Jasper prepared himself for the small training session he was going to have. His knowledge on how to defeat newborn vampires deemed him an expert and he was to teach his family members how to fight. Well . . . how to fight a certain way. It was not an easy thing to kill newborns; Jasper was fully aware of that. He had become . . . an expert. It was not something he was proud of, but in this instance, it was something that put them at an advantage. It was going to be how they won this battle.
Their moves had to be strategic. Quick. Swift. They could not afford to lose one second. The newborns had no concept of self control . . . they would go after any of them, and kill them so long as that was that their commander told them. Jasper's mind wandered to Maria and how he had been so willing to do absolutely anything for her. She had so much power over him . . . and he had been nothing less than a servant to her.
Jasper slightly pulled up his sleeve, exposing part of a small crescent shaped scared. It was a permanent reminder of what he had been. And his life now showed how much he had changed. Now . . . he was killing newborns, and teaching others how to do the same, not because some power-hungry, ruthless vampire was telling him to. But because it would protect his family.
And so, covering his arm once again, he waited in a small opening in the woods. It was dark, so that they would not attract unwanted attention. Jasper was ready. Now . . . he was just waiting for the others.

------ ---In the simplest most polite terms she could think on, this was the stupidest thing they have ever done. By they she meet Edward, who she blamed for this mess. While Rose had learned to open to Bella and yes, even like her in a way, this mess could have been avoid.
---Rose didn't like the idea of the risk of losing Emmett, who was more brute force then planned attacked. Emmett was bouncing off the walls waiting for this to start. Rose was just growing angry. She was not going to take it out of Jasper. She was going to TRY not to take it out of Jasper. Rose walked into the clearing and stopped. She was far enough away that humans would have to yell but she knew Jasper would hear her when she spoke, "I came early. The others will be here later." Edward was fetching Bella.

Jasper watched Rosalie approach and immediately detected her hate and dislike for this entire operation. He gave a short nod in response to her explanation regarding the absence of the others. "Rosalie. You are so angry." Jasper was not quite asking her . . . but rather making a statement out of it.
"Are you able to fully concentrate?" He was not trying to offend her, but he needed her to be fully attentive. They could not afford numerous training sessions. This was one of the few that they would be able to squeeze in before the time actually came. If she was too angry . . . he may not be able to teach her to the best of her and his abilities.

------ ---"Dose it matter?" Rose asked a bit angry but also trying to calm down. She was mainly angry at Victoria if she let her mind this that far, for doing this to her family. "I will feel the same that night as I do now."
---Rose started walking slowly to him, "Dose it bother you to be around me like this?" Knowing his power she wondered if she should just learn second hand from Emmett. Most times there fighting turned to....more fun hands on games but they could focus. [/quote]

As she came closer, he did not move. He did not flinch. His face was expressionless as always. His posture straight and his hands were folded behind him. Everything about his stance demonstrated that of a military man. Her anger did not cease, and Jasper's did not grow. He was -- as always -- calm in his demeanor. "It matters if our lives depend on it." Though he said it, he was confident that his family would prevail. He just wanted to make sure Rose was okay . . . and that her emotions would not interfere with her actions.
"No." His answer was direct, and truthful. While he spoke about her emotions interferring with what she was doing . . . he did not let her emotions distract him. He had learned to distance himself (or at least try to) from the feelings of others around him. Rosalie's anger did not bother him. It did not emanate onto him. "As long as you are sure." He was not going to spend hours arguing about her capabilities. He knew she would be able to do it. But still . . . since no one else was around, it was better to ask her now than ask her when Edward came.

------ ---Rose gave a slight wince when he spoke of their lives depending on it. Jasper saw her anger as a weakness. It might be. Rose saw it as something she could use. "I'm sure." She almost snapped out but managed to keep her voice calm. "I'm not going to be the weak link."
---Rose in truth was the most worried about Esme. Rose could handle this, and she would worry about Emmett and when it was over, she would drag him to a over priced country, make him marry her again and spend a month in bed. However, for now, she was here to learn, "I can use it. I've learn to use it."

"Do not be worried Rosalie. Our family has a great advantage." Not only were they stronger and knowledgeable, and experienced of course . . . to everyone's shock, they had the wolves on their side. That was definitely going to make a difference. A wolf could kill a vampire, and they had so many . . . Jasper was very confident. Though, it was natural to worry about loved ones.
Now . . . it was time to get to work.
"Newborns," Jasper began. "As I am sure you know they are extremely strong. They will not think before acting, which is why our moves much be strategic. They are not subtle. They will be expecting the obvious, and so . . . there are two things which you must always keep in mind. The first one is do not let them get their arms around you, and the second is not to go for the obvious kill. They will be expecting it." He paused there, looking at Rosalie and waiting to see if she had any questions. Since it was just the two of them, they could spare some time since he was fairly certain he would be teaching this over again.

------ ---"I'm not worr--" She stopped the lie seeming to remember who she was talking to. As he went on she was glad he wasn't going to be all Edward and tell her he knew she was worried. When he he was sure she knew that newborns were strong Rose gave a sarcastic giggle. Everyone keep saying that. She knew it, but still. Had everyone forgotten it was ROSE who had dealt with EMMEETT when he was a supper strong newborn? Granted, his goal at not been to kill her, but to kid blood and drink it, and if he had touched her there was no pain...ok.. Rose smiled, there at been a good kind of pain.
---Knowing Jasper would feel THAT emotion, and not wanting him to think it was about the upcoming fight or worse, about him, Rose stopped thinking of Emmett. "Obvious kill?"

Jasper did not go back to her denial about being worried. She may lie . . . but he could feel the truth. "Rosalie, please." Jasper did not want to sense what Rosalie was feeling right now . . . wherever her mind was taking her to feel a certain way was somewhere Jasper did not want to follow. "Concentrate." His tone was authoritative, but not harsh. When he had to lead someone, he would lead them and that included making sure they were paying attention.
"Meaning, that you approach them from the side. And you keep moving. As long as you remain in motion, they will be confused for they will not be expecting it." It was a shame Emmett was not here. He would have used him as an assistant. "We must not rely on our strength." Aka Emmett must not rely on his strength. Jasper had a feeling Rose would clue in on that, since Emmett was the strongest of them all. "In this fight, we must rely on strategic movements. It must be thought out. We can not be too impulsive."

------ ---Rose has the grace to blush when Jasper reacted to THAT emotion. Oops. She wasn't going to comment on it however. Not willing to embarrass them both more. Rose heard him make comments that made her think of Emmett who was all brute strengths and while he could think first he was more into just fighting. Worry flooded her, which again made her angry at this Victoria who would go so far.
---"I can do that. It sounds easy enough. Be quick, keep moving, rip apart and then move around and rip more."

Thank goodness her lustful and passionate thoughts for Emmett had come to an end . . . for now. Now a new emotion overcame her: worry. "Do not underestimate them though," he added. To think this was easy was a mistake. "They struggle quite a bit Rosalie. The bite marks on my skin is evidence of that. To not think they are that easy to defeat." Jasper had decades of practice . . . he was used to it, but an army of newborn vampires was always a threat.

------ ---Now she was annoyed, and partly at Jasper. "So don't be worried but don't be confident. Don't think it will be easy but don't think it will be hard! Your playing devil's advocate Jasper!" Rose did not mean to snap at him but worry for Emmett, and Esme and they way he seemed to read her moods and say what he needed to do to balance her out was getting more annoying then it usually was.
---"I came here to practice. Should I attack you, or should you attack me?"

Jasper stood calmly and let her get her outburst out. He was not going to argue with her . . . so he just stood very still and let her say whatever she needed to say. Very calmly, he replied. "I am merely reminding you of all things Rosalie." He was not one to lose his temper often . . . but he also never expected everyone else to maintain theirs.
"Whatever you wish." He would have made a comment about her already attacking him, but he was not stupid. He knew when the joke could be taken lightheartedly and when it was going overboard and adding heat to the already burning flame. "I am prepared for either." Perhaps leaving the choice to her would make her a bit . . . calmer. Maybe.

------ ---"You be the newborn and I try to take you down?" Rose asked to make sure she was on the same page, then started to circle Jasper. "Keep moving." She was behind him and moved quickly in and pulled a bit at his shoulder, but only enough to let him know she was there, not to hurt him.

Carlisle slowed as she got to the far end of the meadow, and came to a full stop as he watched Rosalie and Jasper talk, and start to practice. Carlisle took a long, slow breath as he thought over what was to come. A fight. He hated the idea of killing so many innocents. Humans used as pawns in Victoria's quest for revenge. It was such a waste and a horrible one that should have been avoided.
Carlisle's eyes went to Jasper's scars as he thought. He wanted to protect his family, he wanted them safe. He knew the only way to do that was when Victoria died. It seemed either way, this ended with death. Carlisle sighed again.

Esme stood beside Carlisle. They came here to practice, practice how to kill newborns. Esme hated this thought, nearly as much as Carlisle did. She didn't think any of their family looked forward to this completely, except for maybe Emmett. He always enjoyed a good fight.
But Esme was worried about her family. At the thought she reached out and grabbed Carlisle's hand, intertwining her fingers between his, and gave his hand a gentle squeeze. They couldn't let anything happen to their family. And Esme would do anything to protect them, even if it meant killing their kind.
She watched as Rosalie circled Jasper, their practicing had already begun. The fight was inevitable, so they had to do what they could now to prepare themselves. Esme let out her own sigh just as Carlisle did. She briefly turned to look at him before returning her attention back to Rosalie and Jasper.

Though Jasper knew Carlisle and Esme had approached to join the lesson, he dd not divert his attention from Rosalie to greet them or comment on their presence. He could feel their reluctance, and because he knew them . . . he expected it. Nor Esme or Carlisle were violent people and so what they had to do would be extremely difficult for them. He could not let their emotions cloud his current state of mind however. So he focused on Rosalie. He put all of his attention on her, and on acting as a new born would.
He slightly crouched, getting into an attacking position and charged forward to her. Hopefully, if she kept his strategy in mind, then he would not get her; then the newborns would not get her.

------ ---Rosalie had not wanted a full audience, and that was why she had showed up early to train with Jasper. Once others were around she would have distractions. However, it was not Carlisle that would distract her. Esme was. Esme who did not have a evil bone in her body was here to learn to kill and bring down vampires.
---It angered her, and with the anger, when Jasper attacked, Rose barely moved out of the way, in time. Which she was moving quickly she went to 'attack' his side and used a bit more force then she should have with Jasper. Not enough to do any real damage but his shirt now had a hole. Rose have a hiss of frustration. She needed to focus so she tried to block Esme and Carlisle from her thoughts.

Carlisle reached over and took Esme's hand as he watched Rose attack Jasper. It was unsettling to watch his family train for this. "Part of me still hopes we are very wrong. That for once Alice is wrong. That our 'friends' from Italy will step in and stop them before they get here." He spoke softly to Esme.
He was speaking quickly, and got all of it out before Rosalie had finished her attack, when she took parts of Jasper's shirt with her, Carlisle's back stiffened. No, he was not looking forward to the days ahead. Letting out a final sigh, he looked down at his wife. "Shall we join them?"

Esme gave Carlisle's hand another gentle squeeze. "As do I," she whispered back. She wished with all she had that it didn't have to be this way. But they all knew it wasn't going to happen any other way, and as far as they could tell with Alice's visions, the Volturi were not going to interfere anytime soon.
Esme's breath caught as she watched Rosalie attack Jasper. Please do not let anything happen to them...she said in her head. She looked up at Carlisle as he spoke again and nodded. She walked further into the meadow, keeping her hand attached to her husband's.

Jasper looked down at his ripped shirt. "Rosalie, you need to focus. You must remove all the distractions from your mind. There are going to be more diversions when the time comes." He looked at Esme and Carlisle and could feel their worry . . . he could feel Rosalie's anger. He needed to focus himself. He needed to remove everyone else's emotions and not let them cloud his concentration. He turned back to Rosalie.
"But excellent job. You did well to keep moving and to attack from the side. Again? Perhaps we should switch positions." While getting back into position, he looked once more at his adoptive parents. "Would either of you like to try?" He knew this was hard for them . . . but it was absolutely necessary for when the time came.

------ ---Rose knew she needed to focus and having him tell her that only annoyed her more. She was about to attack again when he looked over at Carlisle and Esme. Rose had planned to wait until he spoke with them before attacking again, but part of her wanted to be able to say 'focus Jasper'.
---She leaped at him in a quick movement and the rolled to the side and back. She had not touched him more then she had to in order to push him back on the ground. "I think I will stand over there and watch while one of the others takes a try."

Carlisle had been about to tell Jasper he would stand and watch, before Rose bowed out. He took a deep breath and lifted Esme's hand to his lips, kissing it before letting it go to walk closer to Jasper. "I would like to practice." Like might have been the wrong word but Carlisle was trying to not dwell on the killing that would come. "Tell me when your ready."
Carlisle moved so he was away from the girls and got into his own position. He hated that this was want his family would have to do. Fight or die. Carlisle wondered if they had killed Victoria, would they have been safe, but he also knew he could not have killed her with out something such as this bring them too it.

Esme smiled as Carlisle kissed her hand before retreating to where Jasper stood. Her smile fell and she stopped her breathing for a moment as Carlisle got into his own position for the lesson. She was dreading what their family would have to face in a few short days. Her family had never been in this much danger, none of them have ever really had to prepare to fight, aside from Jasper.
Esme looked away from Carlisle for the moment, she didn't want to look right now, she would look when she had to, to gain the knowledge they all would need for the fight. Her golden gaze instead turned to Rosalie, who looked frustrated and annoyed. "What's wrong?" Esme asked, though she was sure she already knew. Rosalie was as new to the fight as Esme, so things were bound to get frustrating when you're forced to learn something in a short amount of time.

------ ---"Everything is wrong." Rose said quietly to Esme, knowing the others would hear. "We shouldn't have to fight for our right to live! This whole mess wouldn't have happened if--" But Rose did not finish. At this point, it was wasted effort to remind them how she felt about this.
---"Jasper said we had to move--" Her fist balled, she was not pleased. If Victoria was here, she's kill her. "Emmett's so impulsive. What if his strength is not enough?" She was angry, yes, but that anger came from her worry.

Esme repressed a sigh, she didn't want to upset Rose further and talk to Rosalie about Bella. It was a lost cause and would end up in multiple people being upset. So she instead kept her comments to herself, Rose already knew how Esme felt on the subject. Rather, she glanced back to Carlisle and Jasper who were both still positioned waiting to begin.
Esme flashed her eyes back to Rosalie. "We can't think of the what-ifs Rosalie," Esme said quietly, "We will learn what we can from these lessons. Emmett knows how to take care of himself, he will learn how to fight the newborns." Esme's attempt at reassuring her daughter failed as the words quickly turned into worried reassurances of her own, both trying to assure Rose and herself. There was no way to not think and worry of the what-ifs.

------ ---Rose nodded her head. Yes, Emmett would learn. He would try and with Jasper's teaching, he could become of there strongest defense. Emmett, who loved a good fight, was the type to fight to win. They needed that win. When your fighting for your life, and your family you could not afford to become 2nd place in this.
---"It's more then Emmett I am worried over, Esme. It's you." Rose looked over at her, turning her body to face her, "And Carlisle. Your both very peaceful people and now your being forced to fight and kill in order to live. It's not right!" Rosalie blamed Victoria mostly but part of her blamed Edward too. His decisions had brought them to this. He could read minds! How could he not see Victoria would do something like this?

Esme turned to her daughter with a slight smile. "You don't need to worry about me Rosalie. I will take care of myself," she told her. But as her daughter mentioned Carlisle, Esme turned to glance back at her husband. Esme wasn't sure what she'd do if anything happened to him.
Esme sighed as she turned her gold colored eyes back to Rosalie's flawless face. "We protect our family Rosalie, we don't have a choice on this one," she murmured. "Everything will come out alright. And once we take care of this, we won't have to worry about anything anymore."

------ ---"We should not have to! We shouldn't have to even think about fighting for our lives. When Victoria started helping James, we should have taken her out then and there!" Rose made sure not to touch on the 'Bella Thing'. While she had started to like Bella, she still could not help but to think that if she had not been there that day, then they would all be safe at home! "I heard Edward wasn't even going to be here, when the attack."

"Rose, Victoria escaped us. There is nothing we can do about that now," she calmly told her. Esme thought back the first time they had stumbled upon James and Victoria. How Rosalie and her had been the ones to look over Victoria, make sure she didn't harm Bella's father, Charlie. "We can only take care of Victoria now," Esme added.
"Edward will be where he needs to be," Esme said, "We have plenty of people here. I'm sure it will be fine." Though Esme said she was sure, truly she wasn't. And wasn't sure she'd ever be. All knew she hated to see her family in danger.
