 Jasper was nervous returning to the house after being gone several hours following the incident that took place. He wondered if Edward was even home . . . or if he was with Bella. Part of him hoped he was with Bella . . . but the less cowardly side of Jasper wanted to get through the confrontation, apologize and hopefully . . . that would be the end of it. After being convinced by Alice to return back to the house, he complied and was not hesitantly making his way there.
He saw Edward's car in the driveway . . . though that meant little. He still could be with Bella, just with an alternate form of transportation: his two legs. He entered the house, noticing the quiet atmosphere. Alice was not by his side . . . perhaps that was why he felt so reluctant. But he did need to do this on his own. Apologize for his mistake . . . his massive mistake. He imagined Edward would be very angry with him. If someone had tried to kill Alice, Jasper would have been furious. But then again . . . it was different with Bella: she was human. Jasper quickly cleared his mind of these thoughts. They were not going to help him around Edward . . . he doubted he would appreciate Jasper's train of thought.

The Masochistic Lion ]Edward paced back and forward his head full of his own thoughts and the thoughts of his family. He was frustrated, yes. But there was also a deep-seated anger that was bubbling below the surface. If it wasn't for Bella, he would have probably went after Jasper blinded by red. His love for her had saved Jasper.
Bella was like a fragile rag doll in the hands of a small child when she was with his family and himself. She was so breakable, any slight mess up could lead to her death. It tore at Edward to even consider the thought of Bella's death. It would not only destroy him but probably lead to his own death. He would end his own life just in the hope that he could once again be reunited with her in death. If she died there was no way he was staying alive.
This ... Incident, had opened his eyes to the bigger picture. Bella would always be in danger as long as the Cullen's were around, as long as he was around.
Edwards anger began to slowly dissipate. He was no longer gunning for Jasper's head on a plate. In fact, he wanted to thank him. Not for hurting Bella, but for opening his eyes and showing him that he was a bad thing for her.
And by the sounds of it ... He was about to get his hand shake.

Jasper could feel his brother's presence in the house. He began to enter, standing up straight and trying not to display any signs of hesitation. Of course, Edward could hear every thought in Jasper's head, so he would be aware of his reluctance. There was not much he could keep hidden from him. And still, Jasper wanted to vocalize his apology instead of taking the coward's way out by simply thinking it.
"Edward," he greeted, very formally but his voice laced with concern. He could feel a wave of different emotions from him; he did not know how his brother was going to react to seeing the vampire who had nearly killed the woman he loved. "How is Bella?" He asked. Perhaps it was a bad subject to immediately bring up, but Jasper wanted him to know that he was in fact concerned, and that he had not meant to do what he did. He needed to say these things . . . just thinking them was not enough.

The Masochistic Lion Edward turned calmly in the direction Jasper had entered. His face a perfect mask. He knew that Jasper would know exactly how he was feeling, but he needed to try and calm himself completely down and show Jasper that he was in fact not as angry as he expected.
" Jasper." Edward replied as soon as the words left his brothers lips. When Jasper continued to asked about Bella, Edward felt a twinge of anger bubble under his perfect facade. But as soon as it had appeared, it disappeared. He remembered why he was talking to Jasper and not attacking.
" Bella is fine. " He said grudgingly. He felt that she had been hurt badly, but to Bella the danger magnet, it had been no more than a normal day. " I took her home after Carlisle saw to her wounds. " Edward made his voice exaggerate the last part. [/color] |

Jasper could feel his brother's anger . . . though it was short lived. Jasper was not going to use his own abilities to calm down Edward. Whatever anger Edward had, he needed to express it; even if that meant hitting Jasper. He could only imagine how angry he was over the fact that he had attacked the woman that he loved. Jasper would have been livid. He could not blame Edward for feeling that way towards him.
"I am relieved to hear that," he said, once Edward revealed the fact that Bella was fine, or at least going to be. Jasper just hoped he had not traumatized her too much. Alice had briefly told him of Bella's wounds, and while Jasper wanted to ask how severe they were, he knew better than to bring up that part before aplogizing. "Edward, I am sincerely sorry for my actions." Words were not enough. "I realize that my words may mean nothing under the circumstances . . . I lost control, and I have no excuse for myself. I have no justification for my actions. All I can do is hope that one day, you will forgive me." Jasper was not sure when that would be, though he had to admit that he was a little surprised Edward was not more angry than he was right now.

The Masochistic Lion Edward drew himself up to his full height and walked, at human speed, to wards Jasper closing the small space between them. His eyes focused in on his brothers and in the calmest voice he could muster he began, " You are forgiven, Jasper. Not only by me. You know Bella, she would never hold your laps in control against you. " Edward knew Bella, like Bella knew Edward. They had very few secrets between each other ... If any at all. They knew how to read each other perfectly, even though Edward could not penetrate her mind.
The actions that had to be taken to keep his love safe was going to be devastating on the whole family and to Bella. But deep down Edward hoped she would move on and forget the Cullen family, forget him.
" Jasper, today you have opened my eyes to how naive i was being. I wanted to have Bella and i took her. But by doing so i put her life in danger every second i am with her. Every second she spends with this family. She is the lamb in a cage of hungry wolves. " Edward broke his look with Jasper and began to pace this time however he was going at vampire speed. It was hard for him to say these things but he knew they had to be shared.
" She isn't safe around us and if anything were to happen to her, i just couldn't live with myself. That is why i have come to the decision to break ties with Bella. To keep her safe and alive " Edwards voice was laced with raw pain as the words spewed from his mouth. It was literally killing him to convey his plan. [/color] |

Jasper would not let himself off as easy as Edward was. Alice had been right; Edward was all too forgiving to Jasper, and he was blaming himself for what had happened. Jasper did not speak though, instead, he listened to his brother speak his mind . . . and his words made Jasper feel all the more guilty about his actions. He could not lie to Edward and try to convince him that Bella was safe with a group of vampires, but he could not accept that he may be the reason Edward was going to distance himself from her.
"It is a complicated situation," Jasper began, unsure how to express support and yet remain truthful. "My inability to control myself only proved that I am not ready to socially converse with humans. It only further demonstrated my lack of self control, and that it is safer to keep humans away from me as much as possible." Though Jasper was ashamed of being so weak, he knew that he could not deny what was blatantly obvious.
"Do not let my weakness be the reason that you keep apart from Bella. The others were fine with her around. Esme, Carlisle, Alice . . . they all adore her, so please, do not let me be the reason to deprive you of the woman you love, and whom the others are so fond of." Jasper purposely left out Rosalie, knowing that his sister was not particularly close to Bella. It was not because she was human though . . . Rosalie had no problem with self control. "I have seen the way you are around her dear brother. You would not hurt her. I can keep my distance, and among the others . . . she would be safer than she would be if I were present." The pain Jasper felt from Edward was overwhelming, and it only encouraged him to try and make his brother feel more at ease; not with his gift, but rather, with words.

The Masochistic Lion " I understand that the family loves Bella, as i do and i'm sure as you do. But i can't keep putting her in danger. Our very presence could be harmful to her. I blinded myself with love. I blinded the family with my happiness. I thought that our relationship could be like your relationship with Alice, or Rosalie with Emmett. But Bella is no vampire, " Edward paused and added in a darker more pain felt voice, " Nor shall she ever be. I refuse to bring her into this life, no matter how much she wishes it so. "
It hurt Edward to say these things. He wanted so much for Bella to be with him forever. But these kinds of thoughts were selfish. In the interest of Bella's safety he would do what he believed was best. " You feel responsible for this, but you shouldn't. This is my decision and i pray you trust me. I will speak to Carlisle later and arrange our departure. " Edward turned to face away from Jasper his face pained. If he could cry he was sure that ... Man or not he would be let his emotions take control.
" Then when everything is set, i'll say goodbye to bella. Over time ... It'll be as though i never existed. She will forget me and move on with her life. " [/color] |
