Rachael was rather excited today, as she left the home she was now sharing with Paul, and got into her little blue bug. She paused a moment to rest after getting into her car, and smiled to her self. She had not seen Fern in years. They had been childhood friends despite the age difference between them. Rachael being a few years older, then Fern.
It had not really mattered to them back then, and now that they were older, Rachael thought age didn't matter as much. Rachael turned the car on, and drove out of their driveway. Paul (for wolf reasons) had wanted the house just out side of town, and close to the woods. Rachael agreed, even while hoping it would not ben needed very long. Wanting Paul to stop phasing was a double edged sword. On one hand, he would be safer and have much less stress. On the other . . . .
Rachael lacked the strong self confidence to believe that when Paul stopped phasing and the magic that made him imprint on her, would not go away.
Thoughts of that was not going to bring down Rachael today however. Today she was going to be happy and meet with Fern and catch up with old times.
After a few moments while almost felt like hours, Rachael had arrived at the house Fern lived in. She pulled in slowly making sure she hit nothing, and came to a park. Rachael smiled brightly, glad to be here and got out while hurrying up to the door. [/blockquote](TAG: FERN! Do you think they would have kept in touch over the years? letters then e-mails or something?) ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Being home had certainly become a different thing than Fern had remembered. On the one hand she was rather joyful to have returned home, where she didn't quite stick out among the crowd. On the other hand being here made the memories of her mother stronger. She could see her, figuratively, walking down the hallways tiding up and fixing some of the smallest things. It was hard to be rather, and it almost hurt her to have to look at the home. It contained so many happy memories, but they felt long gone at this point.
Sighing softly, Fern hummed a soft tune as she skittered around the house. It felt eerie with the silence other than her humming that now filled it, it was something that she had no memories. She pulled her hair back and out of her face with a simple hair band, though it was loosely done and easily fell back into her face. As she moved she fixed some old pictures, something she knew her mother would have done. She had turned into a perfectionist. Like her.
Fern heard a soft knocking, which she found to her surprise. She placed down the rag that she had been dusting some furniture with, moving toward the front door. The lock clicked, and she opened to the door. "Rachael?" The question was soft-spoken like her, though she certainly remembered her old friend! She had a strong memory, which seemed like it was going to come in handy today. As long as her friend's presence would be able to distract her from her mother, and being the perfectionist that she had grown up with - sometimes without even realizing it. But she was rather excited to see her, it had been so long! Even if they had stayed in brief touch.

Rachael's face brightened at being remembered. While she knew Fern would remember her, it had been years since they had seen each other. The fact that Fern recalled enough to remember what Rachael looked like made her feel better."Hey! You look wonderful! How are you? Is this a bad time?" Rachael asked hoping her unannounced visit was ok. "If it is then I can come back another time. I had just heard you moved back in town and I couldn't stay away."
Rachael had lost her mother a few years before Fern had, and at first had thought that maybe that would make them closer, and that Fern would be one of the few people who understood the lose. Then Fern's father moved them away and the few letters that they had exchanged Rachael had not wanted to fill with sad things. Only brief notes and good things in them. Such as how school went and her job. Nothing about running away from La Push, and nothing about feeling alone. She had only been back in La Push her self for about three months. Fern let a smile cross her tanned face when she saw Rachael's face brighten like a child's on Christmas day. "Hey! So do you!" Her voice was a bit calmer than her words as she spoke. She gave her an almost awkward, one armed hug before opening her door farther and motioning for her to come inside th house. It was pretty cold outside and she didn't want her to freeze or anything.
"Oh, it's perfectly all right," Fern assured her quickly. It was probably actually better now than when her father was home, he tended to make her a bit anxious at times. "I'm doing well, how are you?" She asked, her question sincere toward her old friend. She missed her more than she realized now that she was actually able to see her to face. Letters were nice and get things somewhat caught up, but there was only so much a person like her could say without it turning to a rather depressing or sad letter. Which wasn't something she wanted, as she knew that her dear friend had gone through the same thing with loosing her mother.

Rachael gave her a light hug back and stepped away. It was always hard to tell if you should hug someone or not, but Rachael was glad Fern had made the move first, as it saved her from debating on trying it or not. "I have good. I am sorry I have not wrote you in a few months. So much has been happening I have kept up with e-mails or anything." Rachael had allot of news, but she wasn't going to put it all out there so quickly.
"How long are you back in town? Are you staying, or just here for a little while?" Rachael asked, having only heard that Fern was back in town but none of the details. She hoped it wasn't prying but it seemed like an innocent enough question. Rachael wondered if she should pull off her coat, or if this was a bad time to stay for a long chat. She hoped it wasn't a bad time, but she could always come back later. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

Fern smiled slightly awkwardly at Rachael. "That's fine, I probably would have had a hard time responding anyway. It's a lot different there than it is here, it was annoying how they where so scared of me because of all those stereotypical Native American movies..." she said, sighing softly at the ending. At least here she didn't stick out like a sore thumb or anything. It had been a very uncomfortable situation for her, there. Especially with no one to be able to talk to about it.
A grimace appeared ever so slightly on her face at Rachael's question for her, before turning into a slightly softer, sadder expression. "I don't know, my dad's been a bit bipolar about everything lately. I could be out of here next week, but as far as I know I'm going to be here until I have to go to college." College was an antsy subject for her, she honestly didn't even want to go. She rather just get some job that was good enough to support herself and whoever her family ended up being as she got older. It was simple and easy, in her eyes.

Rachael had loved college, and often thought about taking more when she found time. Time was rare for her right now with a growing family. "I hope you get to stay, I would love to catch up with you be able to do some girl things." While she could do girl things with Emily, Rachael wanted to be able to do normal girl things with people who didn't know about the wolves. People that Rachael could say 'lets go to Forks to eat', and the person would not reply with 'I don't thing the wolves would like that.'
"Were you still in South Carolina before you moved here?" Rachael asked and hoped she had the state right. Over the past few months she had forgotten were Fern was. Rachael was sure that it was East Coast, but she forgot how far down south. [/blockquote] ((Icons not of my own making. Credit goes to 'Leah' of MP.))

A sheepish smile crossed Fern's face, and it took a moment for her to think of something that wouldn't sound utterly stupid to say. "Yeah, that would be nice. I'll be legal soon enough, though, so even if my father moves again I can just move back." She shrugged her shoulders, trying to sound optimistic about it thought it was a bit hard to for her. Staying positive could be hard, especially in her situation as far as she knew. Sure, death was just a part of life, but that didn't take away from it being sad.
"Yeah, South Carolina. Right in the city, as well." City girls where like in the movies, as far as Fern could really say. Most of them where total and utter snobs, and everyone had out casted her as if it was the sixties all over again, as if segregation was the same as it had ever been. Which made it hard. She was just glad that she was tough and had grown up mainly with her father. Tragedy did help in a twisted form, it helped her remain strong about something as simple as being an outcast among people around her.
