Her recent visit to Volterra, Italy (mostly to show Aro she was staying out of trouble and bribe her way in his his good graces) gave Maria allot to think about. Mostly Jasper Whitlock things. Oh she was bitter over him getting away. Then she finds out he left her (Cuaseing her to lost control of her army, and lose her city) and ran to . . . . . . .
Who were these Cullens? After leaving Aro in a huff and furry, Maria set off in a hurry to Forks. Not sure what she would do once there but one thing for sure was, she was going to have a word with Jasper. See if she could use the information she now had in order to get the one thing she wanted most. Her damn city back!
Three days later, Maria arrived in Forks.
(Jazz, I am assuming this is before blast from the past.)

Alice walked -- danced -- through the forest with Jasper, with not a worry on her head -- yet. The weather was very typical for Forks; cloudy and sunless, no rain, fortunately. Though the lack of sunlight, it was still bright outside; colours were very bright and vibrate -- not just to a vampire's eyes -- but the air was heavy. This didn't bother Alice, it hadn't stopped her from hunting earlier on that morning, nor did it stop her from doing anything else.
The tiny vamipre had a vision, then. It was a little shocking to her -- she stopped walking, looking blankly out at nothing momentairaly. She saw a female, most definitively a vampire, that she didn't recongnize, heading to Forms in a hurry. When she snapped back to reality, Alice tried to make sense of her vision, mainly trying to figure out who this woman was and why was she coming to Forms, in such a hurry as well.

Today was a day like any other. Though with the lack of sleep any of them experienced, it was more of a neverending day. The sun was hidden -- always an advantage to the vampires -- and he was walking in the forest with his beloved wife. He felt very content . . . happy even as he was not distracted by the burning hunger he often felt. After having hunted not too long ago, he was prepared for the next little while.
A small smile crept on his lips as he watched his energetic wife dance along the forest but the smile shortly faded after it was formed. Alice abruptly stopped and he could instantly feel a shift in her emotions. She went from being jovial and worry-free to suddenly feel extremely concerned. It meant only one thing . . . she was having a vision.
"Alice," he said, quickly changing his position so that he was directly in front of her, placing his hands on her shoulders in attempt to comfort her. Whatever vision she was having, surely it was not a good one. "What is it? What did you see?" It distressed him as much as it distressed her when she recieved less than a pleasant vision. He often wished she did not have to carry such a burden with her . . . but she seldom complained.

Alice felt Jasper's hands on her shoulders, she looked up at his concerned and worried face l, then back down again. "Somebody's coming. I don't... know who she is." She explained, her brows were pressed together in confusion, her eyes squwinting. The strange woman was coming, fast, probably already in Forks.
Alice shuddered as she realized the woman wasn't only in Forks but very close. "She's very close... and she's looking..." Alice racked her brain. "Looking for you." She concluded looking up at him, concerned, worried.

The wind was blowing their scent to her. Which meant they might not have smelled her yet. Maria knew the scent well. Jasper Whitlock. She was still angry, but knew of his gift with emotions. She took a moment to calm down enough that she would be able to pretend other wise if not hide it from him.
Circling them, she moved so they would pick up her scent in the wind. She wanted him to know she was coming. That warning prickle that his past had caught up with him. Whoever was with him was about to watch her ruin his day, for both making her look a foll in front of Aro but also for leaving her. For causing the lost of her city.

Jasper had not the time to ask who was approaching for moments after Alice's vision, he caught a scent . . . one that he had not experienced for many, many years. And one that he wished never to have experienced again since his departure from her all those years ago. It was Maria. Jasper -- for the first time -- had no plan, and was unsure as to what he should do.
He did not want Alice to meet her, but he did not want to make it look like he was hiding anything. He was very open with his wife about his past . . . he just wished it had not caught up with him. There was not a day that went by where Jasper did not hate himself for how he had been when he was a newborn -- and even the years that followed.
"Stay close to me Alice," he told her as he wraped his arm around her, while his eyes darted around looking for the source of the scent. He did not know what she wanted . . . but he could guess.

Alice looked up at Jasper, worry in her eyes, but she had to trust him; she always did. She could feel him tense up next to her and his arm wrap around her. His eyes were dark -- but still golden -- as he scanned the forest. Alice grasped the hand he had around her, and held it tightly.
"Left." She whispered to him. She had seen the mysetrious woman enter the clearing on their left side within a few seconds. The petite girl felt unease not knowing who the woman was and why Jasper was like this.

Maria was dressed in a pale white sun dress, and no shoes. It made her young features look even younger. She came slowly out, from behind a tree a few seconds after Alice had 'left'. Maria knew who Alice was. Knew of her power, and how she was Jasper's wife. Maria knew it all thanks to a very long and detailed talk with Aro, of the Volturi.
Her eyes held Jasper's. "Hello, Jasper." She said letting her voice drag out the vowels so it sounded four times as long as it should have. Her voice while still higher then humans, for a vampire her voice was deep and sensual, yet held a note of ominous.
Dropping her eyes to the small vampire in his arms, a slow and calculated smile formed on her lips, "Why don't you introduce me?"

It was not long until Maria revealed herself . . . she always enjoyed making an entrance. His gaze rested on her. It lacked the admiration and devotion he once had for her . . . so many years ago. Now, it was an empty expression. It was emotionless. It was nothing like it used to be. He had never expected to see her again since he had fled from her army. And now . . . here she was, in front of him and his wife and clearly, she was here for a reason.
"Maria," he greeted in a cold voice. He remained very close to Alice. His stance was a protective one, as if he was shielding her from the wrath of Maria which he knew had quite an impact. The fact that she was here in such a small town . . . well, she always loved attention and Forks was a place where she would certainly get it if she made a move. He did not however introduce them. By saying her name, he assumed Alice would understand why he was acting this way. He had to be cautious now.
"What are you doing here?" His tone was flat, and not quite as accusatory as one would assume. He was asking it as a legitimate question, expecting . . . no, demanding a response in the way he asked it. He no longer allowed her to hold the authoritative position. He was no longer under her command and he wanted to make that very clear.

Maria; Alice recalled Jasper had told her about this terrible female. The time her husband had spent with this woman was something they tried not to talk about it anymore, and Alice knew how much Jazz had gone through to get over his past, over the pain he felt -- he hated himself for killing so many of the innocent.
The minuscule girl tightened her hold on her husband's hand as he held her protectively, but it was he she was focused on protecting. Maria wasn't going to ruin Jasper's new life and all he had worked for. Alice hissed angrily at the cruel dark haired vampire. Unpleased.
Though Jazz was taking it calmly, which Alice found shocking. It was so hard for not to yell at this monster or rip her appart on the spot.

Maria made a tsk tsk sound when Jasper did not introduce her. When Alice hissed at her it only made a deep chuckle come rumbling out of her small chest. She was amused at this reaction. It meant Jasper had told his wife about her. Told her more then just the basics maybe? "Now, now. Lets not start off on the wrong foot. Lets try to remain civil now, shall we?"
Maria tilted her head while watching them closely. She was a wonderful judge of people. She was learning. Jasper would knew this, she was letting him see it to mostly annoy him. She wasn't here to play nice, but she had not plans laid yet. She knew better then to plan things. Aro had told her allot of Alice.

Jasper did not like the look she was giving his wife. He knew Maria well enough to know that her mind was working, even if she was not saying anything or doing anything. She was plotting, and Jasper did not feel a single ounce of comfort. She was not randomly in Forks . . . she was here for something, and it was something rather large he was guessing.
"If I believed you could be civil Maria, I would not be concerned about this conversation." He wanted Alice to leave. He wanted her to be home and safe with the others . . . but he knew she was not planning on leaving him. Just like, if the situation were reversed, he would not leave her either. "What is it that you want Maria? Let us not waste time with trivialities."

Maria gave a real sound gasp as if in shock Jasper would speak to her in such a way. "Oh dear, dear me. Not civil? I have always been wonderfully civil to people." Sometimes that statement was only a half lie. "This dose not please me Jasper. I had hoped even after so many years, surely we could speak with out hostilities. I have traveled a long way to see you, after an . . . " Maria's smiled turned deadly, ". . . an old and dear friends of ours told me a few stories about you."
"Our old friend had much to say. When I spoke to our friend, we were civil." She chuckled knowing once she said Aro's name Jasper would know why she was here. It wouldn't be hard to guess what Aro told her. "Shall we try again? Shall you ask me how I have fared? And I congratulate you on your nuptials?" Sometimes it was easier to humor her then fight her.

Alice's eyes never left Maria, if she were to move the slightest bit, Alice was ready for it -- attack or not. Maria's speech about how Jasper she be less hostile towards her was completely ubsurd and preposturous. "He doesn't owe you any respect. He doesn't owe you anything." Alice spat in harsh, yet littly cooler voice that was hard, and serious. Jasper didn't have to give this witch any respect, after what she had put him through. How dare she even show her face here!
Maria kept talking about an 'old friend' that she had gotten her information from. Alice knew whom it was, she hadn't seen it but there was no one else, no other possible alternatives. "Aro." Alice whispered angrily to Jasper, Maria might not be able to hear her say it, but the girl didn't care about that horrible woman who stood across from them.

Aro. That explained quite a bit. It was no secret that Aro was not happy with the Cullen family . . . but to send Maria here? There was something much larger going on . . . more so than simply an old flame coming for revenge of some kind. Jasper moved a little, so that he was in front of Alice; his positions were clearly protective ones. Exactly how much did Maria know? He knew he could not ask this and get a straight answer from her. It was a bit of a shame Edward was not here to read her thoughts.
"You look well, which answers the question of how you have been." He wanted her to get to the point, but she was clearly dancing around the subject. "It seems you know quite a bit then, about my current life." He subconsciously took Alice's hand in his own. "What is your business here Maria. I do not wish to ask again." If he had to, he was going to have to do something more persuasive.

Maria looked over at Alice, slowly, her smile fading very slightly, "You know, dearest, no one likes it when you give away the surprise before they open the present." Then letting her face relax into the taunting smile she had, she looked back at Jasper.
"You used to be better then this Jasper. You used to not only play the game but win. Now look at you. What has she done the warrior I built you to be? Aro says she doesn't even allow you real people. She makes you pretend."

"I was not better than this. I was just different. But I would not go back to who I used to be." He wanted to make that very clear . . . that he had no intention to join her and her ruthless missions to dominate land solely based on greed and a drive for power.
"My wife has nothing to do with this. You will leave her out of any business you have with me. So tell me now, or I will not hesitate in using methods which have served you in the past." He was of course referring to his ability, a unique one that had helped her . . . regrettably.

Maria let out an excited sounded gasp. "Do you promise, Jasper?" She asked sounded as if the idea appealed to her. "Do you want me to fight back like I used to, or should we both work over your wife?" Maria asked him with a wink. It was as she had expected him to try this on her.
She knew Jasper well. The old Jasper, anyway and vampires did not change a great deal. She liked to think she knew how he would react to everything she did.

Alice knew she wouldn't win of she faught against Jasper being so protective of her right now as he stood infront of her, it was his instincts -- not his vampire instincts -- and she couldn't argue with them. When his hand reached back for hers, she placed her minuscule hand into his large palm, tightly squeezing as much of his hand she could get a hold of at once. Right now, he felt very protective of her, but she felt protective of him as well; she couldn't stop it and wouldn't stop it. Maria wasn't going to hurt Jasper anymore.
"Perhaps you should of wrapped your 'present'." Alice sassed back. She listened closely as she stood there, her hand never loosening it's grip in his, and a second of pain shot through her when she knew very well it shouldn't. Alice hadn't taken control of Jasper's life, she helped him, just as he helped her. How dare Maria question that, she was the whole reason he wanted to change into a better person and Alice was his help, his support.
Her jaw clenched hard as Maria played on, Alice wasn't going to let her get to her, no matter what. Anything this witch said was a lie or just scum she would throw out there in hopes to bug the tiny vampire.

Jasper was mortified by how Maria spoke . . . though he should have come to expect it from her, the last time they were together, he had enjoyed her company and her remarks. Now, he was sick of them and wanted to be rid of her. He started at her, expressionless, but furious at the same time. His intense look could only be recognized by those who knew him . . . and unfortunately, Maria knew him in addition to the fact that she was good at reading people. She was gaining the reaction she wanted.
He listened to his wife's words, spoken with sarcasm and anger. He could not stand Alice having to hear such obscenities. "No more games Maria. This is not your domain. This is not your land. You are at a disadvantage for you are outnumbered, and you have no army to hide behind. So tell me, what is it that you came here for . . . alone and vulnerable." And now, he was going to intimidate her . . . or try to. Maria was not an easy woman to intimidate . . . especially after he spent a significant amount of time idolizing her and worshiping the ground she walked on.

Maria couldn't read minds but if she could have and had read Alice thinking it was a lie, Maria would have loved to keep going and tell Alice all the naughty and wicked things she had made Jasper do to her once upon a time. As it was, she wasn't even looking at Alice. She was smiling at Jasper. In a telling 'oh silly you' smug smile. "You used to be better at this Jasper."
Mocking his voice, "Alone. Vulnerable." She chuckled, she wasn't alone. Somewhere in the woods was her most resent lover. He would catch up once he got the lay of the land. After his last visit here, Maria assumed he was all to please to come and ruin the day, of the two people who ruined his fun. Maria's mood might have been to confidante. It would give her away, if Jasper was reading her but let he assume she was here with someone. Let him wonder, were the attack would come from.

"The word better can not be used to describe who I was. I was only worse. I am better now." Thanks to Alice, he was better. Much better. He was happier and living a much more fulfilling life. Maria seemed to enjoy taunting him however, so he was going to keep these thoughts to himself. "Where is your grand army then? Bring them out so that I can see how productive your past few years have been." He obviously knew they were not very successful . . . though he was not sure how productive she was. He knew there was no army here, but something was happening.
She was not here to dominate Forks. No one in their right mind would do that. But Jasper firmly believed that him and Alice were at a massive advantage. Who knew if Maria had actually brought anyone . . . they would have to wait and see. But Jasper was ready for anything at this point. He was not going to lower his guard even the slightest bit, especially with Alice here. He looked at Maria, carefully. "Who is here?" He asked, doubting he would recieve an answer, but he wanted her to know that he knew so that the element of surprise was not in her favor.

Maria's chuckled was excited now. More like a pleased little kid. "A new friend. One who's talents far excised your own. . . . well, the talents we were just speaking of at lest." Maria said with excitement. "But enough about my guest. Lets speak of us Jasper. I need a word with you. I think you are going to want to hear what I have to say alone. Why not send the little wife home to play house?"

Alice couldn't stand the fact that Maria was there, in Forks, still alive -- as much as a vampire could be -- and taunting away at Jasper and herself. Alice's jaw clenched tightly as she tried to not let the evil and nasty things that girl spoke get to her. But it was impossible to ignore completely.
No army, but one companion; the odds looked good for the vegetarians -- their house was just a few kilometers away, easy running distance to go and get back up. Though Alice hadn't seen him coming before, she could a little now. He wasn't moving very fast, having very little decisions made which kept him prettyy much entirely out of her sight, Alice was just searhijg hard enough.
The little vampire tightened her grip on her husband's hand. "I am not going anywhere." She said firmly, to Maria but also to Jasper. There was nothing in the world that would make her change her mind about this.

Jasper was torn. He wanted Alice to leave and go home, so in that sense he would accept Maria's condition. But on the other hand, he did not want to keep anything from Alice and though he would tell her everything later on . . . he felt it was the equivalent to keeping secrets from her. Alice's determined statement eliminated the possibility of speaking with Maria alone . . . and he was fine with that . . . sort of.
Jasper did not like where this was going, and he did not like that he may have to stoop to Maria's level and say sarcastic, taunting things to her. But it was the only way to get through to her . . . it was the only way to show how serious he was. "What you have to say, you will say in front of my wife and I. So speak now." He paused for a few moments. "Would it make you more comfortable to wait for your guest?" He was insinuating that she was afraid to talk to both of them at the same time . . . which he knew she was not. Once again, he hated the taunting remarks, but he needed to be more aggressive with her -- verbally. Of course, it would take a few more than a couple of phrases.

Maria ignored Alice as if no sound had come from the short girl, Jasper was clinging to. When Jasper spoke, Maria rolled her eyes. "Still not making your own decisions I see. Apparently that answers the question of how you've been." She used his words, "However, I am not going to be able to answer your question, with her here. If you want to know why I am here, I will speak to you alone. If you rather not know, you may turn and walk away now. I will go about my business here." Maria smiled in a way she used to when she was playing someone. A smile he would know well.
"My guest is just hunting. He would be a bit closer to town then us." She left both comments hanging there. Her 'business' and her 'guest'. Maria knew Jasper would not just walk away. He wouldn't run the risk of letting the enemy out of his sights. If he did leave, he would bring back the others in his coven to hunt for her, and Maria had a plan in place for that. It was one of the rules of war she had taught Jasper.
Unlike humans who wanted the other side to attack first, Maria taught him it was best to be the one to make the first move, after you had gathered all the information and could plan for their every move.

Alice stood at Jasper's side now, standing behind him was becoming impossible for her. She knew her husband was being protective -- over protective as usual -- but she could stay behind him anymore, not being able to see what Maria was doing on there side of him and what he was doing facialy. Her tiny, not-so-delicate hand never let go of his. Her eyes scanned his face briefly before flicking to Maria.
Though anger and annoyance, disgust and protectivness was what she felt, she was debatting internally. She had no intension on leaving Jasper alone with Maria, afraid of the out come, but would it be better for her to leave? But wether she departed or stayed, Maria was still going to tease, annoy and insult her and Jasper, maybe even more if she left. The little pixie-like girl was torn, really. Wondering which one was best, wondering if her choise if currently staying was selfish, and so on. Should she trust Jasper would be ok alone with this woman? She couldn't figure it out.

Jasper had no intention of leaving Maria alone . . . and she knew that. He knew she did. She never played a weak side; she would present either option and always have some sort of plan ready to put in action. She was excellent in the plotting department. Which was why Jasper was concerned about her presence here. If Alice had not seen anything, then perhaps it meant Maria had not decided on a particular plan . . . yet. He did not want to wait until she did.
"I am not leaving. And you will not get far carrying on with your business." Even if he had to stand here all day . . . or all week, he would. He would not involve others in it -- though much to his regret, Alice was already involved in this business of hers and he really did not like the thought of that. "This stubborness of yours is not helping to advance your plans. You are wasting time, and it will be your downfall." When they had their army . . . they had struck hard and fast, but with some menacing plot to go along with their attack. Right now, she seemed to still be in the plotting stage . . . as far as he knew. He was not siding with her in any way . . . he was merely stating a fact.

"Downfall?" Maria chuckled as if that idea amused her more then worried her. "Your assuming, that this is not part of my plan. While I admit, to not having a solid plan, I think we both know I would not give you that much of an upper hand, by coming here completely planless."
"I think we both know better then to solidly, plan anything at the moment." Maria's eyes dropped to Alice, then returned to Jasper, "However . . . say, if one wanted to get a certain job done, and not allow another said vampire, to know their plans. They would simply lay out possibilities, and give them to a friend, allowing herself to get into position before the plan is finalized and the decision made."
"Really, Jasper! I thought I taught you better strategizing then this. Did you really think this was random? She has destroyed all my hard work see."

"You did come here, expecting to get what you want." He was insinuating that that part of her plan was not going to happen. He was not going to give her what she wanted . . . unless he had absolutely no choice. "Speak what you want now Maria. You have come here for a reason. You have found me for a reason." He wanted her to stop making excuses. He wanted his meeting with her to be as short as possible. "Whether it is part of your plan or not, you are wasting time and I do not want to stand here, conversing needlessly with you."
