Paul was not a shy person. He often spoke whatever was on his mind whether it was appropriate or not, and whether it was kind or not. Oddly enough, he tended to vocalize more rude comments rather than polite ones. But today . . . he was reluctant to speak. It was a first for Paul to be in such a state, but he was truly stuck and was not sure what else to do. It wasn't that he needed help in the love department, it was just that he needed to know more about this . . . imprinting business. And who better to ask than the first woman who had imprinted on since the wolves were rampant in La Push: Emily Young.
She and Sam had a great relationship, well as far as Paul knew . . . and could see every time Sam phased. Paul was happy to have imprinted, and have that same sort of closeness with someone . . . but Rachael Black . . Jacob's sister . . . Billy's daughter . . . he was not sure what that meant. He just needed to get advice from a woman's perspective. He was not that close to Kim, and Leah . . . well, that was just out of the question. The only other person there was, was Emily. And she displayed enough maternal qualities for him to be certain that she would not make fun of him and ridicule him for having imprinted on who he did. Besides, she was always cooking and there could be a delicious, big meal in the near future.
He did not bother knocking, and just walked right into her place. It was practically a second home to him. No wait, he probably spent more time here than he did in his own home. He liked the atmosphere, and the fact that the air was always filled with the aroma of food certainly made things better. . . much, much better. "Hello?" He called, wanted to see if any of the other guys were here. If they were, he would have to reschedule; he did not want to talk about this in front of them. And he also wanted to make sure Sam and Emily did not need . . . privacy right now, since he did come here uninvited.

Emily was used to the pack members sudden entry's it had been her who scolding them for knocking, saying this was every bit their home as it was hers. "Paul? I'm in here." Emily called, indicating the kitchen. She was up to her elbows in cookie dough trying to keep her mind off the fact that Sam and Jared were the ones out patrolling at the moment. She fought the urge to jump when the timer went off, sometimes when she got really into cooking little things surprised her and she jumped in shock. She fought to get her arms from there doughy prison and failed. Frowning she called to Paul for help. "Oh no, Paul could you please turn that off and take those cookies out? You can be my taste tester." She smiled slightly knowing the last sentence was pointless. The second she turned her back the kid would have a mouth full of cookie and it wouldn't matter to him that said cookie would burn any non-shape shifters mouth.

Paul was relieved when he didn't hear Sam's voice. No one else knew about the fact that he had imprinted, and he needed to know more about it before they found out . . . just in case they took jabs at him. The words 'taste tester' rung in Paul's ears and he was very eager to get those cookies out of the oven so that he could eat one . . . or two . . . or half . . . or all of them. Yes, all. That was his plan.
He made his way to the kitchen, and was so distracted by the smell of cookies that he forgot to turn off the timer: he went straight for the oven. Not bothering to put on oven mitts -- since even if he did burn himself, the wound would soon heal -- he opened it, and took them out. "Mmmm, they smell amazing. What kind are they?" He asked, picking one up and popping it in his mouth. He didn't even have the patience to let them cool down. How could someone wait when they had such an delicious smelling baked good sitting right in front of them.
"Mmeclisicous!" He said, his words barley understandably for his mouth was filled with scolding hot cookies. It sounded more like muffled gibberish, but when he mouth was empty, he would repeat himself . . . or just reach for another cookie. They were delicious -- the word he had been trying to say, but failed --. He reached for another when he swallowed the first.

Emily rolled her eyes at Paul, obviously he barely cared what kind they were, as long as they tasted good, Emily could have said "I tried a new recipe, prune and peanut." With out such a thing causing a stir. "They are kind of a mix. I added white and milk chocolate chips." She laughed at hid mumbled reply, a little afraid of the fact that she under stood it. She was slacking, letting the boys talk with their mouths full wasn't exactly polite. "Thanks for the help kid." She smiled slightly at the nick name, Paul may be older than her but that never seemed to stop her. She concentrated on pulling her left arm free, knowing she looked insanely idiotic didn't help her with her quest. Finally she got half her arm free, laughing at the large amount of doughy mess coving her arm. "I guess I got a little too into my cooking this time." She murmured

"Kid?" He said with a mouthful, as he was already stuffing another cookie in his mouth. Emily's place rocked! He chuckled at her dough covered arm, and just shrugged. "If this--" He said, holding up a cookie -- "Is what happens when you get into your cooking, then hell . . . do it more often." And in seconds the cookie was gone. He was going to be bragging about these cookies to everyone. And -- if Emily didn't catch him -- he would make sure there were none left for any one else. This was how Paul's 'evil genius' mind worked . . . though it displayed no ingenuity at all.
"Is anyone else coming by anytime soon?" He asked. For two reasons: the first was related to the initial reason he had come here: to ask about imprinting. And the second reason was to see how many cookies he could get away with eating.

Emily smiled a half smile at Paul, rinsed her arms clean in the sink, and put another tray of cookies into the oven. "Yes kid, I call them like I see them Paul." Emily answered with a little laugh. She shifted so she was leaning aganist the counter, stealing a chocolate chip from the bag and lettig it melt in her mouth. "I think some one would have to cut off both my arms before I would stop cooking, even then I'd make it work." Emily giggled She wiped down the counter and rested her head on her hand. "No, I think I'm alone for awhile. Why did you need something from Sam?" Em asked

Paul grinned and walked over to her, peering down at her since there was a significant height difference. "The way I see it . . . I don't look like a kid at all," he said smiling childishly as he went back to her tray of cookies and popped another in his mouth. Paul didn't think he could ever get full. These were way too delicious to stop eating. "Don't ever stop cooking! You wouldn't ever deprive poor me of your amazing cooking, now would you?" He looked at her, with a mock pout. "The cooking world would never be the same." Not that Paul cooked or anything . . . perhaps he should have said the eating world . . . but either way, it would be devastating if Emily decided to stop cooking one day.
He gulped as she answered his question. "Uh . . . no, not really." He was going to chicken out. Wait! Paul? A chicken?! No way! "I actually needed to talk to you about something." He paused, putting another cookie in his mouth and using that as an excuse to not go further at the moment.

Emily put her hands on her hips and looked up at Paul's towering form. She raised an eye brow at him and shook her head. "Alright Paul, the very-un-kid-like-wolf-man." Emily replied spinning on her heals and rolling her eyes, he would always be a kid to her, he was a kid at heart. Emily giggled at Paul's pout, "I wasn't planning on stopping, some how I have to hide some of those cookies from you mister eats a lot. I do have other mouths to feed." She hit him over the head with a kitchen towel and looked pointedly at the almost empty tray in front of him. She was joking of course, she'd half to be crazy to make just one tray of cookies around here, and there was another in the oven which she knew Paul was well aware of. She went to the fridge and pulled out some milk. Grabbing two glasses she poured one full to the brim and the other half full, sliding the larger amount to Paul she set hers down on the counter and turned to face him. "I think I'm up for a chat, whats on your mind?" She asked sipping her milk.

Paul continued to grin as he took two more cookies, and now the glass of milk that was put in front of him. He of course, wolfed it down in one massive gulp, making a sound to express his refreshment over a nice, cold glass of milk. Okay, he had to ask her now. No more stalling. If he stalled any longer, he would lose any chance of getting a woman's perspective of imprinting. "I was just wondering about . . . " How was he going to ask this without sounding too feminine, or like he wanted to have a girl chat. "Well, like how did you feel when Sam first imprinted on you, and he just randomly starting liking you?" Was that a good way of asking it? He sort of just blurted out the question. But Paul was never one to think before he spoke. He just sat there, anxiously waiting for her response.

Emily was so shocked she had to fight not to erupt in tears. Was he really asking about the time that she had taken Sam from Leah? She put her hands around the cool glass and took a deep breath. She couldn't meet his eyes. He was asking how she felt. Why would anybody care how she had felt? The girl who broke her best friends heart. "Uh I-" She began, her voice barely above a whisper, but she knew Paul could hear her just fine. She finally looked up at Paul begging him to understand, realize what it had been like for her. "I hated him. I hated him for liking me and hurting her. I hated him for making her hate me. Leah was my best friend, my sister, the person I loved most in the world and he took her away from me." Emily stopped herself and shook her head a love sick smile on hr face. "Eventually though I realized that we were meant for each other and that I loved him. We were literally made for each other. Even my love for Leah couldn't stop me from saying yes to Sam. She hated me anyway and refused to let me explain." Emily balled her hands into fists, her nails cutting into the palms of her hands and drew them up to cover her face. "I blame myself for how she is. I killed her Paul. I killed the girl that was so funny and kind." She could feel the scares on her cheek next to her fingers. They were almost completely smooth but had a raised feeling to them.just enough so she'd always know they were there when she touched her face. "I don't deserve it but I have the truest love." She whispered trying to calm herself down, "One day your going to find someone like that too Paul and she's going to be a lucky girl." Emily promised with a small smile.

Oh god. She looked like she was about to cry and Paul was the last person who could comfort someone. He didn't know how to deal with a crying woman. All he could keep thinking was please don't cry . . . please don't cry . . . and with this hopeful phrase repeatedly screaming in his mind, he listened as attentively as he could to the answer to his question. He had not meant to illicit such an emotional reaction from her, but then again he had not fully thought about the consequences of his question and what deep seated emotions and pain it may arise from Emily. Clearly, it was a painful subject to discuss . . . .but Paul did not try to bring it to an end. He needed to get some information on someone who had been imprinted on, and Emily was the only one he could ask.
"So wait, even though Sam was with Leah . . . you still loved him? Like, the second he imprinted on you, did you fall for him too?" He wasn't trying to make her cry, he was trying to understand the mind of an imprinted woman -- which was most certainly a dangerous place to go. "Imprinting is kinda like love at first sight, sorta." He needed to stop sounding so sappy. "How long did it take you to hook up with Sam?" There. That sounded more blunt. Little did he know how much he had ignored the pain she was expressing through reminiscing about the time she had broken her cousin's heart. Paul didn't care about Leah's broken heart. It just sucked for her that she wasn't the one Sam had imprinted on.

Emily sighed. She wanted to help Paul but he was making her dig into something she was hopping to let stay buried. She tried to look at what happened as if she wasn't the one who'd done it. "No I loathed Sam. He on the other hand adored me. I couldn't help it though, he had hurt Leah!" She tried to explain the feeling of someone hurting someone you loved. You would hate that person and even strike out at them in anger. "I didn't realize I loved him until he hurt me." She said "He told me about imprinting and the treaty and him being a wolf but come on it's not the easiest thing to believe right away. I got angry and yelled at him to leave me alone and stop lying to me. He got mad too and phased....well you know what happened. I couldn't not love him when he was so upset over what he'd done. After he had promised not to hurt me." She shook her head thinking back on that unfortunate night. "If it happens to you Paul don't over react. I know if you phased to show her, you'd be careful." She reached out and put her hand on top of his, smiling. The timer on the oven went off and Emily literally jumped in surprise. She flew toward it and turned it off. Taking a moment to calm down before she took the cookies out.

Paul thought about that for a moment. He had no problem admitting that he had the worst temper out of the pack. Perhaps this whole imprinting thing would be good though . . . would help ease some of that anger. But in the meantime? What if he hurt her? Naah! Paul was too arrogant to believe he could not keep his phasing under control, at least when he was with her. "Well, he made good on that promise." So far. Paul lightly chuckled. "Man, I remember when that whole thing with Leah happened, and how shocked everyone was." Paul slightly shrugged his shoulders. "You shouldn't feel guilty or bad about this. This isn't something we can control or anything." He knew she knew that, but he wanted to remind her, not that he thought it would make much of a difference.
When she got up to get the new batch of cookies, even though the delicious aroma filled the room, Paul stayed seated. He thought about what she had said . . . how she had felt. She knew he had imprinted -- well, that much was obvious considering the questions he was asking. "Its Rachael," he blurted out, still sitting there as he looked at Emily, waiting for her reaction.

Emily didn't comment on what Paul was saying. She knew that what had happened couldn't be helped but that didn't stop her from feeling bad about it. She loved Sam so very much, but she couldn't help wondering why fate had been so cruel. The cookies slid onto a plate and Emily went back to face Paul. She was so lucky to have set down the plate before Paul had spoken because the news was shocking. Rachael Black had, had a crush on Paul in high school. Emily remembered Leah telling her all about it. Paul had taken her twin sister Rebbecca to prom, and it had broken Rachael's heart. She smiled, she couldn't help it this news was far to wonderful. "Oh Paul thats fantastic!' Emily cried. She flew around the counter to hug him she was so excited. Emily folded her hands on the counter thinking about the trials that lay ahead for Paul and Rachael. "Have you thought about how your going to tell her?" Emily asked, her face portraying none of her worry. She looked interested, if anything.

"Woah!" Paul slowly put his arms around her, half returning the hug. Paul was not a huggy person, but he knew that Emily was . . . and since no one else was around . . . he may as well. Besides, she seemed rather excited about this. "Is it? Really? I figured it would be easier if it was someone else ya know?" He didn't forget about that fling he had with Rebecca, not to mention the fact that Jake was her brother. Wait . . . . that could be fun! Paul would have another way to get under Jacob's skin. "But I guess we can't help it." He was not about to go into detail about how amazing he felt when he was around, and how breathtakingly beautiful she was to him . . . no. He was going to assume Emily knew all about the emotions that went along with imprinting as she had been the first one to experience a wolf imprinting on her.
"I have no idea. I'm going out with her tonight. I guess it wouldn't be a good conversation to have on a first date," he said, slightly chuckling at the thought of explaining wolves and vampires over a nice dinner. "I'm not . . . used to this kind of thing. Well, I mean I'm not used to being so ready to start a new life with a woman. I guess I'll have to slow things down for her . . . cause I don't think she's ready to hear it yet. How long did it take Sam to tell you 'bout everything?"

Emily laughed at Paul's reaction to her hug, "Sorry I forgot for a second that your not exactly the hugging type." Emily said with a small laugh, "Thats just so wonderful though!" Emily thought about it for a moment, yeah Jake might be a little upset but he'd get over it. Imprinting wasn't exactly a controllable thing. "No I'm glad it's Rachael, she deserves a good guy Paul, your a great guy." She said smiling. She didn't mean it in a oh my God Paul's so wonderful kind of way, more like a sister recognizing the goodness in her brother. "Ha ha, no it can't be helped but it will work out Paul, Rachael has always liked you, you just have to be honest with her." Emily smiled she couldn't believe how fantastic this was. Two people that were most deferentially meant to be together were finally going on their first date. "Yeah be careful Paul, get to know her first. Let her get to know you. The good in you, the part that will focus on her and make her happy." Emily agreed, while spraying another pan with cooking spray for the next batch of cookies. "Sam, well once I started to like him, told me sort of by mistake after about two weeks. Judge the time more as when you think it's the right time to tell her. Your right, tonight might be pushing things kiddo." Emily said giggling and reverting back to another ridiculous nick name.

Normally, Paul would throw out a flirtatious remark, teasing Emily but he did not even feel that was right anymore; not when he was so ready to commit to another woman. Though, an arrogant part of him knew that things had to work out . . . that there was no way they couldn't. Little did he know how much he would have to put into this relationship with Rachael. It was just the beginning right now . . . things were preliminary, well, at least for her they were. For him, he was already planning on marrying her. "No worries," he reassured when she apologized for the hug. "I think I've softened up a bit today. . . one hug ain't gonna kill my rep," he said with a bit of a wink.
Her next comment -- or compliment rather -- was one that Paul did not hear often from people. He was a great guy? Well, he didn't think he wasn't, but it was different hearing it from someone else. He valued Emily's opinion, which was the reason she had been one of the first people he had told this to. "She did? I guess it makes sense . . . she didn't exactly say no when I asked her out. I guess I knew her in high school though." Wait . . . WAIT! "Yeah . . . okay its a good thing she said yes. I sorta made her get detention in one class, and I may have also almost made her fail a project." Paul lightly laughed. Funny how things worked out! If he had felt back then how he did now . . . he would have been far more of a gentleman with her.
His reminiscing made Emily's next advice very important, and he knew he would have to follow it. "I guess I didn't really leave a good impression with her, but hey, it wasn't bad enough for her to say no." She seemed interested in him . . . who wouldn't be?! "So tell me, what sorta things does she like? Having a bit of a head start would be awesome." Paul listened attentively to how long it had taken Sam to tell Emily. "What? By mistake? What exactly happened?" Paul made a face at the nickname, but nodded in agreement. "Come on Em, don't make me practice my flirting on you now," he teased. He couldn't help it . . . it had become such a habit, that even now, when he had such strong feelings for another woman, he had to crack a joke or two with Em. "Then again, its not like I need much practice . . . since I'm never really out of practice . . . if you know what I mean," he said a little cockily. This would be his reaction to nicknames like 'kiddo'.

Emily laughed, "Well thats good, wouldn't want to endanger your reputation Paul." Emily said rolling her eyes. Emily who was busy making little round cookie dough balls stopped and looked at Paul her face shocked. "You made her get detention, and fail a project!" She frowned and threw a ball of cookie dough at him knowing he'd catch it before it hit him, "Now how did you manage that?" She asked Emily couldn't believe him. She shook her head smiling, Paul was a great guy, when he wanted to be. Emily hopped he'd be better to Rachael now, if not Emily would be just a little angry. "To be honest I don't know Rachael. I remember she was very pretty but all the rest Leah told me, she's the one who went to school with you all." Emily didn't think Paul was going to go and warm up to Leah to ask about Rachael though. "Yeah it wasn't on purpose. Sam had no one to talk to about being a wolf. I told him how I liked to take long walks in the woods alone, helped me think, and he kind of lost it and told me." Emily laughed, but at the time she hadn't Sam's unexpected reaction had scared her and she hadn't believed him, until he phased. Emily gave Paul a 'are you serious' look putting one hand on her hip and looking at him with her head cocked to the side. "I didn't know nick names like kiddo could make someone want to flirt. Your an odd one." When he finished his statement Emily threw her hands in the air pretending to be all frustrated before laughing at his ridiculousness. "Be good to Rachael Paul. Be the gentleman I know is in there somewhere. Otherwise you'll have to deal with me." Emily finished with a laugh. Would could she do with hold food from him? Thats the only thing she could think of to motivate him.

Paul caught the ball of cookie dough, and like a small child, he began to eat it. "Mmmm, cookie dough!" He exclaimed. After a few more bites, he realized that they were having a serious conversation. But cookie dough was just too delicious to not acknowledge. "Hey hey, almost made her fail," he emphasized. "Okay, so she should probably hate my guts . . . but doesn't look like she does. I mean, how can anyway fight the Paul Moran charm, am I right?" He took another bite, before briefly going into the story. "I don't remember much of it. I think it was something about genetics or whatever . . . anyway, we sorta kept arguing, our teacher gave us detention . . . then I tried to make her egg a car." Paul chuckled as he vaguely remembered that day . . . his laughter ceased when he realized he had a lot to make up to Rachael.
Paul suddenly smiled when he thought about seeing her today. "She's . . . amazing." How could he describe her? Words escaped him when he thought about her. Besides, that was all the sensitive stuff that he should be saying to the girl he was in love with; not to Em and the guys who would know its far too out of character for him to go on about. "Yeah. Man, why did Leah have to be the one to know her well." Emily was absolutely right in thinking that he was not going to go up to Leah and ask her about Rachael. He already was reluctant to tell her he imprinted, though he would find a way to make it annoying to Leah. He would have to leave Sam out of it though; Sam got pretty angry about that sort of thing.
"I bet that was hard." It was one of the reasons all the other wolves admired Sam so much: because he had went through the entire phasing thing on his own. "Its good he shared it with you and stuff. Its funny to think that you were in the know before all of us," he commented, thinking that was rather ironic.
"I'll be more than good to her. Wouldn't want to answer to you . . . you're scarier than the whole pack put together. Last thing I want is to be on your bad side," he said teasingly. "But you don't have to worry about her. I'm going to take care of her." She was everything to him; Rachael Black had become the center of his universe in the blink of an eye.

Emily shook her head sighing as Paul ate the intended cookie dough bomb. She should have known not to throw something editable at Paul, she'd keep that in mind for next time. "Oh no Paul your charm is completely enough to make any girl head over heels for you." Emily rolled her eyes, "Egg a car. That would be so unfortunate for the person do you realize-" Emily stopped her self shaking her head and waited for him to continue his story. Emily beamed at Paul when he began to talk about Rachael, he was so clearly enthralled with her and it make Emily astoundingly happy to see so. "It's not my fault. I didn't get to chose where I lived." Emily said laughing a little. She had an image of Paul going to Leah and asking her for help- it was really quite funny really. "It really is sort of strange, I think it helped him to tell me though. Then we got all of you to talk to about it, and now I have another girl, anotherimprintee to talk to. Thats wonderful Paul." She smiled but she was worried about Rachael it wasn't an experience she had grown to love all that much. She had the scars on her face to think about it every day. "Oh I am the scariest, you have no idea what I'm like when I first wake up Paul, you'd run for your life, your tail between your legs the whole way." She laughed, although she really wasn't the best of morning people. Sam knew this thats why he always took such care when waking her up. "I should hope so, she seems like a wonderful person. I know you'll treat her well." Emily said making some more cookie dough balls to place onto the next tray. If Paul did something stupid the whole pack would be on him like white on rice anyway.
[[ooc: that whole rice deal was for you ]]
