Esme stopped beside Carlisle and turned to listen to him. She closed her eyes to concentrate more with her sense of smell and hearing. In the distance she could hear the slight sound of hooves on dry leaves, the smell of musky deer, and the pounding of several hearts, pushing the blood through their veins. That was enough to craze Esme's newborn mind.
She suddenly pulled her hand from Carlisle's, letting herself fall into a crouch, and streaked further into the forest at top speed. Her feet barely touching the ground, her approach was silent, she could now see the herd of dear with her crimson eyes. She wasn't sure if Carlisle was behind her, or anywhere near her, as she singled out one of the prey. All of her reactions were instinctive, she didn't think on any of them as she tucked herself out of view from the dear. A few brief seconds passed until she bolted from behind the tree, startling the deer, and pounced on a large doe.
It didn't take her long to drain the herbivore, and she pushed it away from her. Esme was still thirsty, the burn slightly masked from the blood she had just consumed. Her instinct to hunt was still dominant as she flashed her eyes across the surrounding forest. The deer had fled, but she could still hear their pounding hooves on the ground. It would take her no more than a minute to catch up to them. Without warning she took off toward the fleeing prey, further into the forest.

Carlisle followed her deeper into the woods. He wanted to smile and encourage her, but wondered if this would scare her or comfort her. So, he reminded silent while she hunted, never letting her get more then a few feet from he if he could manage it. He was not going to hunt, and risk her turning on him to protect her self and her hunt.
While Carlisle had strong self control, the smell of the animals was still there. The need was there. He did not want to risk her going off alone however. Perhaps after a few more--
He stopped mid-thought when she bolted off after more. "Esme" He said and followed her, "Can you see what I have been saying, do you understand how you can live and not be a monster?" He asked as she went with her.

It wasn't long until Esme had taken down a second animal of the herd, this time a large stag. She sunk her razor sharp teeth through the butter-like flesh of the animal, quickly downing the large animal's blood. Feeling rather full she pushed the animal away from her body in disgust. Consuming blood was going to take time to get used to, though it dulled the burn, Esme couldn't help but feel that it was wrong.
Esme could immediately tell a difference now that she had consumed enough blood to temporarily mask the ongoing burn. She could concentrate more, without the burning thirst popping to the front of her thoughts. Just as she has pushed the buck off of her she had heard the words of Carlisle. She quickly stood up in one lithe movement, her clothing was covered in dirt and blood, some areas shredded from the powerful hooves of the struggling deer.
"This isn't considered being a monster?" Esme said shocked that he wouldn't. Though as she thought about what she could be feeding off of, she could see his point. "Oh," she whispered simply.

'This isn't considered being a monster?'
He hesitated a moment before answering, "Not to my mind." He watched her lovely face as he spoke, "I know this is not a very pleasing thing to do. It never will completely erase the need for human blood. However, it makes it possible to live." He let the corner of his lips pull up slightly in a very small half smile. "When I save someone's life because unlike humans, I don't get tired, and I can try harder & longer, or when I travel to places that someone like my human self could not have, and see things that children learn in history books many years later..."
He paused another moment as if thinking, "You find things to make it worth it, or to balance it. You find...someone...to share forever with, and you can find ways to be happy. Never normal for human standers, but...happy for anyone's standers." Carlisle looked into her eyes and knew what he wanted from life now. He wanted her. He wanted to show her everything, experience everything again, with her. He wanted to make this life, that she saw as evil and monstrous, the best life she could ever remember.
He wanted to make her happy. "When you learn things, though years upon years of practice," he walked closer to her, "and build skills that make you the best at what you do," reached out and tucked her hair behind her ear, slowly, even for a human, "then you get to use it all, when some happy little girl comes into your life with tears on her face and a broken bone. When you help her, you find that the answer is no. This is not so monstrous."

Glancing along the vast expanse of trees. Taking in everything with her enhanced eyesight. It was distracting, unlike anything else. Being able to see every facet of everything before her dark crimson colored eyes. It would have consumed her mind completely if anyone else had been speaking. But for some odd reason Esme found herself unable to tune out the melodic words of the doctor. She pulled her stare away from the foliage, only to meet the light colored eyes of Carlisle.
She listened as he explained that the temptation of human blood would never fade. But instead it would become more manageable and easy to resist. "How long does it take?" she asked, referring to being able to resist the blood of humans. She hoped it wouldn't take too long.
Esme's eyes scrunched as Carlisle mentioned that it was possible to find someone to spend this life with. She wondered if something like this had ever happened to Carlisle. Had he found someone to spend such a life with? At the thought her mood dropped. She didn't want that. The sudden shift in her mood was expressed on her face now, turning her lips into a slight frown. It was unusual how that one comment had affected her in such a way. "Have you found someone..." she hesitated, "To spend your life with?" Her voice was small, quiet, barely audible for someone with less enhanced hearing than theirs.
Surprised, she watched as Carlisle approached her, slowly. His words becoming saturated in an emotion new to her. She turned her head slightly as he reached out and tucked a strand of her caramel hair behind her ear, and then his words followed. He spoke about her, her in younger, human life. The first time she had ever met the divine man before her. And her previous question seemed ridiculous. She could see it in his eyes. No, he had never met someone to spend his life with. Until now. The emotion that consumed her now, blocking the masked burn completely, was brief and unusual to Esme. It was a want, a need.... She reached a hand out to touch the man's arm, his skin warm and unbelievably soft, she rested it there.

When she asked him if he had found someone Carlisle wondered if it was a good question. Either he was not being as clear as he thought or--Another thought came to him before he could finish his last one. She seemed like it was an important question. Was she hoping for his answer to be no, so she could become that person? Could she not tell it was already her?
"I think I have, Esme." He gave a hesitant chuckle. "I think I understand now, why I stole you from the morgue and changed you." Carlisle knew she was doing amazing well for a newborn. He also knew if they passed a human any time soon she might not be able to control what she did. He had to protect her from what he had done to her. He would find a way to do so.

Watching the look on Carlisle's face, she let her hand fall from his arm, letting it return to her side. His expression seemed to be one of confusion. She hadn't thought she had asked anything that would have been remotely confusing. Pulling her crimson eyes away from his light ones she let them rest on a leaf high up in the branches of a tree. Only turning back to him when his voice broke the silence.
Her face fell at his first sentence. He had found someone...she thought sadly. But both her caramel colored brows rose at the sound of the chuckle that escaped his lips. It was a brilliant sound, it comforted her. She loved the sound. But his next words canceled out the sadness. She had forgotten, she had seen it before in his burning golden eyes, and her previous thoughts of despair seemed unreasonable. She was the one. But how was that possible, she had only met this man one other time before this? Yet she felt the urge to spend forever with him too. It was an odd, unusual feeling, to want to spend forever with someone.
Esme took another breath, letting the air burn down her throat. It was uncomfortable, but she could ignore it for the time being. "Is that why you took me...to spend this life with me?" she questioned.

"Perhaps," He admitted, "It was not conscious thought; however it explain everything I am feeling right now." Carlisle let his hand rest on the back of her neck very gently. He wondered if these feelings he admitted to worry her, "Just because I feel this way, about you Esme, dose not been you have to return them, or even stay with me."
"Perhaps, I might have taken one look at you on the table in the hospital and saved you for selfish reasons. You do not have to let them rule you. I have shown you how you can survive, and live. If you wished to leave, I will not stop you....however, you might not feel anything now, but you could give me a chance to show you more, teach you more, and for your newborn desires to fade, and your more human emotions to come back. About a year is what it will take Esme. Will you give me a year, to show you new things?"

The ghost of her past started to plant itself into Esme's mind. Though she had a small, unusual sensation to stay with the doctor she had only met once before this, many years before now, she could not will herself to believe entirely that he wanted the same. Despite the sincere words he spoke. How could he want to be with her forever? Esme had never been wanted in such a way before. Before she was only wanted as some sort of toy, a punching bag, nothing more than that. No, it couldn't be what his words meant.
Esme flinched internally at his touch, his hand resting on the back of her neck, the movement invisible to anyone but herself. It was a reaction she didn't consciously think about anymore, a natural reaction to most any touch. She nodded her head simply as he spoke of her not having to stay with him. Though she would. He was the only thing that held her here now, that prevented her from wishing death upon herself once more. Esme wouldn't dare leave to live this life on her own, he clearly knew this life well.
"A year?" she questioned, it seemed like a long while. So many thing could happen in a year. But she'd let Carlisle show her whatever he felt necessary to show her now. "Yes," she answered to his question.
[Ooc: Sorry if this is confusing/different from other posts. I've just gotten a little...insight...into Esme's character and how coming from an abusive situation would possibly make one feel.]

[Great insight!]
He could see the small change in her face and wondered what she was thinking. He he not been memorizing every thing about her face at the moment he might not have even noticed anything. He smiled when she said he had a year. He had time.
In the very distance Carlisle could hear some water. He remembered from his hunting trips up this way that there was a very small water fall, there, and a small but deep pool, that turned into a creek that ran for miles and miles. "Let me show you this," He said letting her go and offering her his hand, "Let me show you what you can do now, that you have never been able to do before."

Esme raised her eyebrows, wondering what more she could do now that she couldn't do before. There was quite a long list now and it didn't seem like it could get any longer.
Her red eyes watched as he removed his hand from her neck and offered it to her, to hold on to. She willingly wrapped her own hand around Carlisle's. It was an odd feeling, to feel comfortable around someone she barely knew.
"Where are we going?" she asked curiously. Taking another breath she felt the air burn down her throat. Her mouth pooled with venom as the craving for more blood made it's presence known. She let her hand fall from the doctor's and grasped her neck again. She wondered if it would ever go away...the annoying burn.

"Someplace beautiful, and special." He said, keeping his voice low, "We may hunt again along the way, if you would like to. I know this time will be hard, for you. I want to help you make it as easy as I can for you."
He gently started to lead her away, "I want to also tell you of my--" He wondered if he should call Edward his son, in the face of what she lost, "My friend. Someone like you, who I changed. He is out here, hunting, we may cross paths with him."
{Should I offer to let Edward join us, or do you want to keep this just you & I?}

Esme nodded to him, letting her hand fall to her side. She was relieved when he mentioned they'd possibly be hunting again on the way. She craved the blood now, the soothing feeling it brought. Venom once again pooled in her mouth as she thought about it, and she had to attempt to force the thought to the back of her mind.
Following Carlisle, she listened to him speak of a friend, another vampire. Someone else he had changed. She wondered how many of them like her were out there now, did they always mingle with the humans? To try to occupy her mind of something else as they walked she decided to ask him a question. "What is his...," her sentence trailed of as her body became rigid.
Far in the distance she could smell it. Miles away, the pulsing of veins, the pounding of a heart she could hear. The smell was unlike anything she had ever craved. It was sweet, and pungeant. It consumed her mind entirely and she forgot her previous train of thought. This was different than the blood of an animal, it was better. Ten thousand times better.
Instinctively and without a concsious thought her body crouched low, a growl escaping her pale lips as she prepared herself for the hunt. In a second she as off, bolting at top speed toward her prey, leaving Carlisle far behind. Her muscles coursed with the newfound strength, pushing her faster than she'd ever gone before. It wouldn't be long now and she'd have the desired blood dripping down her throat....[Ooc: Thought I'd add that Edward said that he'd be joining us. Hence the dramatics. ]

Edward had been hunting for a while now giving Carlisle time to introduce the Newborn to the world she had been thrust into. He had more than had his fill but for now was wondering the forest just biding time. He knew Carlisle would bring her out here to hunt eventually, he might meet them here otherwise he guessed he'd just be introduced back at the house. He sat on the edge of an embankment near a babbling brook enjoying the solitude for the moment. A gentle breeze swept up the small valley and Edward instantly became alert. Human!
One of the reasons he and Carlisle chose this forest to hunt in was because it was rare if ever the humans visited its depths. If Carlisle brought her out now. Edward shuddered at the thought. He moved quickly getting closer to the humans.
He heard her thoughts before he even smelt her scent. Her mind was focused on one thing and one thing only. Edward used this to his advantage. He moved so that he would come at her down wind from the side. The element of surprise would be the only advantage he would have. The forest blurred past him as he moved when he finally got close enough he did not even think. He rushed her from the side, knocking her over. He rolled placing himself between her and her prey.
Oh this is really bad he thought as he looked into furious burning red eyes. Carlisle you better be close by.
OOC: I hope you didn't think I God-modded in that bit, I tried not to but I did need to get Esme distracted.

As Esme's mind was focused on the hunt she didn't notice the approach of another vampire. She growled a feral snarl as she was forced to the ground. Her teeth snapped at the one that was holding her down, preventing her from getting the prey she so desperately needed.
Feral snarls continued to escape her mouth as she looked up at her attacker. He had the same topaz eyes as Carlisle, hair spread in a gorgeous bronze disarray. She continued to snap at him, furious screeches broke the silence around them.
How dare he! How dare he stop me from getting my prey! Who does he think he is?! her thoughts screamed. She could still smell the humans in the air and she wanted now more than ever to get to them.

The woman's thoughts raced through his mind. He wished he could reason with her but hearing the thoughts going through her mind he knew that was impossible at the moment. The human smell was still prominant. It took a lot of control to stop himself from heading after the humans as her thoughts permiated his brain.
"Esme stop!" He growled out as he dodged again still trying to keep himself between Esme and her prey. "Carlisle now would be good." He called to his creator knowing that he would not be able to keep the newborn distracted much longer and that he would need help dragging her away.

It took Carlisle only seconds to catch up to them but with Esme's speed seconds would have made him to far to late. He had promised to keep her safe and he was failing. This would not help prove to her she did not have to be a monster.
Once he got to where Edward had stalled he spoke, "Don't breathe, Esme." He spoke to her. "You don't have to, and it will help." Carlisle got the rag he had used before and out to her. "You have to fight it, trust me to help you." Me moved so that he too was blocking her way, but was closer then Edward was to her. In his mind he spoke to Edward, thanking him for stopping her.
"Esme, this is Edward. We were just speaking of him. I was just telling you all about him." He was speaking trying to distract her, not just repeating him self. He doubted it would work but he wanted to try, for Esme's sake.

The words of either vampire did not register in her mind, not now, not when it was this crazed with the scent of human blood. A scent that was quickly fading away, off into the distance. Now more than ever she felt desperate to get at it, as it was fading from her senses.
She ignored the doctor's offer of the rag that had once kept her from smelling anything, swiping at it with one of her hands forcefully, sending it away in shreds. Continues, guttural snarls escaped the mouth that was still snapping at the two vampires in front of her.
The usual kind, gentle, loving woman that had just moments before stood, talking with Carlisle, had transformed in a matter of seconds into a blood crazed being....

Edward just nodded when Carlisle thought his thanks his wary eyes never leaving the newborn in front of him. Carlisle tried to calm her down but Edward could tell by her thoughts the words were not registering. "Carlisle it's not working. We're going to have to take her down together." He glanced at his 'father'. "No I do not mean like that. I mean knock her down, drag her away, cover her nose. She needs time to remove the scent. It's all she cares about at the moment."
He returned to dodging with the female. "Course we could always let her have him and talk some sense into her afterward." It was not the way he prefered but it would be the easiest way.

No! Carlisle thought to Edward in his head. He did not like either options. ‘If me must, lets try to drag her back. Take her to the water, and pull her down. She can’t smell under the water, and perhaps it will distract her enough to give us the chance to calm her down?’ Carlisle hoped so anyway, he glanced at Edward to see if Edward would agree to the plan. He had not told Esme about Edwards ‘gift’, so she at lest would not know they were planning against her.

Though the smell of the humans was not fresh and still tainting the air around her Esme continued to fight the men in front of her, finding some opening in their defense to sneak away. The humans weren't that fast, she knew, not nearly as fast as she was. It'd take her mere minutes, if that, to reach them.
None of the words either man was saying registered in her mind. She was now in a panicked frenzy, a hunting craze. As a final attempt to break free she swung one of her granite arms at the bronze haired male, striking him on the shoulder with bone crushing force, a feral snarl escaping her lips as she made contact with his skin.

Edward nodded to his father's plan as it entered his mind. Then his eyes widened as a strong arm came towards his shoulder and knocked him to the side. He shook his head slightly as he was instantaneously to feet. "Now!" He called to Carlise as he launched himself at Esme with the intention of hooking his arm around one of her arms and pulling her backward. Hopefully with Carlise doing the same on the other side.

Carlisle was a millisecond behind Edward as they ran at Esme. Carlisle wondered if he would ever get her to believe they were not monsters after this. He also wondered, if she would forgive him for turning her. He did not hook his arm, like Edward did, but he grabbed her arm and pulled her with everything he could. Edward was still young and stronger, but Esme would be the strongest of them.
Carlisle pulled and pulled trying to not let her brake away. If she did it would be dangerous, she was to strong, and could hurt one of them.

A surprised snarl broke free of Esme's chest as the two men grabbed either side of her. She tried to snap at them but made no contact with their granite like skin. She could feel the power in her muscles and she tried to push back, get them to release her, but it wasn't working and she found herself being pulled backward. Her snarls and growls of protest continued as she flailed in their arms.

With he and Carlisle working together Esme stood little chance against them. Her surprise was eveident in her thoughts as well as her anger. Together they started moving her backward towards the stream. As they moved Edward kept moving himself away from Esme snapping teeth. He spared a glance again at Carlisle wondering what exactly he had brought upon them. Finally the cool stream lapped at Edwards feet.
