It was another day in La Push. A local Indian reservation just outside Forks, Washington. The weather was chilly, the sky gray and dark. A good chance it would rain later in the day, probably inevitable that it would.
Sam quickly pulled a comb through his dark hair. He was getting ready to go out to his girlfriend's house. Leah Clearwater was his high school sweetheart. He had been dating her for a couple years now, and didn't want anything or expect anything to change the way he felt about her now. Nothing had even changed when he had disappeared for several weeks, coming back, and not being able to explain what had happened. Their relationship had remained the same through it all.
Today would be different though it wasn't just the usual that would be at the Clearwater House; Harry, Sue, Leah, and Seth. But Leah's cousin Emily Young was down for a visit. Her and Leah were really close, almost like sisters, from what Sam had heard. But he had yet to meet her, and he wanted to make a good impression. He clothed himself in a pair of blue jeans and one of his nicest button down shirts.
Walking out the front door he called out to his mom, letting her know where he'd be. "Going to Leah's," he told her, "I'll be back later." He slammed the front door of his house shut, skipping down the front steps and headed in the direction of the Clearwater's. It wasn't a far walk, and Sam never got tired these days, and the chilled weather didn't bother him at all.
It was a few minutes before Sam could see the house in the distance. And a couple minutes after that before he was bounding up the steps of the front porch. Taking a breath he tapped loudly on the door and waited for someone to answer. He was sure they wouldn't mind if he had just walked in, he was pretty much part of the family now, but Sam liked to be courteous.

Leah was very happy to have her favorite people under one roof for the day. Finally Emily had come back to La Push long enough to meet Sam. Leah's mother was cooking a huge meal, and Seth and their father had gone fishing, with the local police chief and Billy Black. Emily had went to school for cooking, so Sue & Leah had banned Emily from helping them cook. There was much to do, but Emily spent every day cooking, and learning and working. This day and this meal would be cooked for her with out her help.
When the knock on the door came, Leah's heart sped up and her smiled brightly. Sam! Her high school sweetheart turned soon to be husband. "I got it!" Leah said, even with her mother's look. Sue had known before Leah spoke that, Leah would run the door.
Opening the door, Leah did not move to let him. She took the few steps closer to him and kissed his. "Finally. I have been waiting for you to meet Emily!" Leah wanted her two favorite people to meet. Her voice dropped to a whisper, "I am going to ask her to be may maid of honor, but I wanted her to meet you first." Leah took his hand and lead him in the door, "Emily? Can you come to the fount room?"
Turning back to Sam, Leah explain her plans for the day, "Mom wants to have a huge supper tonight, since family is here. A simi formal thing. So I will be cooking all day. Will you help keep Emily from getting bored? We've banned her from helping,"

As Sam stood at the door he could hear the movement inside the house. He heard Leah's voice and his heart fluttered in anticipation. He counted the steps it took her to get to the door, he gave her a warm smile as she opened the door. He glanced down her form with his dark eyes and watched as she came closer to him, only to kiss him. He returned the kiss, wrapping his arms around her, pulling her closer to him in a hug. "Sorry," he apologized for taking so long. He smiled at her enthusiasm to introduce him to her cousin. "Can't wait to meet her," he told her. It didn't surprise Sam that Leah had intentions of letting Emily be the maid of honor, the way she'd talk about her gave him a good idea on their relationship.
Sam followed as he was pulled through the front door of the house, being led to the front room. His face fell slightly as Leah explained the plans, he wouldn't be getting to spend all day with her since she'd be helping out in the kitchen. But, whatever made Leah happy. "Alright," he agreed. "But are you sure you wont need my help in the kitchen?" he joked. He was a terrible cook, but wouldn't mind spending time in the kitchen with Leah.

Emily heard the knock on the door and saw Leah jump up and run to get it. She let out a small laugh, knowing that it had to be Sam. Emily was really excited to meet Sam. He made Leah happy and that's all she wanted for her best friend and cousin.
After a few minutes, she heard her name being called by Leah so she stood up and walked to the front room, just like she was told to do. When she walked into the room, she heard Sam's last comment about him helping out in the kitchen. "Come on, Leah! Let him help! And then you can let me help too!" She grinned. "I really feel bad for you guys slaving over the stove like that all day for this HUGE meal. I don't mind helping out! Really!" She tried to get her friend to give in and let her cook but somewhere, in the back of her mind, she knew that wasn't possible. But it didn't hurt to try.

Standing in Leah's front room he waited patiently for Emily to appear, he kept one hand wrapped around Leah's. He listened in the other room as the girl approached to where they were standing. Turning slightly in her direction, a warm smile pulling up his dark lips. His eyes focused on the girl as she entered the room. Her dark hair...beautiful face...a sweet look about her.
A weird sensation coursed through him, the expression on his face brightened. He felt as if he had been cut off from the rest of the world and was now floating briefly between worlds. As suddenly as he had been cut off, he was now attached to another world...Emily's. The attachment he felt now was strong, unbreakable. Everything that he had ever known was changed. Everything gravitated around Emily. Sam squeezed Leah's hand as the girl spoke, her words sounded like nothing he had ever heard before. The sound was comforting, he felt as if he lived to listen to her...be around her.
As he stared out her he remembered why he was here. To meet her. "Hi," he replied stupidly. It was the best he could think of now. His hand was still wrapped around Leah's.

Leah had turned her head to laugh at Emily's teasing but when Sam's hand tighten on her's she looked up at him. "Sam?" Leah asked, "Neither of you are allowed to help! Emily cooks enough as it is, and Sam has to keep you company today, oh! Sam, this is my favorite person in the world, next to you and my Father, of course." Leah was 'Daddy's little girl' and everyone knew it. "Emily, this is Sam, who I have told you all about." Leah thought maybe Sam was nerviness about meeting Emily. She had built up this moment and told him how Emily's opinion meant so much to her. Maybe that was it.
"While I have a free moment and we all three are here, Sam and I want to ask something of you Emily." Leah warped her arm around Sam, and leaned into him, hoping he would relax and be about to talk to Emily today with her busy with her mother, "Will you be my maid of honor when Sam and I get married?"

"Hi." Emily replied back to Sam, with a small smile. Then, she turned her attention to Leah when she started to tell Emily that there was no way that she would be getting in the kitchen. "Oh, come on! You know that I don't mind!" She tried again but knew it would just fail. Leah introduced her and Sam and again, she smiled at Sam, who looked really nervous.
Emily was going to say something about Sam being nervous but Leah interrupted with something different. When Leah asked Emily to be her maid of honour, she was speechless for a minute but then nodded and ran over to Leah to give her a huge hug. "Of course I'll be your maid of honour. I'm so honoured that you chose me." She smiled at Leah.

Sam almost didn't register Leah's words as she spoke, still staring at his new world. He shook his head, trying to clear his mind as he tried to speak. "Uh, okay," he responded when Leah told them that neither of them could help in the kitchen. He could care less if he was allowed in there or not, unless of course Emily was in there too.
Though Leah's arm around his waist would usually comfort him, it didn't now, he actually didn't think anything of it anymore. He remained stiff despite the usual calming touch. Then as Leah spoke, asking Emily to be the maid of honor at their wedding...Leah and Sam's wedding.... He was brought back down to reality. There was no way he could marry Leah. Not when he had Emily standing here before him. His heart raced, how was he supposed to call off a wedding? How was he supposed to explain this? However he did it, he had to do it as kindly as possible. He still cared for Leah, just not in the same way as before.
Pulling away from Leah as Emily came over to hug her cousin Sam's heart thumped faster. He had to tell her how he felt. But not now. He just smiled hugely at her as he thought over how he was going to do this.

Leah hugged Emily tightly but looked at Sam over Emily's shoulder. She wanted to ask him if he was ok but he had been distant so much since he reappeared from being missing. So she tried to hide her worry face and give him a smile and mouthed the words 'I love you, Sam' before letting Emily go and looking at her. "I am so happy you said yes! We will have to plan so much later but I really have to go help my Mother--and No, your not allowed to help." She got in before Emily could offer again.
"You and Sam should get to know each other. Your my favorite people. I love you both so much." Leah was speaking to Emily but glanced over at Sam when she spoke about loving them. Since he had come back and been different she had tried to let him know as much as passable she still loved him and was here for him, no matter what horrible thing had happened to him.
"Ok, off to the coal mines!" She teased and kissed Emily's cheek and then moved over to kiss Sam's lips, lingering a moment. "If you need me, yell." She said and then walked out of the room, and back to her mother.

Emily was still a little speechless by the fact that Leah had asked her to be her maid of honour but she was also, very excited. Emily nodded when Leah mentioned planning and then went to say that she needed to go help Sue. She was about to tell Leah that she would go do it instead of Leah so that they could spend some time together but Leah got ahead of me and told me that I wasn’t allowed at all.
“Well, I love you too.” She gave Leah another quick hug and then watched for a quick moment at the love between the two of them. They would definitely be together, forever. Then, Leah broke the silence again and kissed Emily’s cheek and Sam before leaving. “Yeah, if you need any help, call me right away!” She called to Leah after she had just left the room.
Emily turned back to Sam and gave him a small smile. “Hi Sam.” Emily started off with. She wasn’t really sure how to start talking to him. They didn’t know each other but she was also sure that by the end, they would become great friends. They just needed to get the ball rolling. There was a long pause before Emily broke the silence. “Okay, well, I’ll just come out and say this. Please, don’t hurt Leah or I WILL have to kill you after.” Emily let out a small laugh, though she was serious.

Watching as Leah mouthed her words of love to him Sam felt the guilt of not being able to return the gesture. It wasn't Leah he loved anymore, at least not in the same way she loved him. The love Sam felt toward Leah was different now, it wasn't a romantic love, but something instead closer to that of the love you'd show a sister.
As Leah spoke Sam came back down to reality, the high of first setting eyes on Emily Young fading into something...not less powerful...but something that wasn't so shocking and that would allow him to focus better on the going ons around him. The corner of his dark lips willed into a slight smile as Leah spoke about getting to know Emily better. Sam's stomach twisted nervously at the thought of getting to know the girl that tied him to her world better. It was an odd sensation, someone you barely know being the one that held you there, and the fact that she had no idea how entirely she held you add to it.
Sam didn't return Leah's kiss as he would have usually, if she had still been a girlfriend, or fiancee, but instead as if she were in fact his sister. He nodded as she told them how to get ahold of her if they found it necessary to call upon her presence. Glancing quickly as she left the room, he turned back to Emily. "Hello," he greeted in return. He grinned hugely at her.
The previous grin fell slightly and he gulped hard at Emily's joking, yet with the slight edge of a threat, words. If she only knew what he had to do now. He pulled the smile back up, trying to pass off the previous hesitation and fear. "You won't have to worry, I'd never hurt Leah intentionally," he told her. And it was true, he had never intended on this happening.

Hearing that Sam would not hurt Leah intentionally did help Emily a little. But she saw a slight hesitation before he answer. Emily had been worried that maybe Sam was going to use Leah somehow since he had ran away from his mother and Leah without telling them. "I'm glad to hear that." She smiled and finally loosen up a little, after getting what she wanted off her chest. But now.. she didn't know what else to talk about. Emily looked at Sam, who stared back like he was somehow in love with her.. or something. She couldn't put the right word on it. Emily just guessed that was the way Sam looked at everyone.

Quietly clearing his throat Sam turned to look away from Emily, trying to clear his head. How could this be? How could he lay one look at this girl and instantly fall in love? He had never been one to believe in love at first sight, he thought love was something that grew over time. But now, his beliefs were being shoved aside, new ones forcing their way in place of the old. Love at first sight was real.
But this was stronger than love. He had loved Leah. Still loved Leah. This new feeling, was different. His whole world would revolve around the girl that stood in front of him. He would do anything to make her happy, anything to keep her safe, and harm anyone who hurt her.
Turning back with a genuine smile he asked her, "How do you like La Push so far?" He had to strike up conversation with her, get to know her better.

She replies to his smile with one of her own before answering his question. ”Well, it’s definitely changed.” She laughed a little. “But so far, I’m really enjoying it. I missed everyone here so it’s nice to see everyone again. It’s going to suck when I have to go back to school though.” She paused before coming up with a question of her own. “Have you been in La Push all your life?” She asked him.(Sorry that it's so small! )

He nodded to her as he went and took a seat on one of the couches in the Clearwater's living room. "Why don't you sit down?" he offered, looking meaningfully at the different areas to sit around them.
Shrugging his broad shoulders as he started talking. "Ooo, school, fun," he said sarcastically. He was a little shocked that he now found himself comfortable enough to use sarcasm around the girl that he had just given himself to, and she had no idea the hold she had on him.
He leaned back against the soft back of the couch and nodded. "Yeah, I've lived here all my life," he told her, "Generations of my family have lived here."

Emily sat down on the opposite side of the couch Sam was already sitting on. "Yeah, school is so much fun." She replied, being sarcastic as well. And it was true, partly. Sometimes, school was really fun, especially when you got to make your own recipes and then, actually make your dish that you created. But then, some days, they weren't that fun. Taking notes wasn't one of Emily's favourite things to do. She was more of a hands-on girl.
"Generations of your family? Wow. How many generations?" She asked, very interested now. She loved hearing about other people's family history. She didn't know why, it just did.

"Oh yeah," he started, turning his body toward her. He smiled warmly at her and leaned forwards so his elbows rested on his knees. "I only know of my great grandfather, Levi Uley, anytime before that no one seems to know for some reason."
There was so much more Sam could tell her about his history, his lifestyle, what he was. But he couldn't, it was a pact, a treaty that was created many years ago that kept him from saying anything to anyone. The only way he could tell her was if he had imprinted. Imprinted. Just then it hit him what had just happened between Emily and him, the thing she was so obliviously unaware of. He had been told by Old Quil, Billy Black, and Harry Clearwater the legends of the shapeshifters, the werewolves. But he hadn't actually thought that imprinting was real. His eyes widened slightly at the realization of it all. He could tell her, but only once he knew she felt the same way about him that he did about her.
"Where are you originally from?" he asked, pulling himself from his reverie. He knew Leah had probably told him a thousand times, but for some reason he couldn't remember.
