Oh no! He had made her cry! He didn't mean to do that, and hated seeing the tears in her eyes. He hated hearing her call his name, and him not being there to save her . . . to ease her worry. He was right here, but not in the way she wanted him to be. That much was clear from the way she called him. He could not phase back yet, because if there was something nearby, he needed to ensure her safety first.
He let out a small whimper as he nudged he again, looking straight at her through his wolf eyes, somehow trying to plead with her to understand. Would she recognize him? Would she deny what was right in front of her? He knew that in this moment, he could lose her forever . . . he would do everything in his power to prevent that from happening . . . he would do everything he could to bring her back to him.

Rachael watched the wolf and reached up to wipe the tears from her eyes. She moved to sit up and look at the wolf. She had officially gone crazy and it made her eyes water more. By this time she cheeks were dirty do the tear streaks stood out. She reached her hand, SLOWLY up to touch the wolfs noise and when she did her shoulders shook in in frighten sob, however she let her hand pet the wolf's noise.
Yes, she had lost her mind. "P-Paul?" She asked feeling very silly. VERY silly and VERY frightened. When she heard something moving a few dozen feet away, something big, Rachael dropped her hand and moved closer to Paul--The wolf. . . The wolf who either ate Paul or was Paul, or had scared Paul off. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

When she said his name, he raised and lowered his head in a repeated nod, demonstrating that he understood what she was saying and confirming her question. Suddenly, there was more movement. He quickly positioned himself so that he was in front of her; his stance became protective. She would not get hurt because of him tonight. He was also worried about showing the more aggressive side of him . . . especially as a wolf. He would have to rip whatever was out there apart, and he feared that it was for that reason she was so upset right now.
He kept his body close to hers, so that his fur was against her skin. He was the size of a horse as a wolf, so he was not worried about being incapable of protecting her. He just hated seeing her cry. He kept a close, watchful eye on any more movements that surrounded them, and kept his ears open to any approaching stranger. There was no one else patrolling right now, so he was on his own.

No! No no no, Paul! "Paul" She whispered, and reached her hand up to pull on his furr, trying to keep him from fighting and getting hurt. Granted, he was bigger then anything that might be coming her way but, size didn't always matter. She looked around for some for of weapon, be she saw Paul's pants a few feet away. She pushed off the ground and ran to them, picking them up and running back to Paul.
Whatever was out there had heard her and roared, starting to come at them quicker. She tossed the pants onto his back, then grabbing a hand full of his fur, used it to try to pull him back. "Paul!" She could almost see the bear now. Looking around she knew she needed to make him leave with her. So she did the only thing she knew to do. . .
She turned and ran hoping to get away, and then whistled for him to come. Like a dog. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

She slowly seemed to be understanding, but the circumstances became more dangerous than he had anticipated. There was a beast of some sort out there, and Rachael was here. He let out a small growl when the bear came into sight, still wishing that Rachael would not have to see him like this, but knew that he had no other choice. It was better that he could see her so he knew she was safe ---- uh oh. She was gone. He turned to see where she had run off to, and heard her whistle. Even as a wolf, he managed to roll his eyes.
The bear however was not interested in him, it was interested in Rachael. He would have to put an end to that interest. He growled, this time more loudly, and began to walk back and forth in front of the bear, an indication that he was getting ready to attack it if it made another move towards him, or her. He was torn. Should he follow Rachael? They could get out of here, but would she really just hop on his back and go with him? He wasn't sure, and he was not willing to risk her life on it. So he remained where he was, standing in between the bear and Rachael, ready to attack if necessary. He hoped the damn bear would just leave so that no one had to worry about anything.

Rachael looked behind her and noticed Paul wasn't there. Or Wolf Paul. She whistled more and clapped her hands before remembering that could be drawing the bear's attention to her. She groaned, "Smart move Rach!" The she however wasn't leaving Paul. She stood their, about 18 feet away, almost out of her human sight in this night, waiting for sounds of a fight, or flight. Waiting for sounds of Paul. This was one weird dream! When she woke up and told Paul about it he was going to tease her endlessly. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

He heard the clapping and whistling, but he did not want to take his eyes off of the creature that stood before him. He just let out a few barks to let her know that he was still here . . . that he would hear her . . . that she did not have to draw any more attention to herself because right now, the bear was moving past Paul and straight to wards Rachael. This was enough to make Paul angry. He growled ferociously, and leaped onto the beast that threatened her life. He sunk his teeth into the thick fur, causing the animal to react in pain, letting out a growl of agony. Paul retracted and snarled at him. He had just made him angry instead of scaring him away.

Rachael was watching the almost fight when she heard something behind her. Turning she saw two baby bears in a tree, as if hiding from danger. . . . from Paul. Awww! "Paul!! NO!!! She has a family!" Rachael called out, "We are between her and her babies!" Rachael started moving away from the babies trying to show Mama Bear that she wasn't going to harm them. She didn't want to leave to far from Paul however. She waited for Paul to come closer. "Paul, lets go! They see you as the danger! We leave!" ((Icons not of my own making. What the hell?! This bear was trying to kill her and all she was concerned about her little babies? This woman had a thing for babies, whether they be eggs or wild, dangerous animals.
Get away from the cubs! The mother is not going to react well!
Damn it! She couldn't hear him. Though she was stepping away, Paul knew now why the mother was so protective of this area. They had entered her territory. He showed no sympathy though. If it came down to killing a mother and protecting Rachael, he would do it without an ounce of hesitation. He leaped towards the animal again, this time, only to knock it to the ground so that it would not charge at Rachael. He stood on top of it, has he had the creature pinned to the ground. He took another bite into it, though ensuring it was not a lethal one. Rachael was already upset enough . . . he did not want to go against her wishes. Freakin' emotional women.
When he felt he had bought enough time, he got off the bear and ran to where she was. Growling once more at the animal, he turned to Rachael and motioned for her to get on his back. It was the only way they would get out of here in time, before the mother had a chance to react to what he had done.

{Save a horse, ride a werewolf.}
When Paul bit into the bear, Rachael gasped. She was eat Mama bear! Or leave her to weak to care for her babies! When he came to her side she wanted to glare at him, however he was trying to tell her something. Something about his back? His pants? . . . . Oh dear. Rachael wasn't sure if this is what he ment but she assumed it was.
Reaching over as far as she could she grabbed a hand full of fur and pulled her self onto his back. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

As soon as Paul felt Rachael on his back, he ran. He did not go as fast as he could, but we went fast enough to show that his speed was heightened, which was of course part of the abilities that came with being a wolf. He kept going until he was in an area where there was a large clearing, no place for creatures to hide or creep up on them. It was also very private so that no one would see a woman riding a wolf -- which would look rather bizarre indeed. He came to a halt and waited for her to get off. Should he phase back to his human self? Or should he wait a few moments? He waited to see her reaction before reaching a decision.

When he stopped, she slid off him and her knees buckled. She fell the ground with and oof, and staid there. She put her head between her knees and didn't look up at him. This was one real feeling dream. It had started wonderful, but ended like a nightmare.
Once her head wasn't spinning from the assault of information and events she looked up but not at him. "I think--I think I should home now, Paul. It's late and normal--Normal people don't stay out all night, they stay warm and safe in their beds." ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Oh no. She was not reacting to this whole thing very well . . . then again, what did he expect? He understood that it was not the easiest thing to accept, but he wished there was more he could tell her. Damn that stupid bear for coming when it did. He went close to her, putting his body against hers so that she could absorb some of the heat from his fur. Apparently, he was officially abnormal. Could she be with such an abnormal person? He gave her a small nudge on the cheek with his nose, waiting a bit longer before phasing so that she could get used to the idea of him as a wolf.

Rachael waited as she felt him lean closer. She wasn't ready for this. "Paul, I need time to think. Just a few hours. So, can you take me home now and then come over for breakfast or--or lunch or something." She told him. She wasn't ready to deal with this now. She wasn't ready to deal with big hairy issues (No pun meant) at the moment. She just wanted to go home. "Can you just--just take me home?" ((Icons not of my own making. If wolves could sigh, he would have. He nodded his head and disappeared into the trees. As he phased back, he felt for the first time after a long time, fear. He did not know what she was going to do. He knew of course that he could not live without her, so he was going to have to find a way to get her to stay with him . . . despite what he had just shown her. He pulled on his pants, realizing he would have to go back for his shirt later on. That was not important right now. At this moment, he had to be fully focused on Rachael. He came out from the concealment of the trees and went up to her. He gently put his hand on her cheek, letting him know that he was the same Paul. "This doesn't change anything," he began to tell her. "I'm still the same guy I was who broke your window with a pebble." He paused. "I need you to understand that."

She didn't pull away but she didn't lean into him like she would have. She didn't even nod her head for a moment. She just looked at him and then lowered her eyes. After giving him a nod, she looked around the woods. "I don't know the way home." She told him. She wasn't ready to think about this or talk to him about thi---anything. Not yet. tomorrow. When she had some sleep and was rested enough to think with out thinking this was a dream. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

As much as he hated letting her leave like this, he knew he had no choice. He would have to let her go for tonight . . . he would have to let her have this doubt. He wished things could just be as they always had been. "Come on, I'll take you home," he said, withholding a sigh. He took her hand in his, not strong enough from refraining her gentle touch. He did not know whether she would want to see him tomorrow even . . . she had invited him over, but she also was desperate to leave him right now. Again, he could not blame her. All he could do was lead her through the dark, what proved to be dangerous woods. He did not even know what to say to destroy the awkward silence that they were walking in. "Will you be ready to talk tomorrow?" He did not want to press his luck, but he also could not leave without knowing if he was going to see her tomorrow.

"Yes." She said quietly, she didn't want to be one of THOSE girls and make him wait forever. She needed time to sort out her thoughts and brace her self. In her mind, she was trying to figure out where this came from. Was Paul human? How did one ask that with out sounding . . . .mean. His family had been in la push as long as hers had. Hadn't they? She felt his hand on her's but didn't curl her fingers around his. They walked in silence for what felt like forever. She didn't want to think, but her mind was running.
Paul. Wolf boy. Was this why he didn't have a real job? He had a double life? Like bat man was weirder. This had a new meaning for dogie style. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

This tension was something he had never wanted to experience with her, but it was unavoidable because of the circumstances. He was not relieved when they reached her house. Even though they had just had a very uncomfortable walk, he still did not want to leave her with the way things were. He stood in front of her, still holding her hand and looking at her with a pleading expression. "You'll call me tomorrow?" He asked. He wanted to give her time, and space . . . but the selfish part of him knew that he would not be able to endure time and space away from her. "I'm sorry that things didn't happen more . . . smoothly." That stupid bear got in the way. He wondered how differently she would have reacted if things had not been so dangerous.

"You can just come over tomorrow, Paul. Sometime when the sun it up. Maybe 10 o'clock? I will make breakfast." She offered to show it it wasn't as bad as it seemed. She didn't want him cliff jumping or something again because she wouldn't speak to him. She turned to walk in, but the door was locked. She dug around int he pocket but then realized that when she tripped over the . . . .leg . . . she dropped her keys. Somewhere out there a pissed Mama Bear had the keys to her bug.
Sighing she walked over to the window, the lock that never worked, pushed it open. Looking back at Paul, she walked over, and kissed his cheek before climbing in and shutting the window and blinds. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

She was not happy or excited. It sounded like she was inviting him over out of obligation. No matter. Paul would never turn down that opportunity, so he was going to be here at ten sharp. He knew they had a lot to talk about . . . she was an emotional woman who liked to express her feelings. He was going to say something while he watched her try to find her keys, but searching for her keys led to her climbing in her window which led to her shutting her blinds . . . which led to Paul standing there dumbly, missing seeing her. It felt like forever since he had last seen her smile, even though it had just been a short time.
He began to walk away, and felt angry. Not at her . . . with himself. With this whole entire thing. With that damn bear! He was going to kill that bear. He felt his body trembling and quickly ran into the woods. He was still running when he felt himself get on all fours and could feel the wolf in him emerge. So much for the pants they had made such an effort to maintain. He needed to blow off some steam and so spent the entire night, running a patrol with only one person on his mind: Rachael Lana Black.

She didn't sleep at all the 'night' and ended up making bacon rolled in brown surger, about 9:15, and backing it in something to keep it warn and being at the beach by 9:40. She walked down to one end, where the cliffs started, and it made a small corner and she put a blanket down and sat on it.
There she sat, with her knees wrapped up around her chest, wearing jeans, sandles, and a long sleeve shirt with her college's logo on it. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

It was 9:59 when Paul knocked on Billy's door. He had been up all night, just running around as a wolf, not wanting to talk to anyone. Luckily no one else was patrolling that night so he did not have to force anyone out of his head. They would surely know about this soon though since it would be looming on his mind for quite some time. Billy answered -- thankfully it wasn't Jake -- and explained that Rachael wasn't here. Panic began to fill Paul.
"She headed out just a little while ago."
"Well where is she?" He asked worridly. Did she leave La Push, go back to college? No. She would have told him . . . wouldn't she have? She would not have just left like that . . . right?
"She's out right now. She looked like she needed some time alone."
"Out? Out where? Out of the State? Country? Where is she Billy?"
"Calm down son, she's only 10 minutes from here. She went to the beach. The one down ---"
But Paul did not give him the chance to finish. He was already heading down the general direction of a beach. Paul had to take it upon himself to find her. Did she invite him over at a time when she knew she would not be home? He needed to talk to her . . . desperately. He was not exactly nervous . . . more fearful that she had made a decision to leave him, and never return to La Push. He would spend every moment of his life trying to convince her to stay with him, that he would protect and take care of her . . . that he loved her.
It had taken him some time checking different places, but he had finally found her. He was not going to complain . . . he was just grateful that she was still here. As he saw her sitting there, he did not hesitate. He approached her and took a seat next to her, looking at her for a moment to make sure she was alright. "I went to your house," he began, not wanting her to feel guilty, and needing something to kill the silence. At least it was a conversation starter. "Billy said you had come to the beach instead."

Rachael looked up at Paul and realized she forgot to do something this morning. "Oh no! I forgot to leave you a note on the door telling you to meet me here. I'm sorry, Paul, I didn't mean it to look like I bailed on you." She was being honest, she wasn't the type to just up and leave. She wasn't sure her type but she wasn't that type. "Want to join me? I made breakfast." She leaned over and pulled out a container and opened it to show him the bacon and fresh bread. "Home made." She tried to keep her voice light and temp him to sit and eat so this felt normal. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Paul knew that Rachael was not that type. She was far more responsible than that, so he would not have thought anything was wrong right now, since things seemed normal . . . other than her forgetting to leave a note. But he understood that she had a lot on her mind. "Its alright." He felt it better not to tell her how worried he was that she had left La Push. "Sure. I haven't eaten yet . . . you know how hungry I can get," he said smiling. Things still seemed . . . uncertain. Maybe she was just going to let it go, and they could continue their relationship as if nothing happened. Was that possible? It felt possible with the way things were going right now. He took a big bite of his toast. "Its delicious," he complimented, once the bread was done his throat, and he went for another bite which finished the piece off.

"Thank you." She said, and have him a small smile. She then looked down at the sand and out to the waves, not eating. She tried to think of something to say, how to begging the conversation. She wasn't sure how to start it, and half wished he would but knew she wasn't ready to talk about it yet. However the only way to calm her mind was to learn everything she could Had this been any other boy and any other event she could use google or books. She was good at learning.
However the only way to learn anything with this boy and this event was talking about it. She looked back up at him and gave him a smile, trying to think of how one asked her boyfriend if he was human or not. ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

The silence was getting awkward. He continued to eat. "Do you want any?" Did she eat breakfast? He knew she did not eat half as much as he did, or even a quarter as much . . . a tenth as much. He looked at her, swallowing a final bite before he left nothing for her. He wanted to say something . . . he wanted to find out exactly what she was thinking. "So . . . "Your welcome." She said awkwardly. She watched him for a moment longer then her horrible habit of laughing when nerves kicked in. Her face was red as she blush but she chuckled to her self, knowing nothing was this was funny. Looking back down at the sand she wished it would sallow her up. She was right to expect confusion from Paul because he had no idea what was going on. What was so funny? Had he done or said something? "Its alright," he mumbled. He did not like to be confused or out of the know. "Whats so funny?" He asked curiously. Since when did he ever hold back a question . . . he was a very upfront person, only for some reason, in this situation, he did not know how to start the conversation that would lead them to discuss the incident that took place last night.
