The worst was over . . . or at least that was what Paul and most everyone assumed. The battle had not quite turned into a battle, and the leeches were finally gone. That was just it . . . Paul had to make sure that they were. All he could think about was going home to spend every possible moment with Ray, but the work of a wolf was endless, and he wanted that peace of mind that there were no more blood suckers around so that he could finally put his mind at ease and relax. They had all split up, patrolling different areas . . . Paul`s district came close to the boundary line between La Push and Neah Bay. He did not go there often. He stayed on his own reservation, finding no reason to be on the other one.
But under the circumstances, he wanted to make sure that none of the leeches were there . . . despite the fact that it was out of La Push`s jurisdiction, Paul didn`t want them anywhere near his home. He walked a bit slowly, making sure that he was being thorough; he couldn`t afford to miss a single scent. And that was when his strong wolf scent picked up a smell . . . there was another wolf nearby, and it was not one from his pack. No. It was completely unfamiliar, and Paul raised his guard. Must be someone from Jacob`s pack . . . but then again, who would join his pack before Sam`s? Paul was going to have to have a chat with this wolf . . . well, so to speak.

He was being hunted.
Ian caught the smell first and felt the furr on his neck stand up. Then he caught the ever so fait sounds of large feet patting on the ground. There was a wolf on his ground, and not one he had ever smelled before, nor were they in his mind. Where did this other wolf come from and how did he hide his thoughts? Ian felt something akin to goose bumps all over his body as the sounds got closer, and Ian moved so he was directly in whoever's path.
Ian put his front paws on a fallen log, so that he would appear taller on first sighting and watch, and waited until the large sliver wolf showed it's self. This wasn't a young wolf, newly turned. It had control and size built up. How did he hide his thoughts? Ian wondered, casually if there was an other pack out there. Looking behind the silver wolf, Ian knew the smaller reservation of La Push were down that way, a place the Makah wolves did not travel to. They stayed close to the towns, not wanting to draw out side attention and also so nothing got past them.
Who are you, Ian wondered.

Paul HATED when this happened. He hated not being able to communicate with another wolf. It was hard enough dealing with Jacob's pack, the last thing he needed now was some new wolf who was lost and he wasn't able to even talk to him! Damn Jacob. He should keep a closer watch on his pack . . . as Paul was still under the assumption that this wolf was part of the alpha's pack. Paul just stared at him. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with your pack?
Paul's tone was sarcastic, but of course, this wolf wouldn't know that . . . he knew it was frivolous to try and communicate with him, but for defensive purposes, Paul was not going to be the first to phase out of his wolf form. He looked at the stranger and straightened himself a little, as if to say, 'You first' . . . whether the wolf understood that or not, Paul couldn't be sure . . . he would just have to communicate with him non verbally until he phased.

Ian knew there was no way around this, but it still annoyed him. He was the only one on patrol right now but he knew the others would be joining him with in an hour or less. Ian gave a grunt in annoyance at the other wolf, then closed his eyes as he unphased, focused on calming down enough to do so.
As a man Ian stood up to his six plus feet, still on the log to make him taller, and looked down on the other wolf. She did not smile, and did not act shy over his naked self. He watched the wolf, knowing this could be a dangerous move, but also knowing he could phase in a second and take him down. Ian was the fighter of the pack, he knew he could handle this wolf if things turned into a fight. Granted, the wolf might have a surprise move or two, but Ian had spent most his time training to try to work off his anger. "A little far north, aren't you?"

HA! This small thing made Paul oddly happy. He hated waiting, and he hated having silent, unspoken yet mutually understood competitions with other people. He liked mouthing off, and the more he suppressed all of his smart ass remarks, the more they built up, and the harder it was for him to phase out. But now, he was glad that this punk kid had phased first, though he stool took a moment to look at the human face of this guy before phasing out himself, and putting on the pair of jeans that was wrapped around his leg.
He looked just as unfamiliar as a human than he did as a wolf. Paul thought he would have recognized all of the faces from La Push, even vaguely since the reservation was not that large and everyone tended to know everyone else. He ignored his comment, and looked at the guy skeptically. "Who the hell are you?" In other words: where did you come from, which pack are you from, and what are you doing here.
