It was Jasper's last words that made Carlisle's face pull back into what was becoming known as Carlisle's thinking face. A deep thought. "I am very glad your friend got you away from her. I have hear rumors and story's about Maria." He face smoothed as he smiled, "She has been less of a annoyance to the Volturi since her right hand man left her coven is the rumor." He gave Jasper a friendly, but knowing look, "Seems she had trouble controlling anything she makes and has to keep her coven small again....So the rumors are told."
"One such rumor or story was said that her coven could grow as well as it did, because of his vampire she had in her coven." It was not a question, but at the same time it was.

Did he know? Surely he did. He was speaking of him and Carlisle did not lack knowledge. Surely he would make the connection and it would not surprise Jasper. Though, he had to admit that he was surprised of such specific [and valid] rumors. He did not think he would have been recognized as a single who made her coven successful. But . . . he had. He was. And Carlisle knew it.
"Did these rumors say anything about why and how one such vampire was so successful in establishing Maria's army?" Were his powers known to others . . . or was that part of him still yet to be revealed.

"Nothing very sure. Rumors have a way of getting out of control." Carlisle explained. "They spread and grow and change. I only speak of this because I want you to understand I know your past now, fully aware of things you did. I would still be honored if you and your Alice, stayed with us for as long as you like."
He was not going to come right out and admit he knew about some about jasper's gift. He could be wrong. It was suggested that Maria's general in her army coven might gave a gift that he used to control her newborns but no one was sure what gift it was.

Honored? "Please, I am the who one feels honored that you are so willing to forgive the mistakes of my past and allow me to reside with your family with such open arms. Alice was the first vampire I met who showed me nothing but kindness. I did not know she would not be the last." Jasper -- more than ever -- felt compelled to tell him the one other thing he had not revealed. Whether Carlisle already knew it or not was debatable.
"My departure from Maria was the introduction of another life. Not necessarily a better one at first. There was a specific reason I wanted to cease murdering others. It went further and deeper than simply not wanting to kill someone. I could . . . feel what they were feeling. I could feel their pain and agony moments before I ended their life. I could not bear that burden any longer. I could not stand the suffering I felt them go through." He paused, trying to conceal the pain that was brought back from recalling his past verbally. It placed images that were forever burned in his memory.
"I am emotionally influenced by those around me. It is why I so readily followed Alice. She was constantly happy. Her mood was one I had never experienced before, but one I had so longed for." He had drawn this out long enough. "Growing up, I had a particular charisma about me which often granted me what I wished, in my case, to move quickly higher in rank in the military. That charisma went a step further when I was turned and I found myself . . . able to control the emotions of those around me." His weakness . . . he was also consumed by the emotions of those around him. It was ironic really: his power was also his weakness.

The rumors had not even been close. With vampires such as Jane, Alec and others, the rumors had hinted at them being controlled by fear. But this was not fear. Or, perhaps it could have been. "Then it appears my family has been gifted with more. I am glad, for your sake, that your not with Maria anymore. For Alice's as well." He said trying to keep it positive. It was easy to see that Jasper was thinking the worse.
Carlisle nodded his head, "You have done nothing, which makes me think less of you. You over came your past and for that, I think higher of you. I do worry about one thing..." Carlisle looked back in the drication of the house and was thinking for a moment, then turned back to Jasper, "You say your emotionally influenced by the ones around you. This means, if we feel feel an emotion strong enough, you do as well?"

Jasper believed that only Carlisle would ever find something positive about this whole thing . . . enough to make him think higher of Jasper. His compassion was something so new for Jasper . . . it was going to take some getting used to. Though he did not mind. It was a magnetic emotion, one that drew Jasper to Carlisle. "Yes. If someone is upset, then that anger is emitted from them and I feel their anger and sometimes, react with the same emotion. But it works in both negative and positive ways. If someone is calm, then their calmness is felt by me as well. It is why I was so drawn to Alice when I first met her. She was so jovial; so upbeat. I had been surrounded by hostility and violence that those were the only emotions I ever new. But Alice introduced me to something different."
He looked at Carlisle, hoping that because of this, he would not be asked to leave. Wouldn't have Alice seen that if it were to happen though? "Your emotions . . . calm, kindness, decency, are all ones that I enjoy being surrounded with. It is not the sole reason I enjoy your company, but it is certainly one of them."

Carlisle smiled as Jasper told him of how it works for for once there was a small amount of worry behind the smile. When Jasper spoke of Carlisle emotion the worry disappeared for a moment but came back as Carlisle thought on it. "Are you able to, try to block out reacting to others emotions?"
"I do not mean to sound like I am questioning you, perhaps I should explain my self. I am thinking of my daughter, who I love very much. She has trouble dealing with, what we are. She is very loving in her way, and...well, you've meet Rosalie. She honestly loves her family but, still, wishes she were human."

Jasper listened carefully to Carlisle's words . . . sympathizing with his, and Rosalie's predicament. "I am sorry that she finds this life so difficult to endure. It certainly is not easy." Jasper did not know how long he could have survived once he left Peter and Charolette. It was -- of course -- the best thing he had ever done. But still. He was still familiar with the struggle. He was facing it every day . . . and he was not alone in this hardship.
"I am getting progressively better at it. There are some emotions I do not want to block out, but there are others that are so strong, it is difficult to distance myself from them if I am near that person. Often, I will calm myself and not express whatever negative emotions are emanating from that person." He paused, hoping his explanation made sense. He did not often describe his ability . . . so this was rather new for him.
"Please, do not be concerned that I will feel that way. I have met Rosalie. She is filled with so much anger . . . so much despair. But those feelings do not influence me unless I allow them too." As well, he had not spent a significant amount of time with her, without Alice close by his side . . . she helped balance out the negativity from his surroundings. "The others here are filled with emotions quite opposite from Rosalie's. The good are enough to out weigh the bad." He hoped that did not sound offensive . . . but how could some of Rosalie's emotions be described as good?
"Do you feel she will ever let go?" Whether it was far too personal a question or not . . . Jasper was curious. Was it strange for him to not feel bitter and angry about his transformation? He had not been dying. And yet . . . his bitterness -- whether it was subconsciously present or not -- did not surface from within him.

Carlisle thought for a moment. "She was worse before Emmett. So much anger I wondered if I had done the right thing in biting her. When Emmett came there was a noticeable change in her, almost instantly. He gave her a reason to bare it." He spoke kindly of his daughter who, he knew would be hard for someone who just meet her to understand her.
"I must speak with you about her now, since I have a favor to ask of you as well. Alice seemed to imply you would be joining us in our 'hide in plain sight' lives. We invent stories and a past, and will stay in a town or village for a while. I feel I need to explain, some of Rosalie since the best story we can think of, would be for you to pose as her brother. The others, look alike, dark hair, pale skin, and the same eyes. Rosalie stands out...You would look more like her brother, then Edward or Emmett's...." Carlisle hoped Jasper understood what he meant.

"Sometimes, that is all one needs to embrace hardships and make it easier to endure." Alice was someone who had literally saved him. So it did not surprise him even the slightest bit when Carlisle told him that she had instantly changed when Emmett was brought into her life. "You offered these people life. You should have no regrets about what you have done." As previously established, Jasper found Carlisle's actions admirable.
Jasper remained respectfully silent when Carlisle explained how they lived the way they did . . . regarding familiar relationship. Since none of them were technically related, Jasper knew he would have to fit in somewhere by posing as someone's sibling . . . apparently Rosalie's. Jasper had no problem with Rosalie . . . then again, he had not spoken to her a great deal. He had kept his distance from her. Now, he would have to act as her brother. Though, it would not be very hard. It was just for appearances.
"I will do anything I can to make your appearances in this town more plausible and convenient. You have welcomed me, and I will do whatever you ask of me." He was prepared to lie about his past and anything else to ensure Carlisle and his family [and thus Alice] remained safe. "How will, or has, Rosalie reacted to this information?" He could tell she had a great amount of pride . . . that quality was not hard to determine [even without Jasper's abilities] . . . so he was rather curious as to how she felt about this, since she had been 'an only child' before his arrival.

"I have not spoken to Rosalie as of yet." Carlisle began and hoped Jasper did not know that Carlisle was worried about Rosalie's reaction. "I believe she might become welcome to this idea, if we approached her the in a positive way."
"Rosalie is a very family oriented girl. As I assumed you found out when you first came upon the house, she can be very protective of her family. She will, in then end, do what is best for Rosalie, Emmett and the Cullens." He placed them in that order, knowing she would do what's best for her and Emmett before what's best for the family. "My goal is to speak with Emmett, first."

"That should not be too difficult," he commented . . . half kidding, half serious. It was very easy to approach someone in a positive way, when you were able to manipulate them to be positive. Of course, Jasper would not to do that without the consent of Carlisle. He was the head of the family and Jasper did not want to get on his bad side.
"She did not seem too ecstatic at our arrival, so I do indeed hope she changes her views on the situation, as we mean no harm." Jasper did not have to get along with Rosalie to pose as her brother. But for the sake of Alice's contentment, he wanted to at least try and get along with everyone. "I completely understand though. She has every right to be skeptical of strangers. Especially ones who have come uninvited. Please take as much time as you need. I will not interfere in the affairs of your family." If he needed time to talk to everyone . . . then Jasper would give him just that. He would even become elusive if need be.

"According to Alice, you are our family now," Carlisle placed his hand on Jasper's shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "You frightened her showing up as you did. I have a feeling, Alice can win over anyone, and once she falls in love with Alice, she will be unable to see anything in you but her newest brother." He had faith in Rosalie's since of family if nothing else.

[[Congratulations on passing the 100 post mark Carlisle!]]
Brother. That was a term he was unfamiliar with . . . one he had not heard in so very long. Perhaps being part of this family life would be better than Jasper thought. He had his hesitations about how they would react . . . but they were all just concerned about protecting each other. Jasper could not hold that against them.
"I do not doubt she can. She won be over the instant I saw her," he said with a small smile. "I am not impatient in any way. Whether it takes months, or years for Rosalie to feel comfortable around me, I will not pressure her." He was also implying that he would not use his power around her . . . even if it may be a benefit to both Jasper and Rosalie -- or anyone else really -- .

Carlisle smiled, "Rosalie is the opposite of you. She will be impatient and controlling, but with the best intentions." Carlisle looked around them knowing they should move on, and hunt some before Emmett or Edward came looking for them. Carlisle would not mind them joining, however it might be best to enjoy this moment between them. Carlisle wasn't sure if he would have a chance to talk openly and honestly again with Jasper.
"I will speak with Rosalie, when you are ready to join them in the human world. You only have to say when."
