The bell had not rung yet, so Jasper Hale was not late for class. He seldom was, despite the fact that he despised attending school. He especially disliked classes where he was alone . . . alone in the sense that there were only humans around him. Still, he came for Alice and if this made her happy, then he would do anything for her. He walked through the doors. There were only a few other students in the class, and like clock work, as soon as he had entered, the bell had rung and multiple students rushed through the doors.
Jasper went for a seat right in the back of the class. He did not enjoy being in the front or middle; he wanted to be secluded from the others, and did not care if this only encouraged his reputation as a loner. He did not concern himself with what others thought of him. No one here truly knew him, and it would forever remain that way.

Elleina was late. As always.
She opened the door and entered letting the door slam. The teacher turned to her and sigh with a angry look. Elleina made a face saying"Sorry, but it will probably happen again" and took her seat in the back of the class.
She hated her seat. She always was sitting in the front. In France she was the leader of her class. If she didn't like something, no one would say they did. She was sitting in the front and smiling to the teachers, that were mostly men. And they loved it. They were smiling back to her.
But here...here was different. Here she didn't have single friend , that would come for a sleepover or took her notes and copy homework. The teachers didn't even say her name. Here she was Miss Halo. She loved history, but sitting in the back of the class not getting a good look at the black bored made her really unhappy.
So she took her seat and put her books and put her books on the desk. Her pencil said"Ready to Study" but the only study she could come up with was how did she ended up in the back of the class. Elleina turned her head to see her neighbors. One of them was a teen boy who reminded her of her uncle Harold. Looking stupid. She turned her head to the other side. There was a blond boy looking like he's in pain. She opened her mouth to ask if he's ok, but the teacher said her name and told her to stop turning around and listen to the lesson.

Jasper thought he was going to be lucky by having one of the seats next to him vacant; but he was not that fortunate. A young woman entered and took her seat there. Jasper could feel her unhappiness with that. He would have attempted to help, and he not been plotting how to kill every single human in the room right now. He did not look at her. He did not even look at the teacher. He looked down at his desk, trying to hold his breath so that he would not smell so many humans at once. It was bittersweet. He loved the smell of them, but at the same time, all it led to was temptation and that was something Jasper could not risk.
"Hello class. Today, we are going to discuss various battles that have taken place throughout the course of history: World War I, World War II, The Civil War . . . just to name a few."
Jasper did not like learning about the civil war. The teacher's facts were often mixed up and it irritated him. It was why perhaps he himself had written books about it, in secret of course. It would not make sense if he was the author of books that had a tone of sophistication well past his physical age. Though he was still not looking at the teacher, he was listening.

Elleina was also listening. Her great-great-grandfather was in one of those battles the teacher had mentioned.
She looked up at the walking teacher and followed him with her eyes not making a sound. The teacher was talking about the problems people had to go to survive the war times. That had caught her attention. The dates, the places the people all living for one aim. To stay alive.
She drowned in her thoughts. What if she had to live in the war time? What would it be like? It is so easy to talk about the times, but we weren't there we don't know how hard it was. Elleina put her eyes on her book again.
"Ok students so...I bet you are all thrilled you don't have to skip school due to war issue". Some laughed, but Elleina took it deeper. It's true, was freedom do we have know. Not one language is forbidden now, we can read and study as much as we want. " People c'mon be quiet. I'll pair you up and give you a project. You will have to present it at the end of the first term. So let's get started'
The teacher started to pair the students up by the first letter of their surnames. Elleina looked up when she heard her name and the name" Hale". She look through the class to see you was this "Hale" kid. One boy was looking at her. "Am...Are you Hale?she asked. The boy smiled and pointed at the Young man sitting at the other side of her. Elleina turned her head to him.

Oh no. Oh. No. Jasper did not like group projects. It forced him to spend an extended amount of time with a human; something he certainly did not enjoy doing. He did not bother looking around the class for his partner; he would find them soon, and sure enough . . . she had found him. In fact, it was the student who was seated right next to him, the one he had been plotting to get alone so that he could devour her delicious smelling blood. Though Jasper's mind replayed this scenario, he knew that it was an impossibility. He would not break down that easily.
"Am...Are you Hale?
Oh how he wished he wasn't. He slowly looked at her, trying to hold his breath but it was too difficult when he was expected to speak. "Yes. I am Jasper Hale." Formalities was something he had never quite outgrown. He looked at her, staring practically, trying to distract himself by something . . . anything! It was so very difficult. How was he going to work on this project with her when he could not even stand being next to her. He averted his gaze to his text book, blindly flipping through the pages, just so it was something to do . . . apart from staring at the woman.

Elleina smiled softly"Hi , I'm Elleina Halo". She was looking at him she noticed he had something going on "Are you ok Jasper? If you don't like me as a partner that's ok, I'll understand"
Yeah she would. He looked different from other. Quiet. So still. Almost as not breathing. Her eyes was on him but she was knew, it would have been totally ok if he just didn't want to be her partner for this amount of time they would have to spent together on this project.
Although that would have hurt her feelings.

Did he not like her as a partner? No. He did not. But it was not personal of course . . . she could have been anyone, but so long as she was human, he would not like her as a partner. This was going to be difficult to endure. Maybe the sooner they finished the project, the less time he would have to spend with her . . . yes. But then again, humans got tired. They could not work continuously. Jasper was just trying to find impossible shortcuts to take with this horrible assignment.
"It is fine," he said as politely as he could, though he was still not looking at her. "I am fine," he added. He was still avoiding eye contact. He needed a straw to bite on, just as he often did in the cafeteria. "How are you?" He asked only to change the subject. He was not overly concerned about her well being . . . well, technically he was. He was worried that he was going to drain all the blood out of her.

Elleina smiled" I'm fine thank you, well as fine as I can be though". She look at him and than put her eyes on her notebook" Thanks for not ditching me to a different student. I really don't have friends here at all. It's kinda weird 'cuz back home I had them..."She stopped talking. Smiled. But her smile was full of embarrassment" I'm sorry.I'll shut up now, don't want you to start thinking I'm a weirdo" But she still didn't stop talking.
Elleina took her hair band and tied her hair up. Even with the hair up she looked beautiful. Her sent called expensive perfume.Probably Chanel or Chloe. No make up. But despite all those things she look natural. So natural that it made her look even more prettier. She was still smiling.

He listened to her talking. The more she spoke, the less he had to. So he would have to encourage a one sided conversation. "It is quite alright," he said as politely as he could. "I do not think you are weird." He was the odd one right now. Who would ever suspect him to be a blood, drinking monster. "Where did you move from?" He asked, already mentally compiling a list of questions he could interrogate her with so that she would keep talking.
Her emotions were . . . pleasant. Very pleasant. The way she kept smiling, the modest embarrassment she felt . . . at least, if nothing else, her emotions were slightly helping calm him down. "How long have you been here for?" He asked. He had noticed every human in his class, but he had not know them individually. He just saw them all as one massive pool of temptation.

" You know you look you have a ache or something. I could ask the teacher to let you go to the nurse." She looked at him with concerned. " I lived in Paris with my parents...." she lowered her head" But I had to move here for my own good. and everyone else."
She didn't want to tell her project partner about her stupid dreams and that she was responsible for a girls death.

"I am fine," he repeated. He was not oblivious to her obvious concern as to whether he was well or not, he just could not explain what was truly agitating him right now. "I do not need to see the nurse," he added, trying to convince her that he was alright so that he would not be forced to create a false diagnosis of his obvious discomfort.
Her mood changed a little, and this was a good way for Jasper to get her to distract him even more through her talking. "Why did you move here?" Why had she left such an extravagant place like Paris, to come to a the shabby little town of Forks? It was hard to believe, and so the reason behind it was something that Jasper wanted to ask . . . hopefully it would be a nice long reason so that she would keep talking and talking and talking some more. It sounded like an intense reason, and if Jasper had any sense of humor at the moment, he would have made a joke . . . but he did not feel like being funny right now, or even attempt to.

Elleina was looking at her notebook." We should get started with the project"she said. She stood up and pulled her chair closer to Jasper's desk and sat down. But she was silent.
She didn't want to say the reason. She was ashamed of what she did. But now it all came back. The fear of dreaming anything again. She hadn't had a single dream since she moved to Forks. She was so happy to be normal again. Not to have something to hide. Not be take ant chance of taking another life.
But she wanted to say this out load. Share the reason. Say what she did and how sorry she is. She wanted to feel safe for the first time. To see that people are not screared of her.
There were no smile, no eye connection no nothing. Elleina simply was writing and making a model for the presentation. Other students were talking and making lots of noise. All the laughter, chit-chats. It seemed she missed it all.
Elleina wrote something on the notebook and pushed it a little to Jasper's side. Her hand writing was very beautiful. The note said" I did something I'm not proud off." She slowly put her eyes on him again.

Within the second that she moved her chair closer to him, he moved his a little back. That was all he needed; for her to be closer, so that her scent would be stronger. No. Jasper could not endure that. He felt he was on the verge of breaking down. He kept his chair at a bit of a distance, while his head was still focused on what was not the ground, since he had used his legs to slide his chair from his desk. He slowly looked up at her.
He could feel her pain at recalling the memories which led her to this school. It was overwhelming. Pain. Guilt. Remorse. Fear. What Jasper did not know was why. What had happened that created off this emotions inside of her. They were so strong, and the fact that she was avoiding the subject made it obvious that it was something big; something she did not want to discuss with a complete stranger.
He averted his gaze from her, to the notebook which she had written on. He looked at it longer than necessary, before slowly looking back at her, but maintaining a distance. "We have all done things we are not proud of." It was in a way, his attempt to reassure her, but it had a deeper meaning, for he was connecting the reason he was finding it so difficult to be near her, to his past and the reason that being around humans was so difficult. If there was anyone who understood the meaning of doing something that one wished they had not, it was him. He had spent years of his life being a monster . . . nothing of what he had done when he was Maria was something he was proud of.

Elleina looked at him. Her eyes were soft and tender. Her glance was so innocent. How could such a wonderful creature made something wrong? How could this beauty do any harm to anyone? No . It can't be. Or can it? Can she bee a killer? Can she do something to anyone and don't feel guilty about it? Elleina had a secret. She was the secret. And that secret she will never reveal.
She was still looking at him." Yes, but none of hat matters now. Can we get started with the project?" She began to write sentences. Elleina wrote fast and noticed Jaspers position of keeping father." Jasper are you really OK? You look like you don't like me. I said it's OK if you don't want to be my partner, I'll just do this project alone and say we both did it. I don't want more people hating me." She spoke the truth. She would do all the project alone and share the mark with him. She looked at him
" You are weird I'll tell you this" she smiled and stood up to go take a book. She picked out World War II and hit her way back letting the pages lightly slip her finger. Her were on the book, so she didn't notice that another student put his foot in front of her.He didn't do this on purpose , he was just relaxing.
And than it happen.
Elleina tripped and hit her head on the corner of the desk falling on the ground. The teacher stood up" Oh dear are you alright Miss Halo?". Elleina sat down letting her hand of the head . There were a little bruise. It was a little bloody.
" Can anyone take her to the nurse?" The teacher asked.

Jasper did not defend the fact that he did not like her. Everyone was equally bad to work with . . . nothing made her worse than the others, but how could he explain it? He would just look anti social and as she said 'weird' and that was fine with him. He was not so concerned about what others thought of him . . . unlike some people. He continued to look at the floor, even when she got up to get them a book necessary for their research. He did not turn until she fell, and the scent of blood filled the room.
Jasper abruptly turned his head to the source of the smell, and saw that his partner had fallen on the ground.
Blood.
He held his breath, but he was staring at the warm red liquid that was dropping to the ground.
Blood.
Jasper felt he would not be able to control himself. How could he? There was blood in a room of dozens of humans! He gripped the edge of his desk, using every ounce of strength within him to restrain himself, to prevent himself from attacking her.
Blood.
He just continued to stare at it. "I will," he said quickly standing up when the teacher asked if anyone would take her to the nurse's office. He needed to get out of this room. He desperately need to leave before he became responsible for the death of every single human in this room. He could not bear it. How was he going to handle walking alongside her when she smelled like a human . . . when all he could smell was blood.

The teacher helped Elleina to get up . She was hold int her hand on her forehead and let her down.
"I will"she heard and looked up " Fine, Elleina go with Jasper to the nurse and if you need go home after that"he told her and opened the door.
Elleina was looking at Jasper. She wasn't very happy about him walking her to the nurse. But she was silent. She looked down and took her bag. Her blood was on the floor. She was looking at it and than everyone got more seared.
Elleina's hands started to shake. She looked like she will fall down and never wake up. She put her hand on the wall and gone out to the hall starting to walk. But where? How can she not know where the nurse office is? Yes . She needed her partner's help. She turned her head to him
" Your eyes" was the only thing she said.

He walked alongside her, sensing her lack of enthusiasm that he had been the one to escort her. It did not bother him though. She would have felt less than comfortable if he had lost all control and attacked her in the middle of the classroom. Her current discomfort was a small price to pay compared to the alternative outcome.
He did not look at her when she commented on his eyes, which he knew were very black right now. "It is a genetic trait," he lied. Then again, if she saw the rest of his family -- mainly Rosalie since that was who was being posed as his twin -- then she would understand. He did not offer his hand for support; they were too hold, and he did not want to come into contact with her skin. "The nurse's office is this way," he said, walking only a couple of steps ahead of her so that he would not have to describe their destination, but rather, simply lead her to it. Jasper was going to need to go for a hunt when this day was through.

Elleina was looking at him. She frowned" What is your problem Jasper? I didn't do anything to you , you have no wright to treat me this way."
She was mad. She didn't know that he wanted her blood or that he was a vampire. If you had known she would have walked away. But now she pas pissed. Him treating her like dirt.
" If you don't want to be my friend fine but we have a project to do and I really want to get an A."
And than she got dizzy. Feeling the bruise on her forehead she was feeling no pain. It seemed like the bruise is just painted. She wanted to show him she can do everything on her own. No need for some boy to help her in any way. But she was wrong.
Elleina took a step holding to the wall crossing him and she collapsed.

Jasper had a problem. A BIG problem. But one that he could not, and would never be able to admit to her. He just kept walking. He could feel her anger and frustration over his attitude towards her. He made no attempt to calm her down. Not until it affected their project for he wanted them to get through it as quickly as possible. He wondered if she was going to keep this up throughout their whole project.
His thought process soon came to an end, for he no longer heard anything from her and when he turned, he saw her begin to fall. He quickly caught her, and that was a grand mistake. The smell was stronger than ever. He was right next to the blood now, the smell filling his sense as he could feel the burning in his throat getting stronger and stronger . . . and stronger . . . . . .
He released his grasp on her so that she fell to the floor, but not with much force. He had to do it. He was so close to draining every drop of blood from her, and transforming back into that monster that he once was. Oh how he desperately need his wife right now. He looked at the unconscious body. He could not just leave her here. She would know, and they still had a project they needed to get through. After a few moments of deliberation, he bent down and picked her up in his arms. He held his breath as he walked quickly to the nurse's office. It was a good thing no one else was around. He quickly went to the school nurse with Elleina and gently placed her on the examining bed. Once she was positioned on there, he took several steps back, no longer able to hold his breath for now, he had to explain to the nurse what had happened.

Elleina opened her eyes when the nurse came to her
"What happened to her?"
She frowned looking at the nurse
"I'm fine"she said sitting down.
She looked up. The anger was gone for a minute. What did she do to make him hate her so much? Maybe he knew what she did? Elleina looked down letting the nurse take care of her forehead.
" Thank you Jasper" She said not looking at him. She won't look at him. The only thing she wanted was a friend. But how can she have it when she was a killer?Yes. He must have known what she did and he is discussed with her.
She will finish the project alone and say they did it together to he could get the good mark. Elleina didn't know he was a vampire. She didn't know anything about the existence about creatures like him.
"OK your good to go" Elleina didn't heared anything more the nurse said. She stood up and left the office. She walked in the hall and stopped taking a breath and closing her eyes.

Jasper was not sure why he had waited, though it did not take long for the nurse to dismiss her, and it took even a shorter amount of time for Elleina to hurriedly leave. He gave a polite nod to the nurse, trying to remain as polite as he could under the circumstances. He wanted to lash out, he wanted to get his fill of the blood that had taken over his senses before, but he fought the urge. With Elleina's wound tended to . . . the smell of the blood would hopefully not be so over powering.
He exited the nurse's office and walked after Elleina. "Are you feeling better? Our professor exempted you from class and said that you could go home if you prefer." Jasper was a few steps behind her, though he continued to talk to her by saying the previous statements. He would have just walked away had he not had to be in her company for the rest of the term.

[Elleina was silent. She didn't knew why but she just had to be like this for a moment.
"I am sorry Jasper. I didn't mean to yell at you . Yes I am feeling better thank you."
She turned around looking at him and she smiled. Her smile was warm and friendly . She looked a bit messy. Shaggy hair blood on her clothes.
" Thank you for caryying me to the nurse" [/ii]

Her fluctuation of emotions were a tad bit confusing, but she seemed better now. She seemed less angry, and more . . . happy? Was that the appropriate word? She still did not look well. Surely she did not feel well as she had just suffered an injury. "There is no need to apologize." He would not have cared either way; he did not come to school to make friends, he came because his wife wanted him to, and he wanted to be with her.
"You are welcome." Despite Jasper's desperation to control himself, he knew that he could have not just left her there, lying on the floor, bleeding. That was too cruel, and Jasper did not want cruelty to be a part of him any more. "Would you like me to escort you home, or perhaps give you a ride?" He offered. He was not sure why, perhaps so ensure that she was well, and that nothing further would happen to her. He did this, because it was the right thing to do; because after spending so many years with Alice, and the Cullens . . . it was what he was taught to do, and what should be expected of him.

Elleina looked up. Somehow he didn't look so mean now. Maybe he didn't want to get friends with he. And now it was ok. She could not make him to be her friend she couln't.
She smiled. Elleina steped forward and shook his hand.
" No you don't need to do it I' ve got my bike here. And to make the matter better I'll let you choose if you want to do the project with me or not . If not that's ok I'll still say we did it together."
She wasn't angry ir making him feel bad. She really wanted to just don't have enamies here.
