.:Family:. Daughter – Isabella Swan, Ex-wife – Renee Dwyer, Parents - Geoffrey and Helen Swan.
.:History:. While they loved each other, Charlie and Renee were not married for very long. Their daughter, Bella, was born in September of 1988 and they were divorced by March of 1989, since Renee could not stand being trapped into a small town. Charlie didn’t follow Renee when she left, even though he wanted to. While he loved the small town life, Charlie’s parents were both still alive, but just barely. He was responsible for caring for them. He didn’t choose Forks over his wife; he chose his responsibility to his sick parents. Although he has now been divorced for seventeen years, he has never really gotten over his ex-wife, nor moved on.
When she was little, Bella would come to visit for one month in the summer. When she was fourteen, she put her foot down and required vacations elsewhere with her father. They usually went to California. It was fun, but Charlie missed having his daughter at home.
When Renee remarried, Bella asked to move home to Forks. This was wonderful for him, but he was a little uncertain as the reasons. Charlie did everything he could to make Bella feel at home, even buying her a truck. His life wasn’t grand but Bella seemed to fit in just right. He wasn’t sure how to show it, or tell her that he was glad she was here but he was. Bella seemed to not mind his old habits, and even started to like Forks.
The worse day of Charlie’s life was not when his wife left him, or his parents died. It was when his daughter left him in the middle of the night and Charlie was unable to stop her. Bella would come back to him but he could tell that this, boyfriend, had something to do with her leaving. Charlie’s positive view on the Cullen kids would change after that. Getting worse in some areas (Edward) and better in others (Alice).
