about it. It was not a hard question to answer, and she might as well be honest with it. She could keep a secret very well if she wanted to, but as a human often she did not want to. Now, as a vampire, she had to keep practically everything a secret.

Jasper paid very close attention to the emotions associated to the question, and which ones were stronger when she answered. Honesty, sincerity . . . Jasper did not fully trust her -- as he did not trust anyone upon first meeting them -- but he was fairly certain that she would not be taking any of this information back to Aro, which was his primary concern. He did not care if she told Maria. He would not tell Deline anything that Maria did not already know. "Very well," he said, mentally formulating an explanation that he could offer her.
"I was with Maria from the moment I was a vampire, to nearly a century after that. Her goals consisted of obtaining more land, and she achieved this in ways that were . . . less than accepted." He would not give specific examples for even if Deline did not verbally tell Aro of this, with one touch, he would know everything. "She is a dangerous vampire to be associated with, for she is constantly plotting. She is trying to obtain the land that she believes is rightfully hers, and one that has been battled for, for so many years. I was with her during the peak of her reign. I was . . . partly responsible for it."

Post by mawh on Jul 5, 2009 19:47:05 GMT -5
Plotting? Battles? Land? Deline furrowed her eyebrows, trying to understand fully what he meant. He did not give an example, probably because he was not sure whether or not to trust her. No one smart really should trust some one they had just met. She pursued her lips, trying to understand. If he was hiding it from the Volturi, that meant it was something illegal. Could they be telling the humans what they were to get land? She did not think that would be it. It would have been all over newspapers, and people today would most definitely know about it.
Gasping, Deline stared up at Jasper. If they were not revealing the secret, then it had to be something that could reveal the secret. She gulped audibly before speaking. "You were a part of the Newborn Armies, weren't you." It wasn't completely a question, as she knew it had to be true. Her eyes were wide with pure shock, and partially horror. Why would anyone want to be a part of that? "When were you...changed?" She searched for the right word. It was a simple question. He had to be fairly old if he was with her almost a century.

Jasper did not verbally answer her question. He just slightly raised his head, an indication that the answer was yes, without needing to actually say the word. Her next question called for an answer that he could not substitute silence and gestures with. He thought for a moment, though he did not need to for he remembered his transformation quite clearly . . . or well, how it had happened. He had told the story enough times to make the memory fresh in his mind.
"In 1863 . . . by Maria." If she knew that he had been associated with Maria, then why would this detail need to be withheld from her. After all, he was giving her answers that he would get some in return. "What about you?" How old was Deline? He had a feeling that Maria was not the one who had transformed her, otherwise she would not be here conversing with him in such a manner, nor would her curiousity be as great as it was. Still, he did want to know.

Oh. My. God! Deline's thoughts screamed. Even though she had already known it, she still felt surprise. For over a century, though?! Why would any one want to fight in a war that long? Her eyebrows furrowed. That would have been during the Civil War. She thought more about her small knowledge about it. She remembered that her fifth grade social studies teacher had been obsessed with it, and loved Robert E. Lee and the whole confederacy. She guessed that he had fought in the war, because who else would stay so long in a 'newborn' army. She gasped.
"Um, 2001." Deline answered. She felt so young compared to him. She was awfully young, though. He was a good one hundred and thirty eight years older than she was. Wow. She wondered then what the year was. She had been extremely out of touch with the world. For all she knew, World War III could have erupted and the president could have been Paris Hilton. She laughed at the thought mentally. That would be offly interesting. She had a feeling the whole blond jokes and dumb blondes could have started with her. She knew that she was quite stupid.

So she was still young, but not newborn young. "Do you know what it was that Maria was interested in you?" She did not have the strength of a newborn, did she possess a certain gift? Those always seemed to fascinate Maria . . . as his gift had once done. "Surely there was a reason." He added, and then realized he had better warn her once again. "If she attempts to tempt you into joining her cause, I do beieve it would be in your best interest to decline. Becoming involved with her affairs is not the wisest decision."

That was a good question. Why was Maria interested in her? Deline furrowed in her eyebrows. She listened to what he said, taking each word into consideration. "I don't know why she was interested in me. Since she is apparently dangerous, it might have to do with the fact I lunged for her throat and am still living." That was her best guess. She knew that lunging for Maria had not been one of her brightest ideas. She was alive after doing it, which had to mean something, so she thought. Though, that might just be because she was a fast runner.

Maria must have loved that. "I am uncertain as to what her specific plans are, however, I must urge you to stay clear of her. Nothing she has ever done has benefited anyone other than herself." Jasper was not sure what kind of vampire Deline was, but from her emotions, she did not seem like an overly aggressive, violent, uncontrollable blood thirsty vampire, the kind that Maria would attempt to persuade to join her cause. "You do not seem like the kind of vampire that would wish to affiliate with her. I may not know you well, however, I know Maria and I know what sort of things she makes her soldiers do, and the false promises she offers them."
