The smaller (smaller horse sized) grey wolf that was in the processes of running as hard as she could, was Leah showing off. If you had to be the only chick in the world of men, might as well be the best at something and make sure they know it.
Leah had forgot who was going to be running patrol with her this time. She guessed she would hear them soon enough and find out. There had been that odd way to sweet sent the other day. That meant one of the blood suckers was getting mighty close to La Push.
It meant, the hunt was on...[Open to any other werewolf whenever we get one]

Quil was patrolling today. Though he enjoyed it, he would rather another wolf to patrol with. Either Jacob or Emery...but as luck had it, he was with Leah and he would have to make do with the situation.
Slow down Leah!
She was so fast, and she knew it. Seldom was there a moment where she did not try to show off. Quil was a decent sized wolf, but even with all his strength and all his speed, he could not keep up with her.
How are we supposed to patrol together if you keep running off way ahead?!

'Speed up' She countered with a snide laugh. It sounded more like muahahahahahaha, then a friendly hehe. 'Tell you what, you run your heart out and I will see how many times I lap you.'
Leah knew they had work to do. They were on the look out for a leach. Protecting LaPush. She just wanted to have a normal life life, and bar that, make everyone in her abnormal life miserable. 'Hows the pedophile life going?' Leah was both very disgusted and slightly jealous over Quil's imprinting. She wanted to imprint, however NOT to a two year old. Ugh!

Quil rolled his eyes. He was really, really, REALLY wishing he got someone else to patrol with today...maybe he could make a recommendation to Sam. No. He was not that whiny. He would endure her teasing and irritating tendencies.
This isn't a competition Leah! Find other ways to build your self confidence. Ones which don't involve trying to get my completely out of breath so that I can't do my job properly.
As if he was not annoyed enough, her next question made it even worse. He was already very insecure with his relationship with Claire...his non-sexual relationship with the infant. He did not enjoy being teased about you.
You know full well that that's not how it works.
He was trying not to think about her right now...but it was very hard. He missed every moment he was not with her. He already had developed a brother-sister kind of relationship with her...maybe if he thought about her so much, it would annoy Leah..........maybe.
Since you like to run ahead...any sign of the blood suckers?

'Don't get defensive! She's not MY baby niece!' Leah chuckled at him but slowed down, to humor him. He was stronger (by allot), and taller (muchly), and dumber (muchly allot), but she was (helluva) lot faster. Hehehe!
Not that being wolf pleased her. It annoyed her at first, then angered her, then she grew bitter, then mean. She wasn't here to make friends with over size dumb teenage boys who couldn't control their tempers. She didn't want to be friends, nor even be here. 'I don't smell anything new, just yesterday's scents.'

Had he been like he was before he met Claire...he would have exploded. But Claire had given him a more calm demeanor. He wanted her to look up to him...he didn't want her to see him as some crazy guy who kept picking fights. If he was going to take care of her as a brother at this age, then he was going to have to be a good role model. Considering all the time he spent with her...she was bound to be learning things from him. He wanted those to be positive things...not bad ones.
Don't talk about her like she's some victim of my pervyness..
Jacob, Emery, Sam...they all understood. So WHY did he have to be stuck with the one werewolf who would make him feel horrible about his imprinting.
Alright. Fine. Then you can just go back home, and I'll keep patrolling.
That was Quil's not so subtle attempt to get rid of her so that he could wander in peace.

'Yeah, so you can find something and I can get yelled at for letting you die.' Leah said and mentally snorted at him. She didn't care if he did explode. She was faster, and further away from him. He wouldn't get close enough to touch her. 'Look Romeo, I don't like being partnered with jail bait, any more then you like being partnered with a chick who can out run our slow furry butt. If I had my way I would be--' Leah stopped thinking that line and focused on a brick wall in her head. She did not want to finish that thought. It was dangerous, to let any of THEM know, how broken hearted she still was.
'Look, just run your patrol and try no to think about about what type of dippers she's wearing under her jammies.' Leah implied the comment the way some adult might imply a guy was thinning about what type of sexy underwear a girl was wearing. She was calling him a prev.

I won't die. I'm not an idiot Leah. I don't need you to protect me...I can take care of myself. And hey, IF I did die...then at least you can do what you do best and brag with your little I-told-you-so routine
If it meant that she would leave him in peace, then he would try to convince her that he did not need her (of all people...or wolves) to babysit him. And as if she wasn't mouthing off enough...she went on and on and...on.
I hate being partnered with someone who can't say anything nice unless she's talking about herself. And for that reason...I'm finding this patrol as miserable as the wolf I'm patrolling with.
He did not care speaking his mind. In fact...he had no choice. It was nearly impossible to hide anything from the pack. When they transformed, their thoughts and opinions were no longer private or personal...they were not their own; they belonged to all the other members of the pack.
If I had my way...you wouldn't be here either. So quit insulting me about something you know is out of my control!
He was annoyed. But Quil wasn't oblivious either. He knew that in some weird way, others were jealous that he had imprinted on someone. It was because he was truly happy. It was because he was devoted to someone and that everlasting devotion was very strong. If Leah kept offending him...he would eventually pull out that card and use it on her.

It was another day of patrolling. Leah and Quil were supposed to be on now, Sam would join them shortly. He just had to make a stop at home to check up on his fiance, Emily Young. If he could he'd spend all day with her, but as of right now, that was impossible. After spending a mere twenty minutes with his love he unwillingly pulled himself from her, bounding down the front step of their home.
A few minutes later and he was in the cover of the trees, removing his pants in a swift movement and tying them to his leg like most of them did. It took him a split second to phase into his wolf form. Once there he shook his shaggy, black fur out of habit. He immediately took notice to the two other wolfs that made their presence in his mind now. He also caught wind of their conversation, and he was not amused. He hated out they all enjoyed pushing each others buttons. Well, mostly Leah, but they all did it at some point. 'Knock it off you two,' he scolded, 'You have a job to do.' He now ran in the direction of the perimeter they were all supposed to be patrolling.
He kept his words of warning simple. Not wanting to single either of them out. But as he caught the thoughts that Quil last had, he did. 'Don't even,' Sam growled. Though Leah was being more bitter, Sam wouldn't tolerate anyone pulling that card on her.

Leah was about to comment on Quil's thoughts and aim low with a hard hit that would have really pissed him off, when Sam's voice showed up in her head. 'I didn't start it.' Leah said quickly more to annoy them both more, then trying to defend her self. 'There is nothing out here, today. Everything I've crossed is old scents so far. AND,' Leah went on to remind them all that she was better then them in some way, 'I've crossed allot, really fast.'
Leah had slowed down for Quil, (A rare kindness) but with Sam here to humor the slow poke, Leah moved faster. She knew she wouldn't hold this speed to long, but it would at lest put her physically away from them for a bit.

Quil did not push it. When Sam told him not to do something...well, he wasn't stupid enough to do it. Besides, he didn't have any backup right now and he wasn't exactly stupid enough to pick a fight with Sam.
Whatever Leah. If you weren't so annoying...
His voice trailed off. There was no point in arguing with her. Now Sam was here to keep the peace...which didn't really last so long as Leah was one of the people involved.
Sam, can you tell Leah to stop trying to show off and that we work as a pack. This isn't a one man...or one woman, show. He was tattling on Leah and he did not care if it was immature. She was bothering him. Oh! And tell her to quite talking about Claire! You said it was normal right? She keeps insulting her and calling my imprinting...pedophilia. Yes...Quil really was tattling. He was just so sick of how Leah spoke to him. He wanted it to stop.

Sam shook his head as he pushed himself faster. He didn't mind Leah's speed, but it got old when she'd constantly shoved it in their faces. Sam was patient with her...the others, not so much.
'Alright, well keep running the line,' he told them, 'I'm sure something will show up sooner or later.' He slowed his speed down, no reason to push himself too hard if there was nothing new out there.
He listened as Quil complained about Leah. 'Just ignore it,' Sam told him, 'Let her run ahead if she wants.' It wasn't a contest to see who could find the scent first, but for some reason all of them thought of it as such. Their job was to just protect La Push, not argue and try to one-up each other. 'Don't push yourself too much,' he added to Leah.
'You're imprinting on Claire was not abnormal, just uncommon,' Sam defended. It was true though, it was thought to be just another story, that one of them could imprint on someone so young. They should just start believing all the legends...they all were starting to turn out true. 'Leah, knock it off about the Claire thing,' he huffed. He rolled his large, dark eyes, this job was like watching a bunch of little kids....

had Quil just tattled on her? 'Fine, I will NOT comment on his imprinting but I will say his behavior is becoming more two year old then teenaged boy.' Leah wanted to make a face at him behind Sam's back but knew that with the mind link Sam would know anyway.
Leah was running and trying to think of nothing but the threes around her, in order to follow orders. Tall trees, short trees, green trees....green trees. The smells, clean air, fresh dew, moss, vampire, a rotting log a--Vampire?
She came to a dead halt, and turned her noise into the smell. UGH! 'I found something.' It was only hours old. The rest of the scents she had caught today had been from a day or so ago. Damn Leeches! If they had not come here, and had not keep coming here then she could have had a normal life! Leah started to run and follow the scent, but not at her fastest. She wanted the others to catch up to her now.

Sam ignored Leah's next comment as he continued to do his job. He kept his nose low to the ground as he ran, checking for any unknown or new scent. Though Leah had explained that there had been no change from the new scent they had caught days ago, it was still necessary to check, re-check, and check again. It was necessary to be thorough. The vampire they were dealing with was an escape artist, somehow constantly managing to avoid them. He could sense where the other two were, see what they could see. Leah was further ahead, actually way ahead from Sam's location.
Keeping his pace steady he continued on, focusing more-so on what he was doing rather than the other two. It wasn't until he could sense Leah's halt that he paid attention. Focusing now on her thoughts instead of his own he picked out her location and bolted full speed in her direction before she even announced what she had found. Adrenaline pushed him toward her at his fastest speed. 'Wait for us,' he announced. He could not let Leah continue to follow the scent alone, the vampire could still be close by and Leah was not experienced enough to take on one on by herself. Sam ignored her thoughts of a 'normal' life. That was not possible now, but it would do him no good to try to go over that concept again.
Sam could now see Leah in the distance, passing the area where she had first noticed the scent. It was definitely fresh. 'I don't know if they'd still be around,' he explained, 'But follow where it goes and stick together.'

'You're imprinting on Claire was not abnormal, just uncommon'
Quil clung onto those words as if they were the very ones which would keep his sanity. Even though he defended himself (mostly to Leah since she was the only one who decided to make indecent jokes about it)...he still felt unsure about the entire thing. Of course, those uncertainties and uneasy feelings would vanish whenever he was actually with Claire- he needed to stop thinking about her. At least for right now...while he was supposed to be working.
Thanks Sam.
He commented, expressing his gratitude and fought the feeling to give Leah a big, fat 'I TOLD YOU SO!' It was hard to ignore her when she was in his head. But with Sam joining them, it would be easier.
The conversation became professional as Leah caught a scent, and they were to follow it.
I'm almost caught up to her.
Thank god she was slowing down! He ran towards where she was, and while there was still distance between them, he could at least have a visual of her. Sam was also visible. The three of them had finally caught up with each other......which technically meant that, him and Sam had finally caught up with Leah.
She's right. It reeks!
He followed instruction, remaining on the trail of the scent.
You getting any blood or anything Leah?
Since she was still a little ahead, she would have the first whiff of a new smell...until he completely caught up to her. Hopefully there wouldn't be any...if there was blood, it meant that an innocent person had become. All so they could eat. It was disgusting. Down right revolting!

'Nothing yet but there is a 2nd smell I can't place.' She could place but it was such a random smell it made no since, It was cooked meat of some kind, with a faint human sent mixed in with it. The smell of sweat. Vampires didn't eat cooked human food. Leah had a thought in the back of her mind, thinking about how it was warm today. Some family could have taken a pinic hike or cooked out. If the smells were crossing, then...
She didn't think it. Damn leaches! The smell was old so either way they were to late. 'I think I should run ahead. I am faster and I can track it to see where it goes, make up for lost time!' Leah didn't like people dieing on her watch, (or at all). Besides, she might as well be good for something since apparently the gene pool kicked her out of being good for anything else.
[Not sure if we said what time of day this was so let me know if I need to edit.]

Bounding faster, pushing his muscles as hard as he could he followed behind the gray wolf. The adrenaline continued to course through him, pushing him still faster until he was finally beside Leah. Quil was there too, not far behind. His thoughts were on the revolting eating habits of the vampires. 'Yes, it's disgusting,' Sam agreed, 'But focus on what we're doing, not the nastiness of how they consume the blood.'
With his nose sniffing the air around them as they passed, he too caught the mixture of scents as Leah did. Growling as he listened to Leah explain what he already knew. 'Dammit,' he cursed aloud. How could this be happening yet again? How did the damn bloodsucking monsters manage to escape their patrolling all the time. It was getting quite frustrating and down right annoying.
Though Sam didn't want to let anyone go ahead, he knew Leah's logic was right. They needed some sort of lead, and with her being the fastest she could catch anything before they could. 'Go ahead,' he told her, 'But stay at a pace we'd be able to catch up with.' He ignored the thoughts she emanated about not being good for anything but her speed. It was a lost battle as soon as it was brought up, there was no turning Leah's thoughts around.

Sam didn't get his full approval out before Leah bolted the other way and started tracking the sent. She heard him think about not liking it but let go anyway. She was glad she was getting to go ahead. Part of her liked to be out in the lead. Not calling the shots but there, able to do something besides follow orders.
She moved a a faster speed until she put distance between then and her and then slowed, both to not tire her self and to track better. The sent was maybe two or three hours old, but very traceable, with someone with their noise.

Yeah right
Quil muttered to himself...though he knew it was not only him who could hear what he was saying. He just had a feeling Leah was not going to be at a pace that they could keep up with. She was bad enough when she didn't have the go ahead to speed up in front of them...it was worse when she got permission while they were tracking.
Way to slow down Leah!
Quil exclaimed, running as fast as he could just to keep her in his line of sight. Unfortunately, there was a reason Sam let her bolt ahead. It was because she could cover more ground .....ground that he was still trying to run on.
Sam, I think next time you should put her on a leash.
Quil thought his comment was rather amusing because it could be taken literally. They were wolves after all. He went back to business when Leah slowed.
See anything yet?
Quil was eager. If he was not there to see it himself, he wanted to know as much as possible.

At the word leash, Leah not only slowed down but came to an almost sudden stop. Oh My Good Lord! You did N-O-T just say that to M-E?' Leah said in her head, as she had to force her self not to turn around and run at him to kill him on the spot. 'You pedophile-ing little pervert! How dare you!' She snapped.
Had the scent of vampire not been so strong--Leah caught him thinking about how funny his comment was, and she did turn around, and run at him, teeth bared and a growl filling the woods.
